LD32

My First LD!

This one is going to be my first Game Jam and I’m looking forward to it. I think I have a pretty interesting idea for the theme. I’ll be using Unity3D and C# for this as that’s what I’m most experienced in, as for Music I have no idea yet. I’ll use Paint.NET for my art. Good luck guys!

Words are power…

FirstGif
This is how far I’ve gotten today. Not had loads of time to play with it but I have some interesting ideas for it. Good luck to you guys!

EDIT: if the .gif doesn’t play try clicking on it.

pretty interesting!

To die or not to die, that is the question

DIESHOOT
I recently added the enemies and how they react to my word bullet, it’s done via regex so it’s not perfect.

If the gif doesn’t play try clicking it.

I’m just that attractive..

Chasing

Click on the gif if it doesn’t play.

In other news they will now explode! There are certain enemies which always explode (Bright Red). I’m also adding brutes who will rage and try to kill you, so it’s starting to shape into an actual game…

Loving my first Ludum Dare so far, Good luck guys!

Word Gun is Finished

Screenshot

My game word gun is now up, please give it a rating and a comment. I unfortunately didn’t get as far as I wished due to some unforeseen occurrences (looking at you git) (and you, social life). Despite problems I did enjoy the experience.

To summarize my game is about typing a word and using that as your weapon, there’s only a few words at the moment though ‘die, explode, rage’ with don’t and not. I used a regex for the word detection.

I’m fairly happy with how it went considering that I’m only 13.

You can vote for my game here.

Words To Kill

Hi guys and/or gals,

I’ve finally found some time to work on some new features in my Ludum Dare 32 entry, Word Weapon. The basic idea is that you type words that will have an effect on an enemy. I was wandering if anyone had any ideas about some words and their effects on the enemies or some enemy types.

LD33

Obligatory I’m in

I always seem to be away from my main machine during an LD, but I have a decent laptop so this shouldn’t be a problem. The tools I use will depend on the theme and complexity of the game I design but here goes:

Engine:

  • Unity 3D
  • or
  • SFML (C++ Libary)
  • or
  • GameMaker

I’d be tempted to use MonoGame but the content pipeline is 64 bit and I mistakenly installed 32 bit Windows onto my laptop

Art:

  • Paint.NET for sprites

However I tend to use primitive shapes and blocks so my art will probably be nothing fancy

Music:

Not really sure about this one, I’ll probably use whatever I can find and get my hands on some premade stuff..

Distribution:

I’ll probably make a page on GameJolt, the platforms supported will depend on the engine I use

Changing ‘Engine’

I’ve decided I’m going to have a go at using OpenTK, which is a OpenGL and OpenAL wrapper for C#. This may end horribly which is why I’m going to go for the jam, for the extra time. I’ll probably use simply lines and colors for the graphics but I may try using some sprites

Although I may just give up and fallback to using Unity if I’m too lazy or have a more complex idea

OpenTK ‘Engine’

So I’ve spent the last hour working on an engine in OpenTK, it’s probably what I’m going to use for the jam, but please feel free to use it, even though you’re probably much better off using something like MonoGame.. or any other engine for that matter

Good luck to you all!

I’m .. going to sleep

So it’s 2:21am in the UK and I have a basic idea to meet the theme (even though I hate the theme and how the hell did it get picked *rage*). Despite not liking the theme this should be fun, good luck peeps!

Given I a basic idea I think it’s probably a good idea to get some sleep, I know I won’t, but I’m going to at least try

Forgetting Equipment..

I managed to forget to bring a mouse with me… The laptop’s trackpad drivers don’t seem to work for anything other than the basics so I’ve been forced to use this solution for zooming in  in unity:

Click and hold the “Alt” button.

Right-Click and drag with your mouse/touchpad.

But I have a fairly decent idea and with some good sleep I’m looking forward to it

For those without an idea for a theme

So I have an idea I’m pretty happy with but for those still stuggling, I had an idea. It’s essentially a tower defense game where you’re the ‘monster’ attacking the towers? Feel free to use it if you want to

We had the same idea and almost went with it. Just felt like it had been done before.

Monster Factory

MonsterFactory-Dev1

*It’s a gif, you can click on it if it doesn’t play*
My idea is you create a monster by selecting limbs, I admit the art doesn’t look that monster-y but I’m not good at art and it’s the best I could do…

Now to move onto actual gameplay! Woo. Nope. No ideas. Shoot. Ahh shooting. <- Good idea brain

Unity is failing me :(

I may not be able to complete this jam :(

Unity has decided to refuse to let me load a new level, it freezes when I do. The load level is called on a 2d collision. As it freezes there’s no error messages and the editor log doesn’t seem to have anything helpful. Anyone experienced this? Googling returned Unity 4 results and none of them helped. I’m using Unity 5.1.4 Personal Edition

Did you try closing it down, delete the Library folder and reopen?

LD35

Wot i haz dun

Yo, I’m not thaat happy with my idea, it doesn’t feel that original but it is simple so I’m hoping to make it feel rather polished unlike my other LD attempts (which both broke in the last day!!)

LD35-1

My idea is basically that you have multiple shapes that can resize and move and you can switch betweeen them to get to certain areas. I’m going to add colours to each shape and have different collision conditions for each colour

Then I need sound and level design

Good luck!!!

Ludum Dare 37

I CAN COOK

So I haven’t had much time to work on my game, however I have got some basic mechanics working.

My idea was to make a cooking game where you move ingredients around and have to cook them but not burn them. It’d be a little hectic but fun.

So far I’ve got cooking working, next maybe burning food or combining food, hmmm

Video of the mechanic:
