LD27 August 23–26, 2013

First Time Entering: Making a Text Adventure (probally) for the Game Jam.

This is my first time entering Ludum Dare or any game design competition for that mater. I’m entering the Jam because I’ve never worked that fast and I shouldn’t do too challenging of a contest starting out. Even though I’m entering the Jam I will still work alone, because I don’t know anyone who could help. I’ll use Inform 7 because it has source code that sounds like English, making it easier to translate my thoughts into code, and because it can be embedded into webpages so people who don’t want to download an interpreter don’t have to (but you should because there is so much good interactive fiction). Anyway, not looking to win but I would like to get noticed.

I’ll be in!

For the first time, LD27 will be my first ever Ludum Dare entry.

I’ll either be using Construct2 or Flixel to build the game.

Make sprites with Photoshop.

Sound effects with BXFR.

I’ll go into better detail in another post. I need to think of some ideas based on the popular themes.

Progress bar library for LimeJS

I’ve made a small sprite scaling library for LimeJS, inspired by CCSpriteScale9 for iOS.  It’s good for speech bubbles, progress bars, health bars… anything with rounded corners and variable sizes.  You can download it from Github.

To use, save spritescale9.js somewhere in your LimeJS project and run python bin/lime.py update to get the new namespace. Then add something like this to your code:

require('kchodorow.lime.SpriteScale9');

 var spriteSheet = new lime.SpriteSheet('someSpriteSheet.png',
 lime.ASSETS.someSpriteSheet.json, lime.parser.JSON);
 var sprite = new kchodorow.lime.SpriteScale9()
 .setFill(spriteSheet.getFrame('bubble.png')).scale9(300,200);
 scene.appendChild(sprite);

It assumes you’re using sprite sheets, although it would probably be easy to hack in support for “bare” images.

Enjoy!

I’m in!

Hey all,

Just here to let everyone know I’m in to win (granted other obligations have cut my 48 hours in half lol), I’m ready to rock n roll!
Construct 2 is my SDK, Photoshop is my art program, FL Studio is my music program, and BFXR is where my lovely SFX come from. Nice to see other C2 users competing now!! Go us!! Let’s make a crapload of awesome games everyone!!! Weeeeew!

I’m in! Derek might join too!

Hi All,

I’m 1/2 of Send More People, but I’m thinking I can still make something happen, so count me in!!!

Just don’t expect it to look or sound too pretty, that’s what Derek does.

😉

I’m in!

Hello! This is my first Ludum Dare! I have been in another game jam, but it wasn’t as big! I’ll be using CraftStudio. For image editing, I’ll be using Paint.NET (maybe photoshop). I don’t know how to make music, but I’ll probably use Linux MultiMedia Studio.

If you’re just going into music, I might recommend Musagi. I’ve tried LMMS for 3 different LD events, but it never really worked out for me. Musagi seems to work flawlessly for the most part. Try both, and see which one you like most before the compo.

I’m in.

Since this is my 2nd Ludum Dare.. and my 2 1/2 years of programming.. Expect of me getting alittle newbie with myself 😛

Mah Language: Lua (Love2D)

Art Program: Paint.net

Sounds: Sfxr

Good luck for everyone participating 😀

Also, I reccomend Paint.Net for newer people, Gimp is GREAT but it’s a little more advanced.

My experience tells me that you should focus on a simple game that is really well polished. I usually split my time in half, the first one to make the game and the second one to polish it. Use it at your own discretion though :)

Thanks for the advice guys… Unfortunately, I couldn’t take most of it… :(

I managed to not have enough time to make sound effect, and only barely enough time to finish putting stand in sprites. But hey! It got finished! 😀

This shall be

…Feyleaf’s 7th time entering the Ludum Dare. I’m in!

Programming in: C++

Using: SFML 1.6 library

Ingesting: Lots of smoothies, eggs, toast, coffee, and vegetables

Producing sounds with: SFXR, PXTone, Audacity

Spriting with: GIMP and a drawing tablet (off-brand cheapo tablet)

Compiling for: Windows

In it to: Endure, finish the project, and score higher than I ever have before

I wish you all the best, and most of all, have fun!

I’m IN!

I’m in!! I’ll either be participating with my artist friend George Young or alone in the compo, either way I’ll be using the following tools;

-GameMaker 8.0 Pro

– Paint.Net

-SFXR

-Winamp (For Music)

If you wanna see what I’ve done thus far in my ‘career’, you can check out My Site .

Good Luck,

Have Fun.

I am in (or not.)!

I am in! Here are the tools I will be using:

Language: Html5, javascript

Libraries: None, maybe three.js

IDE: xCode

Sound: cfxr, audacity and home made analog synthesizer

Game designer looking for group

Hi,

I am a game designer with previous experience in game jams who’s looking for a group for this event. If you happen to need someone to tag along and make a great game, don’t hesitate to message me!

Cheers,

Marcelo Melo

Alright, I’m in.

After the terrible, terrible failure that was 7dfps, it’s time to disappoint my parents even more by making a shitty game in 48 hours.

Program: Unity / C#
Audio: Audacity and a Speech Synthesis Library for Unity.
Textures: Photoshop, if not just flat colours.

Totally in.

Can’t wait to get started. I think my team is going to take a break and we’re all going to enter the compo individually.

I think I’ll use Stencyl for its speed and ease of use and go with either inkscape or Photoshop for art. Sfxr for audio. Not sure what I’ll do for music yet.

BFXR is the improved SFXR and if you use a tool like that to generate sound I’m sure you’d love this tool which I found thanks to an I’m in post:

I’m In!

As long as this weekend goes as planned, I should have time to participate in Ludum Dare this time around!

As usual, I will be using:

  • FlashPunk/AS3
  • FlashDevelop
  • Paint.NET
  • BFXR

Change of plans

Because I’m a daredevil decided against using LOVE2D (my comfort zone) and I’m going to use Construct 2 something I’ve never used before 2 days is more than enough time to learn 😛

Good luck! I tried doing something similar one time and regretted it 3 hours later. But still, good luck! :)

I also find kinda funny that LOVE2D is your confort zone (pun intended).

Isn’t it “make a game” competition, not the “learn how to make a game” competition? 😉 C2 sometimes being pretty tricky to do exactly what you want. Anyway, I’m looking forward to see what you can do after 2 days of learning (no sarcasm, really).

I’m in!

I’m in! Although, this time I will be venturing out of my “go to framework” of XNA and using Python and PyGame on the Mac. I’ve recently moved and my main PC is still in pieces & won’t be put together for another couple of weeks. I’ll be using:

  • Code Runner
  • Python / PyGame
  • Photoshop CS

Looking forward to it!

I’m in (and I won’t make a Tower Defense)

I’m in :)

As usual, I will be using:

  • Haxe 2 (sorry, no Haxe 3 this time!)
  • Photoshop
  • LabChirp
  • Audacity
  • Chronolapse
  • Autotracker

About the LD subtheme thing

Seriously, a TowerDefense?! In my opinion, a theme constraint is:

  • a way to stimulate creativity,
  • a constraint that prevent people from preparing their game idea before the LD starts.

A TowerDefense subconstraint is just plain stupid. It’s the exact opposite:

  • forbids many many original game ideas,
  • allow people to actually prepare their gamedesign early.

Im in… For the second time round…

Now after my first Ludum Dare, I learned something very important, don’t rush, and don’t over do it. Do what your skills are capable of. My last, last minute Jam entry was just a fail, I never really did work on it after that as I said I would, but I hope for that to change. So again I will enter the compo and if that don’t work out, Jam it is.

Now tools

– IDE/Editor: Intellij, Codeblocks, or Unity3D

– Programming/Developing: LibGDX, SFML, or Mono

– Tools: Pyxel Edit, and various other audio visual tools (most of them on the ludum dare tools page)

– Timelapse/Streaming: XSplit, Chronolapse

– Other: Coffee lots of that, and sticking to my idea from the start.

Anyway I wish all of you the best of luck, and hope that everyone has a lot of fun.

Cheers,

Demetry
