LD 39 July 28–31, 2017

I'm not sure, I guess I'M IN

It's my first experience of LudumDare. After about 6 years trying to make games I just wanted to challenge myself and give myself a chance to see what have I learned all these years. I wish everybody luck and at the last for myself.

How Do I disconnect ?

Hello, from the last jam, a friend of mine connect himself on my computer, now his account is saved and i cant go back to my account, how can I change that ?

Guess I'm in!

Let's hope this time i get to finish something, cause i'm as useless as ever.

I'm in.

...most likely. I can't clear the weekend, but that's never stopped me in the past.

This will be LD number four for me. Looking forward to playing everyone's games!

I'm in

Gonna make a game for this LD. This is my 4th or 5th time entering a LD jam.

Good luck to everyone else =D

Im definetly in!

First Ludum Dare, first game jam ever! Lets hope I can make something playable!

There and back again... with wallpaper!

Hey folks! I'm already excited for this new edition, I hope everybody have lots of fun and welcome for those who are participating for very first time!

As tradition, I was looking for the Wallpaper section, but I did not find it, so, posting the wallpaper HERE (1920x1080)

I'm in

Last 2 LD i miss, but for this time i'm in! Let's do this! :keyboard:

  • Luxe
  • Krita/Inkscape
  • Ableton/Audacity

I'll try my best

my first LD, my first game; will be using GMS and PyxelEdit and something else possibly

I'm in...

... yea!

I'm in!

Let's go :vulcan:

i'm damn in!

it's the time, i finally going to end this jam, three times that i dont submit any game, but this time i will end this shit.

i'll use:

  • Love2d, SDL or LWGL in the programming.
  • Gimp, Graphic Gale and JPixel in the art.
  • Bosca cecoil to the music.

Another Jam for AAGH Games

With this being our 10th Ludum Dare - and 3rd anniversary of the first one we entered - we're excited for another fun, creative weekend. As usual, I'll be on visuals and programming and @floata-1 will handle some of the creative design and the audio.

We'll be working with our normal tools - Unity, Blender, Photo Impact X3, Clip Studio, Audacity and Anvil Studio. We will also be live streaming our progress (and typical non-stop banter) on our Twitch channel.

Here's to another good Ludum Dare!

ld39-logo.png

Going to be a tough one.

This ludum dare, I have given myself a challenge. I am going to code entirely in C! No OOP gimmicks, no std::vectors, no classes! I want to see if I can get by without the comforts of c++.

Don't Know if this is Possible

Been coding for under a fortnight, no sound experience, never done proper pixel art before, 13 years old, and now for some reason I'm gonna try Ludum Dare. I don't expect this to turn out well.

Using MonoGame, Paint.net, and Bosca Ceoil.

Training!

So, i decided to train my pxa skills. So...

This was last LD

char_2.gif

And this is today!

character.gif

And what i need?

To be honest, i think my pxa skills are fairly good (but still too far from perfect), but i need to work on colors understanding.

And what next? I need to train music making skills :D That is last thing where i suck totally. So, wish me luck!

That's all folks!

4th ludum dare

Hello all! Im excited to be entering my 4th ludum dare compo. In the past my tools consisted of Blender/blender game engine and paint.net This time around I am trying my had at C++ with SDL and paint.net for the graphics. Also SFXR for the sounds. Im completely new to openGL and the SDL system so we shall see what happens. Good luck everyone!

The Game Jam Noob

Hi everyone. Just to mention that this is my first time ever to participate to a Game Jam. It will be a real challenge for me since I have only one month of practical game development knowledge using Unity. Well, I think it'll be hard but I need this to show to myself first what I can do.

That's all. I've finished annoying you.

I'm In!

Can't wait to join this jam! I haven't participated in a LD Jam since I was 12 so this should be fun! Good luck everyone!

  • Colin

Count me in!

Hi everyone!

I'll be joining Ludum Dare 39 and it's going to be my first. As a trial by fire of sorts.

The girlfriend was notified about it, and she's okay with it. That's kinda a relief for me, since I'll be home, but not really available for extended/meaningful interaction. I do plan to watch Formula 1 together on sunday. Just the race though. Can't idle too much...

That brings me to my schedule. Or rather, the lack of one. I'm not sure how to plan the weekend by the hour. I will for sure take my naps, but I don't know how much time should be spend on brainstorming, prototyping, art, music, polish, etc.

Does anyone have any schedules to share? Thanks in advance!

Planned tools to use: -Gamemaker Studio Standard 1.4 -Inkscape & Gimp -Milkytracker -SFXR / my voice

I'm in

Gonna use Löve and my boilerplate: https://github.com/headchant/love-boilerplate

Can't wait for another weekend of this: 0q3l9t2jqgbz.jpg

I'm in!

It will be my first Ludum Dare and probably my first game that I can call "finished". I'm excited!

LD Discord 200+ Members and Growing

If you are already in the server then disregard this :).

Yes i posted this about 2 weeks ago so I am posting again so we can really have a good LD in the discord.

Hello guys. I know IRC is the main choice and all but since LD36 we have been growing a Ludum Dare discord and I though I’d share here.

So why discord?

Its better looking, very easy to use, more thing to do/ use, and you can easily share images, files, etc without going through an external file host/ image host.

We always have fun every discord with fun challenges fun role system during LD for you to move up. and a lot of people to help you with questions and share opinions.

We have a Ludum Dare bot where you can check the time till the next LD so you wont miss it! and a snail racing bot that is near and dear to me its my baby and super fun.

We also always start the Google DOC for sharing ideas that eventually makes it way to everyone but the discord sees it first as well as a section in the server to share ideas and showcase your work.

I hope you will come by and join us for this Ludum Dare and more to come. Here is a link to the discord server. https://discord.gg/ucGcvKK

(If you don’t have a discord account make sure you make one!)

First time daring to Ludum Dare!

Will people please stop proposing themes we've done too many times already?

Screen Shot 2017-07-25 at 12.18.41 PM.png

Minimal games can be good if they are done well, but haven't we already tried minimalism already?

LD11: Minimalist LD26: Minimalism

Once upon a time I would have upvoted this, figuring a minimal game would be less work than a game with lots of detail, but now I just don't want to see endless Mondrian games.

I am in!

I am in, rearranged my weekend and should get everything done this time! :) I have a far less ambitious plan than - "Do everything perfect!" I have done a few of these, and have mostly finished games. But, I really can't wait to try this with all the practicing I have been doing. I am psyched!

Depending on 2D or 3D (haven't done a 3D game yet so it intrigues me)

Unity/Blender/Inkscape/Photoshop

UncleChris

Why are so many themes very specific?

Most of the themes don't allow you to look at it from a different perspective.

For example: You are not the main character Limited visibility and Limited tools are themes that can't be interpreted in different ways!

I'm in!

Never done a Ludum Dare before - never really sat down to code a proper game before! Going to be trying to use SDL with C/C++, we'll see how it goes! Wish me luck everyone :)

I'm in!

My wife agreed to give me more time for this jam! Still need to figure out how to scope my project better.

Using Unity3D and Paint.NET

I'm in!

I'll be in Croatia, where there's barely any internet, but I think I'll make it! Update: I got internet and the upload speed is actually better than home.

I'm in!

I'm in, I'll be using unity 3D, fl studio, and autodesk maya. Good luck to everyone, and have fun !

I'm in

This will be my second attempt to participate. The first (LD37) didn't went so well, but still it was fun. Hope that results will be playable this time.

In tools department I'll probably stick to: * Engine: Godot or Phaser or Love2d * Programmers art: Krita

I’m in & and filming it too!

…and if you’re interested in my personal 8 tips for a successful game jam from before LD #38, look no further: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ-VOEb4I2Y I wish you all the best! And please vote responsibly! ;)

I'm in... again!!!

I'm in! For the 4th time! Representing the Blender Game Engine (UPBGE), and the Brazil!!! :D

GameDev Discord Group

discordgdn.png

Hello there wonderful developer person!

I heard a rumour that you Ludum Dari (plural?) like making games. We run a partnered server over on Discord called GameDevNetwork for all things gamedev, whether that be in the form of code support, bouncing back story ideas or just sharing your lovely work.

GDN is a friendly, supportive development community that aims to help you become the best developer you can be!

We host monthly(ish) jams with fabulous prizes (by which I mean stickers and PR mentorship, we strictly avoid monetary prizes, we're here for creativity after all!) and love spreading community flair.

We also have a #gamejam channel reserved to contain the intense action of fantastic jams such as Ludum Dare.

Drop by and talk about anything from your Ludum Dare project to what your favourite pizza topping is over here: https://discord.gg/gdn :tada:

I'm also an avid game jammer/hackathoner, feel free to poke me about AR/VR, code things or just some of the cool projects you've worked on

It's Time... to Ludum D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DARE! (I'm In)

I'm innnnnnn my dudes! Gonna be doing the Jam again I guess even though I won't have much time to work on Monday. My tools: -Unity, C# -Blender/Photoshop/Animate CC depending on how I'm feeling -BFXR and GarageBand I guess

We're in...making a tabletop game this time.

This time, I'm trying something different. Entering the jam as a team of three, and making a tabletop game instead of a video game.

The plan is to get creative not just with the game mechanics but also with the construction. My wife, Rachel, is a serious tabletop gamer and also really into making craft projects. We'll be using her experience to come up with some interesting ways of constructing a tabletop game.

My brother-in-law will be co-designing the game and also grilling some burgers, if we can talk him into it.

We're planning to release pdf's and videos to document the rules and the construction process. I'm guessing just about no one will build and play the thing (other than us). In any case, it should be fun.

Where are all the artists?

I'm looking forward to this weekend. I have an idea that's taking shape in my mind, and I want to be super prepared with design documents, task lists and all that. Github, Dropbox, Trello, the works. I posted an ad on Crowdforge and now find myself in charge of a team; we are 2 coders and 1 composer. What we could really use to balance out the team is an artist! Basically someone who knows Photoshop and is willing to work on small 2d textures for skinning buildings and urban environments, and knows (or is willing to have a go with) some sprite animations. The game is to be done in HTML, CSS and Javascript.

I guess im in

I'm in...

...Maybe.

I'm in. (if i don't have a baby!)

I will be participating, as long as i don't have the baby. :-) if that doesn't happening, I'll be using

Let's have some fun!

After FINALLY breaking my failure streak, I really don't want to start another one, so I'm in!

I'm using: * GameMaker Studio 2 * Aseprite * Bfxr * Abundant Music & GXSCC

Good luck everyone! Have a wonderful Ludum Dare!

I've made a personal Game Jam to prepare myself for the LD39!

Yep! I'm so happy with LD39, and me and my friends decided to make a "pre game jam game jam" last week, and you can see (and play) the results of my game here:

LD 39

Woohoo! First time participating in a Ludum Dare,I'm hoping it'll be a real fun time for me!

Won't have time, but will participate anyways.

Sadly my upcoming weekend is seriously packed...but I should still have between 2-5 hours of free time, so I'll still try to participate but the quality is gonna be bad hahah. This would have been my 2nd LD Jam and well, I hope i'll make it and it WILL be my 2nd LD Jam... here's hoping for a favorable theme so I can make something half decent :D cheers everyone, welcome new comers and good luck to everyone, the rookies and veterans alike.

I'm In...

Yes... I'm in... I already asked my wife for permission ;-)

Again - I'm on my own this time - since my teammate Codetoffel is on vacation. Hopefully I will manage to get an... and stick to... my idea. I will try something different again. (Depends on the final theme decision but I already have a nice idea)

As always... I will document my Ludum Dare gamedev experience in my blog @ www.MegAgeM.net

Letz have some Phun @ LD39

Screen recording! What is it good for...

So this time around I want to stream my screen so I can analysis my time use after the Dare (emphasize stream because I don't have enough space on my SSD to record offline). Can anyone recommend software? I tried Open Broadcaster but found it rather unintuitiv. Maybe Nvidia Game Stream? I think I head it could also broadcast desktop.

Recommendations would be absolutely fantastic!

I'm In!!

Don't have a full weekend to work, but I'll still try to get something done in whatever time I have. First time participating in a Ludum Dare, looking forward to it!

Im in! maybe i’ll join a team or doing jam alone

Cause i just graduated and im busy looking for jobs I don’t have time (2 days) for joing the compo. I just feel tired looking jobs and going to interviews etc.

**ALSO HAVE A LOOK AT MY CHESS**
With that check out my chess game that Me and my group made before for our school project. Sorry if there are bugs that makes the game unplayable. Also the source code is available in the video link description.

Hey fellow Swiss dev!

Good luck!

Training day 2

HI MY FELLAS!

In my last post I wrote about my pixel training. Also, I posted some of my new sprites and god pretty good feedback!

Mr./Ms. @laughingleader pointed out syncing movement of arms and legs. Mr./Ms. @notapollogising wrote about big movements+long animations, and finally Mr./Ms @gregoriobenatti shared link with an awesome tutorial.

So here is fruit of my work!

I'm In

I'm a professional game developer, and I've been with LudumDare for many years now, and yet only managed to create 2 games so far, so I hold tons of respect for all the people that come here and attempt to make a game.
However for me, this time will be different: I am better prepared than I was ever before, I've spent the last few weeks learning the tools, rescoped myself to aim for tiny games I can make in a couple of hours, and mentally prepared for victory, no matter the theme.

The tools I'll be using: * Unity for the game * Blender for modelling * Photoshop for textures and UI. * Modplug Tracker for music * Bfxr/Sfxr and Audacity for sounds

Wish me luck!

First Gamejam

This'll be interesting. I look forwards to seeing ya'll on the battlefield :P

First gamejam and first time developer

I‘m a new developer and I’m looking forward to the Ludum Dare event that’s coming up! It’ll be interesting to put all my knowledge together to make a game in a set time, I have high hopes that I(and if my Team decides to join in) will hopefully make one within’ said time period!

Not long ago I was looking at things like this and got really jealous that I couldn’t do it as I knew nothing about programming, only took 3 months and I’m intermediate at it (C# and Javascript, I do know HTML and a small bit of Python, also Ruby and C++).

I look forward to trying out the games that get submitted and I hope you guys will also check out my submission when the time comes.

It’s nice to see developers from around the Globe come to one place and chill out.

BigJiggly.

I'm in

I thought this was a couple weeks away, but hey look at me misjudging time as always. Anyway, I'm in. I have to work on my asset creation skills, so this time I'll focus on making a good looking/sounding game because my music is poop and my art and level design skills are basically non-existent :D Good luck to everyone! Happy LD.

I'm in

I'm so excited, this is my first Lubum Dare and only the second game jam i've ever done. I wish luck to everyone!

Prepared for Ludum Dare 39 Game Jam!

I'm as ready as can be regarding Ludum Dare 39. ;)

I was considering doing the compo but after consideration, I am going to do the game jam, I would have a team but my close friends have plans this weekend so going in solo! I wish Everyone and me luck for the jam! I be on Twitter and such if anyone needs me. ;)

Update Regarding Last Post.

I just realized my close friends most likely have plans of their own this weekend... Going in Solo then! :P Good Luck to Everyone!

I'm In - Insane maybe is better!

Well going to give this a try. Watched Quill18 the last couple years and decided this was the one to see if I'm actually learning anything. I'm self admittedly a total newb!

So what will I be using?

Game Engine: Unity Graphics: Asset Forge if I can figure out why 2D exports look fuzzy in Unity and/or GIMP

Sounds: Not sure yet, still puzzling that part!

Let's have some Fun!

I'm probably in

Haxe, Paint.NET etc

I'm in!

My first gamejam and I'm going in solo. Hopefully something productive will come out of it! I wish everyone good luck & have a fun weekend!

Will be using:

  • Unity
  • Photoshop
  • Spriter?
  • Some audio software(have never created audio for games before?)

Why are people so angry?

So some people do not like the new page, some do not like the theme selection process. I get those things, I partly agree, there are features I loved at the old site that are not here for the new (yet), the old data is not migrated, the themes start repeating, etc.

But why are you angry about this?

Want to see a feature for the site really badly? It is open source, go in and add it. Or code against the API yourself to build a separate tool (like feedback friends did). The old site could no longer deal with the amount of participants and it was not maintainable, let's help shape the new one instead of hating on it.

Want to improve the theme selection? Discuss ideas with the team, just don't hate on them. For example: I personally would love to manually remove or at least flag the themes that are very similar to things we had before. Yes, I would love to personally do it! Do I go around and accuse PoV of deliberately selecting 'bad' themes? Of course not, he does have neither time nor incentive to do this. It just so happens that overall people prefer certain themes and not everyone was there when they won, so they probably don't even know.

Don't like the themes in the finals? Certainly say so. Vote them all down. But why lash out at throw profanities at PoV and the others? This is democracy for you, the majority may not want what you want. They may not even want what is best. Want to be a dictator? Go play some CIV or something.

This is a FREE game jam, there are no fees, there is no price money (Not in-competition at least, winners usually get good deals if they want to release the game...). It is about learning and sharing and the feeling of accomplishment and feedback and the overall community. Let's focus on having a great time, sharing how we make games and giving constructive feedback.

Want a more competitive jam with themes selected by the organizer, unique each time, candidates not known to any participant beforehand? There are plenty of alternatives, Global Game Jam comes to mind. Or look around on itch.io, there is a JAM there basically every weekend.

Side note: I think we should also split theme into 'topic' and 'limitation', each with their own judging category. The topic being something with much freedom, that will probably affect your story rather than your mechanics, let's say "space", and 'limitation' being restrictive and challenging you to work with less, let's say 'you can't move'. Participants then can use one or the other or both, each to their liking.

Im in :)

begin of spam

Let's say it's my second time.

With a friend ill be working on my own engine-like thing based on sfml, thor, and box2d ( its repo is here if someone have time to waste xD : https://github.com/Risist/ReEngine2Die )

for graphics probably ms paint & paint.net (will see) for music audacity (do not expect too good quality :P )

end of spam

I'm in, again!

Okay, so this is my second time participating in a game jam. Last time, in Ludum Dare 38, I created Conquery & was very happy with the overall game jam experience.

I look forward to having an even better experience this time.

Like last time, I'm going to use Phaser & Typescript for programming the game. Last time, I didn't pay attention to the graphics, but this time I'm looking forward to using Gravit designer for my graphics.

What about you guys? What tools are you using? And best of luck for the game jam, guys!

I'm in

As unhappy as I was with the end product of my first LD jam, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So, it's time to give it another go!

Going to be using Unity again, and joining the Compo.

I'm in!

This will be my second Ludum Dare. Just completing my last game was a huge personal success. This time, I will be trying to improve my ratings and overall, produce a better game.

I will also be attempting to screen record my progress and post a timelapse to YouTube. Any suggestions regarding recording game creation is much appreciated.

I am using Unity, Blender, Audacity, Bosca Ceoil, and I still need to find a sound effects program.

Good luck to all participants!

Ludum Dare 38 Jam Favorites Article

Just in time for the Ludum Dare 39, I have written up an article about all of my favorite games from the Ludum Dare 38! You can check it out here - http://fireside.gamejolt.com/post/jam-favorites-ludum-dare-38-vepwgamy :) Good luck this LDJAM!

I'm in for LD39 Compo!

This will be my 5th attempt at LDJAM (but only two completed submissions)!

I want to make something quite different this time, I felt my previous two entries were quite similar mechanically although I was happy with my improvements to the formula.

I've been in a bit of a slump lately, so I hope LDJAM will help get me out of it!

But a SmallTrek for Android should be coming out very soon, it's working just needs a bit more polish before I'm happy with it!

Been working on some chiptunes on LSDJ to get in the groove. https://soundcloud.com/impbox/only-cat

Tools i'll be using:

  • Nico game framework https://github.com/ftsf/nico
  • Pico8 for sfx
  • LSDJ for music
  • aseprite for gfx
  • tiled for map editing if applicable

Please remember to be excellent to each other!

I'm in

This is my first Ludum Dare. My objective is finished the game within time limit. I'm going to use SFML, it's very hard and slow compare to high-level game engine like Unity or Godot. I wonder if anyone else use SFML in Ludum Dare. I also use GIMP for pixel art, LMMS for sound.

Whatever, good luck jammers.

I'm not in

Something came up over this weekend :(

I'm in!

Looking forward to my fifth Ludum Dare Compo with LD39!

I am the one they call... IN!

Well, it looks like its that time again!

Godspeed, my fellow jammers! May your minds be full of inspiration and your mugs full of caffeine!

I'm in again

I have missed the last jam, but I'm here again. This will my third time.

I'm going to participate alone, I haven't found a partner free for this weekend.

I'm going to work with GameMaker (or unity, if the theme required it), and Google Chrome to access OpenGameArt (jeje...)

This time, I'm going to try to play more games than the previous jams. I will try to get more views for my game.

I'm in. I think..

It has been a while since my last LD, so I want to do one again. This time I am planning on doing something in 3D with Unity, Blender and Paint.Net/Inkscape for any textures/sprites. Maybe I will create and edit some random sounds in Audacity like I did for my last game.

Good luck everyone!

I'm in !

I'm in and so excited ! I wanted to do something for a while but never participated to Ludum Dare so it'll be my first time. I'll try to survive despite the lack of sleep and my medium programation skill.

Game Engine : Unity3d Art : Gimp, maybe adobe animate too Sound : Bosca Ceoil (but honestly I don't know if i'll have enough time for that)

Good luck everyone and have fun !

My First Ludum Dare + Blog Post

Hello guys, this is my second Game Jam (first was a GGJ) and both my first LD and my first Game Jam Solo, I'm very excited about it!

I've posted about it in my blog: http://firepitgames.net/blog/game-jams/2017/07/starting-participate-game-jams/

I'm planning to use: Unity, Gimp, Krita, Spriter, Audacity and Blender too depending on the theme.

Looking forward to seeing the projects that the community will come up with!

Oh boy, I am so excited for this. This will be my first Ludum Dare or a game jam in general. For the past couple of years I've been watching Quill18's livestreams of him creating a game for Ludum Dare and I'v finally decided to do this myself.

Tools: Unity with Sublime Text 3, Blender, FL Studio (or Bosca Ceoil), Photoshop

Good luck!
