Didn't finish sadly

I sucked at time management was mostly it. I wasn't very used to a short amount of time to do anything. Probably not the best excuse but I sort of gave up cause of it. I'll may try to do better next time around, but for now I might as well see what other people made :)

Hey there's a site bug

Paging @pov - There's a bug with the game list!

If you try to view the list of unfinished games at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/games/smart/unfinished , the site will instead serve you a game page titled "unfinished". This means you can't view the unfinished game list.

I opened an issue on Github about this.

The Pink Slip

Hey everybody.

I've updated my game with some hot fixes for some issues, couldn't fix them all yet. I've added instructions to the game to make it slightly more easier to play. I've also added a WebGL version of the game for those that don't have Windows. The original version without updates is still available at itch.io along with the updated version. If you haven't played the game yet, check it out here:

Unity/Chrome WebGL controller issue?

I was playing Book of Crab earlier today, and noticed a bug where, in the WebGL build, button presses were being registered as new presses every frame - though they worked fine in the Windows build.

I just learned that my game has the same bug, and again, only in the WebGL version. I coulda sworn it worked a few days ago... What's more, this is showing up in my LD42 game, when I know for certain I didn't have that bug in August.

Anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I'm using Chrome and Win10 - is it a known issue in an update to either of those?

EDIT: Just checked with other controllers, and in Edge and Firefox. Edge doesn't seem to do controller support at all, and Firefox is fine. Looks like we got a Chrome issue on our hands!

What are you most proud of about your game?

Let's get braggy!

Game Jams can always seem like an uphill battle, but sometimes there are the small victories that motivate us to push past the setbacks, and finally complete something despite seemingly insurmountable odds.

One such small victory for our game Serial Dater was our random character generator. Given the fact that our game revolved around the concept of speed-dating, and seeing as many suitors as possible, it was crucial for us to be able to provide a sense of variety between all of the characters. After all, if the same 5 models kept showing up, things would have gotten boring pretty fast. One important way that a game is able to pique someone's interest is through the element of surprise...

...And how could you NOT be surprised when being greeted by a face like this?

Instead of making a bunch of unique character models, we drew up a handful of body features, organized them into folders, and randomly pulled from them every time we wanted to generate a new character. When all was said and done, this was all the code we needed to get it to work:

characterCreator.png

This tiny little script allowed us to create 8.4 MILLION UNIQUE CHARACTER MODELS!

And while actually drawing the assets took a pretty significant amount of time, coding it up took no more than an hour. We're pretty proud of the end result, because it pretty much means that whenever you see a date for the first time, that's likely the ONLY time anyone's EVER seen that specific character combination! Once you say DATE or PASS, that character model is gone forever...Pretty neat!

If you'd like to see the extent to which we get loony with our character creator, you can check out Serial Dater on our game page here! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/serial-dater

How about you guys? Is there anything in particular in your games that you're super proud of, or took a lot of work that might go unnoticed?

A wise man once said: "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."

So use this opportunity to brag about something specific that you worked really hard on! :)

Just delete them

You delete files and the game assets disappear!

Play and Rate Games

Hey folks, does anyone know how the games that appear in the Play & Rate section are chosen?

I continually see the same games, but ours hasn't appeared once. I thought it was to do with the karma value, but I've seen games up there that have a karma value of 0.

Can you orchestrate your own murder? 💀

ldemkollasje/em43-litn.png

As you can see the graphics took a bit of a hit this time compared to many of the previous entries, but for my LD43 game I wanted to cram in as much narrative and content as possible, so sacrifices had to be made! 😎

A message from The Computer

ac_ss001.gif

Greetings Citizens!

As you all know your friend The Computer is infallible, and can never be compromised. On an unrelated note, it appears a communist mutant traitor has accessed my systems in [REDACTED] sector and introduced a bug into my code, which of course is impossible. A team of troubleshooters have liquified the traitor and the High-Programmer has restored my code it full working order, which didn't need to be done as my code is incorruptible. Now everyone can again enjoy my programming as it was meant to be.
