Ludum Dare 47 October 2–5, 2020

I don't like it

We are definitely not inspired by it with my team

Wait

So I would have 2 days to finish my game Wait Or 3

I Might Be In

I Might be in not sure if I will participate yet.

Stuck in a loop

K, I'm going to make a multiplayer maze, but you have to pass it twice before you move on to next maze.

First Jam

Seems like breaking out of "finding-idea" loop will be hard.

Who vote this theme?

It's seems like most of participants aren't thrilled with this theme...

I'm in! (i guess)

This is my first Ludum Dare but I've been told that saying "I'm in" is sorta a thing haha. Good luck to you all, this theme is definitely gonna require some big brain plays! Look forward to see what everybody comes up with!

Not my favourite theme

but its not my least favourite. Hopefully I can get something out but I did just start my studies again.

Maybe a time loop mystery could be interesting.

my idea is

2ue135.jpg

Awesome Theme

Yeah the theme for LDJ47 is pretty interresting, i can work with this! TORTUROUS LOOPING GAME INCOMING!

COMPO ENDS IN 5 SECONDS

QUICK HURRY UP THERE'S ONLY oh wait it's okay because it is loop ld loop.png

hooray

really?

this is my 3rd gamejam and 2nd ludum dare jam and seriously? this is one is making me pretty stumped

I’m in!

I’ve had an idea rattling around in my head for literal years that’ll fit here.

We will see how much time I actually get to work over the weekend though... dad life.

Probably do this in pico-8 because it’s cosy and the furthest from work that I can get while still being able to develop.

I'm in, I guess

Although I'm quite "stuck in a loop" trying to come up with an idea for this lame theme...

The worst theme?!

I think it is good challange for us. Our imagination is endless. Maybe along with the worst adversities the best games created? Good luck and have fun! 🔥

Good Luck, Everyone!

I’m not sure what’s I’m doing as of yet, but I’m going to try focusing more in the “stuck” part of the theme.

By now, I've mostly done some groundwork for some general classes that I can use for later.

ld47_1.png

This is what my project looks right now. There's nothing of much interest - I honestly don't know why anyone would be interested in this.

ld47_2.png

I use this code pattern all the time to generalize specific scripts that need to happen in certain order. It's very easy to use as the framework for stuff like cutscenes, but right now I'm thinking I'll need to write an "app" class to manage stuff like resizing the window and stuff.

ld47_3.png

And here's a very quick and dirty code that I haven't even tested. I had this idea the other day, and I'd like to try and make something out of it.

I might not post as much, this is my first jam so I'm not really expecting to make it all the way through - I hope I have fun doing this. Good Luck, Everyone!

Help - I'm stuck in a loop

Please help me.

This is the 1,896th time I have participated in Ludum Dare 47.

Every time I complete my game and go to bed on Sunday, I wake up in the morning and it's Friday again and I have to start all over.

What do I have to do to escape? Get first place?

Im in.

First time at this.

Same Jam Different Game

It's our second time we try to make a game and we hope this one will be even better than what we did the last time. Really hope everybody has fun and while we at it : go and get stuck in a loop loop loop loo......

Games that never end...

If anyone creates a game that never ends to keep the player in an infinite loop, I'm gonna come around to your house and give you a slap.

We're in!

Ah shit, here we go again

What?

ludumdare47.png

You sneaky thing you!

Believe it or not, minutes earlier I saw that I had missed that theme and thought "Well, that is not going to be the one... I'm gonna let it be".

Y'all complain, however..!

a worse theme could have been chosen, for example:

looking at the final themes list

looking nervously

There MUST be anything worse here!

Nah.

2020, You don't spare us

obrazem2020-10-03/em002845.png

Im in

I think the theme is cool

Got it

so i pinched my self to see if it was a dream, unfortunately it was not, but i got a idea, not the greatest or original idea, its basic but it technicaly counts as stuck in a loop

Glad to see a theme I voted for!

Well, I wanted this theme. Half an hour in and I don't have a single Sprite. This theme is a prediction, I'm brainstorming right now and I keep thinking the same ideas over and over again!

I'm surprised.

Oh boy. This is the first time I'm starting work on a game right away. I've got almost everything set up in my noggin, all I gotta do is implement it. I don't have a win/exit condition for the game yet, but I guess we'll see as it goes.

Worst theme

Yup

My brain went blank

Flying solo here, the theme was announced and my brain went blank!!

Stuck in a loop "idea"

well.... theme comes and there goes all my good ideas....

I did have this one idea though, I doodled it:

IDEA1.png

Just a simple critter that is stuck on a path having to avoid objects and stuff, its sort on on the back up idea pile.

Big oof

Well, at least failing art won't be an issue this time around.

Can't fail if you don't even have the slightest idea wesmart.png

im in

You see a message scrawled in blood here. You read: "E|beretnEl?cr~?h".

Loops

This theme is actually really good for me because I'm stuck in the loop of doing one ludum dare then missing the next two so I think I'll be in

Good one!

Come up with an idea from my life experience in the last 3 months, that's gonna be funny and "stuck in a loop", I'm on it!

Ten years!

I realized I've been doing Ludum Dare since 2010.

2010!

I guess I am really stuck in a loop?

ASCII graphics, YAY!

No, this theme is not that bad! From rollercoaster loops to using FruityLoops, Looping Louie to the film "Loop"... Me just doing a GAME LOOP...

ЛД-47 皆さん,LVDVM・DAREへようこそ。 Давай!

Really

Too many of y'all must of seen tenet recently. Off to brainstrom

I want to do pixel art!

I recently started an online pixel art course and I want to do some simple sprites for your games. Reply if you are interested.

I'm in for a loop!

A bit late but I'm in for it! It's my first ludum and I'm solo. Hope some idea come to my mind son hahaha

EDIT: Sadly I had some personal troubles and I had to quit this time, see you next LD!

Fine, I'll try

As long as Ludum Dare 48 promises to have an actual good theme bc the last two have been so cliche and boring. Getting ready to have to judge a million time glitch games

I'm in

I've got an idea and am ready to start.

I'm in!!!

Welp time for my 15th consecutive LD, forgot to do an I'm in post before so here it is, hopefully I make something cool :)

Tools:
Unity 2019.4,
Rider 2020.2,
CSP/Aseprite/Affinity Photo,
Beepbox probably

GL all!!

I'm in...I think

I have an idea so I'm gonna see how far I get with it.

Second time doing this, let's go!

My first experience participating in Ludum Dare was fun, so I'm back. "Stuck in a loop" didn't sound interesting at first, but then I got a funny idea, so I'm in!

Last time I didn't use a game engine, which was fun because of the added difficulty. This time I want to try making something with more gameplay, so here's my new toolset: - Engine: Godot - Art: Paint.net - Audio: Audacity

I'll post more updates when I have stuff to show.

Good luck to everyone else, I'll be looking forward to playing all the games!

Disappointed But Ready

Highly disappointed the theme wasn't Deja Vu x 10 but that's ok! We will begin! I got some ideas this time around!

2d artist/ pixel artist needed

We are 5 random people who participate a other jams and we're looking for 2D Artist or Pixel Art Graphic e.t.c. Add me or write a comment.

Starting off strong!

Ludum Dare begins. We grab our markers and boards, minds bursting with creativity. We're feverishly scribbling, ou-

"Mom, I want to watch Daniel Tiger." Our beloved son has intruded upon our creative domain. The minutes tick by as we painstakingly negotiate his entertainment. After interminable delay, he leaves.

-r minds conjuring up fantastic dreams and ideas. With precision we cut them down, select one, and begin refining. It's alm-

ring the phone goes off. It's the school with a weekend announcement. We hurriedly silence it.

-ost there, but the idea needs some more work. How does the mechanic fit with the theme? How do we keep the scope tight enough? With the idea maturing, we turn to-

ring the phone goes off again. The school, with another weekend announcement (seriously, can't you just e-mail?)

-wards developing the minimum viable product. We carefully meter out the art assets and mechanical complexity. Our minds are racing with unrealized potential, but we must be diligent and keep it in check. Our time will pass soo-

ring another phone call. sigh We call it a break. It's almost dinner time anyways. I stand up and head to the kitchen, balancing nutrition with ease of cooking - it is a game jam weekend, after all. In the distance my son can be heard - "Daniel Tiger's gone off!" ... We had better keep our scope extra small to start off with.

Anyone care to share any ideas?

Other than thinking the people who voted this up deserve a slap, I'm at a complete loss here. There's going to be loads of groundhog day ideas or other variations of having to loop until you find the exit condition.

I'm thinking of maybe a horror thing where you're stuck on The Loop (e.g. an underground railway, etc)

If you're looking for inspiration...

In a strange coincidence, this summer I have designed a game that would be a perfect fit for this theme! I can't resist to share it with you if you're looking for inspiration :

Timeloop is a game where you play futuristic soccer against your past self(s)!

timeloop_gameplay.gif

You'll control a blue robot who have to push the green ball into the goal to score points. Move with D-Pad and press button to Dash. Sounds simple? Well there is a catch: the whole game plays inside an endlessly repeating timeloop!

Every 6 seconds, the timeloop will reset the game. Your previous avatar will turn red, and it will move exactly like you did during the previous timeloop. You will play as another robot, always in blue. Up to 8 robots can play at the same time: your current avatar, and 7 of your previous incarnations. So, in this game you'll face the ultimate opponent: yourself!

You can get the game from here: https://drludos.itch.io/timeloop

I hope this may help those looking for inspiration.

Anyway, good luck everyone for this compo!

Idea set! Let's Do this!

Got my idea an hour into the jam. That is a personal best. Have not entirely decided if I am going to do the compo or the jam still but will see when I decide to call it a day! Hope everyone has a great jam!

3 ideas and closing for today

I have 3 ideas, I don't know if good ones or bad ones yet. Now I'm going to bed, it's 1 a.m. in Spain...

Here's my game idea

This game is about you're a game developer, you are participating a game jam called "ludum dare" and the theme is "stuck in a loop", then you decide to make a game about a game developer participating a game jam called "ludum dare" and the theme is "stuck in a loop", and that game developer decides to make a game that a game developer is participating a game jam called "ludum dare" and the theme is "stuck in a loop"...

Ship it

Next theme please

The War of the Hamsters

This Ludum Dare will be the war of hamsters in wheels... or groundhogs in time.

Already have a top idea!

A semi idle rogue like game with ramdom generated mini dungeons where you manually walk through but the combat is automatic. Everytime you finish the game you get a rebirth making your heroes stronger. The further you go the bigger and harder the maps but you always face the same doom.

[amgery theme complaining noises]

"Stuck in a loop" was not one of the better themes of the lot. Luckily, it wasn't one of the worst themes I've faced (e.g, the losing theme You can't save them all, or LD38's A Small World), but it's certainly not ideal. Luckily, I do have a plan going forward - presuming I can get some of the fiddly maths worked out in a reasonable timeframe, I'll be making a game more or less about my constant loop of lost homes in NMS that've all been claimed by various generation resets, because woop that's definitely not an overzealous goal for 72 hours. A small galaxy fulla planets and procedural generation, with actual newtonian physics a-la Kerbal. Though no worlds will ever remain your home long enough to really enjoy on account of the random regeneration-wipes, you'll at least get to have some fun swooping about in actual orbits and the likes.

If getting that working does not happen within a reasonable amount of time, then I'll dump the idea and make a runner about being on a literal loop-de-loop or the likes that's slowly falling apart, because that'll be pretty cheap & easy, maybe even on the level of being doable within the remaining Compo time period.

Best of luck to all the rest of you who're gonna try and stick with the jam in spite of the bad theme. Know this: your struggles are valid, and you are not alone. Every jammer has been here before, and will be again - all you can do is push forwards, and failing that, put your jam time to good use working on another project that's meaningful to you. Even if you hate what you end up making, or simply cannot come up with an idea, don't let that stop you from being productive - I'm assuming my main goal won't actually be doable, but getting the maths working for double-precision floating origin support w/ Newtonian physics will be vastly helpful in one of my other projects, so if the final result is just a tech demo with a single motile planetary system of grey spheres, I'll consider that a personal victory even if it goes Unfinished on the LD site.

  • edit note: it was LD38 that was A Small World. there is unfortunately no good way of making a Hugely Unpopular President sequel with Stuck In a Loop, which is a shame

well...

I hate the theme, but what else is new, sorry to whoever suggested it. I've got an idea that is stupidly simple, but for this LD, I wasn't going to try and make anything mind-blowing, just trying to make something to test how well I've learned Unity (I usually do the design and aesthetics, but not this time, it will be lucky to have sound effects or music even).

Progress already

Since i have chosen such a generic and basic idea i have way more time of polishing it and tweaking the gameplay

Ludum Dare 47 Kick-off

It's been a little while! I really enjoyed doing the compo a couple of years ago - sound design gets a lot more interesting when you can't rely on your libraries. I've had a couple of thoughts for what I might do this time:

1) Groundhog Day

I'm fairly sure this is what sprung to mind for most people when they first saw the theme. You have a limited amount of time in the game before everything resets, at which point all you can bring forward is the knowledge you've gained in previous rounds. Perhaps you're trapped in an abandoned mansion, and on one round, you solve a puzzle that gives you the code to a safe, so that in the next round, you can open it, retrieve the key that's inside, and escape the room you're in. (Ooh, an escape room, there's a thought.)

2) Bungee Cord

Instead of having the entire game state revert, only the player position is reset after the time limit. Imagine a maze in which you only have 30 seconds to get to the exit, which isn't enough because it's a long and winding path. Now, imagine that you can take a secondary route in your first round to push an obstacle out of the way, opening up a shorter route to the goal.

3) Derailed

You're on an out-of-control train. Thankfully, there are no cliff edges anywhere in sight, and the track is in a loop. You need to lean out and press switches in order to change the junctions so that the train takes a different path.

I'm leaning more towards 1 or 2. I really enjoyed the 3D work and horror aesthetic I did last time, so if I can lean into that, I will.

We're in (kinda)!

We're in and (almost) ready for the jam! Just keeping brainstorming and stuff. Hope we'll find something inherent with the theme...

Stuck in a loop "idea" the second

still no perfect ideas but the person who is doing music for me said about making drum loops and i thought keyboards and it came together as this idea in my head.!

IDEA2.png

please say if you like this btw.

oh and the big probblem with this is that not all keyboards are layed out at all the same so it would cut out a lot of the player base for this game so I'm erring ageist this idea.

Made a good start

Decent idea in the works, which has already birthed a nice little sprite and some lovely code that doesn't have very visual output yet. Here's the sprite:Mid_House.png

I'm stuck inside LD

Joining this LD with the intent to go back to my roots creating a game without any game engine associated.

I'll be using: - C# in net core with SFML.Net - Aseprite for the visual art - Bosca Ceoil for music - sfxia for sound effects

I hope you all get stuck 😜

Edge of tomorrow

a decent movie with the exact same theme (but without Bill Murray) al-filo-del-mañana-edge-of-tomorrow05.jpg

We've got our scope!

We managed to find a fun twist on the theme that isn't groundhog's day. I'll share more when we've got some content ready. For now, I thought I'd throw out some of our cast-off ideas for those that may be a little stuck. Hopefully they'll help stir your creative juices!

  • The loop is a hangman's noose, you must escape it
  • The loop is repeating musical bars, the notes are platforms you must jump between
  • Frozen bubbles you're rolling inside
  • You have a compass to navigate with, but it leads you in a circle
  • Infinite mirrors
  • A pacman-esque looping maze
  • You're surround by a loop of enemies that circle you. Push them into obstacles or have to dodge their attacks as you navigate
  • You're married, trapped forever by the loop on your finger

Keep jamming, everyone! Look forward to seeing what you come up with!

No Water

Starting the jam off with no running water.

Not a fan of the theme, feels fairly restricting.

Came up with an idea that is loosely in theme so guess I'll run with it.

Brewing

Still thinking on the theme and direction.

I DONT think i CARE

Why do people spend their precious time on writing stuff like "I am in", "I got an idea", "I divorced my wife". stop, just stop...

tenor.gif

An idea kickoff

So when are YOU stuck in a loop? When you're browsing social media!

I might be on to something...

Spent an hour brainstorming, had one idea that might be great, but would probably take a ton of work. Had another idea that I thought I could prototype the core mechanics in a half hour, so, 45 minutes later here we are!

http://pink.thesilentb.com/ld47/40minutes/

Think it'd work?

I'm thinking biplanes avoiding things and dodging through structures or space ships dodging asteroids.

Great, You worked all week but now...

So unity was on its best behaviour all week. I thought it loved me... Now I'm reinstalling it in hopes it'll OPEN.

Finally, an idea!

It seems like every year somehow the winning theme is one that almost everyone hates. I don't love this one, because it feels like we'll get a lot of really similar games, but I'd love to be proven wrong! It's taken a while, but I think I finally have a solid idea - I'm going to be adapting the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. (I have been working on a project set in Ancient Greece almost all year, so it's on my mind a lot these days.) Surely maze generation isn't too ambitious for a 72-hour jam?

LD 47 - my first ideas

Okay, my ideas for the story are kinda generic and non-original. So I have more time to learn new tools. The theme is not the one I wanted... But I've got some ideas.

My ideas - 12 minutes - Infinite runner - 50 first dates - driving the same racing course again and again - Loop and you are pushing into it next carts - merge X game style - a knot is a loop - adding new knots to a rope - electric circuit

I'll take a nap for a couple of hours now. After I'll choose the right idea, game engine, and start with coding.

No flipping way.....

Someone already won the game jam, bro 2020 sucks!

Frog Knight Game

I am making a game about a frog training to be a knight by training in a big wheel. A literal loop! Bwhahahahahahahaha.... spinny frog.gif

Mad Stream Over

After only knowing of the event 30 minutes before starting, not bad so far.

Question about Unity

Can I use ProBuilder in unity for my jam entry. Probuilder allows you to model in unity and create prototype levels. Also, unity comes with a grid texture for prototyping. Can I use this texture just for prototyping. Thanks in advance.

Newton's law of universal gravitation

ldGif1.gif Got an idea before the jam to do something gravity related, and the theme fits well enough (An orbit is like a loop right). So here's the gravity equation implemented in Godot. Now to think of some gameplay..

I think I have an idea

I think it's fun to build

I hope it's fun to play too

I'm back for LDJam 47!

I'm glad I didn't miss this one. I'm already cooking some good ideas that fit the Theme Stuck in a Loop :p

Tools I will use: * Unity * Visual Studio * Photoshop

Good luck to all! ♥
