Ludum Dare 54 September 29–October 2, 2023

i'm in!

this'll be my first time participating in a 48/72-hour gamejam. i've participated in some week-long jams before, but im excited to challenge myself more! my goal is to not overscope my game, something i have a bad habit of doing... im aiming for the compo, but if i miss it, at least the jam is still there!

i'll be using the language Rust and the framework Bevy for making the game, Aseprite for the art, and Beepbox, Audacity, and sfxr for sounds and music!

good luck everyone!

24 hours to go!

I hope everyone has a good night's sleep tonight, because tomorrow is when the grind begins!

Is a addon like Dialogue Manager Allowed for Jam entries?

Hello! I'm new here and this will be my first game jam :) I was wondering if using a addon like Dialogic or dialogue manager is allowed on the Jam, since the rules said that any tool or base code are okay. Or this have to be coded from scratch? I'm a little bit slow so this would be such a time saving.

I missed the slaughter round!

Oh well, I have been sick and not doing anything... Did manage to take a looksie at the final round so... Here it is!Screenshotem20230929-005505/emChrome.jpg

In for the First Time in Five Years

Hopefully I'll be able to shake the rust off. I've entered eight LD jams in the past and built a completed game in five of them. I only saw that another one was taking place this weekend a couple of days ago so have been trying to relearn a bunch of stuff (particularly Phaser) quickly. Wish me luck, I'll need it! 🐲

Art: Clip Studio Music: Garage Band Engine: Phaser Language: Typescript IDE: VSCode

I didn't miss it?

YO! I thought LD was last week and I missed out because of a camping trip!

5 years of doing Ldjams!

I've been doing these for the last 5 years I have participated in every Ludum Dare. This time is no different I am in again! This time my business partner is busy so it's the Compo for me again!

I wish everyone good luck. Let's got this!

Theme Poll update

THEME POLL

Select which themes you voted +1 for and see the live results! This is just for fun and usually doesn’t predict the winner, but I enjoy doing it. It’s a flawed system since it doesn’t consider -1 votes, but again, it’s just for fun.

Welcome new people! We see you!

Good news, less spam! Bad news, new user posts don't make it to the main feed since they aren't trusted accounts yet.

Important announcement (and a little bit of sad news)

Hello everybody, I'm here to drop a very important announcement.

UPDATE TO THIS ANNOUNEMTNCE: Maybe if enough of you show support of giraffes my team can be convinced thank you very much

I will be back, participating in the 54th version of Ludum Dare. Sadly I must also let you know that I'm not 100% sure whether I can convince my team to include giraffes in our game this time around.

Thank you for reading this important announcement. Godspeed to all of you!!

We are in!

Hello there,

We are a French-speaking team of three made up of a developer, a graphic designer and a game/level designer. Following the recent controversies surrounding Unity, we'd like to develop our skills on Unreal and are looking for different profiles comfortable with Unreal 5 to accompany us on this 72-hour GameJam. Above all, we'd like to have as much fun as possible, and achieve results with a smaller scope, but just as effective and interesting! So don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like to know more, or if you'd like to join us

Hello everyone!

@tristan-doell and me, @gawain-doell are back in jam mode. Going to team up for the 3 day jam. We have some silly ideas but I guess we will see what floats come theme announcement tomorrow. Good luck everyone, buckle up, and let's all enjoy the ride!

First Time

Hello! It's my first time joining Ludum Dare. Hoping to have a fun time :D

Back to LD after a year and a half absence

I started doing LD in 2019 and was consistently participating every event (although one of them never got posted because I didn't finish it) and enjoyed so much of it. College has kept me busy but I'm happy to say I'm ready to participate this time around again and am extremely motivated to make something awesome! Gonna try to stream a lot of my process too to help motivate me to keep going!

Greeting

This is my first time ever participating Ludum Dare. I am going solo, I can somewhat draw, making random bs music. Man, this Ludum Dare feels so overwhelming, hopefully I can make a do and have some impacts. I think that this year would be very hard for me to win anything so I will not have high hopes for the prize. My tools to participate would be Java IDE( I build my framework and slap some additional tinkering), Musecore(I have been using it since 2016) and my shitty drawing skills(I can't draw humanoid well so I expect I would go for some kid like doodling). God speed to all. A prototype of what I have done before participating: https://nomanlike.itch.io/16th-floor

Greeting

This is my first time ever participate this. I am going solo. My drawing is not great, my music making is not good also. I don't expect to win or achieve anything. I am using Java IDE to make game(I have a code structure already). Good luck have fun

Creating music

I'm currently looking for a good (free, no ai) software to use for creating music for my yet-non-existent game.

Any recommendations?

From 47 to 54

First time i entered was for LD47, really fun event! Life has gotten in the way but my planning skillz have made it so that i have a free saturday and mostly sunday to do this.

I scored pretty good last time (imo), I hope that I can keep it going with this one!

Looking forward to all the crazy games that will come forth from this.

GL HF!

I'm in!

I find most of the themes exciting but my favorites are Paths, Signal and Salvage. I can already imagine what kind of game I could make on these themes =)

Programs I plan to use:

  • Construct3
  • Photoshop
  • FL Studio

All right, let's make interesting games and have fun!

Any tips

All tips are useful, like how to prepare, when/if to sleep... etc
