Thank you to everyone who played and rated Permanence!
This was my 8th Ludum Dare, and when I started back in 33, I never imagined that I would make it this far. My only goal was to eventually get in the top 100. When my previous game, HackOS, got 4th, I honestly thought that was the best I'd ever do. Now this really is probably the best I'll ever do, but I look forward to making more games in the future and seeing all the brilliant games made by the community. I want to thank everyone for making this event fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again in Ludum Dare 41.

I only had about 12 hours to put into LD40. I made my focus something I could do quickly and tried to focus on finding that 'fun factor.' I seem to have found it (at least compared to my prior games).
Looking forward to to next LD!

In general, I am very happy. Every year, everything is better and better.

The ratings we got:

Seems like people really liked our art!
We had expected more on theme, but well... better luck next time! Gotta hit that home run! (next time for sure!)

Many thanks to everybody who played and rated Rattendorf over the last few weeks, and left us such kind words and valuable feedback. Our team's programmer (@NoAim91) has been hard at work adding new features to the game, so keep an eye on the itch.io page or our twitters (@randomhuman and @No_Aim91) for updates in the new year. Also check out our composer, oniwaka, on soundcloud if you want to keep track of what he's working on.
Congratulations of course to the winners and placers and everybody who took part, and many thanks to @pov, it has been a great experience as always and I'm already looking forward to Ludum Dare 41!

This is the first time I've done a Compo in LD, mainly due to the simplistic requirements and output of BASIC itself. I just had to copy-paste the string display and clear screen commands as I wrote the story. All in all, I spent only around 8 hours completing this. So how does Excessive stack up?

Judging from the scores, rankings, and the comments left at the game page, it seems not everyone embraced my concept of a kinetic novel programmed in an archaic language and meant for retro systems. But that's OK. It's a fun proof of concept that I can hopefully implement in a future game that will have this style of presentation.
Well then, belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Well, I was really hoping for top 10 in humor. In the end, this got a lower humor score than my last entry, Globe Guzzler! I suspect that people didn't play the game long enough for it to get truly zany and hilarious. Also, purposefully creating a broken and unpolished game is not the best way to get unilaterally high scores. :-)
Thanks everyone for playing!
This was my first game jam and I feel like I almost died but I guess that's part of the fun. Definitely won't be my last. :)

Thanks to everyone who played!
Very pleased that Permanence got 1st overall, that would've been my pick. <3
Follow me on https://twitter.com/mytoboggan if you like, my first commercial release is coming out January 19th (a much warmer puzzle game than this one) and you can get updates about it there.
Lastly, I'll push an update for One Matter sometime in the new year with more polish and improved controls, so keep an eye out for that too! xo C
uhm guys.....am i the last?

i, actually, can't play much, work is killing me slowly....i got angry to myself these past days,
sorry that my "rabbit" is very bad shape
(~~inner self: but hey, look that audio, and you can create game in just 2 days~~)
i need to be better next time, also this game is created within 8 hours so i wasn't surprised with this rank, at least average not below 1
next time i'll make more than this, it's no good to angry to yourself for being the last, what i need is study more and experience, also experimenting more......i need drawing and 3d modeling course
My compo and jam entry both performed really well and I would like to thank everybody that played and rated my games! And congratulations to @pedro-medeiros on https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/to-the-depths for taking the #1 spot in graphics for the compo!
Have a nice evening everybody :D
The contest has ended - Ludum Dare 40 was a fun one and it was our best attempt so far. We're all quite happy with our scores.
We kept our game idea simple and self explanatory, which has been our challenge in the past. Our goal was to perform better than last time and we have achieved that. We'll see everyone for LD41 in a few months!

Beyond THAT - We also have a little contest of our own so if the following winners would please comment on this post with the best way to contact them, we'll get the prizes doled out:

@voxel, @manbeardgames, @johnsarna - you three took the scoreboard's top 3 positions! When we uploaded this game I expected the high score to be in the neighborhood of 15,000 or so, and my personal best is around 33,000. You guys put me to shame at my own game.
Nice work!
Thanks everyone for the votes and most of all the feedback!
10th place is my highest overall finish ever.
It's been a wild ride:

But unlike those guys, we made it.
To celebrate I've uploaded a Web build with some post-compo changes, linked from the Dangle Copter page.
Hope everyone had fun this LD, and that we'll see each other again next time. It's always amazing to see what people come up with.
Not every game is rated. So if you're like me, and you really want to see how "eh" your game is, look no further. Here's how many games ACTUALLY got ratings in each category.
Compo: - Overall: 677 - fun: 677 - Innovation: 677 - theme: 660 - graphics: 677 - audio: 507 - humor: 567 - mood: 628
@jason-kennedy got these numbers by "scrapping the API." He posted them here. Unfortunately, I have no idea what that means, or how to do that. But I do know how to scroll through the results while getting hype to some 21 Savage.
Jam: - Overall: 1158 - fun: 1158 - Innovation: 1158 - theme: 1157 - graphics: 1065 - audio: 714 - humor: 970 - mood: 1080
(I got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 thousand games to scroll through...)

Burrowed Time came SECOND in the Compo Event! Wowza! There's a good chance I'll expand on this game at some point, even with something like local multiplayer - we'll see!
Thanks again for the love <3 This was a lot of fun, and it was good to get back into it - since I've been doing Ludum Dare since... heck, 2012? Something like that!
First, we want to thank everyone for the awesome feedback, and boosts of motivation when we saw that we actually got 14th in Overall, as well as 4 other categories in top 100!
That's amazing, and we got so excited that we slapped a trailer together, as well as a sneak peak of what's to come for the new version!
https://youtu.be/b1ehK4OXAmo
We also went ahead and created an itch.io page for the newer updates, so be sure to check it out to stay updated!

Thanks a ton to everyone who checked out my game in the last month, it really means a lot to me. Ever since I entered the sphere of AdultLand™ almost two years ago, I've been in a creative rut---not just gamedev, but nearly anything I've tried to personally pursue. Heck, even Junk at its core is a reflection on the last two years of my life. LD40 was pretty much the first personal project I've completed in the last two years, so I'm really happy that others were able to get something out of it. Hopefully I can continue to ride on this wave of energy and make cooler things soon.
Good luck to everyone and your future endeavors! And as always,
