Was it necessary to spend valuable time making my guy run like Naruto?
Absolutely Not!
Was it worth it???
Yes x 1,000

I don't really like '10' seconds as a mechanic, so I'll be using it to create a premise.
It's October tomorrow, so I guess it's time for Trick or Retreat 3.10
Going to try for a hybrid text adventure this time.

Here's a hint:

Shoot'em up.
Every 10 seconds, monsters spawn.
TADA!
I'm such a great game designer
First evening is over, going to get some shut-eye and finish up the mechanics for my entry "A Blink in the Night" in the morning. Initially I couldn't really think of what I'd like to do with the theme, and I tried a lot of abstract interpretations while brainstorming before settling on a fairly direct reading that I think will put a fun spin on things.
As you can see here, every ten second the sun rises or sets. There are a couple of cameras the player can use that will be explained in a future post, and some small lamps turn on after it starts getting dark out. I'm feeling good about what I have and what I've yet to add!
Short days:

Want to create a fast based shooter game with varying weapons/ enemy spawns. Add some nice music and lil bit of story telling in the hopes of creating a wholehearted game. Wish me luck :/)
You have only ten seconds to deliver your packages, but fortunately you can also reverse time and move backwards, which helps quite a bit.
Weirdly, this is the second LD game I've made that has a sort of 'quantum virtual particle' mechanic to it, lol.

I just spent almost an hour hand-drawing normal maps for a tileset... which occludes everything that shines on it. I have officially wasted more time than I can afford.
I know there is a lot of grief over the theme, I wish there was one that would please everyone. That said, I have faith in the participants in this jam to create something fantastic and innovative! I would like to encourage everyone to build something amazing to share with this community. :) In any case, first game jam here. I am teaming up with a friend from Bounty Mouse Studios, can't wait to show everyone what we come up with.
You can follow me on Instagram to see what I'm up to, although it is a pretty new account. https://www.instagram.com/madbunnylab/
Or check out our Twitter for updates on our jam entry! https://twitter.com/BountyMouseDev

After 6 hours the placement of structures on a grid system is basically finished.

Ok,I can´t join this LD beacuse my wife works and I am home with the kids, but then somthing weird happened. Somthing so un heard of. I LIKE the theme. More then like, I love it. And instantly an idea poped out in my head. So after a serious discussion with myself, I decided that hey, your wife may work, and you have the kids but do you know what? Thera are nights to.
So I will be enetering with my game idea Satellite (placeholder name for somthing great). I will be entering the Compo this time and my goal is to get a finished game, nothing more.
Best of luck to you all, may the code be ever in your favor.
I have an idea, about a laser turning every 10 second - and this time I go for the compo, with only html5 from scratch! I may copy some of my code from here and there, but no big framework now :)

The title for my game is Fight The Darkness. You play as a candle fighting off gouls. As you sling fireballs to slay your foes, you start to loose your flame. Luckily your flame is rekindled every 10 seconds.
I’m already enjoying where the game is at with the this simple idea. I hope to spend the remainder of my time improving the gamplay loop and flushing out the visuals and audio effects.
Here’s what it looks like so far:

In my case, my slow-cooker (crock-pot?) is just done, should have most of the food I need today.

Already have a few ideas, but going to take a walk in the (still) dark next to mull over some more. Afterwards, hop over to my co-conspirator to start in earnest.
Oh, and should you still be struggling with the theme, I got a few ways to deal with that:

There are three 'test' types that can be performed, one assigned every 10 seconds. Finish early to progress faster, but take too long and your robot will start overheating.... !
This is still really early, but happy with progress so far! (That gear was a bit of a pain to get moving...)

The best part so far is that the way I set this up... one of these dudes happened to hit another with a missed punch... and so those two started fighting each other instead. Hadn't even thought about it yet, but it's working out so far.
After a bit work (and having to track down a really stupid bug), it's now a working platformer!

So I don't quite feel like spending my entire weekend right now making a game. I was quite honestly planning on relaxing, but fun got in the way. The plan now is to scope small this time around and get this thing knocked out by Saturday night, submit Compo, and I get a full free Sunday. Can't imagine that plan going awry.
Images so far:
Level 1,
and Level 2.

I suspect my use of the theme won't be the most creative, but this did give me an excuse to make a game I've been interested in, but with a neat twist.
TODO: SFX, Music, Scoring, Pickups, Stage 3, and a menu.
