Core mechanics done!

I'm making a tower defense game, in space. And I have got the basic functionality done!! It also works nicely on Android, WebGL and also Desktop!!!

You place turrets on Asteroids by clicking them, and any trespassers who get killed will cause reward of points, with which you can upgrade the turrets!

Music Preview for Asteroid Aggressors

Here's a preview of the music for our small world game jam. Lots of fear and loneliness on our small world, deep in outer space :alien:

Day 1 Recap

I did pretty well on my first day of Ludum Dare ever. Since I work and am doing this solo, my time is pretty much limited to the weekend. I've managed to get the core mechanics done and a basic Level 1 up and running. Still need to do the UI and then make a bunch of levels, which I hope to get done today (Sunday).

The Small World concept is that you are in a computer and must blast bits to find the exit of each level. The feeling is somewhat claustrophobic and confined. I spent an inordinate amount of time tracking down a pesky bug on yesterday and I'm feeling the pressure to be super productive today. I'm in a good spot, with a decent game developing, and should be able to get it close to "done" tonight. We shall see! :)

Paper Jam!

My game is a completely hand-drawn platform game that takes place entirely on a piece of paper. This isn't a sketch, this is my live game:

It's almost finished, I'm adding some final obstacles and challenges in now. The music was created using Nanoloop (GBA) and the sound effects on LSDJ (GB). Shame I ran out of time to make those better, but they're okay. Really happy with how it looks, even if the game is pretty straightforward.

Oh, and here's the game if you want a little play around. This version doesn't have enemies or obstacles in it but you get the idea. Desktop browser only.

Happy tune

Here's the main tune for my entry, so "happy" that I don't know where it came from :P Made with Korg M01D on a Nintendo 2DS

Bear in mind that it's supposed to be looped

Gun

The player can shoot bullets! (the gun doesn't show properly in the gif) bullets.gif going to work on the enemy AI now ;)

NO BORDERS, NO NATIONS

Today was super work-intensive, wresting with Unity Bugs and lack of sleep. I found out a lot of... interesting things about the "new" Unity GUI.

Also wrote some code, but my game has scope problems, and there are only 6 hours left.

I literally have no game play yet. :-/ So my plan is to do my worst here and tonight, and then take the game to the AMAZE! Jam next week and spend another 8 hours on it. :) teaser5.png

end of the day

Ok i finaly make 1-st area and сame up with a story Here's what I got island end.png Now i'm going to sleep Good luck everyone!

Run the world

I always wanted to make my own Outrun-style-classic-arcade. This felt like the perfect chance!

This is my attempt, using faux 3D rendering (handmade!) and the same kind of quarter-grabbing gamey-physics. It's still very rough and I'm aiming at the Jam rather than the Compo, so I'm able to polish and add more zones.

The idea is that you go from Lisbon (where I live) to Rio de Janeiro (where I was born) passing thru all places I've visited in the past. And you can do it with one single gas tank - after, it's A Small World!

I'm using SDL 1.2 and Clang. Will probably use SDLimage, SDLgfx and SDL_mixer. My goal is also to provide a Emscripten build.

Finished developing the game

But now the most challenging technical question is, how to team up and publish our game to the new website ;-)

Big Map File

It's huge. xD

Finished!

I wrote my game (game logic, graphics, sound), Smallworld, in 6 hours over the weekend (3 x 2 hour stints). It's an homage to 8-bit side-scrolling games of the 1980s. It's the first time I've written a game, and the first time I've used the Phaser framework, which is a superb framework. For the graphics I've used a combination of Piskel and GIMP, and for the sound beatbox.co

you probably could make the compo deadline but want to just take it easy and just enter the jam...
