Ludum Dare 48 April 24–27, 2021

Can you tell what it is yet?

I'm trying to avoid looking at anyone else's stuff on the first day - so I don't inadvertently take inspiration.

Good luck!

Made some progress

Drew some character sprites and made some work on the coding! :3c The idea for the game is a randomly generated rhythm game kinda thingy with a computer aesthetic which incorporates the "Deeper and deeper" theme by having the difficulty modes based on places of the internet, getting deeper depending on the difficulty, e.g. "ClearWeb" for easy, "DeepWeb" for normal, "DarkWeb" for hardProgress_00.gif

Some progress already!

I'm happy with how these character portraits turned out ^-^

Movement almost done

CoolStuff.gif

The movement and projectile firing mechanics are very important, so I've spent all this time just perfecting them. I think I'm happy with this for now, barring a few more little 'quality of life' things. If you run through a projectile on the ground, you are propelled forward. If you jump through it, you are boosted upwards. Shooting a wall makes the projectile into a standable surface. All these mechanics are so the player can go deeper and deeper in a large, mostly vertical map.

First real output!

So after my first hour (i know i´m realy late and i just hope i get something finished),

I got some basic art loaded, now the real programming starts, wish me luck!

Finally a very late obligatory "I'm in post"!

One of the rules of making a game in 48 hours is "never, ever, use an unfamiliar toolset". So what did I do? I've chosen to try building my game with Haxe, heap (for 2d graphics) and echo (for the physics).

After some majors setbacks due to me not checking properly what heap.io is actually capable of doing I've finally got something up and running.

It isn't pretty. But required code pieces are in place and I'm ready to continue with LD48! babystepsld48.jpg

You're getting sleepy

You're getting sleepy.

Very sleepy now that you mention it.

Maybe I'll just take a little...zzzZZZzzz SleepySaturdayAM.jpg

My Progress

I got a great idea after I ate my lunch its storyline is ... Im having some issues making the game as i have a 32 bit system and cant run unity's better version with tilemap. If i just had a tilemap it would have been easier creating levels but i wont lose hope. This is my first jam ever and aiming for top 65% but after seeing peoples progress i am thinking i wont even make it to top 90% but its fine because many people couldnt even finish making their game or lost hope in between.

Well gotta get back to work. Good Luck!!

Trying to solo it

Started like 5 hours ago. Wrote the storyline and now busy with artwork. Help :pCF489C93-9922-4342-A360-D02EAD6686B7.png3F341028-4982-46EF-8773-64D605324565.png

Jam feels

I've just started my project for this jam and I just started feeling the recognizable feeling that I get every jam: You finally have a game idea that you like and you feel so excited about it and your head is filling up with cool ideas and things to put on it, but with that comes a lot of anxiety that there won't be enough time for all of that.. Ugh, it's so overwhelming yet so good! Specially since I've had absolutely nothing cool to put my energy on in the last few months. This is refreshing, thanks LDJAM!

Deep Space: Beyond - the Hero

Meet our nameless Hero, who wakes up in an empty, damaged spaceship. He does not remember who he is and what happened. Since the oxygen level is low, our Hero needs to delve deep into the ship, fix the O2 generator and find out what happened to the ship and the crew.

The deeper he goes in pursuit of the truth, the more strange and unnerving the mystery becomes...

Deep Space: Beyond - coming soon!

End of day 1 - some good progress

What I got done: - The idea (the most important part) - Destructible terrain - Procedural generation of that terrain (with ores) - Basic player controller (just copied from my game Chronoclone)

What I still need to do: - Lighting effects (to limit what can be seen) - All the rest of the game mechanics - Better player controller and player texture (not a cube, probably...) - Sound effects and probably music - Digging animations/effects (I'm thinking something like Astroneer's digging tool) - Menu/UI stuff, game loop stuff, etc...
