Workspace Picture Bandwagon

The mouse pad is temporary, I don't care about football.

Since everyone appears to be doing so, I’m gonna take a photo of my workspace too!

Game factory I’m joining my mates and spending the weekend answering the call of the “Ludum Dare”.

I know C++ and I need to know Ogre 3D(don’t know) so I’ll use those two. Had a lecture on genetic algorithms recently so I’ll likely try one for the dare if it fits.

If I get something submitted then I’ll be happy. I will be doing tutorials on Ogre and reading the slides on machine learning and genetic algorithms so I wont get much done but hopefully something. If not then at least it will be a learning experience.

I’m also using as per suggestion sfxr which just seems priceless and audiere if  it integrates okay with Ogre. Cause I’m a student I get to use MSVS2010. Err and I’m going to try out that crono thing for a time lapse video.

It’s likely that my graphics will be procedural and if not I might use paint.net I guess. I doubt I will produce anything beyond a windows version. Yeah this is my first Ludum however I do have experience making 2D games, this might be my first 3D if I stick to my plans.

Good Luck everyone! and don’t overdo it!

Whaaa? Is that a motherboard just laying on a table with epic equipment hooked up to it? EPIC.

yeah that’s awesome. Invisible case ftw.

Another first-timer declaring some personal code

Hoping to make an entry in this LD, after following it for a while.

Tools:

  • C++ (Visual Studio 2010)
  • Libs (so far): Direct2D (oh noes :D), FMOD, Boost & TinyXml
  • Graphics: Inkscape
  • Music: Adlib Tracker, probably

And here’s my personal code, which was, in part, extracted and heavily refactored from my existing codebase in quite a rush (nothing like a disk crash 6 hours before contest start to motivate one), so it’s bound to have lots of bugs.

My first Ludum Dare!

My name is Bruno, this is my first LD48.

Tools:
– sfxr
– Paint.Net
– Processing
– Chronolapse

Good luck to everybody!!

So you guys post desk pics eh

Let me show you mine

(yes, I use my TV as screen right now. Also it’s midnight here so I had to switch on my lamp, so you might not be able to see the kick-ass BIT.TRIP FLUX wallpaper on my Ubuntu)

Desk Photo! Unmade Food Photo!

Yup! I am so ready to roll. I couldn’t sleep this morning so I got up early and started reading game design blogs.

Also this morning, I purchased 40 pounds of satsumas. So I will probably eat some of those this weekend.

Also, I kinda buried my link to my base code, so here it is again.

Hey, look, another 1st timer!

Hi there everyone! Although I’ve looked at some past Ludum Dare games, this is my first time actually participating in the Dare. And honestly, I’m not really ready, despite being a 3rd year CS major that should know what he’s doing. But hey, it’s a learning experience, right? And a great way to celebrate the start of my Christmas vacation as well!

Anyway, here’s my tools:

Coding: C# w/ XNA 3.1 via Visual Studio 2008.  No base code, though.

Graphics: GIMP w/ a Fujitsu Lifebook Tablet PC. Probably won’t actually use the tablet features, though.

Sound Effects: sxfr, which goes good with…

Music: Famitracker. I REALLY like how this allows for pure NES music. No “8-bit” midi conversion, the real thing.

Time Lapse: Chronolapse. Just the screen though. The webcam built into the laptop is terrible, and honestly I really don’t like showing my face to the Internet. At least right now.

Considering all this, and the fact that I am a decent programmer and composer but a terrible artist, I’ll probably be going for a “retro” look no matter what the theme.

One more thing: I also happen to be the vice president of my college’s game development club, and by coincidence our last game jam of the semester is this Saturday. I told the group about Ludum Dare, so maybe a few will sign up or maybe they’ll be a jam game from the group. We only do 12 hours of work at our jams, so I wouldn’t expect much for Ludum Dare itself, but a lot of the time we do expand on the concepts we create. So, something good will come out of it no matter what.

Hope to have some good news at the end of all of this!

Cambridge Indies Unite! :D

Early tomorrow morning I’ll be heading to CB2 to make a game for Ludum Dare! Huzzah! I’ll post some photos of the charming and sexy developers filled with stress, dread and strawberry milkshakes!

Here’s what I’ll be using:

  • Hardware: Sony Vaio Laptop
  • Engine: Unity 3.1
  • Code: C# via Monodevelop
  • Graphics: Photoshop + 3DSMAX
  • Sound: Garageband, SFXR + Audacity

Super excited about this, although I have no ideas for any of the themes! Let’s see what fate deals me in a few hours!

Dudes! If you can somehow rig up a timelapse of the bistro, that would be totally awesome. 😀

I’d love to join you guys, but a 3-hour coach/train journey in the weather forecast for tomorrow doesn’t seem like the best idea :(

Lets DO THIS!

OK, I’m all ready for entering Ludum Dare #19!

Porridge, check.
Cat, check.
Flashpunk, check.
IRC, check.
Bed, check.

OK LETS DO THIS!!!!! Right after I go to bed.

Shiny!

Another first timer

In the us in washington dc. Will be at work until 4am or so tonight and tomorrow so we will see what I can do with only the afternoons. Will probably be using flixel and graphicsgale. Not sure about sound.

Did too much thinking about game design and not enough doing in college. It’s what I’m really into so these things are a great catalyst. Will probably just be jamming, not competing because of work. Hooray service industry!

If anyone is in the dc area and wants to cojam tomorrow afternoon, I will be at midcity caffe on fourteenth.

AS3 Template

Depending on what I decide to make, I use either Processing or AS3. Here’s a really simple AS3 template which I will use if I go the AS3 route:

HIPSTER DESK PHOTO

It’s too easy to just post a picture of your desk, but how many people can be super hipster about it?

Workspace

The space in which I shall do work:

I was going to use codeblocks and mingw, but I had issues with dependencies and am falling back on msvc…

I’m using Ogre for graphics, OIS for input, Gorilla for basic GUI, bullet for physics, chaiscript for scripting and irrKlang for audio (oh and also fastdelegate for delegates). I’m using a custom framework, which I will release as soon I finish (with 2hrs left that’ll be hopefully soon…).

Joining the fun

LD18 didn’t went for me as planned as I was really busy that week-end and couldn’t finish at all. I didn’t get further than the initial idea. :(

But there is another chance for me in less than two hours and I feel confident that I will do some actual coding this time. I’m going to be joining the compo. Although there will probably be no Subway sandwich food photo this time as I stocked up on snacks so I don’t even need to leave the house.

My tools of choice:

  • Compiler / IDE: FreePascal 2.4.3 / Lazarus 0.9.29
  • Framework: Self-made on top of SDL, SDL_mixer, SDL_ttf and Vampyre Imaging
  • Basecode: Download here (3.2 MB)
  • Graphics: Cinema 4D, Blender, GIMP, Pixelmator, Paint and my cheap A5 graphics tablet and maybe even Sculptris depending on the theme
  • Sound: SFXR/CFXR, Microphone and Voice Candy
  • Music: GarageBand
  • Timelapse: Chronolapse under Windows, my little screenshot command-line tool + Timelapse Assembler under Mac OS X

More stuff like a desk photo if you click to view this as a full post.

As promised, here is my desktop:

Most of the development will be done on the macbook, the PC connected to the large screen will be most likely used for checking out what others have done and having some music playing in the background. I love XBox 360 gamepads and consequently my entry will also be playable with this controller.

This time around I want to spice thing up a bit and I do something I’ve never done before. I will try to make a video each day where I’m gonna be talking about the progress I made and what I’m exactly planning to do. I made a dry run and here is the result: Link to my first VLog-thingy. Keep in mind that I’m not really good at making videos. Not yet anyways.

First Time

Hi all,
This will be my first time entering the competition, my friend Entar has been suggesting I try it for awhile now. I’m very much looking forward to it. My current plan is use C# with SFML. I’m considering using Colors! (NDS homebrew painter) to draw graphics; my pixel art and 3d modeling skills are nonexistent. I’m not at all sure how well this will go since I haven’t worked on a game for quite some time. Over the past day or so I’ve started to implement some base code targeted at tile based games and plan to use that. I’d really like to write an RPG but with the time constraints, I don’t think that’s a realistic goal.

#ifndef CODEBASE

Dumping the code to my incomplete ‘cabbage’ game engine here in case I use it. Won’t be sure if I’m going to be using it or not until the theme is announced.
