LD 40 December 1–4, 2017

I am IN BABY

So I managed to luck out in that this weekend is the only free weekend I have in December so I should be able to participate.

Tools:

Game Engine/Language: I'll use either Java with LibGDX for 2D or Unity for 3D.

Graphics: Photoshop, Piskel (if 2D), Blender (if 3D).

Audio: Ableton Live 9.

Goals:

Last Ludum Dare I did what I'd consider alright for my first jam but it wasn't the greatest. Audio was definitely my strongest point (ended up top 100 in audio) so I don't feel I have to worry too much about that. I definitely feel that I should focus this Ludum Dare more on graphics and fun because those were the one's my previous game did terribly in. This time I definitely want to have better graphics than the garbage pixel art I had last time and my game wasn't all that fun so I want a more fun game this time.

IM IN!!

A lot of lessons learned in the last jam! I am in this time too!

Tools - Unity, Blender, Gimp

Preparing for the Worst...

Welp. It's coming up. Ludum Dare 40... I'm preparing for the worst. I'll be doing this LD with @Mathstr0fficial, and hopefully we don't epically fail... At least, not today.

We're in!

This will be our first LD jam, hopin' for the best!

Terrified and excited at the same time

This is gonna be my first Ludum Dare, and also my first 48 hour game jam. I can't wait for the caffeine and despair overdose!

First time and I'm already moved.

Been pretty excited to finally participate in a game jam. I was going through all the hurdles of figuring out the time it'd be starting then I saw the little adjustment for my timezone and a singe manly tear ran down my cheek.

I'm IN!

Will usa the same tools I always did probably. And wont be able to use half of the jam time. I wonder what will happen. Good luck to everyone!

Waiting for LDJam

I already prepared everything to have a day off this Monday at work to enjoy 72hs of Ludum Dare :D

"I'm in" as they say.

Are we supposed to put "I'm in" or is that just something people do? ;) This is my first Ludem Dare! Good luck everyone :D I wish you good sleeps.

Using: Unity Musescore Gimp Blender

I'm in

Hi there,

I'm in for my fifth Ludum Dare. This time with a change of tools. Instead of Java and libGDX we're going to try Unity and C#. Let us see what happens, maybe even 3D :D

Almost forgot...I'm in!

Hey,

I almost forgot to write the "obligatory" Imin post. So this will be my Nth LudumDare, lost count as I only have one entry so far but took part in many LDs. As always, going in solo for all the compo glory! :P Last time I successfully finished a game and submitted it! I was so proud. Hopefully I'll be able to come up with something to this LD as well.

On the last LD I was focusing on creating assets quickly. I think I successfully tackled that challenge with the 3 totally different, decently populated levels that I created for that game. This time I want to focus on game feel and those first 5 minutes that everyone will play. Also have to make sure that the game controls and the goal are clear, understandable and don't require a wall of text as tutorial.

Stuff I'll use: - Engine - Unity - Art - Blender, paint.Net (I know, I always say I should learn something better), Inkscape if needed, Pyxel Edit(?) - Sound/Music - My mouth, random objects, Audacity, Ableton Live 9

There is a very-very slim chance that I'll be using Pico8 for everything instead but we'll see how I feel about the theme :)

One more thing. I plan to stream the majority of the process over at http://twitch.tv/benjoe72 so drop in and say hi if you get a chance. (Or if you are streaming too!)

Good luck, not hating the theme to the veterans and have fun on your first LD for the newcomers :)

GLHF all <3

another question

ok so I'm pretty new to game development and thus chose unity as my game engine of choice but when I tried to import pixel art into my game it came out upscaled and blurry. so does anyone have a solution to this problem if so I would like to know

I'm In

This is going to be my third Ludum Dare

I am going to use Unity and C#, with Paint.net as my 2d art program, and Blender for 3d art.

Seems as though I may be in

Hello everyone! This will be my first LD, but I've got a few jams under my belt. I'll be using Unity, Modo (possibly), Photoshop, Illustrator, FL Studio, LMMV, and whatever other odds and ends I end up needing. I still haven't decided whether to do the jam or the compo... nervous either way.

I'm In

Despite the wiser advice of my school peers I am going to participate in the jam again. Have finals the next week but this quarter has been lacking in the creation category so hoping that the unused juices will allow me to excel in the jam.

As usual the programs will be: Unity, C#, Photoshop, Audacity, and all of the other random programs I have installed on my computer.

HOW DID WE LET THIS HAPPEN

# WE CANNOT LET THREE COLORS WIN, HOW DID WE LET THIS INTO THE FINAL ROUND

:(

Second time round

My first entry was mostly an achievment of getting something done. This time around, I hope to bring something more enjoyable (and hopefully not miss so much of the voting). So here goes :)

Tech used:

Python, Kivy

Also planning to stream on https://www.twitch.tv/argensis

First Time

First time ever making game, first time learning c#, first ludum dare and more to attend

Goals of Ludum Dare 40

For Ludum Dare 40 we introduced A LOT of new features, though the focus has been primarily on the backend. The User Experience is still rough in places, but we'll continue to make improvements over the next few days.

Things to keep an eye out for:

  • Notifications
  • Anonymous Comments (you must opt-in to them, off by default)
  • Half-star Ratings
  • Charts and Graphs
  • Performance Improvements (*cough* website SHOULDN'T die at the end again... the culprit was found)

And much more.

A HUGE shout-out to @sgstair, @local-minimum, @zwrawr, and @noojuno for their help on the code.

There are plenty of bugs, and things that just aren't done. If something seems odd, report it:

https://github.com/ludumdare/ludumdare/issues

I'll be doing a bit of maintenance later tonight (roughly 3 AM ET/12 AM PT), bumping up our machines to more-cores for the weekend. There shouldn't be more than a few minutes of downtime

Keynote, hosted by Alex Rose @alexrose

Keynoting Ludum Dare 40 is Alex Rose, creator of Super Rude Bear Resurrection, a game that started as a Ludum Dare 28 game, that eventually made its way to Steam and PlayStation 4. He's also a member of the 5-year-club (taking part in every LD since Ludum Dare 25)!

On to the keynote!

... I get the impression he doesn't like how I pronounce "Ludum Dare".

That's it for now. Go vote! It's time again for Ludum Dare!

I'm in. :D

This time I will go back to the roots and create a 3D game. "I think I'm good prepared" he said ... and then his time is running out again too fast. Guys are you prepared? :)
