LD27 August 23–26, 2013

Ludum Dare 27 is almost here!

Getting stoked for my first Ludum Dare (hopefully) “its time to nut up, or shut up”

Voice Acting?

I was thinking about the jam, and I was wondering, are voice actors aloud? Do they count as part of a team, and require a game to be in the jam instead of the compo? Just wondering. Thanks!

In my opinion, so long as they don’t contribute anything to the game except for voice and you give proper credit as just a sound source, it shouldn’t be considered collaboration. Just send them lines, they send you voice, nothing more.

What he says. The rules page has this to say about it: “Photos and recordings you make of people or things are acceptable content, just you must acquire them during the competition.”

Okay, thanks! I don’t know if I’m actually going to use voice acting. I was just curious. Good to know though.

Adding Sound To A Game?

Hey, I am getting all of my tools in order and working on a few different little projects to get setup for LD and I have ran into a problem, I have never good with sound. Like at all.

I don’t even know how to get sound playing and I am scared if I ever did, it would be unstable enough to make the game unplayable for some people. This brings me to a another topic, what is the best language (in your opinion, to you) for making sound?

I had minor success in Unity with sound, but in ‘dem hardcore languages I have never been able to get it working. (I tried Python, C++ w/ SDL, etc.)

Any help on the matter is appreciated.
Thanks!

I’m a pretty big fan of OpenAL for C++.

> generic “I’m in” post

Well, since everyone is making one of these I’ll make one too. I’ll be doing the compo, not the jam.
It’ll be the first Ludum Dare event I partake in and I hope I do good. I could make a fairly nice game in 48 hours given that I don’t waste time on anything else than coding and that the theme allows me to think

These are the tools I will be using for

Language: C#
Library: Monogame (Cross-compatible XNA)

IDE: Visual Studio 11
Graphics: Paint.net / Photoshop
SFX Gen: BFXR
BGM Gen: Autotracker-c
Timelapse tool: Chronolapse
Extra: Energy drink (Why not, I rarely drink them)

I will also be live streaming the whole event. Twitch.tv >> http://www.twitch.tv/theoxysoft/

I’m in!

This will be my 2nd LD! I plan to join the Jam this time, and I hope I wont fail miserably like last LD(I had fun anyway!).

Anyway I’ll be using the following:

-Code: C++
-Library: SFML2.1 with my personal codebase(too terrible to share right now)
-IDE: Visual Studio 12
-Pixels: Paint.NET/Gimp
-Sound and Music: BFXR/SFXR/Wolfram Tones/my microphone
-Misc.: Paper, pen, water, tea, maybe my camera to shoot some backgrounds

How would I.. um… know that they’re potato-flavored?

I’m in #2.

Second time creating a game, and it lines up snugly with a bank holiday in England. Shweet.

Tools: c++, Allegro 5, (possibly) Angelscript, Paint.net, Fruity Loops, Guitar Pro, brain, hands, face.

Haribo.

…lots of Haribo.

Base Code I’ll be using

Here’s the base code I’ll probably be using for the compo.

Feel free to do whatever you want with it 😀

I’m in!

Now is my third time i will be doing this and this time i might try adding actual graphics instead of lines, circles and squares 😛

My tools:

  • Language: Actionscript 3.0
  • Engine: FlashPunk
  • IDE: Flash Builder
  • Art: Paint.NET/Adobe Flash Pro
  • Sound: SFXR / BFXR
  • Music: Any music generator i can find 😀
  • Other: Google

ye

My 6th gamejam. Here we gooooo.

I’ll be using C#/XNA. Famitracker for sounds, and Aseprite for grafics.

I’m confident that I’ll finish.

Dynamic Sound Library

Hi there

During the last week I wrote an experimental sound library in flash.

The main idea is to make the use of sounds and music in webgames more dynamic.

And thanks to that much more interactive then before:

Not just the old ‘play/pause/stop when x’, but ‘faster/higher/deeper/more notes/less notes/new instrument when enemy x nearby’ etcetc. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination (and RAM).

Here are some features:

  • Load sounds and arrange them in “instruments”, set volume , pan, pitch
  • Play midi files (not supported in IE, sry)
  • Change tempo of midifile in realtime, synchronize it with … whatever you like ! 😉

More detail on github: https://github.com/herrlustig/00_DynSoundManager

Test it! : https://tuxli.ch/ld26/00_DynSoundManager/test_web_app/

But note: it’s still in an early stage, so use it on your own risk.

Naturally I will use it in my LD27 game as a reward for all the hard work 😀

Cheers

Absolutely Yes

Unity, Ableton Live, Gimp, Blender

Dedicating this one to my new wife.

Daring? Indeed.

This will be my first solo LD, and so I’m not sure what I’m going to come out with.

I’ve had a few vague ideas on where to go with various themes, but aside from that I’m starting assets from scratch.

I intend to use Unity and Unity Javascript as an engine and for scripting.

For models I will use Blender.

Textures and other art will be created in photoshop.

SFX will probably be vocal, or recorded around my house. (Perhaps in the style of prairie home companion, if I can manage it)

Music will probably be whatever I plink out on my guitar. Maybe it could be procedural, that is assuming I have music in my game.

Will use google for reference photos, debug information and a few other things.

This is going to be brilliant.

Im In! My first one!

C++/SFML

bfxr/whatever i happen to record

gmp/photoshop

I have little to no idea what exactly I am doing

I’m in!

Hi, I’m gonna enter the competition.

Probably going to use Flashpunk instead of Flixel for a change of pace. Better hope I have time in this week to get more Flashpunk cramming down!

I’m in!

Hi everyone!

This is my fourth Ludum Dare. Here’s what I’ll be using:

Language: HTML5 and JavaScript or ActionScript 3

Framework: ImpactJS or Flixel

IDE: Sublime Text 3 or FlashDevelop

Graphics: Adobe Illustrator

Music: FL Studio

Sounds: Bfxr

If I decide to use ImpactJS I’ll probably need to do some revision beforehand because I haven’t used it in a while!

Also, I might try to stream this time. My upload speed is usually terrible though, so it might not be possible.

Anyway, good luck and have fun! :)
