Ludum Dare jam “tool” proposal

Hi folks!

I have one proposition about jam part of ludum dare.

What are you thinking about making a page or subpage for people who are looking for Jam partners?
Propably a lot of competitors are making games by theirselfes because they aren’t enthusiast making game with team
or they aren’t able to find people in their enviroment. The purpouse of this tool would be to encourage and motivate
people to make new connections with other potential people willing to participate in Jam.

It comes with advantages:

  • meeting new people and potential partners for future projects
  • it can be a good language exrecise when you are communicating with people (for non-english people)
  • new experience for people who didn’t work in team
  • motivation to learn how to use GitHub
  • people can learn about finding good partners

If it this idea will meet with considerable acceptance I’m able to make this kind of page/tool.

Please write comments about your thoughts.

First Ludum Dare entry!

I decided to enter my first Ludum Dare!  I’ve never finished a single game before so I am hoping to get something more or less playable.  It is going to be tough as I really dont have much time to do this, don’t really know what I am doing, and I was concerned at the theme(s) as, although pretty rich, they actually didn’t give me much specific direction like say “You only get one” did.

Anyway, despite that I’ve decided to riff on ‘conspiracy’ and ‘scheme’ and have come up something very vaguely based on the Gun Powder Plot.  The general idea is that you’re Fawkes and you need to blow up the King in a 2D top-down city + Box2D style stuff.  I’ve got a great vision in my mind about what it is going to look like but I suspect it will fall really shot as this is my first entry!

Will get some screenshots up when I’ve got something interesting to show.

Spy Thriller – MiniLD #48

Screenshot update. Working on a spy thriller stealth game in which you have to thwart a supervillains evil scheme inside his volcano base! Trying to do all these animations is hard!

Basic game physic/mechanics are in place with some programmer art!  Need to start making it more “game”y.

conspiracy school

My first MiniLD, the theme gave me tons of ideas and I will try compress them into a tight time frame.

You are an agent working for a non-existent organization, you specialize in public cover-ups, these may range from body replacements due to political assassinations, building and planting fake evidence to trick the public into believing the existence of extra terrestrial life, or crafting dinosaur bones. These are just some of the ideas and we will see how much I can get in.

I started on this Caturday morning, and have a game framework built up with the body building working. I am using Python and PyGame.

A series of smaller mini games tie the larger goal together. Here we see the evidence builder, where you construct your fake items.

A video!

Oh hey, blocks and sound fading in and out of existence. I have to add different particle effects for each colour and work out some puzzles for this idea, but I’m liking the way it’s progressing so far.

Last Word

Untitled-2

I have an idea for this Mini-Ludum Dare that progressively got further away from the themes the more it rolled around my brain. They will still be incorporated into the setting but I was hoping to use the themes mechanically as well. I guess it doesn’t matter too much for a Mini-Ludum Dare and, hey, the theme didn’t seem to matter much in LD28 either (oh snap, did he go there).

Because background noise and shaky hand-cam are the best way to present stuff I have made a Vine of my progress so far. Right now I have all the player character mechanics in, but everything they interact with and the world itself is very much a work in progress.

Room 1307

At least I have finished story for my MiniLD game.

Temporary name is “Room 1307”.

I don’t want to tell any spoilers, but it’s probably will be mysterious detective thriller about man who wanted to find out who killed his sister.

If I made it, i think it would be interesting game which can be published (after weeks of finishing and polishing) on Desura and IndieGameStand.

Stay tuned and follow me and ‘Room 1307’ =)

Platforms and facade

Hi, I’m in this Mini Ludum Dare with a game called ‘Platforms and facade’:

This games starts as a very simple platform game, but then start to happen things that are unusual for a platform game.

My progresses until now:

– 5 levels done

-Core mechanics done

-There are sounds for jumping and dying

What this game will look like once comlpeted:

– 20 levels

– Perhaps one more core mechanic

– A level selecting screen

– (Perhaps) A background music

The graphics are very minimalistic and the sounds are created with bfxr

MiniLD: Meddling Little Wizards Progress

mlw3

Meddling Little Wizards – a game where you play a dark wizard lord trying to keep his conspiracies private from a school of little annoying wizard students – is coming along. Although not a quickly as I thought.

This is the first time I’m doing a timelapse video as well and the first benefit of that is I know exactly how much time I spent programming. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to program continuously so I started on Thursday (I hope this is OK even if I stretched the rules a bit there).

So far I’ve put in 12 hours, which is quite a lot more than I would have guessed. Time flies when you’re having fun :)

Also, I’m using GitHub this time: https://github.com/Udo/MiniLD48

MiniLD #48 Progress

Our progress

I think our game is coming good along… this is the first Ludum Dare I have participated in and I think the result gets better and better. I have submitted it but we are still working on it.

I have made a level selection system and a few levels, some basic controls and gameplay.

Hopefully we will be able to make some more levels.

We are 3 persons working on the game. We are 13 and 12 years old.

My Mini Ludum Dare 48 Game — Sasquatch

So far, I have the map down in my game Sasquatch, using the theme conspiracy. I have to edit how I want the map to generate, because right now it’s just a chance that trees spawn in certain blocks.

Progress!

Screen1

So after much ado, I managed to get movement, and a nice little collision system working. Next I’ll be intigrating platform elements. I’m also thinking ahead on how to include the theme. The screen above is all I have at the moment, but it has a lot going on under the hood.

My submission

My submission is a text adventure game called Deception. It has graphical backgrounds and multiple actions. See you Monday!

P.S. That’s my real name.

Awesome, love text adventures!

Dang, this thing is so buggy- Oh cool!

So my relative novice and laziness have conspired to make my game a bit more interesting. You see, while programming this basic platform engine, I accidentally included a handful of bugs which actually make fairly good gameplay elements. Among these are the ability to teleport to the top of a wall by running into it, and the ability to stick to ceilings by jumping into them, but the inability to get down without sliding off an edge. I’m hoping to code in a few more elements, then start cranking’ out levels. I’m thinking I’ll make a quick level editor in Game Maker, just to make placement easier.

Mini Ludum Dare Dev Blog #2

Ive fallen Ill :( Such a bad time.

I had to go into hospital yesterday afternoon and I have just gotten out about an hour ago :/ Im sorry to say that due to that “inconvenience” I will have to back out of this Ludum Dare due to lack of time.

On a slight upside, I managed to finish my tetris styled game. I obviously can not enter it into this Ludum Dare since it took a tad longer than 48 and wasnt made in the competition time.

Hope to see you guys in the next Ludum Dare though!

I hope you get well soon, glad to hear about the tetris clone. You can still play all the games though =D

Potentially making a Post LD version of Rude Bear Resurrection (first for innovation in jam)

I just caught my housemate who made the pixel art for Rude Bear Resurrection playing the game again, and he told me, “I was just thinking about how good a game it is, and how it’d be awesome if we’d implemented all the features we wanted”.

I’m not promising anything, but.. I really want to do this right now. Here’s a list of features we wanted to implement:

Village

The village would above Rude Bear’s grave, to the left of the tower. It would contain a bunch of NPCs who demand sidequests to be complete within the tower, which allow shortcuts and unlock things that help you advance.

Training Area

There was originally going to be a section on the left where you could practise walljumps and beat nonlethal obstacles. A large assault course, essentially. And at the very top, there was going to be a hermit who wanted you to collect hidden Wizard statues from crevices in the castle.

Winner’s Statue

The winner was going to get a statue in front of the tower dedicated to them.

Ghosts

After dying, you were going to leave your body and be able to fly around the tower.

Chatbox

We wanted an ingame IM system that ghosts could use to speak to people, we were going to make a graveyard where you could talk to other bears, and read the messages of the deceased before you entered the tower for tips.

Winner can deactivate switches

The winner would spawn at the end of the game and be able to work their way back, closing the shortcut switches, thus safeguarding their reign.

Enemies

Winners would be able to transmute into enemies that Rude Bear could fight, possibly place traps.

Real Time Network Play

HOLY SHIT, RIGHT? Dunno if this is possible.

Tower Destruction

Through completing quests for the hermit, you would be able to get the ultimate Super Saiyan power that’d allow you to do something I won’t reveal here, but it would allow you to completely destroy the tower.

Randomly generated towers

There’d be randomly generated towers that are around until someone destroys it.

Daily Tower

One tower would be the Daily Tower that could only be completed once.

Expanded Narrative

Speaks for itself.

Dynamic Soundtrack

The music would be layered, and the different layers would activate/deactivate depending on the threat level.

Elaboration on the Rude Bear Timeline

The Rude Bear timeline is something that exists. It contains things like “The Hero is Successful timeline” and “The Hero is Unsuccessful timeline”, the Polite timeline, the dream timeline, the deranged timeline etc.

We know about it, but we never told it to anyone else. It’s time people learned just what Rude Bear’s deal is.

A proper GUI, tweaked physics, controller support, and tidied up world

Better water

More puzzle types, potentially moveable objects, powers, equips

SFX and more/better music.

More bosses, cameos from monsters from previous Rude Bear games etc.

Accounts

That’s essentially it. If you think something is really a bad idea (or a really good idea I guess), it’d help to get some feedback.

Cheers

Alex

Progress update

progress-2

I’ve now got some basic gameplay in there and the King and the Police will spawn randomly around the city – currently you’ve got a limited amount of time and explosives to try and catch him.  Next I need to work on building out the city with sounds & atmosphere etc.  If I get the time I’d like to put in some more advanced NPC behaviour but we’ll see if I get that time!

Oh and a name and plot too! I give you “Fawkes’ Conspiracy”!

“In an alternate reality, after the discovery of their gunpowder plot and after the flight of his co-conspirators, Fawkes narrowly avoided arrest; his new scheme is to find the King in his hiding place somewhere in old London town and blow him up!

Direct Fawkes through the gloomy streets on his race against time to find the King and destroy the monarchy!”

music toy thing?

just decided to join minild for the first time, and started experimenting around an idea. i interpreted the theme scheme a bit differently and came up with a musical box thing, thinking about the concept of patterns. i was somewhat doing well for a while and having fun. it, however, ended up as a weird toy to play around rather than a game for now, and i honestly have no idea how to go further. :) any suggestions?

here’s the last build i made. you can use qwer and asdf keys to interact.

rubikbox

oh, and i guess it’s called RubikBox.

cheers.

Having the time of my life

So much to do, so little time!

I got 2 mini games done, these mini games add up as a whole to glue the story.

me being funny and building an alien body with human parts – a true chimera!

screenshot-2014-01-11-20:28:15

A good coverup means knowing when to get shot down! avoid gunfire until you reach the GO-zone, get your UFO shot down, people discover bodies, conspiracy et viola!

screenshot-2014-01-11-20:27:08

accuracy at body construction and mission completion results in public opinion.

screenshot-2014-01-11-20:27:24

Plans are to add a couple more other “evidence planting” types, like infiltrating a govt offices / morgues to replace evidence, or burying hoaxed up dinosaur / mythological bones for someone to discover. Also lacking is sound and some effects (explosions from hit craft etc).
