Life is a constant barrage of facts. Human biology does an amazing job of managing information, but what if we had to do it manually?
Store facts and memories in the brain. With each new experience, facts and memories assault the brain. Forget! Too many facts will give you a headache, and might crowd over important stuff. Remember! Missing critical facts can cause disasters.
What I'm imagining is a sort of short, minimalistic VN combined with frantic high-speed inventory management. As the protagonist experiences the short series of events that make up the story, the player must manage the protagonist's mind. If the player performs well, the protagonist will thrive. But a poor performance will cause the protagonist to exhibit wacky behavior and get into trouble.
Haven't decided on a story yet. To keep it in scope, I think maybe two or three levels about short but high-stress tasks would work pretty well.
My first story idea is a fireman fighting an apartment fire. Critical memories could be stuff like 'basic motor function', 'equipment', 'ladder-climbing', and maybe 'how to get back outside' grows over the course of the level. Facts which come in could be a mix of random crap like 'what I ate for breakfast' or 'what day of the week it is', and important stuff like the address of the building on fire, or 'a woman is stuck in room 202'.
