LD27 August 23–26, 2013

I’m In!

This’ll be my second LD,  hoping to score better this time! i’ll concentrate less on keeping a working HTML5 and android port and release those as post event updates, but i defo will put out an android port!

I’ll be using Java with LibGdx and my game code library: https://bitbucket.org/CiderPunk/gamebase

Tools: Eclipse, gimp, paint.net, maybe blender for some effects and SFXR

good luck everyone and remember; friends don’t let friends make tower defence games

LD27 I’m in!

I’m in, for my 5th LD! My previous attempts have been met with failure, the one time I managed to finish, I failed to upload the game :)

But not all is lost, for even a failed jam leaves behind the shell of a good idea, one that can be picked up and finished.

This time around I will be teaming up with a few friends, we intend to do a bit of a pub jam. (Matlock UK, all welcome)

Tools:

Game maker

Gimp

PyxelEdit (I will buy this when it gets released, awesome tool)

SFXR

Inkscape

Joining!

Ill attend for my fist ludum dare. is this even the right way sign up? :p

I Just won newgrounds gamejam so im really excited for this one! I know its going to be a lot harder though

I will be using flash cs6

This must be the right way to sign up! The FAQ says so!

I’m in for the LD27 Jam

I’m planning on participating in next weekend’s LD27 – I’ll be doing the jam again as it gives me more breathing room as far as the libraries and tools I can use.  As usual, I won’t be able to work on this straight through the weekend, so we’ll see what I end up with.

Hardware: Macbook Pro, Wacom Tablet, iPad

Game Engine, Languages, & Tools:  Unity 3D Pro, C#, Xamarin Studio

Libraries & Frameworks:  Futile, Vectrocity, Spine

Graphics & Art: Corel Painter 12, Photoshop CS5, Blender 2.6, Spine, Procreate iPad

Music & Audio: sfxr, Logic, Renoise, maybe some PureData

I’m in

Participated since 2008

Will try to go for something simple thins time.

As for tools. Flash, paint.net, sfxr, and only last time learned of autotracker, great tool :)

I’m in! For the 7th time! Let’s look back!

I’m excited! The new Ludum Dare never comes too early. My big project Nadia was here keeps going on and on, and I really feel the need to finish something again!

I think I’m going to make a short analysis for myself of my previous 6 LD’s to refresh what I’ve learned and to help make number 7 as lucky as it should be!

No worries, you can read it too! After the jump!

LD21: Escape route, The one with the awesome music

Interesting facts:
*Ranked #8 in sound, even though it only had a single track and no sound effects
*#8 in sound, but below #100 in every other category

What I’ve learned:
*Good music and mood go a long way!
*Complicated, confusing games don’t rank high.

LD 22: Alone in a cave, the one with the bugs

Interesting facts:
#Ranked #94 overall, first time in the top 100!

What I’ve learned:
*Don’t try to do too many things you’ve never done before! <<Guys and girls, this is an important one!

LD 23: Ancestor’s sword, the one that let me have a taste of succes and left me wanting more

Interesting facts:
* #38th overall, first time in the top 50!
* Top 50 in 4 out of 8 categories

What I’ve learned:
*Sometimes everything just comes together. It doesn’t have a lot to do with preperation. Sometimes the theme just inspires you. The graphics and music come naturally, and you never hit a spot where you just want to give up, and things just get done. That’s what happened here.
*The goal I set for myself was challenging but not undoable. I both learned a lot and had a nice entry. I guess that’s what I should be aiming for this time.

LD 24: The ducks are taking over! The one where I didn’t have time that weekend.

Interesting facts:
*Only scored high in audio. (#47)
*I only spent about half a day on this entry because I had other things going on.

What I´ve learned:
*Spending more time on your entry obviously results in better entries BUT
*If you have only a couple of hours to spend on LD next weekend and you wonder if you should even enter or not, my advice is DO IT! You will learn a whole lot every time, even though your entry might not be as good as it could have been.

LD 25: Critter criminal. The one where I decided it would be possible to make an RPG in 48 hours

Interesting facts:
*#62 overall

What I’ve learned:
*Don’t friggin’ try to do things you’ve never done before. Again!
*Yet, challenging yourself to this degree IS a lot of fun.
*A simple but effective graphic style will save you time AND will look good.

LD 26: The epicly short adventure. The one where I drew everything by hand.

Interesting facts:
*I didn’t have to go to work on monday. It made a huge difference! Every hour counts.
*Ranked #45 overall and scored top 100 in 5 out of 8 categories.

What I’ve learned:
*There is more than just one way to challenge yourself.
*Every hour makes a difference.
*I can recommend everyone to make a timelapse. It’s just a great way to look back on your weekend.

So I guess my advice to myself is: Stick to what you know in all but one aspect of the game. Don’t try to do too much. Don’t do things you’ve never done before. Pick a simple, effective style for your game. Pick up on timewasters early and don’t forget to have fun!

MadcoreTom is in!

I’m In! My social life is on hold and I’m excited to be a part of Ludum Dare #27! I missed  #26, but competed in 22,23,24 and 25.

I enjoy both playing the games of others, and the feedback from the community about mine. This time I hope to include music in my game.

ld27

(The escape pod, Ferdi, Villain with top hat, 3-pixel red guy)

As usual I’ll start from scratch with plain old Java, but I might use a library to play OGG files. I’ll probably use my code for rendering text from my previous entries, which is available to anyone who wants it.

Here are my tools of choice for this LD:

  • Graphics – Paint.NET
  • SFX – BFXR
  • Music – MilkyTracker
  • Code – IntelliJ IDEA
  • Screen Capture – Chronolapse

My First Ludum Dare!

I’m in for this weekend, and I’m really excited about it! I haven’t pushed a game to completion really, other than a snake clone and a couple of pong clones, so I’m looking forward to sitting down and really working through it all. I anticipate that this is going to be a very good learning experience.

I’ll also be streaming my development live for the first time, which is also exciting!

As far as tools go, I’ll be using:

Graphics: Photoshop

Sound: SFXR

Code: C++ and SDL 2.0

I like to do things from scratch so that’s all I’m using. No music this time around, because I don’t really know how to make it!

Anyway, see you all there, and good luck!

My second Ludum Dare

Hi. I’m in. Just it.

tools:

Code: FlashDevelop + starling

Graphic:  GraphicGale, maybe Flash Proffesional

Sound : sfxr, ( maybe SiON software synthsizer library from Scoreoid_Mega_Game_Assets)

Let’s do this thing

Well,

I decided to get a buddy of mine into things this time so we are gonna do the jam, and see how much we can roll with.

Currently thinking about doing an html5 game simply because the weird amalgamation of windows 8, mac, and Ubuntu cause it to be the simplest compatibility option. This means my tool chain will be amusingly  varied as well. Thinking about doing the entire thing with no libraries, but that may change.

Things I know I will be using:

Gimp, Notepad++, Nano, Gedit, Audacity, Apache, IIS, git

Good luck everyone.

I’m totally in, can’t wait, it will be my first Ludum Dare

Hey Whats up LDers?

I’m incredibly excited to participate in LD27, I’ve been trying to do them for a while but I always miss the compo by a week or two so this will be my first one!

my planned tools are:

Code: Construct 2

Graphic:  Photoshop and SAI

Sound : sfxr, http://www.inudge.net/ and a midi creator

Good luck to all :)

That midi creator is cool!

Jarcas Studios (me!) is in for the compo

Looking forward to this one. I’m actually still working on turning my previous LD entry, Tiny Runner, into a small but polished game w/ global leaderboards, updated graphics, new gameplay features, a refined difficulty curve, and sound and music. Hoping to release that soon on Ouya and possibly other platforms as well.

Really cheering for the “10 second” theme this time around. That one would result in tons of cool ideas I bet.

I will be using:

Engine/Language: Unity 3D and C# (MonoDevelop)

Sound Effects: bfxr and Audacity

Music (if I get around to it): Reaper, Reason, and a bunch of VST plugins

Graphics: GraphicsGale, Photoshop, Pixlr, Blender and/or Sculptris (but not likely)

Unity Packages: Orthello Free, iTween, GameDraw  Free (maybe)

Less problems – more fun!

Hey you (yes you out there),
This will be my fourth LudumDare and hopefully my third game I actually release. Either way I’m sure It will be very fun :)
Last time there were some problems with the execution of my games, whether on Windows (OpenAL) or on Linux (runtime libraries), but I worked a lot on the building process (and the code), updated my libraries, tested the base code so I’m happy to pronounce that this time there will be much fewer problems. The Windows application doesn’t depend on any OpenAL installation and for the Linux one you don’t have to download anything other than my actual game(except maybe OpenGL drivers which you should already have, if not… you need them! for many many games (not just mine)!), extract and you are ready to play (like you would do on Windows…). And here’s my inventory:

  • Language: C++
  • IDE:
    • On Windows: Visual Studio Express 2012 (Main development)
    • On Linux: CodeBlocks (Only for the Linux port)
    • On Macintosh: (Even though I have an old Macbook Air now, I didn’t have enough time to set up the IDE, install the libraries, etc.)
  • (Horrible) Sprites: Paint.NET
  • (Even more horrible) Music: Autotracker, Musagi, Aira Maestosa
  • Basecode: Yes
  • Coding libraries:
    • Input, Window/Time management: SDL2 (it’s out!)
    • Graphic: OpenGL
    • Sound: OpenAL
    • File libraries:
      • libpng
      • libogg, libvorbis
      • zlib

I´m in

In the last 3 LDs I always had to work half of the weekend , but this time I can code almost the whole weekend, but sunday ( because I am going to gamescom).

I also left Blitzbasic and started using java and Slick2d. I always wanted to do this, but it took me very long to get started in java.

Blitzbasic was okay for a beginner but I´d like my games to be playable in the browser, since this is much more comfortable than downloading.

I also managed to learn git (which took me several days) so I´m ready for this LD.

Language: Java

Library: Slick2D/LWJGL

Art: Aseprite & Gimp

Sound: sfxr

good luck every one :)

Handy articles for GameMaker developers

Some handy tutorial articles I wrote up on using GameMaker, for anyone who needs to brush up on their skills or take a crash course:

Leveling Up as a GameMaker dev.  A guide to your progress as you learn the tool.

Position and Motion Tutorial.  The basics of moving objects around the room.

Wave Motion Tutorial. Getting that nice sine-wave sway.

String Handling and Drawing Text.

Draw Rich Text. A handy script for more powerful formatting of text  you draw to the screen.

Building a GameMaker extension. How to write your GML for reusability, and how to use the GameMaker Extension builder.

Password Save system.  For replicating that old school NES feel.

I thought your “Leveling Up as a GameMaker dev.” article was excellent. It’s nice to recognize the levels I’ve achieved and a nice heads up towards the one’s I haven’t.

We are in!

After taking part in the last #7dfps some days ago, we think we are ready for #ld27! We are tired but really happy with our entry: Galaxel, a first person matching shooter where you have to kill enemies by shooting coloured cubes from beneath your feet.

You can play it here (Windows, Mac, Browser versions available). We also have some killer concept art! Check it!

NuevoDocumento 16

Back to #ld27, we will be using #Unity3d. That’s a given for us. Other tools will depend on the scope of our idea, we’ll see when theme is finally revealed!

Until this Friday then! Cheers, everyone!

This epic poster follows me on every social stream :) Tho I don’t say I have anything against it. Its GOREGOUS

ROAD TO OBLIVION

Unfortunately, Lonebot will not be able to join Ludum  Dare 27!

Our programmer (me!) is on a trip to Alaska and will only be back on the second day of the competition – and will probably suffer from severe jet-lag (10 hour difference!). :(

However, I’d like to use this opportunity to wish all of the participants the best of luck and I’m hoping to play some great games when I get back!!

I’d also like to wish our artist, Mati, a happy birthday!

– with much ♥, the Lonebot team

Checking in for LD!

Argh, life got in the way, and just now I had time to write an “I’m in” post. I’ve been participating since LD24, and this time it won’t be different. The timezone for LD is just perfect for me: The compo starts 10:00AM my time on Saturday (Tokyo) and goes until 10:00AM Monday – Already took the day off work that day ;-).

The only snag will be a school event that will take 3-4 hours Saturday afternoon. I will try to use that time to do some game designing.

Anyway, tool call:

Coding: Java+libGDX, the goal is to make a game playable on android and the desktop. I might drop android or add html5 depending on the theme and the design. Using Eclipse+ADT as my IDE.

Graphics: Gimp + Inkscape + my handy WACOM tablet. If the game design calls for it I might use a cool android-based random sprite generator that I found these days.

Sounds: BFXR + possibly a voice synthesizer.

Music: Probably I’m just going to go with Autotracker , even though I can now recognize an autotracker-bu generated song by smell 😛 If I have the time and inclination I might try to compose something using the dozens upon dozens of trackers that I have tested over the months, but every time I’ve tried to do so it ended in utter disaster :-(

Here is my base code (right now it is just some empty classes for handling state changing and asset loading). Good Luck and have fun everyone!
