Ludum Dare 54 September 29–October 2, 2023

New Game by Newbie

Hello, We(2 members) are newbie participating in LD54.

We want to show our sample image and get some feedbacks. Yet the development is progressing, the image is JUST A CONCEPT what we want. Please feel free to ask and say about our design(or anything else is fine)! Thanks :) 스크린샷 2023-10-01 오후 9.37.32.png

Some slimy enemies to crush !

It's all taking shape in a pretty cool way ! Here are the enemies, a race of slime aliens that managed to lock you in a cell ! Break out, or more exactly, break them out with your cage ! LineUp.jpg

Introducing "Code Crusader"

We finally came up with a name for our game! This means that it's time for devlog and I'll start by telling you a little bit about our game!

The place of action is cyberspace, in which you have to take on the role of a core defender.

During your journey you will have to: -Maintain core energy -Liberate cyberspace from the spread of the virus -Collect the core fragments

And in the end restore restore the core and save cyberspace

[Start] your game старт.png

One day to make a game?

Okay, I'll take that challenge. I haven't made a game in a year, and I'm a little rusty, so I'm sticking with the tried and true. But with a little twist. (And I only have one day... today... to make this, so here it goes!)

mind the gap.png

In a jam

For my first time in Ludum Dare, I'm having to go from a compo to a Jam. Usually I'm stuck with compo because of work, but thanks to a long weekend (and multiple coding errors pushing back the game) I have a third day on the table! Really decided to push myself and what I could code with this one and it's showing, who would have guessed programing a complex enemy script to play your chess-like board game against you would be difficult 😅

image-16.png

I have a CPU player now, just need to make them smarter. Hopefully I can turn this mess of nunbers into something actually good looking!

Update#4: Title screen for the LiGHTHOLDER

Made a simple title screen for the game - I was wondering if the scene should be at night, with the Lighthouse lantern on, but the during-the-day version somehow suited me more.
Probably will have some second thoughts in a couple of hours though

Also, I've finally started working on the player/lighthouse upgrades!
After that I will do some polishing & add sounds.

The concept of the game on Ludum jam 54

Our game offers a unique and interesting environment where players can showcase their car driving skills. The limited space adds authenticity and challenge to the game, while the use of symbolic controls adds uniqueness. Inspired by the 16-bit era, the game creates a nostalgic atmosphere. We aim to deliver the excitement and adrenaline of retro PS-1 games. By combining the "Limited Space" theme with the "Space" key, we offer players new and exciting opportunities for a unique gaming experience. photo2023-09-3019-56-36.jpgphotoem2023-09-30/em19-56-36.jpg

Idea process before finishing the game

The first idea in my head was making a game with the title called "Under the rubble". Basically a simple visual novel with choices for the day, but I scratched it due to the fact that I have very limited artistic skills and I don't feel the game very engaging. The second idea came is to make a random generated tiles with limited turns to explore. However, my artistic skill is also killing the idea. And I do feel that my mom was kinda right about how confusing the tiles looking like: chosen_1.png. Nope, not gonna go that way either for another reason is not engaging. The third idea and final idea came to me when I reply to my mother when she was calling for me and didn't hear my reply well. Then the title for the game: lungage. limited lung capacity is kinda interesting and in my ability. And so I copied most of my in another progress project then slap its mechanic and fixing quite exhausting. So why I posted this? It should be like a log of my progress and also wanting to encourage the others not to give up or give in the temptation of lazy devils. You have one day to go my fellow jammers :))))

We have gameplay!

After a day of wrestling with Godot's physics engine the gameplay is finally coming together.

UI mock-up

Art will appear in the game soon, but for now we are sharing a mockup of the UI with you🥰 изображениеem2023-10-01/em162929002.png

Ok I tried Unreal Engine 5

The idea: you locked in a huge office, you have claustrophobia and you need to get out of there, because walls are literally pushing you. What I've reached for now is this. And eventually, I can't perform the main feature of my game. Working on it. Guess I won't make it for the compo I.gif

Day 2

I have no idea what i'm doing. Glad that @cobaltjt is doing all the programming xD

BUT. After a not so nice night im back and it's time for the last few things! 2.png

Floodwater is published!

I'm calling it a little early this time, as real life demands its due, but I've really enjoyed this one. My entry this time around is a short-and-sweet puzzle game, made in PICO-8. Check it out!

Game DONE

Capture d’écranem2023-10-01/em15-28-04.png

And now to enjoy the remains of my weekend.

Some kind of a storage space renting simulator.

something.png

I only have like 3 hours since I will submit to compo and I still have to add an objective, balance all capacity and rent numbers, and do more work on the "start the day" scene where you will have to defend the occupied spaces from viruses.

Done!

Added a win condition and polished things up a bit Screenshot 2023-10-01 140835.png I think it turned out pretty well considering I did basically zero warming up and was busy playing Shiren 5 until the theme was announced after which I had to figure out what tools to use and to actually install them to my new laptop that I hadn't used for any gamedev before this. https://mauno.itch.io/ld54

Limited Space in space are done

I'm done with my game. Good luck to everybody still in work :thumbsup:

Thinking about the game title

What does "Wrecking jail" make you think of in terms of gameplay/mood, as a game title?

Here's our main character, if it can help!

DevLog #3

8 more hours to go, and things are looking good. The game seems to run stable, the gameplay elements are in place. I got sounds and even music, though it shows that I am not a composer... :sweat_smile: Now it is time to create some content with the level editor.

I was going for additional gameplay elements, and may add them later today to be used in additional levels, but for now I want to get some basic content done so the game is fully functional for an upload, should I run out of time.

I feel like the start was EONS ago!

Been working with @shad since the start of the 54th LD. 40h later we do have a working game! A couple of things still need working out but Loot Goblin is coming soon, and with my Goblin impersonations xD

Call for woolly volunteers!

Hello fellow citizens!

there appeared a visitor of the magical, woolly kind.

we should see and find out which occupation he’ll find.

In this bustling city, overloaded with sheep

vertical stables are highly in need

our city is busy with collecting ideas

come back, follow the call for smart volunteers.

Temporary Name Team. Day two. Force majeure

On the second day, our computer broke down. We experienced the limitation of the game development space! But that doesn't stop us, we just go to the next level of difficulty! Let's keep going!UnityemCAWBwGTkRX.pngUnity/emRlZVVjSOr1.png

I haven't posted anything about our game, gotta catch up!

Alright our game is called Begrenzt Pong (possibly Pong Begrenzt) Begrentz is german for limited and this is normal, very normal game of pong, you play both paddles and ooh hey look power up! These could be one of 3 good or 3 bad power ups (power downs) but you may notice some... odd things, but who knows bugs, your imagination, find out at my scratch profile when it releases. PurplishLilac (Lachlan5150 may actually have it).

Stairway to ... the next step

Sometimes gamedev is just one step after another ;-)

https://youtu.be/New1945W-go

This is for a game where you need to reach the exit on the ceiling so building stairs is a top move!

Spent (waking) time since last vid making debug graphics for Godot to help debug my carrying code. Have quite a nice little utility now -- the lines and crosses you see in the vid. Might share if sufficient interest (after some tidy-up).

Now finally have carrying working sufficiently, on to an end condition -- an exit!

Also, alas, looking at progress, I guess I'll be going for jam rather than compo. Ah well.

Game loop over

That's it ! I've done my main gameplay loop, and most of basic graphism. I need some Sound FX, music, some polish, and i'm good to go for the compo !

Good luck to all compo contestants, I can't wait to try out what people have come with that theme !

Deciding to make Jam game with pre-made assets, instead of Compo

Screenshot 2023-10-01 174147.png

Screenshot 2023-10-01 175110.png

Well, apparently attempting to make a Compo game isn't such a bright idea when you are just at the beginner phase of the engine you use. No way I can finish the game in my mind tonight, especially if I have to do the art, too. I'll use pre-made assets and focus on coding and designing the game (and of course will opt-out the related categories).

My idea is

"You witness the epic battle between the fearless heroes and relentless undead in this game about greed. Except that you are no hero, but a rogue who loots the dungeon during the battle. The weight you carry has a limit, so you need to pay attention to the value and weight of the loot. Oh, and don't die, because a rogue lives only once.

You can increase your weight limit and buy thief kits. It's also possible to gain from fallen heroes if you feel greed too much, but you'll also gain the wrath of their siblings-in-arms."

I'm in!

I am on my way back from a weekend gathering, but I will try to make a game anyway! I still have tonight and tomorrow, right? ;)

I am thinking of making a "1-dimensional" game. :thinking:

First programming done, now some work on the map

I thought i couldn't participate in this LD, but it turned out, i got some time to create something. After programming the base mechanics like player controller and flashlight, i started to create the fist rough map layout. Let's see if i can navigate this labyrinth of ventilation shafts to find the exit. And yes its a space themed limited space game :joy:

While working on the project i get soooooo many new ideas for it. I hope i can add some of them.

Bildschirmfoto 2023-10-01 um 16.54.03.png

First prototype!

Hey everyone! I hope your LD is going well. Just passing by to share... we have our first prototype!

Our game is a narrative timetable management where you must plan a week. There are a lot of events but a limited space on the agenda for doing all.

What do you think?

Sneak peak of our game !

Here's somes little images from our game ! i hope you'll like it c:

Final stretch!

I added more complex bullet patterns and a level structure. Less time to polish then i thought but content is coming along great!

Game submitted

Ok, I finally managed to submit my entry fore the compo. I wanted to give a try at UE5 this time and I went full-on with it. I knew it would take me quite some time to get things right, but that's part of the fun.

Here is the link to the entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/warehouse-keeper

And a small video of the game itself. I wanted to put in way more features to make it better than the usual sokoban-like game, but there is way too little time and I won't be able to spend much more time in front of the screen today. So here it is, I hope you will enjoy it.

How much do I remember?

It's been a year since I've made a game and I'm a bit rusty. And unity updates decided my old games no longer work so... that's causing a little issue. But I'm pushing through. And why is the player so floaty now? Gravity doesn't seem to be effecting things like it used to.

Title screen done, first five levels designed, now to start adding some spin.

Overpowered

Finally in a position where I can implement some more features! splitmid.gif piercing + splitting bullets seems OP tho..

Hope everyone is having fun crunching :3

Limited space, very seriously

We're making our game on Godot, it's the first time that we're using it ! Here's somes assets and image of the game c: ! We took "Limited space" very seriously and... you're limited to press space Image.pngBACKGROUNDemVISUALNOVEL.pngVISUAL/emNOVELV2.png

Temporary Name Team. More passion more energy

The color option was chosen based on your advice. Thank you!

Completed the sound details. All music is consistent with its screen. Music bits are synchronized with the visuals. Finalizing the interface: movement of musical parts. Added all screens in draft form: main menu, win, lose.

Purrimeter

This'll be my first 'Jam' as most of this weekend I've been building a treeless treehouse, so definitely won't be finished in 5 hours haha :laughing:

So far I have a decent pun, some programmer art, and a working ( and even somewhat fun ) concept.

Use mouse / touch to draw a perimeter , then move the cat around within that walkable area.

I am not smart enough to actually make challenging puzzles , so this'll probably be really easy. :thinking:

Playing the Hand we were Dealt

Tamanegi Collective (that's us!) are back at it again for another Ludum Dare; this time we have got to say, not a fan of the theme. But we won't let that stop us! In our ideation, we wracked our brains trying to work out something for the theme of Limited Space, and we eventually came upon an idea we all rather liked:

'What if the world you knew was one of those Ubisoft radio towers?'

You'll have to wait and see exactly where we're taking this idea, but we're making great progress. We're really excited to show you all what we've made!

I give up..

Not that I wouldn't have an idea, but it was the first time I was about to create in 3D. Even though I practiced with Blender before LudumDare, it took all of my energy today, especially the animation part.

Good luck to all of you, see you next time.

It's done.

First Godot game is done!

It was a special experience, but I'm still very positive about a future married to Godot. I'm not a 3D AAA game developer; I'm a hobbyist and won't need all the power of the bigger engines. I want to be able to create, and I do see Godot focusing on making it easy to create. Using ray-casts was way too easy! 😊

The game isn't anything amazing, but it wasn't planned to be. I just wanted to learn to use Godot. I think it was a success.

two steps forward one step back every time

I "finished" the game last night, but my buddies ran through it and found a ton of holes in the colliders on the WebGL version, spent this morning improving the level block geos, modifying colliders, THEN SOME HOW ONE WAS PUSHING/PULLING the player for literally no discernable reason so that was like 2 hours of trouble shooting, and then somehow the floor colliders on like 30% of the level went back to default sizes....

it's all fixed now and I'm rebuilding but DAMN that was stressful

Almost finished a quick first Godot game

First time trying to make a game in Godot (not to say in a real engine) with not much time available this week-end. I'm still pretty happy with what I made, see you next LD !

For context: you control up to two little dinosaurs trying to not get crushed by falling meteors on their tiny stranded island.

LD54.png

Comin in hot... as always

Starting to feel the presssure! A lot left to do, but a lot of progress to show!

Here is the current version of the "game case" and the mechanics inside are fully working now.

CAseProgress.PNG

I have a LOT of audio to make, some music to compose and a few 3D models left too. I want to put the credits on the underside of the case so the player can flip it over to see them! also... if I have time.. I want to put it into a room so there is an environment for it :D

here goes the final stretch! Good luck everyone!

(Yeah no, we really need to find a real game name....)

It's a wrap!

I hope everyone is doing well and coming close to the finish line! I've already checked out some of your games and I like what I'm seeing.

Late last night I finished up my submission earlier than I expected. This is my first time doing Ludum Dare as a young and aspiring game developer. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or what but I can't see my game on the submissions page. :/ Here's the link anyways.

First Time's the Charm?

First time taking part in Ludum Dare. First time making a game in Godot.

Godot has been a joy to use while I'm working on a very small tiny-teeny arcade game. I always seem to be thinking about making to coolest, most fanciest games during jams (even though it wouldn't be possible with my laughable skill-set), but not this time. The game's not gonna be massive in terms of scope and that's fine. I'm learning a new engine and taking it slowly.

It's like I'm rediscovering the joy of game development all over again.

Here's what I've got so far... ok.gif

The player follows the mouse cursor at all times and yeah... not as much progress as I'd hoped.

Just Mowing The Graveyard....Until Zombies!!

I finally have my mowing mechanic down and have got my zombies and gravestones implemented! I'm very excited and happy with how this is coming along, even if it doesn't look like much.LifelessLandscaperPreview3.gif

Coming up on the end...

Getting really close! ``` Todo: - Different Robot Types - Robots collide - Subroutines - Wait Instructions - Remove Nothing orders from instruction lists - Jump Next Level button on complete Reset Level button on complete - Save high scores - Display Complete and High Scores on the Menu - Don't allow subroutines to call subroutines Music SFX

```
Squashed all the bugs I've found so far. I have a bunch of polish stuff to do over the next few hours.
Polish: -Animations for movement -Animations for jumping - Main Menu Improve Screen Transitions - Robots teleport when complete - Starting Creation Juice - Add Reset button to Instructions scene - Menu on Game Screen Add a delay between the last robot hitting the teleporter and the level ending How to play screens from the menu Background
Home stretch all you compo people! You got this!
Day 2 Progress
Day 2 is going well on my "coffee break grand strategy space conquest" game. Here's how it's looking:
NewScreenshot1.pngNewScreenshot2.png
Here's how the three systems are shaping up: - Battle Screen - Mostly done, just need to fix some bugs with the enemy AI and get it to recognise the win/loss at the end battle. - Map Screen - Today's focus, this is getting close to done. Main things left are spending resources to reinforce fleets or deploy new ones. Oh and there's no enemy AI here yet. - Card System - This is the goal for Monday. I really want the battles to have a card aspect so you don't get to choose exactly what you do on every turn, I want the decision making to be more about "how do I work with what I've got".
This was always going to be a three day jam for me, and I'll be entering in the extra category to opt out of judging. However right now I'm feeling good about getting a playable game done before the jam finishes.
I'm also cautiously optimistic this might be fun enough to work on post jam. I think with some more development this might be a cool game. One step at a time though so the goal is to get it completed to a jam level.
First compo entry done!
Stone Heart is finished - my first compo entry since my usual team was not available.
