LD19 December 17–20, 2010

Let’s code it up!

back from my wonderful 8.5 hours of sleep, and I’m ready to implement some sort of actual game-play! (this post totally isn’t just so I can click me name to see my previous posts and find out what I was supposed to do today).

The Second Day Begins: LD19

Alright, I’m back, and after a quick breakfast I will be on my way to pick up my fellow LDer.  After that — We’ll be both back to work!

I’m happy with my progress so far.  While I’ve taken perhaps a bit more time to work on the graphics than I should, it’s given me something quite nice to look at so far.  The basic controls are done, I just need to start adding in the rest of the game play mechanics.  Obstacles to completing the game are next on my list to do.

After that, I’ll be spending as much time creating levels in Tiled as I can.

First playable build

The intro and the first level are finished. Behold, in all its ASCII’d glory

Really really cool ! The ascii render of the faces works perfectly. I will try to finish the first level as soon as I find some spare time :)

It’s not exactly “finishable” at the moment, but hey ^^;

LD19: Day One

Just woke up and thought I’d upload yesterday’s timelapse in case I get hit by a bus today (whilst sitting at my desk) so that you may all mourn the loss of what surely would have been a very mediocre game :)

Paleontology is fun!

Not yet a game (story of my LD life).

even if this isn’t yet a game, it’s pretty fun!

Lol. Looks fun indeed. Maybe you could implement a dinosaur name generator!

Getting somewhere :( maybe

I made space, now I just have to make all the planets in it :(

(Internet here is bad… poops! Miss reading all the posts)

You’re awesome, Bento!

Things starting to look good!

Some progress update… With hours to spare I think I actually might finish a gameplay demo this night, despite my urge to sort place all my funny pictures in dropbox and sort them (I got close to 2 gb and dropbox started to complain). I need to get a foodbreak now, since well… I’m hungry :) But first…

Foodphotos!

And the game screenshot!

Playersprite is almost done, worldsprites needs more work and I haven’t even started on the enemy(evil monkey) sprite.

And yes, the player/hero is partly based on/inspired by Heffer from Rocko’s Modern Life.

Forget the robot being downtown. What is a duck doing swimming in the air! I like your robot’s design. Unicycled robots are the best. XD

Could he be discovering stuff? Just a guess 😛

I’m probably out

I got a dungeon and maze generator working, but then I realized that I really never like to play roguelikes and that the there really isn’t any other console based game that could fit the theme.

Maybe next time.

I’m making a console-based game that isn’t a rougelike.

You can now shop!

Who wouldn’t want better ghost stunning?

Slowly going somewhere

In the spirit of sharing what we are doing, I’ll share my nicest asset of them all:

My little space rock, if can fly, space travel, and land and take off :)

1st day… not a great start, but a great concept

Sort of became a jam contestant rather than solo – went round to a friend’s house (Steve) to steal snacks + food and jammed on the concept. Got something pretty decent going idea-wise (sort of an Alan Wake-esque torchlight mechanic where the player has to locate/discover diseased cattle)

Progress is kind of crummy at the moment (started late) but the work-in-progress lasagne may fix that:

The mario ? box was a huge inspiration

Working environment

Pringles have so far been a staple food

Gostly Roguelike #3

I’m starting to work on the battle mode, thats going to take a while

I improved the light system a bit, now there are torches that increase the illumination, if you can see them

Wow, such a small resolution, and your pixels are still huge… I’m curious to play this one.

I love your pixels. I love them so much.

So far, So good.

Given that this is my first Dare, and my first real stab at game creation, this isn’t going too badly!

The grid is randomly generated  with each ? representing an unvisited tile. The size varies every time as will the tile type when I finish deciding all the floor types. I’ve not decided whether I’ll create level sets, or just let the game create an entirely different map everytime.

Still, the Strictly Come Dancing final is on, so I’m taking a break.

BRB.

Sat, 8 PM, 17/48 passed

Five hours later, and finally the sliding works. I’m sure this will have been the feature that took the longest to implement.

I’ve also added some extra features, like a compass.

The maze is moving!

The maze is moving!

Next, the win condition, levels and score will be implemented. This should be possible in about two hours I suppose.

After that , I’ll be playing around with some different behaviors, before starting on the graphics, sound and polishing.

I have the start of something!

Spherical worlds!

Loving the color palette there. 😀

I am doing it wrong

As I have no chance to code on Day #1 and have to do it all on Day #2, I started with GFX and music. That’s feeling odd.

Anyways, here you have a mockup

And here’s the music from the intro
Download from Dropbox.com

Try to make some sense out of this. Have fun guessing 😀
