Dungeon Drifter - Bullet Hell Steering RPG

Hey Ho,

Have you guys ever wanted to steer a minecart in a cavern while being bombarded by arrows, magic and bodies? Well then this might be a game for you.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/dungeon-drifter

I made this game during the LD Compo time and would like to share it with all of you! Feedback is highly appreciated. Love you guys and see you again in August!

Let's climb up the "Danger" list!

I had a hard time last week and miss a lot of voting time. ~~I will play and feedback games of at least the first 20 commentators under my game.~~ * Big thank you, ludumers! I got all reviews that I needed. *

If you have a low amount of rates, it will be very usefull because "Smart" sorting is not default now and there is not another stable possibility to get 20 rates in a time.
Let's help each other, guys!

Download Soundtrack from Timelapse

While the play rating goes on (and probably for a considerable time after that) you can download the soundtrack from my timelapse video as MP3 files here: https://goo.gl/qTTtHC (61.7MB - free download)

The music is retro/chip inspired but with a modern vibe. I am greatly influenced by music from the C64, Amiga and Demo Scene eras which is a period I dream back to and probably glorify more than I should :)

The package contains 9 tracks with a total duration of 27 minutes and 31 seconds:

  • Imphenzia - Chip Up.mp3 (3:12 - not yet officially released)
  • Imphenzia - First One.mp3 (3:25)
  • Imphenzia - Golf N Grenades.mp3 (3:36 - featured in my LD41 game, made during the 48h)
  • Imphenzia - Lift Me Up Platformer.mp3 (2:03)
  • Imphenzia - Nostalgia.mp3 (4:29)
  • Imphenzia - Once Upon a Platform.mp3 (2:18)
  • Imphenzia - Past Times.mp3 (1:53)
  • Imphenzia - Pixels.mp3 (4:21 - not yet officially released)
  • Imphenzia - Secret Game 2.mp3 (2:13 - not yet officially released)

If you enjoy the music, I have 10 hours of music available on my web site as well (imphenzia.com)

Here is the timelapse of my LD41 entry which also features the music: https://youtu.be/zOSlkF98v8I

Danger

After rating a few games right after the event ended, I only got time to rate again today. All seemed well as I slowly climbed up the board until the default sorting switched to DANGER and basically kicked me off.

If you want to help me get closer to the danger zone, you can play my Match-3/Tower Defense game here. I'll keep rating :)

Drive Threw

Drive Threw still needs reviews! Make sure you don't drive off the road while cooking those burgers!

Check your audio in HTML5 games

Hey, if you have published an HTML5 version of your game it might be worth checking to make sure the audio still plays. Google released a new version of Chrome yesterday that has broken any game that launches when it loads (including mine, we're still fixing it.)

According to this article, it seems that if you include a button on the page that launches your game, rather than it playing automatically, it should work fine.

Fave Games of Ludum Dare 41: Part 8 of ???

OJbtIw.jpg

So if you've been following my reviews you might have picked up on the fact that I have a very special place in my heart of hearts for chill as hell gaming experiences. Bloom is one of those games. Its a hybrid game mixing elements from Civilization, a platonic dating sim, with a kind of inherited-trait twist and a certain Catan-esque look. I love it. You lead your tribe in forging friendships and alliances with the other tribes, sharing resources and breeding settlers to have physical features that appeal to as many of the other tribes as possible. And you just... get along. This game was calm and engaging and I'm always after relaxing experiences like it! Funny story: when I was a wee kid my Dad used to play Civilization 3 and go absolutely ballistic when the game didn't go as expected (my old man is so bad at all games its so sad) and it sort of ingrained an instinctive, immediate dislike of any game even remotely resembling it. For Bloom's ability to placate years of childhood trauma and deliver a great experience, it gets a big, therapist-approved A+.

Ludum Dare 41 games made here at Tech Valley Game Space

Hello, jammers! As many of you already know, we had a real-world meeting here at Tech Valley Game Space in Troy, NY, USA, and we wanted to share what was created in the area. We're a bit late on listing these games out, but if you happen to have the time, feel free to browse through them and let the respective creators know what you think!

On a side-note, I personally will getting serious on rating games tomorrow. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! I'll prioritize on those who commented and rated my game first.

What do get when you blend obstacle-avoiding action with text-based dating?

The answer is Undertale. This game is completely different.

SmackTalk! Live Teaches Typing!

smackTalkLive.png

Type the text shown for each part of the promo. Take as much time as you need and then press the “Talk Smack!” button. For each segment of the promo, half-credit is given for capitalization mistakes, and no credit is given if there are any other mistakes. If you get enough credit, more than half of the credits possible, after finishing the promo, you will get a good ending for the promo, and otherwise you will get worse endings. Finish all 4 promos to go to the credits and complete the game!

SmackPaint! Combat Painting with Ross Bob

Paintsmack! Combat painting with Ross Bob. NOW WITH CREATIVE MODE!

Grab your paint and tap “A” to do happy little brushes against the canvas. Do your best to finish the painting before all the happy little critters steal away with your paint or the time runs out. Take a picture of your masterpiece afterwards and share it with the world!

Fantasy Fighter

This game is a top-down, turn-based, fighter. The game as an experiment and opportunity to learn C++ and the SFML library. Unfortunately, the best fighter elements weren’t added, but the mechanics are written down in the README.md.

Salty Scuttle

saltyScuttle.gif

Being the Ludum Dare after Valentine’s Day, it seemed like the perfect time to work on a 2 player cooperative game for gamers to enjoy with their significant others. But, given the theme, what genre could we combine with cooperative play to make a truly romantic experience that would bring couples together the world over? The answer was clear: QWOP. In Salty Scuttle, each player controls one leg of a crab who is trying to migrate to their new home for the new season. Try to help them go as far as possible without flipping them over onto their back!

Frogs vs. Cats: Post-Compo update, plus my favorite other text-adventure mashups

Hey all! Yet another post-compo update post. I started the compo about 16 hours late, so there were a lot of gaps, in the compo game, but I got far enough (and had enough fun!) that I wanted to keep improving. If you haven't tried the compo version and want to rate it, make sure to check out and rate the original version first. Frogs vs. Cats is a text-adventure platformer that is backwards from many of the other delightful text-adventure mashups I've seen (see below for more on that!), in that you control the frog around the platform in order to drive the text-adventure, which is spelled out in the sky above you, rather than controlling the game via text. Here's a little preview - the hopping gives it a bit of an original Prince of Persia feel, I think:

frogsvscats_35.gif

Once you've rated the compo version (or decided not to rate it!), if you want to play something at least a little more polished, I've piled up enough little improvements (54 commits worth!) to post an update, I think. I've actually locked the doors, refined the controls, added a title screen with directions, fleshed out the levels, added more sounds, refined the text dialog and interactions, and of course squashed a few bugs. Check it out over on the PICO-8 BBS.

Many thanks to the commenters who have left much helpful feedback in the comments so far, especially @antti-haavikko for the detailed run-down that led directly to several of the improvements! Sidenote, I highly recommend their game Binary Blocks, it's incredibly polished and a lot of fun.

And on that note, a shout-out to a couple other text-adventure based games I've seen and loved: Birdy is a delightful little puzzle-platformer with the text elements well-integrated into the game: the more advanced moves are longer and harder to type, and a key element of the challenge is typing them out in time - it's challenging, adorable, and a lot of fun.

AeroWrit is a very different take - a text-adventure flight simulator! It's very well done, the tutorial is top-notch and guides you through the commands very well, and the game itself is a fun little find-the-rings game, that makes very good use of the text-adventure component in a way that works really well and makes it a lot of fun.

If you have other text-adventure mashups, post them below - I'd love to try them out! And keep an eye out for a future post, I'm gonna get back to my game and actually make the "vs" in the title mean something

I know that i'm too late but... WEB VERSION IS HERE

The file size of my game is 100 mb, so finally having a web version means more people can play my game.

Also I just created an itch.io because web versions in gamejolt is not that good.
