Ludum Dare 48 April 24–27, 2021

Looking for a team!

I did this pretty much every year so the cycle must continue.

If you’re looking for a Unity programmer I’m open to anything.

If you’re an artist then I am also very open to work with you.

This would be my 7th ludum dare in a row so looking forward to what will come out of it!

Here is my discord: Préda#2026

We're in!

Don't tell anyone we don't know what we are doing.

TOOLS

Engine: Unity

Art: Krita/Blender

Sound/Music: Bosca Ceoil or some sound bytes taken from banging random objects together around the abode.

Source/version control: Itch.io probably

INSPIRATION

Sometimes you just have to put your face in something to get it.

ASTRAL SIGNS

Virgo: Follow your instincts to hide away from the world today, Virgo. Time spent in restorative solitude is key, as the moon floats through lazy Leo and makes no connections with other planets. Take the day off from any major responsibilities in whatever way feels feasible and try to focus on activities that rejuvenate you. The following days will demand ample energy, so let yourself peacefully recover today.

Sagitarius: The universe is giving you the reins today, Sagittarius. Wednesday’s skies hold little cosmic action, making it easy for you to shape the energy of the day in whichever way you see fit. The moon floats through enthusiastic Leo all day, pointing your focus towards the big-picture perspective of your life while simultaneously stirring your need for refreshing travel and education opportunities.

first ld, im in

my first ld good luck everyone

I'm rusty

I'm so exited for this next LD! I didn't participate to a gamejam since LD41! Time fly so fast!

My toolset and brain are a bit rusty, but I slowly clean them up and prepare.

I plan to use

  • Unity 2020.3.4
  • VSCode + all the extension for unity
  • Blockbench for 3D and animation if I make a 3D game
  • Blender
  • Paint.net because I love it :v:
  • bxfr
  • I may try the imitone + ableton combo or use https://pernyblom.github.io/abundant-music/index.html
  • Chronolapse
  • Trello to stay organized
  • Github to share the code
  • Itch.io to host the game

After the rush

And of course, as always, I will stream with Bu on https://www.twitch.tv/tobugis while we test all the other games! I'll post at that time where to suggest game for us to play. This was a major part of the fun in the past, playing all the other games while chatting with the community!

Ok, two days and 16 hours to go, I can be patient... How about you?

Oldtimer shaking it up (I'm in)

I've missed every LD since #42 due to university. But even in the face of an upcoming deadline, I will participate this time. Even if it requires a bit of flexibility.

Instead of pulling up with my battle tested Godot engine, I will work on a physical board or card game. That's a first for me! The focus will be on gameplay, with no time spend searching for music and little on art. So very different to what I'm used to. Super exited to see if I can pull it off.

Have a fun and exciting event. May your creative juices flow freely.

Back for LD48!

Will be entering for the second time, this time planning to do solo for the Compo.

First LD was 47, and we used Unity.

This time around I plan to do a web-based game with either Phoenix LiveView (elixir lang) or PhaserJS, depending on the theme/game idea :]

Combobreaker returning

After skipping LD47 and thus breaking my streak, I am in again for LD48. Normally, I took monday and tuesday off to fully engage into jamming. This time I aim to only use Saturday and Sunday and maybe even submitting to the compo. Knowing me, this probably isn't going to happen and I will use the monday to finish the game and submit to the jam anyways.

Looking forward to the weekend with a smaller scoped game and less stress. :v:

I'm in fellas

Never done one of these before so I'm hoping to be able to set aside some time this weekend to submit a completed project!

Ludum Dare 48 Wallpaper

It seems like there is no wallpaper thread for LD48 yet, but I wanted a wallpaper now, so I made my own!

ld48-wallpaper.png

Little fun fact: I made the background color #484848

EDIT: Because I should, I hereby license the above wallpaper under the CC0 License! (free for all to use)

EDIT 2: I hope that license is okay to use when I used the Ludum Dairy font...

EDIT 3: See comments for portrait version (also CC0)

Looking for programmer/s

Hey all one of our teams programmer had to bow out and now we are looking for another message me if your interested in joining. KingOfNova #9334.

I'm in and I brought backup!

I've previously competed in LD 31, 32, 33 compo and more casually in the 46 jam but this time will be different because LD48 will be the first time for me developing a game with a team of friends! We've spent the last two weekends practicing git, prepping trello boards and taking stock of our collective expertise and honestly I'm super hyped to see what we'll accomplish (or die trying to). Our team of three is made up of a lead programmer, lead artist/level designer and me who knows a bit of many things.

Personally i expect one of the biggest challange to be writing neat code that can be understood by people who aren't me on 10 cups of coffee, merge conflicts in git and getting used to the workflow in Unity as I've personally only used GameMaker Studio for LD. Though Unity was the obvious choice here since everyone in the team has atleast some understanding of it and because it's the engine of choice for our lead programmer.

Our toolset of choice will be: - Unity - JetBrains Rider - Blender - Photoshop - sfxr (jsfxr) - Pen and paper (like actual pen on real paper for sprites and stuff) - Trello - git

I'd love to hear any tips regarding LD as a team or pitfalls to look out for in Unity. Thank you and good luck to you, let's hurry up and wait for the weekend!

I'm in like tie die and Potato à la Hasselbacken.

I'm going to be entering the Jam using my own game toolkit I'm yet to publicly release. I'm pretty excited to give it its first proper spin having just rewritten the original from Flash to be web native. 13 years of off and on development and I'm finally ready to use if for Ludum Dare.

My best Jam entries I've kept the scope small, worked reasonable hours, and got solid sleep so I'm going to stick with that plan. I always like to start a Jam by going for an hour long walk up the hill behind my house and really thinking through the themes and my ideas out in the fresh air.

Have fun everyone and take care of yourself.

My first ludem dare jam

Hello I am a programmer and gamedev. I have done 5 game jams before but none of them a ld jam. I am very excited for this jam!!!

Through the Looking Glass

I have had a rendering problem in the back of my head for over a decade. Never gotten around to solve it - life got in the way.

Yesterday it just clicked in my head on how I could solve it, and with LD48 coming up, I'm hopeful I can come up with a game idea that utilises it.

Like my fifth LD.

Aims on browser-playable game done in Unity.

My brain is tired but I'm in!

I'm a little exhausted from a small game I'm developing but I'm gonna take a "break" and participate in this twice-a-year event. Can't miss it! I'll try to do something very simple and minimalistic so as to avoid exhausting myself even more.

Tools:

Godot

Paint.NET

I'm in!

Hi there,

when I say that I'm in, I mean that I have set aside time for Ludum Dare on the weekend. Due to real life obligations, I only have half of the Saturday and I haven't programmed anything in ages (1995... Not counting several failed attempts at previous LDs), so I can't promise that I'll upload anything. It'll be fun and that's what counts. See you all at Ludum Dare 48 :)

All the best,

Kai

First LD Jam

Haven’t built a game since Flash was still big. Looking forward to learning a lot about modern game development.

Reigniting the Bonfire

/enddarksoulsreference

The last time I made a game, it was October of 2016. I had recently left my job without a job to follow up on (long story), feeling a little down on myself, and just couldn't find the headspace to make anything. I started a new job at the beginning of 2017 and sorta buckled down to prepare myself for this new career. Oddly, my new found friends at this company were all encouraging me to get back in, even offering to start up something with me, to which I was fairly wishy washy on. I just couldn't kickstart that drive.

One of those friends however, has been diving in to making games during the pandemic. We were chatting about his game this week when I saw that LD48 was happening. I pitched it to him and received an incredibly enthusiastic "Let's do it!". So here I am, ready to dive into an experience I enjoyed so much in the past with @systemeffect!

Seems our tools of the trade here are: - Game Maker Studio 2 - Aesprite

I haven't been this hype for building something in a long while, hopefully it sets that bonfire ablaze!

I'm in

I have limited time this weekend but I can't sit the 48th out. Will be doing the jam, I'll be using Blender and Unity. Happy jamming guys!
