LD27 August 23–26, 2013

I am so in! :D

I always get super excited when Ludum Dare rolls around! :D
This will be my third Ludum Dare and I’m planning on entering the compo this time rather than the jam.

Tools I will be using include:
Flixel
flashDevelop
Paint.net
sfxr

First time Ludum Dare, etc., etc.

Language: Lua
Text Editor: SciTE
Framework: LÖVE
Libraries: HardonCollider (yes, that is the correct spelling)
Graphics: GIMP, for drafting, I was planning on having LÖVE draw everything as just lines, as a sort of homage to Asteroids and other early vector graphic games.
Sound: BFXR
Music: I suppose I’ll try to use Audacity to hack something together.
Other supplies

After this paragraph is the base code I will be using to spare myself the hour headache of re-learning how to use HardonCollider. I might end up not using this at all if the theme turns out to be really strange, like yourself as enemies or something ridiculous.

Direct links!
Direct link to .zip

Direct link to .love file (you can use 7z or winrar to unpack it, just like a zip file, then you can look at main.lua and see how it works. It’s pretty crude.)

Indirect links in case those have broken themselves:

I’m in (the Ludum Dare Fever)

Since my first Ludum Dare went rather well (25th in Fun), I guess I will also participate in the next LD (Jam).

Tools I’ll be using:

  • Frameworks:
    • LWJGL, Slick2D or (if I manage to learn it within the next two weeks) LibGDX
    • and NiftyGUI
  • IDE: Netbeans
  • Graphics: Gimp, Paint (maybe Wings3D for modeling)
  • Sound: bfxr, sfxr, audacity
  • All my friends for (alpha & beta) testing (this time for real)

My major goal for this LD will be to make it playable in the browser, because it seems that many people don’t like downloads ( I get why people don’t like installers, but standalone executables aren’t that bad), hence why I try to learn LibGDX.

Maybe as an exercise I will also try to make a real RTS out of my MiniLD44 (7dRTS) entry, which is currently only turn-based.

Having said all this: Happy Jamming everybody.

Ludum Dare!

This will be my second LD48. This time, I am trying to do 100% coding. Most likely text based, unless I learn pygame in a day:)

Platform: Python

Sound?: anvil and audacity

Food: Bacon Pancakes(again)

A wild chaosEngine appears!

I’m in for LD 27, and I have an engine!

That’s right, over the last few months I have been developing my own game engine that will act as an overall level editor and do some of the game logic!

I will be working with a friend (prospectively) for help in graphics and programming.

Other tools are (Yes I reckon friends as tools):

Modelling -> Blender

Music -> Home Studio / FL-Studio (not sure yet)

Sounds -> Home Studio / sfxr

Images / Texturing -> Gimp

ChaosEngine2

The Doctor is ON.

Roger, Ludum Dare, this is Radiumskull reporting.

This will be the first time I try this, so I’m going easy on myself with the Jam. I don’t know if I can pull off anything good, but I was so impressed when I saw Matthew Divito‘s work, I figured WHTHEHELL.

Language: ActionScript 3 – it’s the only thing I know well right now, so that will be what I roll with
Framework: Flash CS6
Libraries:  Flashpunk  (Greensock TweenLite?)
Graphics: Photoshop, Illustrator, and whatever other Adobe manglers I need. Blender for 3D stufflike. Gustave Dore will probably make it in there.
Sound: Audition, see above
Music: Archive.org has so many things!, but it might be NiN’s Ghosts, again.

Sic supra, ad infra!

My second LD

So, this is my second time trying in LD. This time, i’m hopefully going to be able to finish a game. I plan to create a game this weekend to warm up.

My supply list:

  • Java
  • Lots of monster

I cant wait!

LDDreamTeam Needs An Artist!

lddreamteam-request-logo

Are you an experienced and talented game jammer? Are you a radass artist that doesn’t want to work alone?

THEN JOIN THE LDDreamTeam!

Ditto and I have teamed up to jump from the 48 hour compo to the 72 hour jam… the logical step after being ‘successful’ as a Ludum Dare solo developer!

Ludum Dare is all about learning… it’s about gaining new experiences… and it’s about challenging yourself. The LDDreamTeam is an effort to branch out and try new things in game development, and while we’re both comfortable with making our own art, we’d love to be joined by a dedicated artist/animator for Ludum Dare 27.

If you’re interested, please contact me at SonnyBone at PhantomGreen dot com or @Phantom_Green on Twitter. Be sure to link me to your previous LD games or your previous game-related work.

I’m in, again

Hello, I’m Raincole, and I decided to participate this Ludum Dare. This will be my third LD, following my previous and first ones.

In the last LD I realized my laptop isn’t powerful enough to stream and develop game at the same time, so I will not try to broadcast. Instead I will post my progress here as blog posts.

My personal target, is to use a new tool/language/engine in every single LD. In LD 25 it was Unity, and Haxe in LD26. This time, the newcomer to my toolbox is Lua/Love2D. Though it means I can’t release a browser-playable version, Linux+MacOSX+Windows cover a wide enough audience for me.

The other tools I plan to use are:

*Graphic: as always, Inkscape. I have plan to learn pixel art, but… maybe next time.

*Music: Inudge. But it’s more possible there will not be any music.

*Sound: cxfr.

Happy Ludum Dare, everyone!

Entering the contest :D

First time, have been coding for a few years now and I’m only in highschool but I want to take my coding abilities to the test and see what I can really do. Also, if I manage to win this, this could definitely be something to put on a resume in the future 😛

Coding: I will be using either Java or XNA/C#

Graphics: May be paint or may be photoshop, really depends on the theme.

Sound: I will probably just record my voice and edit it using Audacity

Hooray for high schoolers!

Thanks man! I really just want something to show me how good I really am at coding, if I can create a game at equal quality than most others entering this contest that’s all I’ll really be looking for.

How to slaughter themes

If you’re participating in the LD27 theme slaughter, you may be confused on when to choose slaughter or what a theme really is.  Here’s a pretty simple rule that you can use to make sense of it all.

If you could say the sentence “a major theme of this game is <instert theme suggestion>” and that sentence makes sense to you, then it’s a theme.  If not, send it straight to theme hell.

For example, you could say “a major theme of Super Metroid is solitude”.  Therefore, solitude might be a valid theme.  On the other hand, you wouldn’t say “a major theme of Super Metroid is space ship”.  That doesn’t make sense because “space ship” is not a theme. Themes are usually conceptual/abstract and rarely places or things.

Hope this helps… Happy hunting!

I’m in!

I took part in the last LD, and I had an absolute blast. I came in #416 overall, considering it was my first time taking part (and my second game ever), I was VERY pleased with the results! Check it out – http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=9841

I’m excited to try and get a better ranking this time. In hopes of having more time and being more prepared, I am taking two days off work (the Friday before and the Monday after) since I live in Singapore, and the competition timings conflict with my job and sleep patterns.

I’ll be writing the game from scratch in Java. I hope to get the programming done quick, and focus more on adding additional polish and content in. Good luck everyone!

I´m in! With blog!

So I got a blog at tumblr a few days ago, so I decided to put my LD progress there.

I just posted a little entry post about what´s going on at LD.

Hobbits Place

Also, here are the tool I will use:

  • Unity3D – Engine + IDE
  • GIMP – Graphics
  • Blender – 3D Graphics
  • paint.net – more Graphics
  • SFXR – Sound

WARMING UP

I have created the outline to a basic operating system in javascript and I am going to use it for a warm up! My basic idea is for the player to log in to the hacking program to decipher codes and hack other systems. For this to work, You must be skilled enough to find hints to crack passwords and change them without being caught by the remote admin. Advance through hacking and eventually build up your own spyware to prevent others from hacking you. To be continued… But watch my livestream.

Well I suppose I’m in

I’ve been looking forward to this for a while, and last time I got 76th place for humor (of course the rating were screwed up but whatever), so I’m curious to see if I can again get in the top 100 for at least ONE thing. I’m also going to try to squeeze off a simple game engine before it starts, just to save some time. If/when I finish that, I will post it here.

Oh and here are ma’ toolz:

  1. Graphics: Paint.net
  2. Language: Java
  3. Editor: Eclipse
  4. SFX: BFXR
  5. Music (if I get around to it): LMMS
  6. Timelapse: Chronolapse

See y’all then;
return 0;

I’m in!

Hi! I’ll be participating in LD 27, my second LD! It’s a weekend that works perfectly for me, for once.

Language: JavaScript/HTML5
Framework: Probably nothing. Maybe howler.js for sound.
Graphics: Likely programmatic. Maybe Gimp. If I can order a new pen in time (I lost it) my tablet.
Sound: FL Studio or LMMS.
Food: Canned chili. Chocolate milk.
Streaming: XSplit.

I’m psyched!

See you there!
