Making Progress

Okay, I'm at the point where I need to buckle down and add content now.. let's see how much I can add before the end!

Pretty happy with the basic core gameplay.

P.S. is there a way to embed imgur gifs in these posts? Uploads keep failing for me.

Wow this is hard

saturday night sucks

Nearing the end of round 2...

The night is almost coming to an end. Welp. Well at least things seem to be coming together. Not sure I will have time to implement most of the cooler features I thought of but I think the core gameplay will be solid for the deadline. Here is an updated screenshot.

Guess who's late?

I've made only the base level design yet...

Gotta race against time

Composing some music

One of our programmers is composing some music for our game. He is streaming the work in progress: https://www.twitch.tv/soontobedone. So if you care for a sample, you can take a listen.

Mechanics/Core done. Almost fun!

Blue caveman needs fire.png

Mechanics ready for compo. Think I squashed all the gameplay bugs. Time for assets/map and balancing....after a few hours of sleep. Light is your health. You need to feed your torch and camp fire with wood from trees or around the env.. Wood and trees don't come back. Maybe there is a different camp in the distance if you want to risk it...

Day 2 begins, also I'm in!

The second day begins time to finish up the mechanics and start work on the polish on my first ld game!. Screenshot (2).pngSorry about the programmer art btw ;)

Basic Ennemies are done

Basic Ai is made, could improve it a little but i'm overall happy with the result Also tweaked a bit the camera so it's unzoom when you move/dash

Also added lot of Number everywhere ! Maybe I shouldn't had

Well , anyways gonna take some sleep and then i'm going onward for Graphics Assets Will try to push a first version for Compo and then a better polished one of Jam :p

Discord Group! GameDev / Game Jams

discordgdn.png

Hello there wonderful developer person!

I heard a rumour that you Ludum Dari (plural?) like making games. We run a partnered server over on Discord called GameDevNetwork for all things gamedev, whether that be in the form of code support, bouncing back story ideas or just sharing your lovely work.

GDN is a friendly, supportive development community that aims to help you become the best developer you can be!

We host monthly(ish) jams with fabulous prizes (by which I mean stickers and PR mentorship, we strictly avoid monetary prizes, we're here for creativity after all!) and love spreading community flair.

We also have a #gamejam channel reserved to contain the intense action of fantastic jams such as Ludum Dare.

Drop by and talk about anything from your Ludum Dare project to what your favourite pizza topping is over here: https://discord.gg/gdn :tada:

I'm also an avid game jammer/hackathoner, feel free to poke me about AR/VR, code things or just some of the cool projects you've worked on

Update! There's also a dedicated LD Jam group over here: https://discord.gg/ucGcvKK !

My game is done!

Night 2

Finished my second night of coding. It's pretty late. I'm feeling better than I did before! Still don't have a finished game but it is a lot farther along than it was last time I posted!

It's starting to feel like there's something to do in it!

I've got a list of things to do tomorrow before the submission deadline comes. The biggest thing is to add "days" where at the end of every day the nearby city collects a bunch of power units. If you don't have enough you lose! Or something like that! We'll see.

Remember to check me out on twitch tomorrow! https://www.twitch.tv/seanw265

Ooops!

Well, not a lot to show so far.

Once more I pick a framework and then proceed to use it in a way it was never meant for! In this case, I am trying to do scaling/rotating tilemaps in HaxeFlixel.

Is it possible? Sure. Is it hacky? Oh heck yes.

It works, and now on to getting Nape to play along nice with the rotated tilemaps... But I think I will do that tomorrow!

It took me a lot longer than I expected to get this working. I'm an old pro at Flixel and Flash, but let me stress the OLD. Flixel has had one major re-write since I last touched it, and it looks like HaxeFlixel has undergone a few more since then. I had to relearn everything.

I am SO FAR BEHIND. :gorilla:

NoPowerNoTower

LD39_01.png

Honestly this LD I kinda lack the enthusiasm, I can't even really say why. But I'm confident I'll get a game done - if not as Compo surely as Jam.

Systems done: - Basic Enemy (Unity NavMesh) - Basic Tower - Walls (NavMeshObstacles) - Placement of Buildings - Early Version of the Maintheme

Systems to be done: - UI - Energymanagement - Waves increasing in difficulty - Mainmenu - more Towers, more Enemies - more Graphics

Hah, got another hour in!

I got the magnet functiong going! It's much more fun now:)

Coldridge

Have to finish my jam early because of irl x=x; here's a vid of the results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWShe4FetWM (can someone tell me how to capture gifs? I feel like there's a way to do that which I don't know .o.)

Working on my entry!

ld39-1.gif

The robot has a energy bar, when the bar goes down is slower and then die... he need to find resources and craft batteries!

A Misadventure in Space

(Tried to post this yesterday, but it wouldn't let me, so here we go.) Now we can finally take a look at the planetary systems with our ship! By going into orbit with a planet, events can trigger and resources can be harvested. Meanwhile, your board systems are draining your limited amount of power. If you take damage, you can repair your hull with metal. Food and Ice are required by the crew and must be gathered from planets.

Also be sure to not go head first into a planet or star.

What a surprise

I just wanted to find out at which August weekend exactly the next LD will take place, and oh well. For the last two years or so I never really managed to participate for various reasons. Now I wanted to take a few days off to make sure I can finally create a new Ludum Dare game, and now this. :(

Anyway, have fun everybody, maybe I’ll be able to join next time!
