Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

Theme Suggestions

I think we’ve all gotten sick of the “Backwards” sort of suggestions, which are ironically probably the most common thing in the slaughter. And we’re sick of suggestions that are too meta.

I’m sorry if you see “Reversing the “Reversing the Paradigm” Paradigm” once the theme slaughter starts. That’s entirely my fault. Also Snowkittens.

Am I in? I don’t know. I’ve thought I was in for a lot of Ludum Dares but it’s never panned out. This time, I’m going to make a game before so I don’t have to relearn my engine of choice the day of.

You’re kinda contradicting yourself. If such themes are the most common thing, most people are not sick of them (assuming there is no big bias in people favoring these themes also posting more themes than those who sick of them). Also it’s not a good idea to speak for everybody.

If people vote for what they like, we could say that the theme we get is the most liked theme on the list.

Maybe most people are okay with these themes, but there seems to be a very loud group of people in the IRC channel that always hate all of the themes. I’ve almost never heard someone say they liked a theme, but then again, probably most of them don’t care enough.

I’m in!

In for yet another Ludum Dare!

Since my games are always pulled down and limited due to the fact that I can’t make art, I’d be happy to team up with an artist: Leave a comment and we can make something great for LD 37. :)

I am in!

I wiil try to make a 2D game with a friend using

  • Unity
  • Gimp
  • lmms
  • paint.net
  • BFXR

And other software

I’m in!

I’m in for my second LD! Here’s to a smooth transition to the new site!

Ill be using:

  • Unity
  • Blender
  • Gimp
  • Audacity
  • Maybe a music generator or normalmap generator

I’m in and looking for a creative partner!

Hey Everyone!

I’ve done the Ludum Dare compo three times before. This time I’d love to try the game jam with someone who’s passionate about art and game design. I’m a programmer/designer and have gotten top 100 fun and top 200 overall in both of the last two Ludum Dares. If you’re interested in working with me, leave a comment! I’m in the PST time zone.

Browse the Ghosts of LD Past

Howdy folks,

as you’re all typing up your “I’m in” posts and preparing mentally for #37, why not check out previous entries in my easy to use LD Games Browser!

dtbb

I’ve written about it before but since last time I added the games of all LDs going back to #15. Pick an event and search for some stuff. Type away to search and be inspired!

Remember:

  • Instant full text search for quick filtering and browsing!
  • LDs 15 through 36 included! (pre #15 were dark, dark days)
  • A UI and colour scheme that will make any designer cower in fear!
  • Completely static site so it costs me basically nothing! Yay!
  • It’s open source! Zoink (uses TypeScript)
  • *cough*platform classification is based on some reasonable heuristics, it’s good overall but mistakes happen, sorry!*cough*

The site doesn’t load for me :-( Looks interesting!

Wadda you know, I’m in. Looking for a partner

I’ve been making games for years, but this is only my second LD. My last game wasn’t very good, because it was back when I still used python. My tools are:

-C++, SFML and Code::Blocks
-Aseprite
-Sfxr
-Sunvox

Anyways, looking for someone to work with. Not any skill in particular is needed, I just want to work with someone.

Hi there! I’ve tried to enter the contest on my own but I never really get arround finishing a project or commiting to it. I really think working first with someone who can organize and ask from me can be really benefitial. I’m not really a master of anything, but I get arround pixel art, Aseprite, and simple tunes, Musagi. I’ve been learning to code in C# but nothing too fancy. If you wouldn’t mind a minion hit me up, but don’t feel forced to “hire” me. This time I’m submiting something even if it’s awful. ^^

Can’t wait for the keynote :D

That’s pretty much it, I’m super pumped for LD and I hope everyone has a box in their head where they’re storing up creative energy for Dec. 9th!

**Public Alpha Test:** Welcome

Hello, and welcome to the Public Alpha Test.

I highly recommend reading the rest of these posts, but in case you run in to problems, I wanted to make it clear how to get in touch.

Contacts

  • My Twitter: https://twitter.com/mikekasprzak
  • My E-mail: http://ludumdare.com/compo/contact
  • Discussion Thread (until Comments go live): http://ludumdare.com/compo/2016/11/28/were-runinng-ludum-dare-37-on-ldjam-com/

Hey, I'm new

If you're new to Ludum Dare, welcome! We don't have a rules page handy on the new site, but essentially we're running an event just like we used to:

http://ludumdare.com/compo/rules/

We might be a little late starting the voting, but it should be a standard Ludum Dare event.

What should I do?

Take part in the Theme Selection. New rounds every few days!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/37/theme/

Where are my old games?

Next year we'll be migrating the data over. For now we've reserved your username, but your data isn't here yet.

This year, the focus is just on running an event here. April 2017 is our 15th anniversary, so I want to get one event in the can before the big celebration. :fireworks:

Why can't I log in to my account? I thought you reserved it?

No no, we reserved your name. You still have to create an account. This just means when you do create an account, nobody but you can take your name.

Other Links

My apologies, but I don't have time to manage the usual addon threads (they are becoming features, but not this year). Still, here are some threads you can check:

Also, my apologies again, but I wont be running a Warmup Weekend (not enough of that code is ready).

Thanks everyone!

I AM IN

I wanted to wait for the new site to be up before this post.

However… I am too impatient.

I am very excited for this one. Hopefully, I will be making a simple 3D game, with some sort of model loader. As always
I will be making the engine during the 48 hours.

What I will be using:

Code:

  • Typescript
  • HTML5
  • WebGL
  • The WebGL Reference card, and possibly other tutorials
  • Visual Studio Code
  • WampServer – (to host a local server during development)

Graphics:

  • Photoshop
  • Autodesk Maya

Sound:

  • SFXR
  • FamiTracker
  • Possibly the sound editor in Pico-8 (which you should get…. Right now!)

I am very excited for this one. Partly because I have never made a full web game before.

However, I am fairly confident as I have gotten my head around typescript for the most part, and have been using OpenGL for a long
time and WebGL is not that different.

I actually thought the Ludum Dare was in 3 weeks, but apparently it is just under 2. So thats great!! 😀

Thanks for being an awesome community, and a super big thanks to our god Mike.

-Ned Boulter

EDIT:

After spending the whole of this Saturday battling with typescript and modules, and confusion.

I have decided to do the Ludum Dare in C++, this is slightly easier, as I am more familiar with c++.

However it will definitely still be a challenge!

I will be using OpenGL, Glad, LoadPNG, OpenAL soft

I’m In (so far)

Hopefully, I am not jumping the gun by saying “I’m In”.  A lot happening on a personal/family level, and I hope to have a bit of fun doing some gamedev.

My tools of choice:

  • Unity
  • Paint.net
  • Audacity
  • bfxr
  • Otomata

Wallpapers?

Are there going to be any wallpapers for the upcoming LD? I still have the one for LD35 as the background of my screen, so I’d like to be up to date :) Thanks!

Wallpaper – Ludum Dare 37

It’s kinda fun to make those :)

Thank you!

We are in! For a second time as a team of 4.

BarkerGames is in again, like last time it will be:

  • Justin Barker (Art, Programming)
  • Nathan Barker (Programming)
  • Ryan Barker (Music, Playtesting)
  • Jeremy Gohier (Programming)

Sadly this time a few of us can’t participate on the last day, but we should be able to create something cool anyways.

Tools:

  • Unity 2D
  • Visual Studio
  • Anvil Studio (music)
  • Inkscape (art)
  • Not sure on sound effects yet.

PS. As a possible bonus, our brother Ricky Barker has expressed his interest with helping as well, so he may join in too.

Good luck everyone!

It’s been a while, also…I think I’m in…

So, too much has happened since last time I was here, and quite frankly, I’d rather not go into all those details…

I have been working on my projects quite a lot, still… (something that my github should reflect)

So, as for my participation in this LD, it will probably be exclusively graphics design. I don’t plan on coding this time, simply because my game library needs some TLC, and I can’t be bothered to spend prolonged periods of time trying to do that. Also, I’d like to improve my graphics design skills. That said, I’ll probably be teaming-up with one of my friends this time. I may do this for a few runs, regardless of how much more I get done on my library.

That’s all for now…

If everything goes right, I’m in!

Last time… Last time… I didn’t do it… I believe I… have a plan?

So, Ludum Dare 37 starts DEC9. I will try doing some coding (or at least concept-making!) I’ll have the higher end of Sunday…. and… oh no..

I may have school that monday! And all I’ll have is the lower end of Monday. If I am lucky, I’ll have 1 or 2 hours on Monday… I hope break starts by then! 😛

We’re in!

We are miniwave! We will have:

DragonFyZex(Brandon Li) Programmer

ThatGamerAbraham(Abraham Gonzales) Artist

This Guy Can’t Decide His Name(Aaron Lam) Landscaper, Music

Tools:

Visual Studio 2017 RC Edition

SFML 2.4.1

Aseprite

Tiled

LMMS
