Good luck!
Might end up doing the LD this weekend, depending on how my RSI is. Regardless, GL to everyone!
Might end up doing the LD this weekend, depending on how my RSI is. Regardless, GL to everyone!
I have not been keeping my skills fresh, so here's hoping I can shake off the rust that's built up since last LD!
But I'm in for the compo.
For tools I'll be using Unity w/ some base code, Audacity/Reaper, and some combination of Inkscape/Blender/Aseprite depending on art style.
Hi! Can anyone pls tell me a music editing software that is free to use and easy to learn? I currently use BoscaCeoil but i want something new...
Going to be my 4th Ludum Dare. 2 games produced and 1 abandoned but I have brought along two friends as first time game jammers so here's hoping it all goes well. Engine: Unity Code: Visual Studios C# Art: Pyxel Edit and possibly others Music: TBD
Excited to see how this attempt goes
Some great themes so far, excited this will be my 5th LD. Hopefully I can push my creative skills a bit further. Have fun everyone!

~~Hey everyone! My animator had to drop out last-minute, so I'm looking for a replacement! I'm using a custom engine, so no real engine experience is required; all I need is a sequence of PNGs and my tools will do the rest! If you're interested, let me know!~~
EDIT: My good buddy Des came in clutch, as always. Let's rock.
2nd Ludum Dare in a row. Last game I make completely in Linux this time in MacOS. Excited and ready to go!
woo okay first ludum Dare, very nervous and i know what i make isnt gonna be amazing but im excited to participate. hopefully i can finish something even if its small
Game engine: Unity Language: C# Sounds: Bfxr
Hi everyone, looking forward to our first Jam!
Tools: Either Orx or if I get bold, my own engine built on LWJGL Gimp Ableton Live and/or Reaper
Going to give it a try again, last ldjam was a ton of fun. Using HaxeFlixel this time, moving from Phaser 3 in my last jam. Also going to use bfxr for sfx which I've found is much easier than creating them in Ableton, while still using Ableton for music. =)
Don't let them fool you
I'm moving into a new house, and I just finished painting my office.
I now have my basic gamedev setup going, too.

Please don't make fun of my hideous desktop. :smirk:
During the Slaughter, even though I didn't have time to finish it, I encountered (and kept) many really solid theme suggestions. I also voted a few solid ones out simply because I didn't feel like they were solid enough. Now only 6 of those that remain seem like they're even worthy of consideration. Let me explain.
At game jams, I feed off the theme for inspiration. I'm not good at generating ideas on the spot, especially ones that I feel are worth doing. I've participated in 11 jams, and I've never had a random game idea just pop into my head and happen to work with the theme. With that in mind, here's my opinion on each theme suggestion in the final voting round for LD47.
Decay is very close to the LD46 theme, "Keep it alive". I think 90% of LD46 games would work with "Decay", some perhaps even better than with "Keep it alive". It also heavily suggests a specific game mechanic, which is a limitation, instead of inspiration.
Layers is just... a word to me. I can't link it to an environment, a character, a topic (unless I'm making an image editor?), a trope, a story... there's just a big dark void in here. How does one have a take on 'layers'? Please let me know in the comments.
Control the world, not the player is literally impossible. When you play a game, you are the player. You cannot not control yourself. The player might control the world, but what is the point here?
Nomad is very good! There are character archetypes, environments, stories, tropes, and references you can probably think of fairly easily, but there's also a lot of room for imagination. Coming up with game mechanics for this one shouldn't be hard, and it will be very interesting to see where everyone goes with their games!
I'm not sure how to feel about Connections or Day and night. They make me think of cool concepts, but I'm not seeing a lot of 'game' in them, at least not yet. Anyone?
Stuck in a loop sounds like recycling a mechanic from some popular games, like Outer Wilds, Minit, The Sexy Brutale, 12 Minutes, etc., and I'd have to find inspiration elsewhere to think of a game idea that I could shoehorn it into. I don't want to make a Minit clone.
Feeding the monster is straight up a game idea, while also being somewhat close to LD46. Pick your genre, pick your monster, make the player feed it. Boring.
Delay the inevitable - see, if it was just about 'inevitability', it would be great. The 'delay' part sadly brings it back around to strongly suggesting either a mechanic or a specific story line. All inspiration I get from this one is about death and gloomy stuff. I have a feeling there would be a lot of gloomy games about delaying death or some evil, and it would be boring. And a little cliché.
Contain it is a game objective, much like "Keep it alive", which I disliked the same exact way. Pick your monster, disease (inb4 a thousand COVID-19 games) or other evil, make the player do stuff to keep it contained. Like, please, let me write my GDD.
Shipwrecked could work, because there is both a literal and a metaphorical sense to be explored here. Not as well as "Nomad", I think, because "Shipwrecked" bears a stronger story suggestion, but it might turn out quite workable.
Clockwork is decent. I can see multiple paths of interpretation here. The spark of inspiration is kind of there, although it hasn't led me to a very open place yet. What do you think? I think I may have a vague idea for a game here, but it could be difficult to pull off.
You can't save them all sounds like either a mechanic or a narrative, and while I appreciate that the narrative is somewhat vague, it's also fairly close-ended. You gotta think of a story or gameplay, and then make it go a particular way, without letting the player prove themself. Or do you? Either way, it kinda forces your hand in how to make your game.
Death is not the end, on the other hand, is quite open-ended (pun and rhyme not intended), and I like it. Haven't come up with game ideas yet, but I did suggest a mildly similar theme myself ("Death is never what it seems"), and they both have the nice property that 'death' is only an anchor point, not a predefined objective or narrative. I would be interested to see how people interpret this one!
Summoning feels rather empty and cliché. How many games about demons, witchcraft, sorcery, and summoning are there out there? Because I think we've all stopped counting.
The world changes when you are not looking is a game mechanic, and honestly, someone's game idea. Nothing to have a take on, just a thing that you gotta shoehorn into whatever idea you come up with. And it's hard to come up with something original for this one.
I think we had a better theme pool in April. Then again, we still picked "Keep it alive" :stuckouttongue:
As always, this is just my take, and I'm up for debating it! I know that the suggestions I praised might not work super well for those who are doing their 1st, 2nd, 3rd game jam, or those who do actually look to the jam theme for a limitation, not inspiration. I hope I was able to explain my opinion well. Let me know how you feel, and if I missed anything.
Also, who here got the "Death is never what it seems" reference? :)
This will be my second ludum dare. Is it required to post a blog saying you're participating?
Yo, what's up!!!!
I am in, probably same tools as last time. Also branch off the same code. Need to build that value in it. https://github.com/njd5475/ld44
This is gonna be epic!!!
I've finished all my homework and so that means I have Friday to relax before Ludum Dare! Better stock up on snacks and maybe put together some base code!
Good luck to everybody! I hope everybody will have a great weekend!
Hi Can I use the ludum dare logo in my game? If yes,is there a place to download the logo?
The usual suspects:
Let's go make some Games!
Myself and my two sons (10 and 11) will be participating. This will be our first time participating in a game jam and this will be their first time working on a game. It's been a while since I've worked on a game, so I'm going to have to knock the rust off. I'm hoping that this will be a great learning experience for them and that it will spark their interest. I look forward to building something memorable with them this weekend.
Engine: Unity
IDE: VSCode
Art: Gimp and maybe blender
Audio: Undecided
Snacks: Provided by wife
I just noticed from my website that I have participated in over 10 Ludum Dares :open_mouth: I've worked with a lot of different techs, Phaser (JS/TS), HaxeFlixel (Haxe) and Unity (C#) being my favorites.
This time we're using Phaser and Typescript to go with it and we built a simple template to help us get started.
You can use it too, if you like!
It uses snowpack instead of parcel or webpack for added development and download speed! If you check it out, let me know!
https://github.com/katis/phaser-collab
I'm already nervous, it's been a while since I've had an actual deadline; it's pretty exciting I'll be using:
Engine: Godot
Art: Aseprite and tilesetter
Music: youtube or a friend
Sound Effects: bxfr
Hi!
LD47 is almost around the corner, so here are the tools I'll be using:
ENGINE Unity Engine (2020.1v I think)
SOUND EFFECTS sfxr
ARTWORK Pencil2D
MUSIC Garageband
IDE Visual Studio (for c#)
HOSTING BINARIES itch (petehsoteira.itch.io)
HOSTING SOURCE CODE github (https://github.com/117Coder)
Our humble team of 3 has but a few months of game dev experience under our belts, and one member is being thrown completely into the deep end with 0 experience.
with this in mind I have only one thing to say ...WE'VE GOT THIS TEAM!! ♥ we are going to have a blast
Engine: Unity
Art: Aseprite
Music/sound: BoscaCeoil / Sfxr
Hey Everyone!
Well, this is my first Ludum Dare JAM, hoping I'll be able to complete a game withing the given time :v:
My GitHub profile: https://github.com/Zanark
Hi everyone! I am soooo excited about this, I cant wait anymore! As I said, I won't use any engine and I will work as a team of 3 people. I have a lot of ideas about the themes, better if I do a little of brainstorming

Hi Darers!
I'm in, this will be my 8th Ludum Dare! I'm also on a quest to participate to 12 game jams this year. I am currently at 8. So a bit late on the schedule but still hoping to reach my goal before the end of the year!
I'm wishing you to have fun, learn new stuffs and finish your game!
Follow me on twitter and play my previous LD entry.
Good luck everyone!
looking forward to this jam, time to bust out some Construct 3!
ive seen other people posting so i guess ill post. ive been in a few jams before but this is my first Ludum Dare. ill be in a team and ill be using Unity, Photoshop, Bosca Ceoil, and Audacity
Hi there My name is Varad,I am a solo dev. I am participating first time in Ludum Dare Game Jam. Hope I complete my game in 72 hours.
Engine:- Unity Art:- Aseprite/Blender/MagicaVoxel Music:- Bosca Ceoil
I decided to go into a bit more detail about the software I currently use to make games, not just the main ones used to create them, but also the software I use to put it all together. I've listed everything roughly in order of importance, starting of course with...
Godot - Game engine
I could list many reasons why I use Godot, and why I dropped Unity after using it for so long, but put simply, it's because Godot just makes it so easy to make the games that I want to make, where Unity has too much complexity I'm not going to use.
Aesprite - Pixel art
Don't really have to say much about this, it's just the best free (if you compile it yourself) pixel art software out there, hands down.
Audacity - Audio editing
I've been using Audacity since before I started making games, it's easy to use, while also having tons of functionality, I've never needed anything more, and I doubt I ever will.
GIMP - Image editing
Much like Audacity, GIMP has been my go-to image editor ever since I found out about it, while I know many others exist, I've never needed anything that GIMP couldn't do, so I never needed to try any of them.
ImageMagick - Icon creation
This command line tool serves a very specific purpose for me, and that is the creation of .ico icon files for the Windows builds of my games. While I could easily use GIMP to do this, ImageMagick is far quicker and easier to use for this simple task.
ScreenToGif - GIFs and screenshots
This is an awesome piece of software that I wish I'd found sooner; not only is it the best GIF creation software I've used, but it also has an excellent screen recorder built in, and also doubles as a screenshot tool because it can save individual frames of the recording.
LMMS - Music
While I am yet to actually make my own music for games, I have used it for other purposes, and found it very flexible and easy to use, even more so than Bosca Ceoil, which is another common choice.
OBS - Video recording
Though I don't use it regularly (ScreenToGif covers the majority of my needs), I've tried countless other screen recorders, and OBS was the only one that didn't produce significant FPS drops while recording games, which is why I thought I should include it on this list.
And that's it, while I do use other software occasionally, such as Blender, Inkscape, GreenShot, and Bfxr, I don't use them enough to consider them part of my regular toolkit, so I didn't include them here either.
Hi everyone! I'm in. I have some of ideas on all the themes, but hope the most abstract theme wins.
For the hype, this is my workplace:
The tools I'm going to use:
- engine: Construct 3
- art: Photoshop
- music: freesound.org
Good luck and have a nice jam, everyone!
I will joining the competition and am so freeeaaking excited haha! This is my third game jam and hope it goes well. Good luck everyone!
Engine: Unity
Art: Gimp/Blender
Music: freesounds.org/beepbox.co

My name is Sirina and I try to make my game in 48 hours or in 72 hours. I'm solo beginner game developer so I'll be learning too everything. I'll be using C++, SFML2. If I could I'll be recording everything what I'm doing.
teaming up
My first ldjam
excited and nervous at the same time heh
Since LD 39 i am still in and try to build something.
Normally i would say "I'm in" but this time i don't want to stress out if i don't have a good idea for a game. Why this ? I tried making games everytime and some of them i really proud of :).
But there are also some of them where i thought "why the hell i did that" - sure you gain experience but sometimes i was not worth the time. For example in LD 42 i did a really bad game (and this was were i was on vacation as i thought it is a good idea to jamming while on vacation). It was not a good idea.
But hey i still love making games and i really love to take part of ludum dare and thats why everyone is here - so i didnt missed a LD since LD39. And so i think i will be in this time too :)
So happy jamming and lets hope the theme doesn suck :D

Playable on Windows here : https://t-bo-games.itch.io/flash-match
"Flash Match" is a local multiplayer game ! Play with up to 4 players in a photo-battle !

You have 5 minutes to find as many little pictures as possible corresponding to the big photo in the center of the screen ! Open your eyes, point a picture with the cursor and FLASH IT !
You can also find my previous Ludum Dare games on Google Play: - here (LD44 : The strange life of Bill the postman ) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TBoGames.Bill - or here (LD45 : Nothing is my car ) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TBoGames.Nothingismycar
I always like to use LDJAM as a learning experience and this time I thought I'd mix things up from all my previous jams.
I decided I'm going to target the JAM and not the Compo and make use of the assets that I've bought from humblebundle.
This is a pretty big departure from my previous jams. I tend to start with everything from scratch and typically end up spending 1/2 a day making and rigging a character model. This always leaves me running out of time to polish and often leaves me with some cool features but lacking game.
Not this time! It feels weird, but I want to get over my reluctance to use stuff off the asset store in general. There's some great packages out there that can save you a lot of time. It's time I start learning to use some of them.
I'm ready! 😅
Looking for an experienced pixel artist to team up with! I mainly program but I can do pixel art aswell, you can see my previous entries on my page or on twitter https://twitter.com/tulipekoni , if interested dm me on discord Mysli#4188

I have a few ideas for each theme, but I'm not particularly sold on any of them (the ideas, not the themes) so I guess I'll plug away until inspiration strikes.
I do like the idea of Infocom inspired text game, though. Tonight I'll throw together some base code that I'll upload to github after the jam.
So, this will be my second Ludum Dare, my first being 46. 46 didn't bring out my bets work but I hope I can make something I am proud of this time around!
Hey all - Yes, we're doing stupid things again - we're entering Ludum Dare Compo as team SWI-Prolog.... That's right - we're going to make a game in Prolog.
WHY? Basically, because we want to demo that you can do amazing stuff with Prolog, and a game is about the least likely thing you'd think of.
Excited, Hived and Waiting for Brackeys Watched 13 tutorials on youtube and I am foolish to think that I am ready
I guess the theme is ......
Decay
I can imagine there are loads of people joining for the first time - good luck  here are a few tips from someone who's been making games for 13 years:
Keep scope down. Work out what you could do in 8-16 hours and use that. Whatever your idea is, decide early what the absolute minimum is for that game to be playable. Then decide what you can take out, and take it out :joy: keep all your great ideas to a “nice to have” list, and implement them if you’ve got time towards the end. I’ve found that separating my “must have” and “nice to have” lists has helped a lot in the past!
Get something playable ASAP, and even send it out for people to test! I generally aim to have a first playable within a few hours.
EAT! SLEEP! DRINK! TAKE A BREAK! If you’ve scoped well enough, sleeping for 6-9 hours won’t be an issue at all, and you’ll be much better off for it.
Drinking enough water and eating proper food (including something green) will help your concentration and will definitely help avoid making stupid mistakes. Take a break, go for a walk, see a real-life person. Coming back to an issue after a break, no matter how short, often helps you see solutions that you were too frustrated to find before. It’s happened to me many, many times :joy:
Audio adds a lot to the overall experience, it’s odd how much it can add to a game. You’ll see a better score in more categories than just “audio” for including it!
Same with some basic menus! Do it first, get it out of the way then you don’t have to think about it ever again
Make a new project BEFORE the jam starts! It can take ages for things like Unity to open, so might as well get it all set up from the get go. Import any assets you plan on using (in the jam only, of course  )
Experiment! Have fun! There's always going to be a better game than yours, so don't get hung up on how well you do.
That’s all from me! Feel free to add more
So this will be my 17th LD, I had to skip the last one because it felt just wrong to participate alone at home. For me the LD is always a social event and I'm really glad that I found at least 3 people which are accompanying me.
The plan for this event is already set, Unity finally added useable 2D lights, so I'm really looking forward to play around with them. Perhaps I'll manage to create a game with nothing else than lights and particles.
Let's hope Day & Night will be our theme :)
Please tell me
Please let me know the theme of LD47
Engine - Unity 2019 Music - FL Studio, Audacity Art - Blender(if 3D), Photoshop CC 2020 SFX - Sfxr Icons - Affinity Designer 2019 IDE - Visual Studio 2019 Language - C#
Hope I made a good choice of tools!
Sixth Ludum Dare for me.
Very excited, especially 'cause I missed the last two.
I will rely on my standard tools:
Unity, Blender, Gimp, bfxr, cgmusic
Good luck to everyone and have fun!
Going to wait for the reveal and then go to bed. Hopefully when I wake up I have a few fresh ideas!

Hello! I've not been here in quite a few years - you've done a lot with the place! I'm busy this weekend but I'll chew away at something in my spare time. I'll be using Game Maker probably!
Do I need to officially join somewhere?
I understand about hosting, but how do I post my submission?
Sorry, newb questions. :)
Thanks
Tom
This time I'll be using Babylon.js. As usual I'll be working with my teammates @bcav and @genie. Good luck everyone!
I just wanted to say that, you (the developer) is more important than the game. So please take care of yourself throughout this jam
It's fine if you couldn't finish the game in time, Don't stress yourself. You still made something that you can work on and improve later if you want to.
Give yourself regular breaks and time to relax, which also helps you clear your mind and get a clearer picture of what you want to achieve.
Again, you're more important than the game you're making, so take care of yourself
Our last game, completed for LD45, was a great success, and even though we're remote this time, we're hoping to make something even better!
Programming will be done by myself, @pzafonte, and @chris-mondok. We're going to use, as always, TypeScript and HTML5 in the browser.
Our regular music guy didn't answer my text, so I'll be doing music and sound on this one. I'll be using SFXR and Bosca Ceoil.
@mikitharp will be doing the art, using either Procreate or Photoshop depending on what kind of art we decide to do.
Yeah!
Maybe I'll end up making something that doesn't suck this time. Yes. Very positive.
Hey guys, why LD so uncomfortable to use? Can someone tell how to find your teammates? Can i host my work on Twitch? Must an artist and composer stream their process like a programmer?
THANK YOU FOR THE HELP

This is kinda my first game jam, I hope all goes well :sunglasses: :fist:
I haven't done this in years, so I really look forward to go again. Compo, of course. In my spirit so-far of never using the same toolchain twice, I'll use Godot Engine this time. I haven't worked with it before, but I've spent the week going through some of the tutorials and it seems really pleasant. Scene inheritance is awesome!
This is my first entry using a "proper" game engine, so hopefully I'll be able to build something amazing!
Less than 10 hours left now! Good luck everyone, this is gonna be so much fun :D
the hype is real, might do an ascii game.
Hi everyone. This is my first jam. Very exciting. Good luck to all participants and a lot of good games at the end.
P.S. don't forget to play the game from our team as well ;)
This is my first official Gamejam. Looking very much forward to the experience. Best of luck to everyone!
Even after 14 times participating, I still get really excited the week leading up to it. I have no idea what I'll be making, and there's the potential for some interruptions this weekend, but no doubt it will be a fun time.
I'm going to copy & paste some tips I've posted in the past that I still think are great for anyone new to game jams. Good luck this weekend everyone!
Get enough sleep. My first time participating, I only slept 6 hours during the 48 hour compo. I was basically useless the following week and I’m certain my productivity over the weekend also suffered. There’s an intense time crunch with the jam, but don’t let your body suffer. Get up from the computer occasionally and rest your eyes as well.
Make sure you eat well. Don’t load up on sugar and caffeine. Eat healthy and keep your mind sharp.
Spend some time brainstorming once the theme is announced. The theme is going to suck. It always does. Don’t let that stop you, but also don’t settle on the first idea you have. Think outside the box.
Once you’ve settled on an idea, lower your scope. Then lower it again. The weekend will fly by and you won’t get nearly as much done as you’d like. The smaller your scope is, the more likely you’ll have something to submit at the end. If you do end up having extra time, you can add additional features and polish.
Get your gameplay mechanics implemented as fast as you can. Once your gameplay is there, you have something you can submit. That takes a lot of pressure off. You can then spend the rest of the jam improving and polishing.
Stick to tools you know. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending two or three of your 48/72 hours trying to figure out why this one particular thing isn’t working the way you think it should. Experimenting with game mechanics is great and encouraged, but not new tools. Make sure your existing tools are ready to go and use what you’re comfortable with. If you do decide to try new tools, accept that you may end up not submitting a game at the end of the contest.
Aim for a game that can be played to completion in 5 or 10 minutes. Most people won’t play for longer than that anyway, and if your game is short, more people will see all of it. Also err on the side of being too easy vs being too hard, again, to maximize the amount of your game people will be able to play and see.
At the end of the contest, be sure to play and rate games. Give other people good, quality feedback and many will return the favor. Be honest in your review, but be kind. I always try to lead my review with something I like about the game before giving some constructive criticism if I see areas of improvement. You need at least 20 ratings to get ranked at the end of the judging period, and you’ll get those by rating other games.
Most importantly, have fun! Game jams are for learning, fueling creativity and having fun. If you’re too stressed out and not enjoying yourself, you’re doing it wrong.

Hope this goes well with everyone guys, new or veterans, and I hope everyone FINISHES HIS GAME!!!!
My first Ludum Dare I am very excited !!
Have fun !
I've been participating in some small jams on itch.io for about a year and a half now, but this is my first time doing Ludum Dare, and I'm super excited. Good luck to everyone participating and I look forward to playing your games!
im using window 10
Looking for team for ldjam 47. Me me programmer boy(and i can do some Godot). Will be interested in joining team of any size and scale. I do have non-zero Godot experience and more substantial with programming in Python(and i guess you can say in general). Gonna be my 2nd jam. Did GMTK 2020(solo), but overscoped and hope to do better this time(also wanna be on a team to change it up).
I am kinda newb.
I will do my best to finish a game for this LD, but I will have less time for it, since we are going on a trip with the family on saturday. But that's just a small problem, right?
Good luck everyone!
Lets get weird. 7th Lude's; stdKitKinda :: b3d -> u3d -> lmms-> audy -> muhTools; I still need pizza money via shameless ads go play Floppy Deer! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.com.CoachS.DeerWalk.FloppyDeer&hl=en_US
yeah I've participated in many LDs but this time solo... let's see what I can do haha
Hi all!
Wanted to wish everyone good luck and hope the game jam gods are kind to you all, and you come up with a simple enough idea to finish it in the time limit!
Happy to finally participate in a Ludum Dare after much lurking. I haven't been learning game dev-ing for long, but I've got the drive and the passion. I do very much suck at art though, and usually relied on last minute asset pack to clean up my previous game jam entries, so this is gonna be... fun, yes, that's the word i'm looking for!
I love game jam entries as I find them always so much more unique and original than most released games. I can't wait to see what y'all come up with!
Stay healthy, take care of yourselves, remember to have fun, and LET'S MAKE SOME GAMES, YOH!

As usual, before starting a new LudumDare session, I share my game Theorem fo free - it's available on Itch.io - the best platform for indie devs. If you can find a few minutes between two code lines, download it and try it. It's a little puzzle game which I did a few years ago. Theorem has been installed on PC more than 10k times. Have fun and if you like it, post a brief comment on its main page. It's always a real pleasure to read some feedback. Thank you. I wish you the best. See you later ++

Hi, im joining this jam (my 3rd one) with my friend who will be doing graphics. I just need someone for the sound part, anyone who would like to join?
Finishing up homework to participate in this Ludum Dare and I just realized that:
A hidden meaning, right under our noses!

I was thinking of relaxing this weekend, but oh well, let's do it. Something small and sweet.
Hi guys ✌🏻, I'm Amin, a level designer who loves FPS games! Here are my latest maps:

I would like to join an experienced team that cares about their game levels. (no matter what the genre is!)
Just try harder! :D

Julia is a programming language built for scientific computing. However that didn't prevent people from building Love2d, PyGameZero like engines. Julia has an excellent library for solving differential equations. They are an elegant and powerful formalism to describe dynamical systems. I will develop and host the game on GitHub. I am also going to stream (some of) the development on Twitch.

Hi every game lovers, this is my first time to participate Ludum Dare. Me and my boyfriend, I am now in a European country and he is in China. So, we have 6 hours time difference. (One sleep and one wake up haha) We are excited! Wish everyone good luck!!!!
Let’s try this again :P
Though I won't have much time this weekend, I'll still try to find a few hours to create a small little entry for LD47. For that I'll once again will be using my base code that I have built up since LD26. It is written in JavaScript and can be used to create HTML5/canvas games. You can find the base code on github: https://github.com/ZYXer-/base-code-2d
Features: - a simple game loop - mouse/keyboard input processing - image/sound/webfont preloading - dealing with different screen resolutions
Additional classes for: - playing sounds (using SoundManager2) - loading and displaying PNG fonts - particle systems - pathfinding (using A*) - image processing class to generate 8-bit style graphics - utility functions for procedural map generation - simple one-body physics - a text class that is way more powerful than fillText() - scaling to easily display pixelart at various screen resolutions
I’m distributing the code under the GPL2 license, so feel free to use any part of it for your own project. And please – like always – report any bugs ;)
I do this exercise a few times once the final round of theme voting is available. I go through each of them and write down the first thoughts that come to mind so that i've got a headstart when the theme is chosen and I need to decide on my game idea. I thought i'd share these with you and would love to hear your first thoughts too.
| Theme | First thoughts | | ------| -------------- | | Layers | Layers could be physical layers, story/character layers. | | Control the world, not the player | Kind of implies there is a "player character" doing something whilst the player is affecting the world around them. | | Nomad | Definition: a member of a people that travels from place to place to find fresh pasture for its animals and has no permanent home. | | Connections | Could be abstract connections - ie between people or things. Could be physical connections too. | | Stuck in a loop | Gameplay takes place in a short(ish) loop which you can get out of by making small changes each time. | | Feeding the monster | Get food to an animal "monster". Or, is the monster something abstract - pollution, covid, etc | | Delay the inevitable | Gameplay takes place with a known ending and your job is to take your time getting to that ending. | | Contain it | I guess there would be a lot of Covid simulations for this one. As with others this could be physical restraints or more abstract. | | Day and night | There is some major gameplay difference between "daytime" and "nighttime". | | Shipwrecked | On an island, on another world, metaphorically? Boat (ship) / Spaceship / Timeship / etc | | Clockwork | Physical gears come to mind but "like clockwork" is a phrase in english which means a system is working well and on time. | | You can't save them all | Presumably you want to save some of them! Or do you, if "the bad guy" said this then it would be more of a threat you could try and overcome. | | Death is not the end | For me this means gameplay where you try and do something whilst "alive" and that helps/hinders the gameplay once you've "died". | | Summoning | Magical, mystical summoning of monsters or spells. To summon also means to call someone to you (command them). | | The world changes when you are not looking | The gameplay loop in this one is similar to day and night for me. Where you do something then it changes whilst you are "not looking". Sleeping / eyes closed / looking the other direction? |
Please let me know your first thoughts too!
I am so insanely excited for LD47. Lawrence and I have been looking forward to it from the minute we finished LD46. We're gonna make something awesome. Good luck, all!
Some game engines require you to set a screen size on start-up. How do you pick those?
What screen size is considered safe today?
The twitch player literally never works for me
Good luck for the game jam everyone 😊 !!!
?
if the theme seems fun i'm in, else... maybe not, considering i severely lack motivation.
This is my second LD, hoping to build on the mistakes I made last time 😅
This time, I will... - be working on the same project with other people rather than each of us trying to build something ourselves... - use a framework I'm more familiar with (Love2D) rather than trying to learn a new one (PhaserJS) - actually use the framework, rather than building something myself then realising the framework had already solved it (though, I don't blame myself too much for not being able to navigate the PhaserJS documentation - it's really not that great) - try not to shoehorn my day job programming techniques into the game (spent too much time connecting React to PhaserJS for not that much gain. The menu was so quick to build! But the glue wasn't!) - not worry about deploying the game at the start (last time I spent ~3hrs figuring out how to package a TS app and deploy onto Glitch - figured it out eventually but it wasn't worth it). This time we're using Love so we just need to zip up some files and upload. - make something with interactivity first (cos even if the game is boring, at least you can poke it)
@Tipyx and I are in! It'll be our second game jam made together for us, so it'll be fun :)
We'll use :
Good luck to everybody, I hope you'll enjoy too!

I'm stoked. Good luck everyone! I'll see y'all soon. ^ ^
