Done, once again

Im quite proud this time. Not only did I particiapte in the compo once again but this time I was able to publish a much more finished product, with a menu, sound design, a decent hud and everything.

I would really appreciate if you guys would take the time to do a few runs, and I obviously will do as well for your games :pray:

Now is the time for a well deserved break.

Finished my compo my first finished game(and probably first game ever)

Well it was my first jam , it was an unpleasant journey . i had to fix errors , remove stuff add some , change concepts and watch other participations better than mine by far .

But for the first time i finished a game as small as it can be so i am satisfied despite my disapointment over my work .

don't hesitate to play Bouncing Boxes and give me your feedback i'll take every advice . https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/bouncing-boxes-power-x

PS: for those interested by the source codes , mine is messy but you should understand it .

My First Ludum Dare Game: A Journey of Learning

For those who missed the first part, I'm excited to share that I've successfully finished my very first Ludum Dare game. It may be small and simple, but it's a big accomplishment for me!

A Leap into the Unknown

I had zero previous experience in game development or game design. My journey into Ludum Dare events began when a friend, who is a game developer, introduced me to this fascinating world. Over time, he shared his LD games and popular entries, giving me a glimpse into the creative process. I became familiar with the tools people use to create these games, but I still had much to learn.

The Race Against Time

Just 14 hours into the competition, I found myself troubleshooting my executable file, which was failing to run on other PCs (thank goodness for early checks). Simultaneously, I was racing to complete some planned tutorials. I had to figure out how to create a game menu and grasp the basics of pixel art. I had heard about Aseprite, so I decided to give it a shot.

From Zero to Hero

My experience was limited to completing a small RPG tutorial, which taught me how to create a 2D character moving in four directions and interacting with other elements like enemies and walls. With that knowledge, I embarked on my Ludum Dare journey.

I didn't have a groundbreaking idea, but I was determined to create a game that could be enjoyed for a few minutes without feeling terrible or incomplete.

A Humble Beginning

I may not have achieved all I had hoped for in my small game, but I'm proud that I took the leap and ventured into the world of game development. I learned a lot along the way and gained valuable insights into this creative process.

Gratitude to All

I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the support and advice I received throughout this journey. It's just the beginning, and I can't wait to see where my newfound passion for game development takes me next. Stay tuned for more adventures!

I finished!

I finished the game. I tried to refine it but this time I had problems at home and I couldn't work on it much. I honestly like the idea of the game and find the right feedback. I hope you like it too!

What a rush

Whatarush.gif

I'm done for this time. The game is uploaded and I can't do anything more right now. It's a strange and divisive feeling. On the one hand, you feel a joy and pride at having created something and that the game is out there for the public to see, on the other hand, you see all the bugs and all the improvements that could have been made and if I only had a couple more hours.

On the whole, I am super happy with the days. It was the first time I made a 2D game and it was the first time I made my own graphics, I've previously been a fan of using the standard cube as just about everything for my Compo games.

If you have a minute to spare, play or save the link to my creation Pallet Panic. It makes my soul happy when others play my games and give constructive feedback.

Until we meet again my friends.

I was pretty busy this weekend, but I still managed to put together 10 levels for "Hazel & Hector." Check it out!

I worked so hard on my game, and hardly slept all weekend. I finished the game I just can't figure out how to upload it. It used to be quite easy to export a game from gamemaker but i didn't know it changed in recent versions. Hopefully i'll figure it out someday but i doubtful i'll be able to upload it for 8 minutes from now. Huge bummer

Shy Shooters is out!

It's a little puzzle game with (hopefully) simple to understand mechanics.

I hope you enjoy it. I'll go get some sleep now, and start playing your awesome games tomorrow :)

Cheers.

Made it!

Of course I didn't make nearly as much as I intended, but that's always the case. And I am proud of what I've managed to do. So, here it is:

screen1_org.png

Not a whole lot of gameplay, but I was going for a rather relaxing experience this time. I was considering not uploading it for Compo and doing more stuff for the Jam, but here we are. Maybe one day we'll get a way to take part in both with two separate versions of a game. :)

Made a game. Very tired. It's done.

I am done. As per usual I am unable to function right now so I will just drop you a fancy screenshot, a link and then I'll get out for today. I'll start playtesting tomorrow.

Jeez I'm tired.

You can play CAVE here. Linux and Web builds will follow shortly. Goodnight.

Our first (version) game !

Teamempebble/emlogo.png

Greetings dev and players !

My name is Marcoleric and i'm the co-founder of TEAM PEBBLE, a little duo with Neon Kuroasa. This was the first Ludum Dare together and we decided to learn Godot 4.1 and do a game at the same times. We're both equiped with a bit of dev knowledge, which is quite helpful for making a little game !

ClaustroRush is our first try at making games in duo. The goal of the game is to climb as much as possible an endless cumbling tower while avoiding getting crushed by two, slowly closing walls.

The game was a blast to make and we're really happy how the first version turned out ! We may add a bit more to the content, fix some bug here and there, and maybe go further !

you can play it there : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/claustrorush

We need to thanks our followers during our livestreams ! Making a game with our curious folks was quite a goofy experience !

Cave Crawl is Done!

What a ride! My first Compo completed. Saturday ended quite poorly so there was a huge amount of catch up to do Sunday, but I got there! Very proud with how everything turned out, I think it's exceptionally goofy.

I didn't get a big chance to playtest so fingers crossed it works 😅 Have fun and enjoy!

Fun jam!

I didn't go super big (and ended up spending my Sunday on music and sounds lol) but this ended up being a fun first Ludum Dare for me! I didn't like the theme at first but I ended up finding something I liked and not overscoping. Would appreciate any feedback: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/shrinking-universe

Screen Shot 2023-10-02 at 10.05.43 am.png Cheers from the Shrinking Universe!

And we're done Compo :D

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the compo part of the Jam, I cannot wait to get to play your games, I have already gone through a few of them and have had a blast.

This is only my second Jam and I have noticed a thing when I go to look at all the games that have been made, I feel a crazy amount of wonder when I see the verity of games made under a simple theme, things that I wouldn't have ever thought about are the first thing in others heads.

I cannot wait for the next Jam to see what we can all come up with.

And... Done!

Harold's Furry Hazelnut Scurry, a game about a Hamster and a lot of hazelnuts is now playable!

My game is out!

Hello! I have been very bad at showing my progress, mainly because i just had a couple of hours to work on it, but i made a jam game and it is now completed.

A game filled with elderly care and a whole lot of cookies :cookie: (and vomit) :nauseated_face:, im impressed to even get something out after this weekend where i was busy with other things!

I hope you made an awesome game that i will enjoy playing and if not, better luck next time! :heart:

Seeking help - how do I rate games?

I can leave comments and I've successfully posted my own game, but I can't figure out how to rate other peoples'. I don't see a button or link anywhere.

Getting there!

We've made good progress today! Hopefully tomorrow after work will be enough to finish up what we've started!🙏🏻

Excited to see what you've all been cooking up!🤩

Question about asset reuse for game options?

TLDR: Can we reuse icons if they are for accessibility or branding consistency? Or would it be better to make from scratch to keep to the spirit of the LD jam?

We make our games for an arcade we host at https://moonbowentertainment.itch.io/ One of the icons we use is a "mute" option button, with on and off state. In our other games we have just copied the same buttons from game to game to keep the options as consistent as possible.

However, we DO want to enter LD's graphics category with our jam entry from this time.

Should our artist have to spend the extra time drawing the sound button again from scratch?

First timer, had a blast in the Compo!

The only problem is all the ideas I didn't have time for! I can't wait to keep running with the prototype I built this weekend. It's a dash of ZachTronics puzzle game, a dose of sandbox game, and maybe even a little something secret. Without further ado, Sigiled Throne:

Game done! Sometimes it works ...

That's it! Submitted and shattered. Although the final game seems to bug out occasionally when shooting so I need to fix that in the morning.

My entry is here! Hope you all had a great compo. Good luck to those still jamming.

Enjoy!!

My compo submission!

Hey peeps! This was the first time I took part in Compo, and it was... actually surprisingly breezy? I'm so used to just blowing scopes out of proportion that it was kind of relaxing to just make a simple game and focus more on the music and the art.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/laser-grid Anyway, here it is! It's a fast-paced puzzle game about lasers and grids! Screenshotem3.png Screenshot/em11.png

Do you wanna sleep ?

My game "Do you wanna sleep ?" is finally in :) And YES I REALLY want to Sleep
Capture du 2023-10-02 01-33-40.png

Gave up on my other Game after 2 days Working on it...

If you remember me, I was working on a badass 3D Caveman (woman) game using my own Engine...

But that was because I was ready to say goodbye to the theme.

But now I'm back to the Jam Theme!

image (21).png

It will be a bad game, for sure, but I'm trying to keep it under 16KB... or 32 KB, we'll see how it goes!

At the moment, art and rendering code is complete and it's only 11,6 KB.

Too bad it's too late for the Compo... Because this would be a perfect game for it!

Done! It's been a while.

My LD54 compo entry Tunnel Chase is finished!

It's been years since I've last participated and I definitely missed it. I took it a bit easier this time and kept the game very simple but I think it turned out pretty fun. I decided to use this as an opportunity to learn Godot and test it's capabilities. I was surprised by how easy the engine was to learn and how quick it was to prototype with.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/tunnel-chase

First time compo, first time godot, fist time game development

Hi, this was my first Ludum Dare and my first experience with game development. It was realy much fun to learn godot and to develop my game. I hope you had as much and I'm looking forward to see all your games.

The Carver

My game is finally finished. It's my first time at Ludum Dare (I only participated in Brackey's Jam before). It was especially a challenge for me, because I knew I would be busy on Sunday. So I actually had only 24 hours to make the game. And I'm very happy with the result! It's also probably my last project in Unity and I'm planning on swithing to Godot now.

Enjoy!

How small of a bug can I fix

This is my first time participating in ludum dare so Im not too clear on the rules. I've got 3 bugs (at least) that I let through,

-One that spawns a vital object when you click (no clicking in my game so it slipped past)

-One that repeats a noise way too quickly

-One where I dont turn back on somethings particles when they should be

My question is if I push an update that fixes these, because It has source control (on github) is it alright because people can see that they are actually just bugfixes?

And if I am able how long am I able to polish(?)/bugfix after release? What are the critea for this is okay to update with?

First Game Jam / Day 2 / Done

This was my first Ludum Dare, I created the game live on stream and had a blast. Also, I'm very tired now. I'm pleased that the multiplayer part worked out in 48h. Originally I wanted the player to be able to create interactive tiles by combining two (e.g. closed door changes to open door, possibly with a condition, like there must be a key tile in the inventory) and would be very curios what rooms players would come up with. Well, maybe in a future release. 😊

Question: can we start rating games yet? I don't see the rating sections on all of the games I've been playing.

Cannot rate the compo entries

Hello o/

I was wondering if it was normal or not that I could not rate the compo entries yet, even though I published a compo entry myself :thinking:

Update#7: KRAKEN"S TENTACLES! Also added sfx & polished the game a bit.

I've found some free-to-use tentacle model and I've animated it inside Unity (only animating position and rotation, as there was no rig and I still haven't learnt how to rig XD).
But I'm kinda happy of the result.

Next, I will add some tutorials and balancing - and I guess the LiGHTHOLDER will be done!

Finally!

ezgif-1-325f7585f3-2_72.gif

I'm so happy to publish our first Godot game in this Ludum Dare 54, it's not the most complex game here, but we're pretty proud of it, considering we were trying Godot blindly and learning GDScript on the go. I'm amazed how friendly is the learning curve of Godot, its scripting is pretty much like Python and the IDE, well, reminds me of Unity, but way less overwhelming.

The team is tired, and tomorrow is business day, so we won't be working on the game for the rest of the Jam. About the future work? we have some ideas, but I won't promise anything

As for the name of the game... I couldn't convince the team to chose a better name ;(

Ending The Project Here

LimitedSpace.gif

I ended up making a solid prototype and decided this is a good enough experience for the jam so I won't be finishing or submitting it.

The concept is simple: a puzzle game where your character needs to go to the exit but every time you move, you are generating walls that may get in your way or block off the exit. The way you face determines which way walls will be generated, so you need to pick your path carefully. Future levels could have included spawners that rotate the opposite direction of you, or spawners that remove walls instead of adding them, or reversing what's there, or create bridges over the void or any number of things. And there could be teleporters around too. There are a lot of fun possibilities.

I have a feeling a similar game may already exist so if someone knows of one, please comment. Best of luck to everyone still going!

Unable to embed WebGL build on LDJam game page

Hello, I am zundou and I'm participating in the current LDJam. I've encountered an issue that I hope someone can help me with.

I've embedded a WebGL build of my game, created with Godot 4.1, on the game page, but I get the following error:

``` Error The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers) SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration send correct headers)
For reference, I uploaded the same build to itch.io and was able to play it after enabling the SharedArrayBuffer option. If anyone has any information on this issue, I would greatly appreciate your insights. :,-(
Heartbreaker - My post mortem | We died
After not doing a game jam in years we are faced with a heart breaker, our scope was too big and we just dont think its going to deliver on time. This was our first 3d game, me and my best friend who have done this for years have determined that delivery may not happen so my only choice is acceptance. I plan on continuing making the map and making it playable but delivery is not going to make it.
I'm am hugely thankful to my team of 3 artists, Naomi Borrego, my good friend Neiyah, and I. They pulled through big time.
My programmers Michael and Mai also did big work on the back end making the AI and the world interact.
Kyle with the goated audio and the sick engineering in the background
My post mortem, we needed a smaller scope and to prioritize things better, and it falls on me as i should have gave out better instructions.
In the last 2 days me and my art team pumped out so much stuff its incredible and I dont think anyone can challenge the work we put in to make it work but it was too much, my friends work on Monday and we dont have time so we really only had 2 days to work on a game so everyone enjoy the screenshots of the map along with me as I reflect on mistakes and the sadness that we wont be able to deliver on time this year. Screenshot1.PNGScreenshot2.PNGScreenshot3.PNGScreenshot4.PNGScreenshot5.PNG
I'm still going to spend an all nighter finishing what I can and getting it done so that my artists can at least show off what we made together.
But! I got my chests working. You can now store items into the chests. In this case, it just increments a counter, as the item itself doesn't matter. Most of it was again hooking up signals and handling an additional case in the interact action.
But also the chests keep track of their counts, and I set timers up to create items randomly. The example is sped up for testing.
I know these updates are simple, but this is probably the furthest I've gotten to making something playable.
One long term goal is after I am done with Extra, I will try to port this to FNA, Heaps/Haxe, Unity, and a few other engines and frameworks, to see what I actually like working with, at least for 2D.
Finally, the gif of the current state.
Thinking of switching to the jam
I’ve submitted my game but honestly I rushed a lot at the end to submit it, so I’m tempted to fix some final things up and convert to the jam.
I’ve got a few bugs and some qol stuff I want to add, plus a the ui could use some work and I might try and add some sounds. I do have work today which is the main reason I rushed to fit the compo
Challenge required
I'm off for the day, but i'm gonna try out some compo games this evening, send me your most difficult game, I want to see if I Can beat it ;)
Almost Done!
We are making the final adjustments, the audio, Menu and etc.
