Concept fleshed out, time to sleep!

It's way later than I expected (2:30 AM, local time), but it will payoff...

I was able to finally flesh out my original idea into something I know how to implement! The elevator pitch would go something like this:

Artist travels the world seeking inspiration and find unexpected links with admired people. It's a small world, after all.

It will play out as a side-scroller adventure. The player has to explore the world looking for interesting people and artifacts. Eventually, they will also come across relevant buildings (e.g., school they went to) or books.

Any relevant thing the player interacts with will be added to their Adventure Log. As stuff is added to the log, links between them are created. The objective is to connect interesting art to their creator and then connect to creator to the player (e.g., a cool statue made by a person that lives close to the player, or a interesting painting made by someone who attended the same school as the player).

When the player find everything, go back to their house or leave the game, they will be awarded a score and a flavor text about how small the world is.

Now, to get some sleep so I can scope this into something doable...

I am in again!

Aaaand again! My least favourite theme won! 😀 But i think after some coffee with milk i will soon figure something!

But now something about me!

My tools!

  • Game Maker Studio 2
  • BFXR and freesfx.com for SFX
  • Music Maker Jam and/or freemusicarchive.org for music
  • Pyxel edit and paint.net (maybe little bit of gimp or blender. Depends on style) for graphic.

Off to the (snail) races!

After a slow start, I've got something * *slimy ** cooking:

Idea

With the theme being "A Small World" I immediately thought of that famous quote from Neil Armstrong,

"It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small."

My idea is to do a lunar lander type game, where you land on the surface of the moon then get out, plant the flag, and then look up at the Earth and stick your thumb over it.

Productivity is questionable

Alright, so the first day is wrapping up for me. So far, I've gone and prototyped several game ideas, and none seem to really hit the mark. I'm just going to choose one and go with it. So far all I've made is an inventory system and a couple of animations. Hopefully I'll find a bit of motivation over the next couple of days.

I'm in!

I'm in (for the 2nd time)!

I'm In

i'm afraid I am too self-destructive to resist the compo

I'm in!

(This post used to say that I was using the old site but that won't work at all so this one it is!)

I'll be using: •Game Maker Studio 1 •Sfxr/Bfxr •Some procedural music tools

I've begun my first jam

Got something started here https://twitter.com/mccolgst/status/855634984677163009

godzilla-like megabeast was the first thing that popped into my mind when I thought about 'small world'.

This is my first game jam and I'm still quite new at making games so it will be an interesting experience

Time for sleep, more jamming in the morning

EDIT: wanted to include that I'm using PICO8 for my game

Let's get this party started!

Waking up at 7am on a Saturday morning has never felt better! Now we're preparing ourselves with some coffee before starting the stream and game making. Yesterday we spent all night preparing the stream and coming up with some simple ideas for the themes in the final voting. We came up with some great ideas, but sadly not for this theme... But don't get me wrong it's a great theme. We'll see how this one will turn out! Let the fun part begin! (I'll be back)

STREAM INFO

-The stream will be in Swedish.

-Nothing special just us playing around with the game.

-Stream: https://www.twitch.tv/liquidbraindev

DEVELOPMENT INFO

-Unity as an engine.

-Paint.net + Photoshop used for graphics.

-Audacity + FL studios used for sound effects and music.

Helloweee :D

First time at LudumDare. So much excited.

I'm in

First time, no idea what I'm building yet.

I'm in

This will be my 8th time participating in the main event and this time I've got so many potentially good ideas that I want to develop into a game! I like the theme and hopefully there wont be too many obstacles in the way for the main idea I have in mind.

As usual I will be using Unity3D with Blender.

Good luck ludumdarlings!

We are in

Hopefully this time we have more time to work on the game and we'll get something playable out of this.

Things we'll mostly use:
  • Unity
  • Paint.net and GIMP2 for textures and planning
  • Blender
  • sfxr for sound, maybe Audacity too
  • Our brains (maybe)

RabbitTortoise and Tunes9

I'll do a proper I'm in post (featuring the same terrible pun!) once the image-uploading is working.

:cooking: :egg: :bacon: :cheese: :forkknifeplate: :cherries: :tea:

Also after taking a nice walk, percolating this neat idea I had for the game right after I blearily checked the theme (3:00 WEDT here) all throughout my brain.

Success everyone! :-D

P.S. Amusing; there is an emoji for sake, but not for yoghurt ('kwark' would be too much to ask for, I know). Oh no, my eurocentric sensibilities! Quick, I'll have some cheese that has fungus in it on purpose to calm down ;-)

We're In.

As before, Shirakumo is joining in for the Jam again.

Im in

oh the late start

I'm in!

I'll try and think of something, and will be streaming over at https://twitch.tv/binaryspark :D

Engine will be Unity.
