Ludum Dare 56 October 4–7, 2024

I asked AI a very simple prompt to generate a cover image for our game Derpy

I wanted to see what cover image AI can generate based on a very simple prompt.

I used "low polly derstruction derby gaem called derpy" and yes I misspelled those words in the prompt but I didn't notice.

I was surprised by the result. The cars in the back look a bit janky, but the rest looks pretty good and the text is clean.

I used ideogram.ai to generate the image.

I didn't end up using the image as our cover for the game since it was not made by us, but it was a good experiment.

Anyway try our game if you want to see the final product. PLAY NOW

My second LD entry - Silky Slinger

The past 3 days have been have been quite exhausting but also a lot of fun. There's nothing quite like the rush of getting your game ready before the deadline in those last few hours. In the end, it's always worth it though.

Now I can proudly present my submission for the jam: "Silky Slinger", a 2D platformer where you play as a tiny spider using its spider threads to swing through levels.

First game jam complete!

This was my first (but definitely not last) time participating in a game jam! The 48 hours went by surprisingly quickly.

I made a short narrative adventure game about adjusting to life after your partner mysteriously turns into a tiny creature 🪱

Made in Godot using Aseprite for the art. You can try it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/would-you-still-love-me.

I also recorded the whole development process and will be making a devlog video soon.

Now I'm having a great time trying out everyone else's games; it's fun to see all the creativity!

Are we allowed to patch our game?

Our team is in the Jam catagory and we were wondering if we could patch a couple of bugs out of our game and reupload it. Or if that would be against the rules and spirit of the jam. We won't push anything unless we know for certain!

I did it! I can win my own game xD

Hard at work until the last second sometimes leads to a situation where game difficulty gets away from you. In our game Kinder Guardin' you play as a teacher that has to keep all of her children at bay and prevent them from harm. This is already quite difficult in game.

I can only imagine what it 's like being a teacher in real life :o

Anyway if you could play our game and try to reach this screen too that would be much obliged! If you leave your game in the comments here I'll get around to playing your game as well :D

Crittey now has native Quest and Pico support!

Unity_nszxXRVyW5.png

I always love putting up APKs for my entries whenever I can, and since I just got a Quest 3 recently this was a fun little project.

The best way to play is still hooked up to a PC though, I had to tone down some visuals to get it running (mostly) 90fps...

On Pico 4 it runs a bit worse since it has essentially Quest 3 resolution running an XR2 Gen1 instead of Gen2...

Should be better on the Pico 4 Ultra.

GOOD HUNTING! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/blood-crux

Doing free VR ports for open source projects!

Think your entry is perfect for VR support?

Was it made in Unity?

I will fork it on github and implement VR for you!

This is something I try doing every jam whenever I have some extra time, I'll go over compo entries made in Unity that have their source code up on Github and fork the repo then add VR support to them.

It's mostly just finger practice, seeing if I can pull it off, usually it works out pretty well :)

Are you into weird games?

I would say that our game really fits into the category of strange games. Do you happen to have any weird games to recommend for us to play as well? 😊

Small Problems To grapple with

After getting some rest and working on improving the game page, I feel ready to spread the word about our game

Thumbnail.png

It's a chaotic endless vertical grappling hook platformer where you play as Scroob, a tiny frog trying to escape from the flood. The goal is to get a high score. The score is tracked based on the distance from the water

The art was made entirely by me and I am very happy with how it all turned out. i am also happy with the game itself as it has very little compromises this time.

You can can check it here

CI/CD On Ludum Dare?

A gif to grab your attention.

This time around I used this handy python script to make builds for me and upload them on itch.io each time I commit.

This little thing saved me a couple of hours and it was also very fun having people playing my game as I was making it live on stream. 😊

Sharing it here for everyone to use!
