What happened to the rating system?

Hey there,

So this year i made a preeeeetty bad game (Here is the link btw: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-36/?action=preview&uid=49998)

so i expected to see some soul crushing ratings and some comments. Then i noticed that only one person actually commented on my game (the other one was a friend of mine).

At first i was confused but then i realised it: The rating system disapeared!

I have no idea why it is gone but i know that i want it back. It made LD special to me because i could see how good my game idea was and where i could improve. But now it is gone and nobody plays other games because there is nothing to do. It has no meaning.

My question is: Why did it get removed?

Also: Could we get it back please?

Ludum Dare being Ludum Dare and Unity being Unity...

Well, i just got really frustrated over my raycast platforming controller not working as intended... Turns out the new Unity Beta version i was using was causing a problem. Switched back to a more stable version aaaand it's gone. (As in the errors were gone)

So here's a friendly reminder: make sure that you are using something stable befor entering a competition ^^

I, Giorno Giovanna (not my name), have a dream...

And that dream is to have my game played in a "best of ludum dare 43" kind of youtube video! (And ending up in the top 100 jam entries but i don't want to ask for too much, hehe ^^)

So come check out my game "Not-So-Nicer-Dicer"! A difficult puzzle platformer with light story elements! (BTW: If you leave a comment it's highly likely for me to check your game out if you still need ratings or just want feedback :) )

Opinion on new starting time

I want to bring up a little discussion on the new starting time: In my opinion, this new time is even more unfair for Europeans then the original times.

Let me explain: The last ludum dare started Saturday at 3:00 AM here in Germany (UTC +1) which - at first - sounds pretty bad. But if you consider sleep schedules (let's say i go to bed at 00:00 AM and wake up at 06:00 AM) i'd only loose 3h of work time that day.

Now with the new schedule, if i go to bed at 00:00 AM to not completely destroy my sleep schedule, i loose 6h at start which is twice as much.

And even if i shift my sleep schedule to 04:00 AM to 10:00 AM, i'd still loose a lot of productivity due to me being up so late.

Maybe i'm missing something but that doesn't sound more "Europe Friendly" to me. What do you guys think?

EDIT: I agree that it’s impossible to find a good starting time due to the global nature of this event. But i think it’s strange that this change was explicitly called a “EU friendlier time”

EXPLOVATION (and why tool-development matters)

Our ld48 jam entry is called "Explovation" (Explosion + Excavation + Exploration). It's a platformer game about...well, explosions!

This year, we put a LOT more effort into polishing and providing content instead of having an overly ambitious scope like in the previous jams.

By spending the first 1 1/2 days to properly plan out the project and building tools (e.g. a level editor) we where able to: - Handcraft over 15 unique level segments that feature some proc-gen as well! - Handcraft over 20 unique bomb explosion patterns!

So, from a dev. standpoint I'd call this jam a success. Now YOU need to help us to make it a jam success as well!

Go and PLAY & RATE the game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/explovation! Front-Image.png

We're also pretty active on here and play and rate games. So leave a comment with some feedback and chances are high that we'll check your game out as well :D
