Ken Vs. Ken – I’ve Done it at Last!

Ken Vs. Ken is complete! Yeah! Yeah!

Errr…. *ahem*

There is a title screen:

Screenshot-Ken Vs. Ken - Mini-LD #20 (Greed, Only One of Each)-2

You can play both 1 player against an AI or with 2 players on one machine!

There is a black “curtain” that scrolls across the screen between rounds, there are signs that say things like “Ready”, “Start”, “You Lose!”, and “Player 1 Wins!” that scrolls down at the beginning and end of rounds, and the health bars scroll up off the top of the screen at the end of a round and down into place at the beginning of each round!

All in all, I’m very, very happy. I’ve finally done it: I’ve finally finished an LD game.

Here are a couple more screenies: (No round begin/end shots, though. Can’t pause during that time)

A fight well underway. Forgot who won that one. I think it was Ken.

No downloads. 😛

A little preview

So I’ve gotten all the utility code done. Pretty simple code, I just I had to test it to make sure it worked. Here is a screenshot of my terrible spaceship and city background. :)

What the ufo and background look like

What the ufo and background look like

Now I know I won’t get an award in presentation. >.> The background is one image, not really any kind of object or gameplay changer. Anyways, it’s pretty much nonfunctional, I just assembled this to see if the functions worked and to show you guys here at LD. 😀

Update

A screenshot of game in progress. As you can see its pretty much high tech stuff.

What program are you using to make the game?

Setbacks…

Unfortunately, I’m going to need to remake my game because i can’t get some the math right and it’s taking too long to figure out.

– reasons to work on code before making almost every graphic.

…I hope I can get this finished…

Greedy gang fail.

Idea or at least my implementation didn’t turn out very fun and I’m too lazy to start it all from scratch. So, I ingloriously withdraw from compo.

Learned lesson: think better about what you want to get in the end.

Here’s a couple of screenshots:

It looks weirdly intriguing to me, how about you finish it anyway?

greedy chase scene

wantevery1

my game’s about chasing a person (is that all?)

I’m almost done with the coding, just need to finish some animations, add some more backgrounds and have a nice ending.

Oh my god, its full of stars! Thats all I can say when trying to run your game because all it shows on my computer is a bunch of stars. Can you please fix this as I really want to try your game?

Sushi Overload – MiniLD #20 FINAL!

I’m very happy to report that my entry into the Ludum Dare MiniLD #20 is complete. The game is called “Sushi Overload” and stars a greedy cat named Fattikins who loves fish. After getting bored with traditional fishing, he gets a better idea: fishing with GRENADES!

Cut to a big explosion and tons of fish falling form the sky. Gobble up as many as you can but watch out for debris like tires, anvils, broken bottles and TNT.

Pace yourself! If you get too greedy and eat too much you will start to move slower and slower.

The game is written in HTML5, with a fallback to Flash on older browsers for the music and sound. No downloads required, you can play right away at this link, which also has some screenshots and a timelapse video of the entire process:

I really enjoyed working on this, my very first game compo. I hope to write many more in the future. I would LOVE your comments, feedback, encouragement. If you comment on my game I will happily test, review and comment on yours.

Play the game!

Kind regards,

Ninja Vs. Zomibe Pirate Fish

I’ve been working hard on Ninja Vs. Zombie Pirate Fish.  Heres a few screens.

Screenshot-Ninja Vs. Zombie Pirate Fish-1

Screenshot-Ninja Vs. Zombie Pirate Fish

So your a ninja who is swimming around trying to get treasure, and kill all the evil zombie pirate fish!
Simple controls, D pad to navigate and space throws a throwing star ( you only get 20! ).   The red box is the collision detection in debug mode, so that will be gone.  I just need to fill in the rest of the level and make the boss.  I don’t think I’ll have time to make better graphis, or audio :(

You obviously took no-object-repeating rule very seriously, congrats on that.

Poop Snake

Okay, so here’s my first ever Ludum Dare entry. I’ve embraced my inner 12 year old and made poop a central focus of the game, along with eating apples and cake (It’s greedy, I swear! The cake is stolen.) It started out as a cliché snake game in which the snake goes around eating things to grow, and pooping them out. But a bug in the pooping code gave the snake diarrhea, and it was so hilarious I had to make it a feature.
poopsnakeGameplayIn the game you control a greedy pooping snake that will eat anything, but if it eats the walls, itself, or its own poop, it dies. The apples are healthy, and make the snake poop little poops. But the cake is a lie, and will give the snake the runs, which gets worse as the snake grows. The controls are simply the arrow keys. The animation is a bit jerky and the game is slow at first, but gets fairly challenging as the snake goes faster and there’s more poop.

The game uses Allegro 5, which is still in development so you have to download it with subversion in order to build the game. I’ve only built it with Linux, so the build system is likely broken on other platforms. Should be a cinch to port though.

I’d LOVE to play this game but am not going to download and install your game maker software just to be able to play one game :(

Covetous

I had to go into work on both Saturday and Sunday, but in the time between I put together this little number.

Covetous

01

I got a lot of influence from Increpare, especially when it came to the sound.

At first I wanted there to be more focus on the choice in the end, between letting the boy live or tearing out of him to be free.  But by the time I got to the ripping scene it had became a game of anger, and the correct answer became very obvious.  There was so much time put into the story of the parasite and not the boy, which is why the game was led into that direction.

I’m very pleased with the way it was presented.  The no-duplicate policy for this mini-dare caught me off guard at first.  I was forced to put the flesh into different positions that I might not have before, so I’m that rule existed.  :)

I hope you guys play it with an open mind and get something out of it.  Thank you!

[final] Greedy Fishing

Ok, after some huddle with my gui I finally can present:

‘Greedy Fishing’

You and your opponent are fishing, trying to get the most out of the lake that can be handled by your boat. All you have to do is to decide to get another fish or if you think you got enough you can see what the computer is doing… Actually I wanted to add much more stuff, but time is running out, so have fun.

This game is kind of addictive in a gambling-game kind of way. Even though its only one button gameplay I actually want to play more 😀
19. Jul 2010 · 08:43 UTC
Hehe, thx! Actually there is no real goal yet, just fishing vs the computer is boring after one match. I think I will add something like a possibility to bet some money on the single games so you have some progress in in(de)creasing your money. Maybe with online-score.
19. Jul 2010 · 13:38 UTC
Looks great bad sadly I get “unable to launch application” error message. I do have java, and I told my firewall app to allow it full access… Perhaps you could package this as a regular exe, or a regular non webstart java applet? Webstarts are often a little flaky, maybe it is just me, if so please forgive my stupidity.
19. Jul 2010 · 18:54 UTC
Hmm,…e.g. I couldn’t start it with 64bit java! But you are right, I should create an executable version as well! Can you me tell about your configuration!??
19. Jul 2010 · 20:10 UTC
Hmm,..seems jnlp have to write access to cache the jar-files. Have a look here, that might help:

[final] Mini ld48h #20 – Release 1: Trash & Treasure

This was a fun contest any further releases will be marked as such, the main thing that I might add later is a High Score keeping routines. Most of the images were taken with a cellphone and Highly scaled down the rest was lazily drawn.

The Game is available at My Goggle Site for download (look under screen-shots).

Enjoy the game:

Update: Inventory and Treasure

I was happily working at 3AM when a power outage struck. My UPS kept my desktop alive for a few minutes. My laptop battery ran out within the hour. For a good chunk of my waking hours, I couldn’t work on the code. To top it off, one of the candles almost became a roaring fire somehow, so once I put that out, it was completely dark except for intermittent lightning, which meant I couldn’t even work on design.

In the morning, I went to a backup location which still had power, and I continued.

It’s now an hour after the “deadline”, and I don’t have a finished game yet. There’s some game play, but there’s no challenge or enemy.

Inventory and Treasure!

The old man can pick up items, use the unique fishing pole to reel in unique items in hard-to-reach areas, such as the unique flask and unique spatula, as well as the unique gate key, which opens the unique gate.

The world is one giant image, and collision detection uses a black and white version of that image.

I’m exhausted, and I’m having trouble seeing how to proceed. Do I work on the monkey thief? I originally envisioned him jumping around the map, and if you encountered him, he could hit you, sending you all the way back to your home, and you’d lose one of your items. To implement that vision, I need (1) basic AI, (2) unique movement code, (3) a special game state for getting hit by the guy, and (4) a way to avoid/defeat him. Making each usable item unique has been time-consuming, and I’ve only made two so far! Doing all of the above is probably going to need another weekend.

Asterism

asterism

I just submitted my first (Mini) Ludum Dare entry!

I call it Asterism, since it’s about collections of stars. You collect stars at the start and then you use them to shoot a massive horde of enemies that advances ever toward you. Every game object is a randomly generated rectangle, so no repeats of anything.

You can play it here: http://www.vrac.iastate.edu/~reu/metablast2010/asterism/

WOW I really like the gravity effect when the stars cluster together. Great work, very playable.
19. Jul 2010 · 00:52 UTC
this ran pretty slowly on my laptop (macbook/osx 10.6 w/ firefox). I think I liked the idea, though I didn’t fully understand why getting more stars at the start puts you at any sort of advantage.
19. Jul 2010 · 02:03 UTC
Awesomeness!!!

I got over 1000000 points!!! 😀

It seems like the more stars you get the slower you fire them at the enemy.

Am I right?…

Screwing it off.

I might have to completely screw the idea I have.

Why? It’s too complicated to finish in 3-4 hours for someone who doesn’t even know pygame that well.

So what I AM doing is making a game where you are an alien saucer that steals minerals from planet Earth. Simple.

Want Everything!

MiniLD #20 FINAL – Greed

This was the first time I participated, thanks in advance to anyone who at least gives this game a shot. Since no-object-repeating rule was too crippling I decided to approach this project with a very light hart. It was made in 8 hours of sloooow work, and you can notice how artwork suffers in last few screens, in the end I even had to pinch a photograph from internet. Although very minimalistic, the game hides a compelling  storyline.

I’ll upload source when I feel like it right now I need some sleep (its 3:18 AM).

I liked how the cat was there for pretty much every scene. Was the black cat supposed to represent bad luck? And I really liked how they guy’s face changes when the money flies away. B-)

Mini Ludumdare entry!

Here it is, my first Ludumdare entry. I went with a side scrolling platformer type game built in Flash with Actionscript 2.0.

screenshot1
I’ve uploaded it to my blog, here: http://hellfangvidya.blogspot.com/2010/07/greed-my-mini-ludumdare-20-entry.html

You play as the personification of greed and must try to move through the levels without being pushed off screen. You can eat items scattered around to increase your score but they will also make you heavier, thus making it more difficult to progress through the level. Being too greedy may result in you not being able to jump over an obstactle.

All edible items are unique, there are about 16 different items with different weights and properties. Sometimes the player character will request a certain kind of item at the end of a level and bonus points can be obtained by eating an item that matches it’s description.

Might be a few bugs still, I haven’t tested it much (it’s pretty hard :\) but it’s releasable at least.

The final (5th) level has a fishing theme.

I’m not a fan of platformers but the character is cure and I love his jump and eat animations

Wow hellfang your game is GREAT! I absolutely love the “eating” animation. I’m also impressed that you got it to collide with curved surfaces like near the end of level one.

Thanks guys 😀
22. Jul 2010 · 10:37 UTC
i like the drool off of Greed’s mouth. The eating animation was great, and I thought the game played smoothly. I like how if you eat too much, you can’t jump as high, which means you have to go through the lower portions of the level, which tend to be harder.
