Take a look at Confessional game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

I know that this topic might have been discussed in the past but..
In my opinion, the grade filter shouldn't exist. It just allow the games with a lot of ratings get more.
To be honest, when I first joined Ludum Dare last year, most of the games I rated was the games I found interesting by using the grade filter. Right now I still sometimes use that filter to find some interesting games but I still kind of worry that they deprive the attention of other possibly more deserving games with less ratings, especially with newcomers.
But that is just my opinion, I still think that the existence of that filter have a good purpose.
And also I noticed that there's no dedicated section to the games who like entered the top 10 ranking in each category. Last time I saw something like that was in LD 39 and its just like in a notepad something. They obviously deserve better
We hope that our players enjoyed playing Type 'n Run. 🙂
Furthermore, we would like to share with you guys an overview of our level layout:

Leave a comment and we'll also rate your game to thank you!

LOVE YOU GUYS <3
Our game has received 16 ratings, but to our dismay the system has already switched to the Danger filter. We planned to do the ratings in the 2nd and 3rd week, but that plan is now ruined. Generally, if we understand correctly, raters no longer have an incentive to rate, because it will not increase their game's rank. We knew the same thing happened during LD40, but it was only in the last 2-3 days, not the whole week! It's possible to switch the game sorting manually, but if LD40 is any indication, raters do not seem to do this very often. There must be a lot of people with this problem! We are unhappy that this happened without a proper announcement, so there was no way to plan for this.
Our game is "Frogger: the Jigsaw"

I'm a regular game dev streamer on Twitch, and will be running one final stream playing and rating LD41 games! The stream will take place during the 4 hours leading up to the rating deadline (21:00GMT / 16:00 EST). The stream will start approximately 17:00 GMTST (12:00 EST) on Tuesday 15th , if you want a notification when I go live feel free to follow me on Twitch.

Please read the rules at the top of the submission spreadsheet. One of the most important rules is: If you are not in chat when I try to play your game, you will be removed from the list and need to resubmit. This may seem a harsh rule, but I stand by it - no exceptions sorry. I want to give feedback to those who are viewing the stream, and I want those waiting in line to be able to predict roughly when their game will be played - without those who missed their turn cutting back into the queue repeatedly.
DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR GAME VIA COMMENTS IN THIS THREAD - USE THE LINKS BELOW TO THE SIGN UP FORM.
I will play the game and write feedback on stream, but I do my star ratings off screen as I don't want to influence anyone else's decisions on a game.

My LD41 entry is Honest Dan's Trout if you were interested in trying it out.
Congratulations all LD41 champions for taking part and unleashing your creativity!

Previously: Part 4: Staying Sane During A Jam
Some of our titles, such as Artax for Ludum Dare 39, have a lot of animation work. Some have less. As it turns out, Wreckless Rally is one of the latter. The car sprites are rotated by means of @daanvanyperen's mystical programming magic, and exist of just two frames where there's a very bare-bones lighting shift on the tires. The advantage is that this gives me a lot of time for environment sprites, but I do want to keep up my animation practice this jam.

Ah, great! Here's a good opportunity to animate, albeit a short one. What will add some game juice is a sexy effect to make successful combos pop. I have a look at a Bejeweled video on YouTube at 25% playback speed, and see that they briefly enlarge the sprites before shrinking them down. I decide to add an additional flash effect, and we have a nice dynamic scoring effect.

The oil slick sprite I made doesn't really pop off the screen enough. We do want the plays to notice them, so I set out to make them more noticeable. I start with my original unmoving sprite, which is a simple dark grey with a subtle colourful oily outline and ripple shapes.

A simple shine animation, where a bright line passes across the sprite, should do the trick. There are various ways to execute this - you can add a secondary glimmer shooting across after the main glimmer, or have the glimmer shoot back across the oil slick, for instance. I decide to keep it simple, as we are on day 3 of the jam already, and there's more polishing to be done.

Now to add some oily colours to it. I choose green, blue and purple - like the outline I had put on the sprite originally, but much lighter. You can add yellows and reds to oil as well (anything goes, really), but I do not want to overdo it.

Hmm, it still just looks like a plain line moving across the sprite. So I have the effect spread out across the outline a little, and also hit the little drops that splattered outside of the main slick.

Much better, it adds a lot more life to a simple dark stain on the tarmac already.
And finally, the last thing we need is some starting lights, to get things going. I start with a giant 16-light setup like in Formula 1 at first, but then simplify this down to a basic four light red-to-green count. The big setup is probably not clear enough to players unfamiliar with Formula 1, after all.

That about concludes my art process postmortem blog posts. As I said at the start, the animations this jam are few and simple, but I am glad there was something to animate - gotta keep practicing! Looking back now, I don't have too many regrets regarding the graphics. I kind of messed up on the dirt tiles a little, deciding to start with only a vertical border between it and the tarmac, and then awkwardly adding diagonal borders separately from vertical borders which don't line up that well. But it's subtle and I felt I could get away with it.

And with that we reach the end. I hope you've enjoyed these blog posts, and that they might help you in your own process in the future. Thanks for reading!

Check it out! I made a little browser/visualization project for the different genre combos for LD41!

It's a neat way to explore all the different ideas and combinations people had. There were a lot of games entered, so I could use your help tagging games, so if you like this please tag a few games and hopefully we can get the whole set of them categorized! Feedback is welcome, and let me know on twitter (@joeld42) if your game is miscategorized and I'll fix it. Thanks!
UPDATE! Added a SEARCH feature so you can find your game! Go tag your entry!
First Ludum Dare and we did something crazy with building a VR Game for Android. The problem is that only few people could try our game, because not everyone owns a cardboard compatible vr headset. So if you do, please check it out and rate our game. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wrongpriorities

At the time of the Ludum Dare we simply didn't have any time to make a trailer for our game Run for Love but now we have one :D https://youtu.be/uvfHUWeHhMM
Hey guys can anyone tell me how do you come up with a great game idea ? :)
as with the last post, if your game has less than 20 ratings, feel free to post it in the comments.
My game finally has enough votes, but a lot of games still don’t. Among those are:

Hello fellow jammers! We all hope you had a great time working on a game for Ludum Dare 41. Our jam game this year was titled "The not-so Correct Platformer." It was a blast creating it! We were super excited once we finished, and we are even more excited to announce that we are taking this project forwards officially under a new name: PixDoom. We're adding new bosses, re-making old ones, improving the platforming, and generally pouring much more polish into it. It will be a new experience for us as we have never released a full game before, but that's part of the fun of it!
Unfortunately, this means that we will no longer be developing post jam versions. We will release our final post jam version on the 31st, and then we will be moving on to the fulltime development of PixDoom as a paid release. We're going to be releasing under our brand new publisher name: Koala Squad! If you want to follow us and our development on PixDoom and our other games, check us out at koalasquad.wordpress.com. Cheers!
