Ludum Dare 48 April 24–27, 2021

Obligatory theme voting post

ld48themes.png

I think I could live with any of these themes, but that doesn't stop me from having favorites. Good luck to everyone! 🙂

Obligatory "I'm In" Post

Second LD, first time doing it solo. Gonna aim for the compo deadline so this is gonna be rough! I'll be streaming the whole thing from the start to finish so if you wanna check out what I'm doing please do!

https://www.twitch.tv/dauntlessdevelopment

I've been looking forward to this for months so I'm majorly hyped it's almost here! Have no idea what I'm going to do with any of these themes but I guess that's part of the fun  This will be a good test to see if my Games Programming degree is worth more than the paper it's printed on.

I'll be using Unity and since I'm going for the compo I'll be making every last bit from scratch, so apologies if my soundtrack/sound effects/art is painful :stuckouttongue: I'll see you all in about 34 hours when the fun begins! Good luck everyone!

I am hype.

LD really is the best time(s) of year, I can't wait to make something, then play a bunch of awesome games. I'll be streaming your LD games later once rating begins, excited to see what everyone makes!

We're in!

Well, @syudzius and I are in! :D

We'll use our good old tools:

Let's make some games and don't hesitate to experiment, try new weird things and have fun! It's game jam time, go nuts!

Trying to enjoy this one....

I always look forward to LD but I have really not enjoyed the last few, I get wound up very quickly if I don't have the perfect game idea or at least something as good as I've done before. I'm 99.99% programmer and 0.01% game designer so if the ideas aren't immediately fully-formed I don't really know where to go from there.

If you've watched Pixel Prophecy's latest post-mortem, multiply that by 10 and take away the consolation he has that his suffering will make for a great video!

This time I'm just going to try to plough through like I did with the first 2-3 I entered and the challenge was just finishing the game, not worrying if the idea is going to work out or not, and also going to watch along live with Quill18's stream instead of watching the VOD later. I've always thought I'd just end up making a similar game or stealing one of his discarded ideas but at this stage I don't care :D

First LudumDare

I'm really happy to say I will be attempting my first Ludum Dare GameJam, on my own. Any advice for the jam ? I'm using GameMaker Studio 2

Back again for 48, lets do it

I missed the last 47 jam, but I was in 46.

I've gained lots of more experience and I hope I can make something good!

Using jMonkeyEngine

I wonder if limiting my game to 30 fps is a good choice

Is this a common tactic in WebGL? I did a mockup and it's barely over 50fps so I'm thinking of setting the target to 30fps instead. And it seems okay to me but I wonder if people actually do this here.

In I Am

Really looking forward to the jam! But I will be taking things rather relaxed this time around, as regular work is stressful enough at the moment with a big deadline coming up next week... So I will try to adhere to the following, which might be helpful for others too: - make the smallest game possible, with just one core mechanic, and polish it - in the past, this led to the best game experiences, and polish is the most fun part anyway :) - sleep 7+ hours each night - starting each day fully recuperated is just great and very important - go for a long walk each day - this also helps with thinking about what I'm actually doing and get a little distanced look at things - eat healthy - I always forgot the frozen pizza in the oven anyway... - mix things up a bit - my last few games were all quite atmospheric, adventure-y games, so maybe it's time to go into a different direction (but staying inside that comfy comfort zone is also nice, we'll see :))

As for tools, I'll be using Unity, Blender and GIMP, FL Studio and Audacity.
For some handy extension methods and codebase, I'll use my little UnityLibrary (feel free to use it too!): https://github.com/Erkberg/UnityLibrary.
For listening pleasure, I got this GameDev spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4lNy3f6OXszuObMDC3MOtp?si=d91c6fa89db14bd9.
And the project will be up on GitHub: https://github.com/Erkberg/LudumDare48

Lots of text in this post, so let's end it with a little (clickable) picture of my last entry and cheers to all of you, let's have an awesome jam!

Final Votes for LD48

Capture.PNG

I can definitely work with any of these themes, but a few of them I think would be much more interesting to deal with. I don't want to start thinking too much about any one theme until the votes are done, but I have a couple ideas for my +1's

I am in!

It has been a really long time since I participate in Ludum Dare. My last LD was 15th. I have to say I am excited :).

We're in!

Snappy Sloth and DaaWeeD are teaming up for this edition!

We'll use for the first (really) time Unity for the code, and the game will be in pixel art :)

Good luck to everyone!

Title Goose Team assemble!

Yet again Title Goose Team participates in Ludum Dare.

This time we use Unreal Engine 4, why? Because we like challenges! Considering the fact, that it'll be our very first 3D jam game!

LD38's Zen World is coming to Steam!

Hi! It's been a long journey, but I'm finally close to releasing my LD38 game formerly named "Zen Demiurgy"! borderless_logo.png Zen World is a strategy game that can be as relaxing as you want it to be. Build a calm and colorful landscape with hexagonal tiles, matching their borders to each other, collect valuable boxes, and explore the tech tree.

Check it out on Steam, and don't forget to wishlist, it means a lot to me! Thank you!

What an anniversary to make that announcement, also. It's been 10 LD's already!

I'm in

It's been a bazillion years since I've attempted a game jam... but there's no time like the present to get back into it, so I'm in!!
