LD27 August 23–26, 2013

Commencing countdown…

So, I’m almost done preparing, and getting used to, the tools I’ll use for LD27. These will be:

  • Bfxr
  • Windows sound recorder :->
  • FL Studio
  • Photoshop
  • 3Ds Max
  • Unity
  • Mudbox

I will be recording the two-screen timelapse using Chronolapse, so you can all see how I do my sh1t.

Also, I will be using my Intuos 3.

Pumped up is me!

Free hosting for your Ludum Dare games, itch.io

Hey everyone, I launched a site called itch.io for indie games about 6 months ago and I’m looking to have your game be part of it!

itch.io gives you a platform for creating a customized webpage page for your game along with free host for downloads. When I last wrote about it only supported downloadable games but I’ve enhanced it to work with flash/java/unity games as well! (HTML5 coming soon!)

In my opinion the coolest part of the site is that it lets you set a minimum price on downloads for your games. For example, you could set a minimum price of 0,  people would be able to download your game for free, but if there’s someone nice who really likes your game they could throw some money your way. I think it’s really empowering considering most of us probably create games to give out for free but never really give players the option to pass some money back up to the developer.

I’ve been really enhancing the site over the past few months, one of the latest features I’ve added is the ability to set minimum prices on individual files. So you could offer your game for one amount, but encourage people to give a little more to get extras like a soundtrack, more levels or maybe even other games you’ve created. I’ve got a lot more features planned that are coming up soon after this Ludum Dare.

Anyway, enough blabbing, check out some of the games on the site: http://itch.io/browse

And here’s the FAQ if you want more information: http://itch.io/about/faq

Jam Team Maybe?

Hey! The last time I did Ludum Dare there was a small get together in the Boston area and everyone there was doing the compo. It was loads of fun but there wasn’t much communication since everyone was working on their own game. I was wondering if anyone was up for a mashed-together jam team in the Boston area/is having an LD real world gathering.

Preparing my desktop…

So, I have been preparing my desktop with all the shortcuts for fast development. I’ll be using SunVox for making the music, It is my first time and I’ll try to learn tomorrow how to use it…

Pickle and photoshop for the graphics, and Sublime Text 2 for making my html5/javascript game with ImpactJS.

wupto will make game

wupto using game maker

wupto make art with photoshop

wupto make music with garage band

In for the 5th time :D

This will mark my fifth Ludum Dare, last time I made ProductionVille, which was an amazing accomplishment for 48 hours in my opinion, and scored in the top 14% overall!!!

This time I plan on making something not quite so complex, because I often try to make things that are far too advanced for 48 hours and will often have to cut out important aspects like sound and a proper tutorial, etc… This time I’d like to make something smaller, simpler, but more complete overall, rather than just focusing on one very complex aspect. This is why I’m liking the ’10 seconds’ theme, and so are many other people it seems, so that would be a perfect one :)

My tools will be as always:
-Unity 3D
-Blender (If I need to do any modelling)
-Paint.NET
-SFXR or some sort of sound generator will likely be involved
-And I’ll have to find something to use for music… Not too sure on that one yet
-Also, OBS for timelapsing

I wish everyone else good luck, and lets try to beat the massive record of submissions set by LD26, that would be amazing 😀

Wow, thanks for the link… I’ll be sure to check this out :)

Very, very much in

Yet another Ludum Dare comes round. Will I finish this time? A lot of us ask ourselves this question. What does it matter, I say? I’m in and I aim to have fun.

My toolset:

* Haxe (http://haxe.org)

* Aseprite (http://www.aseprite.org)

* Sfxr (or one of its ports)

I’m mainly aiming for fluid gameplay that works, instead of fancy art or a killer concept (which have made me fail in the past).

Good luck to everyone, and above all, have fun!

Seeking an artistic teammate

So! last time I took part, I felt like I spent too much time focusing on making the half-decent sprites for my game. This time, if there are any artists (2d OR 3d) that would be interested in teaming up with me (I’m a programmer/designer), go ahead and hit me up! you can reach me via email: ultimateharan (at) gmail (dot) com

If you want to see my previous entry, you can find it here

In, also for the first time…

TOJam 8 was my first game jam, and I’m back for more. Since it’s my first solo (I think) jam, I’ll be skipping the competition and doing the 72 hour jam.

I’ll be using:

  • Unity (C#)
  • GraphicsGale
  • Paint.Net
  • BFXR

Looking forward to it.

Welcome to the party! 😀

In it! And nothing in my way this time!

I’m back for another shot! This will be my fifth attempt, and hoping to finish off a third game. I’ll likely be sticking with what has worked in the past: Love2D, GIMP, sfxr, etc. Haven’t had much of the game development bug over this summer as I have in the past, so hopefully this Ludum Dare will kick start me back up. Got to get ready for apply for jobs for next summer!

P.S. Shot in the dark, but if you know of any game development jobs in the US looking for recent graduates for next summer, feel free to comment!

My Voting Record

Looks like I showed up late to the party, again, but I got some voting in before the final round at least — also, the link on the main page makes it look like Round 4 is up and ready, but when I got to it, it just says “you must be logged in to vote”.  Maybe it’s just not ready yet?  Seems weird that both would be available at the same time.

Anyway, here’s how I voted:

I’m in again.

This will be my second time doing the LD compo (fourth if you count minis).  I’ll be using:

Unity(C#)

GIMP and/or iDraw and/or Pixen

Blender

CrazyBump

TexturePacker

cfxr

As far as code libraries, I will probably end up using my SpriteSheet class, which is available here.  Feel free to use it if you like, but be aware that it is buggy and not very versatile.
