Ludum Dare 50 April 2–5, 2022

And the prototype is... Done!

The way to is was long and arduous, there were bugs along the way, but it is done! So now a little spoiler with basic UI, he-he. Soon it will be beautiful...

End of Day 2 Progress: submission for Compo done!

Well today went much better than yesterday and I manged to get my entry for the compo finished with the much reduced scope.

Behold Priestess of Larak!

It's something of a proof of concept at this point and has nothing but programmer art. Still I'm happy to have finished something and will be looking at improving it in the future.

For now though it's time for sleep

Say hi to German “Günther”!

Günther really likes to fish and falling asleep while being pulled into a deadly waterfall by dangerous rapids! Can you help him? 😱🌊

character_render.png Friends may call him “Günni” 🤠

P. S. Also be nice to him, his parents are competing at the game jam for the first time! 🆕

Post mortem for my unfinshed game.

Figured it's best that I throw in the towel for this Jam, as I'm really not enjoying myself.

The problem being that, I don't actually like my idea or game and I've hit a wall trying to come up with ways to actually make it fun.

I'd struggled to come up with an idea for the theme, so just went with the first idea I'd had (Old man needs to go to the gym to prolong his life).

I should, have made some prototypes. But I'd never made anthing with 2d sprites before so wanted to spend some time working on those, figured inspiration would strike as I worked.

It didn't unfortunately, but I still learned a lot about making spirtes and animations in Aseprite so the Jam was still a positive experience for me.

Linking the project folder on google drive if anyone wants any bits from it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_lwKRuhMkjqgo3O8Mbp55uKAvDtS8w1t/view?usp=sharing

Looking forwards to playing through everyones games tomorrow!

Closing in on end of day 2

Did a pass on the graphics so the game looks quite a bit nicer now. You can also now lose if Earth leaves the goldilock zone. The problem I've run in to is that the game is just not fun! I'm gonna have to come up with something quick if I'm gonna have a chance at saving this game :constructionworker: LD50/emprog03.gif

done

just need a menu and music and sfxScreenshot 2022-04-03 6.51.42 PM.png

FOUR MORE HOURS OF CRAB

Got a 2nd enemy implemented; a dolphin with seeking bubbles. I think I need to get a few more types added and then I need to somehow implement a way to explain what's happening within the game lol.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has done once I have a bit of breathing time.

FIGHT AGAINST SLEEP!

dinoemsavior/emimage.png I just submitted my game! Yay! Now I finally get to check out all the crazy things you wonderful people have come up with.

My 16th Ludum dare done.

Back in 2014 when I did my first LD I had no idea how to make a game. I had been playing around with LibGDX for a few months without knowing what I was doing.

For many years, since 2016, I have participated with my friend Mathias but this time he wasn't able to make it this weekend so I decided to do the solo compo again for the first time since 2015 which makes this the 16th time I'm doing Ludum dare.

Saturday was kind of bad, I was tired and had a head ache for many hours but got most of the graphic and basic play mechanics done. I also took two breaks from the programming and played around in my DAW of choice Ableton live. And suddenly I had two songs that I could use. One very sad and eerie song and one more happy song.

Sunday have been spent on creating levels, adding start and end screens and also took one more break in Ableton and created an intro tune.

I usually spend three days when doing the jam so it feels strange to be done and submitted already on Sunday evening.

As always it's been a great weekend even if I have felt tired and not having enough energy.

The game is called Grandma and is about saving grandma so she can have a few more days to live.. a very sad theme this time but we are also living in sad and terrible times at the moment so I guess that makes sense.

The game can be found at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/grandma and I can't wait to start to test other compo games :)

Done!

This was my first time participating in the Compo; I didn't get all the features that I wanted but I'm pretty proud to have something finished and playable!!

A Casually Late Start

I wasn't planning on doing LD this time around due to some commitments, but then I had an idea and saw the new casual branch and figured why not?

Already made a fair bit of progress, and I didn't start until 2pm.

ld50_casual1.gif

I'm going to try not to spend more than about 30 hours working on it - which is about how much I spent on my one other LD submission - even if it takes me till next weekend to finish it.

Help With Source Code?

Ok, I've made my game, but this is my first game jam. I have used Unity and I'm uploading the game to itch.io and I want to enter Compo. Could anybody tell me what Unity source code is, where I can find it or how to add it to itch.io? Thanks in advance.

Wildfire Suppression - Progress

Got myself some time to continue working on the game tonight - going to use the "Extra" category due to time limitations.

Added urban tiles today and optimized fire spread. Now there are actual towns to save! Or rather... evacuate, because destruction is inevitable ;) Fire.png

Gone Out West... is here!

Managed to deliver on time. Hopefully without major issues.

Good luck to everyone!
