Ludum Dare 54 September 29–October 2, 2023

Willing to join a team as an artist to make assets/sprites!

Hello, guys! I'd like to join an existing team to make the graphics for the game. I favour sandbox-like games and simplified graphics.

Drop me a message if you feel like working together!

Usually I make something like this: 11117.png

Available for composing music

If anyone is looking for someone to create some music for the upcoming event I'm available. You can hear stuff I've written on my website https://www.mikebreidegam.com

The most wholesome theme ever

I was just going back over the themes I voted for during theme slaughter and I forgot about this one!

You are doing great! Keep it up and have an amazing day! :*

Whoever suggested this theme is my hero! I hope you have an amazing day too! 🙌

PS: I know this won't be the theme of Ludum Dare 54, but it's a winner in my book.

Green like a Forest

I've never been more satisfied with a voting round! Well done friends

Godot 4 web

How would I upload a web version of a Godot 4 game and is linking to an entry on itch.io allowed?

And the winner is:

Folklor! It is going to win this time around.

Get ready for it.

Voting is mandatory

Im already starting a board with ideas for some of these. Might also try some shaders in Godot.

Farm and Mine: new resource chains and the 26th day of streaming marathon

I started developing Farm and Mine in April 2021, being inspired by the theme of Ludum Dare 48 "Deeper and Deeper". The idea was to combine agricultural and industry simulator by digging potatoes at the farm first, and then mining for coal and other deposits.

The game was released in August 2021, It had 25 unlockable facilities that form production chains and 18 inventions. The game progression involves interconnection of 3 currencies:

  • coins (regular production upgrades and new facilities purchases)
  • workforce (automation upgrades, limited by population, can be rolled back)
  • ideas (inventions)

After prestiging the player can distribute prestige points on permanent boosts.

Since then I keep updating the game. In the subsequent updates new facilities and inventions were added, such as Fishing, Cats, Lemonade, Oil drilling, Ferry, etc. Also new prestige upgrades and convenience improvements were made within these 2 years.

And now I'm proud to announce that the newest content update, Farm and Mine v.1.2.1 is live in Google Play, AppStore and Itch. It adds 2 new production chains: Cotton - Textile - T-shirts and Lavender - Perfume. Also there are new inventions and new Prestige points applications.

So the current version of Farm and Mine has 52 work facilities, 28 professions, 51 inventions, 6 cats, 8 permanent prestige upgrades. I'm happy that it was rated 4.5-4.8 on mobile platforms :)

The game is available for Windows and Linux (on Itch), Android (on Google Play) and iOS (on App Store). Just type the name in the appropriate store's search :)

Many ideas from the newest update were suggested by the viewers of my livestream. Starting from Sep 1st I'm running a streaming marathon where I play Farm and Mine for 30-60 minutes every day. During the streams I share strategy advice, answer questions and discuss plans for the future.

The next stream starts today in just 2.5 hours (20:00 Kyiv time), you are welcome to join - It can be found on Youtube by "Farm and Mine developer stream"

Game discussions are also going on in Discord (link available inside the game :) )

I'm thankful to Ludum Dare as it is an event where this game was born! Wishing you luck on the upcoming LD 54!

One of my favourite themes of all time made it to theme voting!

I'm just gonna gush about "Decay" for a bit.

"Decay" is a wonderful theme.

It does have some more "generic" or "boring" interpretations - "help, our kingdom is decaying" and the like, but that's not all it is! The best themes have creative interpretations mechanically, visually, or thematically, and "decay" has a bunch of options.

Mechanically, anything on a timer is decaying. You can style that in a bunch of creative ways, for example: - plants that die if they spend too long in darkness - cars/machines that rust over time - which you can accelerate with something like rain - a match 3 game where the pieces crumble into dust over time - power that "decays" - you start of strong, but the more you use your power, the faster it runs out - batteries or radiation

There are loads of possibilities and I'm sure you're all much more creative than me.

Then, there are the story-based implications. Anything to do with plants, or something like the Flood in Halo, works nicely, but there's also things like houses falling into disrepair, radiation, or you could go for a general sense of "rot" in something like politics. There are a ton of options.

And finally, there are some INCREDIBLE visual styles that you can pull off with this theme. I mean look at this, from a quick deviantart search: decayemby/emistrandar_de7h3at-pre.jpg Source

Obviously stuff of this quality isn't possible in a jam, but you can get a lot of mileage from very little here.

Holding fingers crossed

A lot of interesting themes this time with loads of potential! Hopefully I'll be able to implement my latest wish to create a Tower-Defence game with the one that wins 64ow3N5zx4k.jpg

slightly better than round 1 but these theme choices are kinda mid ngl

"Don't use Unity" themes were slaughtered the most

According to Mike Kasprzak, who runs Ludum Dare, the various "Don't use Unity" themes are the lowest rated of them all. https://twitter.com/mikekasprzak/status/1706433713267990783

There is hope!
