Ludum Dare 48 April 24–27, 2021

Hello World

I'm in, using my favorite game engine Game Maker Studio 1. I hope for an inspirating theme ! With inkshape, Blender (if i want to made 3d stuff) audacity and other things i'm ready for the compo ! Good luck everyone ! frt.png

Confused

How can Shelter and Garden be in finals again?!

These themes seem so boring yet majority voted for them in the slaughter. Again. I really don't understand that...

NO MATTER WHAT THEME, WE SHALL HAVE FUN!

Guys, let's stop whinning about the theme. Because even if the theme was a "poop" we know we will enjoy another amazing Ludum Dare event!

My theme got selected for voting somehow!

Looks like my theme of Public transport made it somehow, despite making it up fairly unoriginally while in my commute back from work haha!

Either way I'm really excited to make my third 48-hour NES game for this event :)

I Am In For Lucky Number 13!

I am in for my 13th Ludum Dare!

For the past year or so, I've been recreating games using unconventional "Game Engines" on my YouTube Discord Snake Video I think Imma give it a go for my Ludum Dare game too! No idea what I'll use as my unconventional Game Engine yet, but should be interesting!

Watch my development efforts on my Twitch!

I'm in! Once again into the fray.

It has been a while but I'm back for more game development shenanigans. Here's hoping that I haven't forgotten how to make a game happen.

Finally doing it. I'm in!

I've always wanted to take part in game jams but never quite found the... I don't know, bravery? I tend to take forever when doing anything game dev related, I always overdo the scope of the project, and perfectionism usually strangles them to death long before completion. Creating something enjoyable in a matter of days always seemed daunting. This has also lead to a terribly demotivating lack of actually progressing and creating things in general, but no more I say!

I'll finally be taking part this time around. I intend to take things relatively casually, no 48 hour straight crunching and hoping to create something incredible, I just want to make something simple and actually release it for once. If I can accomplish that much I'll consider this a success.

Really looking forward to both my own attempt and seeing the amazing stuff people somehow manage to crank out during these jams.

Looking forward to not failing!

This will be my 5th Ludum Dare, and hopefully my 4th Ludum Dare game, after my previous "failure".

Most of the themes seem good, with a few nice ones, I'm just hoping my creative juices will be flowing with the final theme!

Now all I need is motivation to make a game, instead of just playing them... :)

Looking for a 2D Artist for this jam

If there are any artists out (of any skills level) that want to make a game and you need a programmer, let me know. I'm interested in working with 1 other to make a 2D game for the next jam.

I've done 7 jam games so far. Here's a link to them: https://bernard-bumblebutt.itch.io/

Day #2 of Preparations and Ideas

I just got finished testing my engine and making sure I can create a small project as well as generate the distributable files.

For the second day of thinking up a game idea I'd like to make (irrespective of the chosen theme of course), I draw up a small plan for a box2d pinball table. Its nothing novel or innovative, but it is something I haven't done before.

While I have no experience with pinball, I don't think there is any aspect of the which would be particularly difficult to implement in box2d, and I suspect if you can achieve a good feel for the ball, the pinball should play out nicely. I also like this as a game idea because it would be possible to incorporate a story and progression into the table by associating actions to the bumpers and kickers. A pinball game also means the amount of art is limited to a, albeit large, single board.

I purchased a copy of the great box2d editor R.U.B.E a couple of years ago, so I think the physics aspect should be manageable with a day of work.

So here my single piece of A4 with some notes about what I would concentrate on:

Day #1

DELETED POST

I cant actually delete a post so i just wrote this. I just found out that we should make our own assets.

Looking for 2D Artist

Hello fellow jammers

I am Tahir from Pakistan. I have been developing games on Unity since 2019, and my expertise is programming.

I have participated in previous three Ludum Dare game jams in Compo category but unfortunately due to my poor art skills I couldn’t complete any of these game jams… :( Now I have realized that I must work in a team with full time artist so that I can do what I love to do which is coding.

If anybody is interested in jamming with me as a team member, I would love to have you on board.

Thank you for your attention! :)

Looking for a team!

I did this pretty much every year so the cycle must continue.

If you're looking for a Unity programmer I'm open to anything.

If you're an artist then I am also very open to work with you.

This would be my 7th ludum dare in a row so looking forward to what will come out of it!

Here is my discord: Préda#2026

Looking forward to LD48!

I'm looking forward to it! Last year I did my first ludum dare, made a pokemon-like game and I loved making it! I hope I can make a pokemon like game again this year! :D Will depend on the theme (fingers crossed)

I have a question about the COMPO rules

I have some friends who have never made a game, and who lately are excited to participate in some way. I invited them to participate with me, however they have no availability to commit to 48hrs.

According to the COMPO rules, I must do the project myself.

My question is: It's okay if they contributed some detail to the game. (like drawing a bush, bird, etc. (or an Easter egg))? Or would that be against the rules? The programming, art, sound etc would be mainly done by me, but they would contribute with some detail.

Anyway, I think it would be a good start, to be able to convince them to actually participate in the next one.

Has anyone done something like that? Is everything okay according to the rules?

I'm In!

It'll be my first Ludum dare and game jam ever. I'll be using Unity, visual Studios, and probably a simple 2D art style. Very excited for any cool or weird theme they throw at us. Good luck to you all, and of course, HAVE FUN!

2D artist wanted

Hey I'm Madnukin, let's cut to the chase, I'm a decent programmer (https://twitter.com/MadNukin) looking for an artist for a good time this LDJAM. If you wanna design together we can do that, if you feel like just doodling and don't wanna bother designing then we can also do that! Please don't be afraid to reach out and let's see if we can get this thing working!

I'm in!

Hell yeah I'm in :D after last weeks #godotwildjam I'm all pumped up and ready :D Bring it on, it's gonna be another 'productive' weekend :) !!!

Excited for LD48

48 kinda snuck up on me, wasn't expecting it this weekend but excited none the less. On the bright side though I have been doing a lot of side projects and experiments using Godot so I should be more prepared going into this than I have in previous events. I always try to participate in every LD since I started doing them, and even if I am not able to join the actual jam at the time I always try to make something in a later weekend just to do the challenge. Fingers crossed I'm able to submit this time!
