Ludum Dare 48 April 24–27, 2021

My idea!

I'm going to be making a little "Downwell" type game. Here's a little screenshot! I've got movement feeling good, and lots of particles! This is being made in PICO-8 if anyone was wondering. feeling pretty good about this!! ludumdare48_0.png

Ideas coming together

Simple physics based movement and rotation. Going for a deep sea diving vibe

90 Minutes and the car drives deeper into the canyon...

This was the progress for the night, I will be livestreaming most of the weekend at https://www.twitch.tv/timbeaudet see you again at 6am ET.

Dig, dig, dig: Simple mock-up

A quick mock-up with some old sprites I had lying around that my son made. Going with a much more psychedelic inspired theme digging down into the earth and the sub-conscious. Mushrooms, eyes, fears... Can't wait to see the GFX my team mate is drawing away...

Title screen and name

Got an idea, and a name! Earth receives a mysterious signal from Saturn. They consist of plans for a spacecraft. The spacecraft is built, and it's your job to fly to Saturn in it, and discover the source of the signal.

The ideia - A generic Mining game?

Hello everyone. This edition I want to make something totally different that I am used to doing in game dev. I'm gonna to make a Strategy game.

The idea: A company is contracted to mine in the surface of a distant planet. But in they discover alien life, and now they need to handle the situation while going deeper and deeper.

You are in control of several types of units and need to protect the miner device from attacks of the aliens!

What do you think?

Jamming Deeper and Deeper...

I'm glad to say that we are participating as our team (MiniLuv) for the 3rd time! We already have a concrete idea and this game is already off to a great start. Without further ado, here is our team and tools!

Our Team

Programming and Game Design - Me! (@Bamallama)

Game and Narrative Design - @cbarkinnies

Character and Menu Art - @icyysilver

Background Art - @beeholder

Music - @bgcrausen

Our Tools

Game Engine - It's looking like we'll be going with Ren'Py this time around (I've never used it before, so quite excited!

Art - 90% of the art will likely be done in Procreate on the iPad, with the rest in Photoshop

Music - This one isn't fully decided, but likely GarageBand

We can't wait to share this game, good luck to everyone and hope it's a fun jam!

concept down, implementation to go

Well, I think this is the fastest a game idea has ever crystallized for me! Hopefully I can transform it into an actual game.

A tip: don't be afraid to consider the theme in metaphorical terms! It doesn't have to be a game about digging or something. "Deeper and deeper" could go in so many less-literal directions...

Anyway, I suppose I should mention the tools I'm expecting to use (aside from the Unity):

Libraries: - probably FMOD and the Unity postprocess library

Visuals: - will likely keep them very simple, but might use Photoshop and/or Blender at some point

Audio/Music: - maybe Hookpad, probably Ableton, various VSTs

Misc: - just discovered the site for random color palettes, it's pretty nifty: https://farbvelo.elastiq.ch/

Progress..

(A pending title...)

Progress Update

So made some progress, got some basic player controls down. Got a game plan in mind(sort of on paper), an ready to crack on!

Here is what it looks like.

Happy Death Bullying Game Progress

Preview01.png

All in! Don't you hate when the bully becomes a criminal? As a clever nerd you must investigate while you survive your last week in highschool. That's where im going this game

no title yet.. yikes!

Twitch streaming

Hi guys!

I've decided to stream the whole process in twitch. I just finished the first hour and I'll be back soon for the next part. I hope you enjoy!

We have an idea!

After a couple hours of brainstorming we've settled on an idea. There are going to be two main views, one for digging gameplay, and the other will be something like a computer screen where the story will progress and you can purchase upgrades. I won't spoil anything here about the story idea that we have.

Hopefully we don't overscope too much!

A Little Paper Design before Programming

Once I saw the theme I had a pretty good idea of what my idea was going to be. Still spent an hour trying to come up with anything better just in case. Closest I got was with an idea of a Reigns ripoff where you where the AI of a generation ship flying through deep space trying to keep everyone alive until you arrived at your destination. Decided I would rather go with my original idea instead. I've been reading some about WWA (World Wide Adventure) games which is a genre that I guess basicly only exist in Japan. This inspired me to go with a single screen dungeon puzzler sort of thing. Here is my mock-up for what the playscreen will look like.

LD48 Idea.jpg

I've got a pretty good idea of how everything should work so now I just need to program it all. Also credit where credit is due the actual 9x9 part of this game idea came from a post I saw a few days ago by @lintfordpickle here on this very site

An Idea?

After dropping my first two ideas (one I will never speak of, the other was Jack Handy: The Game), I think I may have an idea. Maybe.

Space is infinite... and full of dangers

In 2057 the United Nations decided to send it's first colony ship to a distant star. The reasoning behind it was quite simple: if the Solar System ever faces total destruction, humanity will survive. Decades later humans explore the Milky Way and as a sole sentient species colonise the galaxy. Some of the colony ships disapear without a single trace... Our game will tell a story of one of them and the great danger it has faced.

Quite lovely, right? Stay tuned and wait for more updates!
