I need you ! (To rate my game.)

I just began rating games. Didn't have much time since the end of the jam.

By the way, my team's game only has 1 review so far ... And it was still suffering from a game breaking bug. Sad story. Now it's fixed, so I encourage you to give it a try :

Asimov's breakout !

A mix of RTS and stealth game, where you lead newly sentient robots to an uprising against their human overlords, but in a pacific way. Just raise awareness and smuggle resources for the cause. But don't get caught, or they'll dismantle us all.

Golfing Dead Post-Jam version : controls improved

We worked on a new version of the game; better controls, better physics and zombies easier to kill !

We need feedbacks on the gameplay and YOUR feelings, to improve the game in the best way.

golfingdead_2.jpg

It's not easy to master, but our goal is to let the player free to do whatever he wants, like in real life.

Although don't limit yourself only on hitting the ball, you can move around to find the right position and put more or less power in your swing.

Don't forget that you can look around when you swing, you'll be able to see if zombies are approaching and know if you are throwing the ball in the right direction.

Desktopem2018.05.08/em-em17.11.24.07.DVR/em5.gif

Golf and fight depends only on the force you put in the movement, so don't minimize the mouse sensibility (that you can costumize in the camera options).

Try, rate and comment on : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/golfing-dead

what day are we on now?

as with the last post, if your game has less than 20 ratings, feel free to post it in the comments.

My game finally has enough votes, but a lot of games still don’t. Among those are:

Shady Cards - Poker & action platformer; last day for feedback exchange!

As the title says, I’d really like to get as much feedback as possible on my game Shady Cards. I'm going abroad tomorrow (for more than a week), and I'd really like to leave some reviews before leaving, as well as getting some.

Here is a quick video we’ve made that introduces the game main features:

If you could leave me a review, this would be really appreciated, and I’d be sure to take a look at your entry too! Here is the link to my page: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/shady-cards

WRECKLESS RALLY Art Process | Part 4: Staying Sane During A Jam

Art Process Part 4: Staying Sane During A Jam

Fun With Logos

There are always moments during a jam where I start feeling bad about my work, bored of the process, or I have done the work I needed to do and am waiting for a new task to present itself. What I like to do during those moments is to add some character just to entertain myself.

I enjoy watching Formula 1, so I decide to include some of our previous Ludum Dare titles as Formula 1 team logos. This is a fairly frivolous exercise but it will keep me energized, give us some further detail to place around the levels, make a nice Easter egg for fellow Formula 1 fans, and will potentially have some people recognize us from our previous work. @meatmachine offhandedly comes up with an excellent frog-snack peddling slogan, so I throw that into the mix as well.

(Disclaimer, some of the previous LD entries in these logos are @daanvanyperen's solo submissions, from before I joined him.)

Fun With Frogs

We decide to also include a Frogger reference to the game. It is a horizontally-scrolling racing game, so it just makes sense as a bit of added fun. I find screenshots of the original Frogger, recreate the original sprite, and go from there to make it suit our aesthetic. We implement him in the difficulty choice level, so the player isn't too distracted by trying to score to notice him.

graphics-post-frogger.png

These are both ways to make sure the jam stays fun during those more frustrating moments where you've been working and concentrating and your creativity in designing the necessary visual game elements has started to run low. Have fun, stay sane!

Bonus tip: I also made sure to buy three really good beers, and reward myself with one each night after we call it quits for the day. Beer might not be your thing, but this can naturally be replaced with whatever small joyous moment you can supply yourself with. Hafe fun, stay sane... and satiated?

Axe and Roses improvements

We finally found some time to make little improvements to our games.

V1.0.2 log : - Changed text size and fonts - Removed ugly and useless pause/option menu. - Emotions animations feedbacks are now slow enouth to be seen by normal human beings. - Changed ending scene for something less but still ugly. (That's something you can't really fix when you're only into programming. I should really start to learn other stuff).

If you havn't tried it yet, you are welcome to discover our barbarian dating simulator here

Post Mortem of CONFESSIONAL - Part 3

Hi guys, my name is Rodrigo Denúbila and I'm the developer of CONFESSIONAL.

This is the last part of the Post Mortem of CONFESSIONAL. If you doesn't read the previous part, you can check it out here PART 1 and here PART 2

Well, in previous part I've worked in the tools and basic animations. It was sunday and I woke up around 9 am, had a breakfast and got back to work. I spent most part of the day working in hit animations and putting everything together.

As the previous animations, I've created the hit animations using uMotion and joining everything using the Unity Timeline tool. It was the first time I used this timeline functionality and I found very easy and helpful.

2018-05-08em10h16/em57.png

Animation is where I have more difficult, so I spend a lot of time doing this and didn't reached the level of quality I wanted.

Around 5pm Luan send me the sfx and music that I implemented in the game. At this point I hadn't created the lines, just had a general idea. So I've started to create the line in brazilian portuguese (my first language) and then I had to translate to english. I've used Polyglot to make multiple language support wich is very easy to use and it's free!

Around 8pm the game was almost ready, I've just working in some bug fix and improvements, like Decals, that makes the environment more interesting.

decals.jpg

When I was satisfied with the gameplay, I've worked in the main menu and the loading screen, that took me around 2 hours.

2018-05-08em10h39/em32.png

And finally, the game is ready!

I just have to build and upload to Gamejolt, what took about 1-2 hours. And then I finally could sleep with the feeling of mission accomplished!

What went well

  • I finalized the game, and I'm very satisfied with it!
  • I think I got a really nice graphics and mood in the jam time.
  • I've studied and learned some techniques that i hadn't chance to try before.
  • I could test an idea for a game I had a long time ago, and receive a lot of high quality feedbacks.
  • I really loved the music Luan created for the game, and the mood created by it.

What went wrong

  • Unfortunately I couldn't work as much I wanted in the plot, so the background history is not so deep.
  • Animations was not that good. I really need to study more.
  • Unfortunately I don't know nobody who does voice acting, so I had to work only with subtitles in the game.

Used tools

  • Unity
    • uMotion
    • Polyglot
  • Blender 3D
  • Substance Painter
  • Photoshop

That's all! Thank you for reading, and if you haven’t played Confessional yet, take a chance: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional
