Asset/Texture Question
Am I allowed to use online images as textures for my 3d models if I modify them? For example, changing the resolution or color.

For a 4 hours prototype I am happy.
Tomorrow I have to shoot an HDRI and some textures. Than the controls.
And than a lot of playtesting

It's a two-player game???
My idea is to play as a retired mad genius that wanted to take over the world but he has since been caught and forced to do community service, he will work as a vet and will have to administer medicine to animals, but this wont be any medicine it will be elements of the periodic table and by making most of the combinations of the elements will force in an unstable mixture / reaction which results in poor treatment of the animals which in turn results in longer community service for the villain. However creating useful / pure cobinations for example NaCl (salt) or H2O will result in a reduction of the villains sentence and possibly will affect his plans of taking over the world.
in! lets gooooo!!!
337 sprite files in my competition folder... Now I can see why my finished games end up with 20k files lol #gottagofast
I had intended to user Phaser 3 for this jam and have been working in it for the past 5 hours or so. As I've not really worked in it for anything substantial, I knew that progress would be slow. However, the progress is far too slow and I can see that I need to be more familiar with it before I can use it in a jam. I've just spent 30 minutes arm wrestling Phaser over collision body shapes (and losing)...
So, I'm changing to Unity as I'm more familiar with it.
It's not really wasted time (well, it kind of is) because it has helped me to flesh out my game concept and develop a few placeholder assets which I can bring across to Unity.
Anyway... that's how my day is going. How about you?
I felt the need to make a satirical game about my state because the power grid is so… unstable.

I figured out what I liked to do and setup a simple scene in Unity to help me think about it and get a better picture to take notes on. One of my first ideas when I thought of "unstable" was alchemy (probably because I have been playing Potion Craft recently). Unlike Potion Craft where it's fairly calm and everything revolves around interacting with the potion chart, my idea is to have a game where you have to create potions by balancing different aspects of the mixture and prevent it from becoming unstable.
First I'm going to just start of simple with only a few ingredients and potions that can be made. The only aspects I'm going to try to implement at first are concentration of the ingredients and temperature of the mixture because those are the easiest to wrap my head around.
From there I'd like to add other things like interactions between ingredients and other aspects like acidity or something.
If I'm able to make a complex enough potion maker in time, I'd like to expand the game so you have to balance other things like your customer base. (Thinking something like Reigns where if you piss off certain groups of people too much you die)

My own jam entry, Unstable (as in, releasing horses from a stable) will be the focus of my Monday. Most of the shenanigans are based off the silly animations of the asset I found in the Unity Store related to the above horse. All silly. Some pun.
Saturday and Sunday, I'll be contributing scripting to a group project about a carnival management simulation. The bulk of the work will be the art assets, so my coding will be just a minimal amount of the overall project, but I'm excited to see it come together About half a dozen team members spent a couple hours after work today working through a number of different ideas and possibilities.
Built out the main scene for my game, now I just have to actually make the game lmao

Luckily I had some code from another project that could be reused here.

My beautiful (and unfinished) Unstable Game. HAHA

Progress. Where to, I dunno.

It's not like there's a time limit or anything

Just starting out making a short game My first jam Am panicking

...at least, I HOPE they're placeholders.
I've managed to write up a bare bones design doc for my game and put together the map which is one of my less strong points leaving me to be able to code all day tomorrow and set up the game logic. I've managed to complete more than I planned tonight, but once I get some sleep I think I'll be in a very good position to push onwards.
I'm working on a spaceship management game where you have to manage the stress and wellbeing of your crew members to avoid catastrophic failures that will destroy the ship and/or the crew. I've put together some basic ideas that I plan to sleep on to see if any further inspiration comes to me before I lock everything in and start work in the morning.
First 5 hours in, I almost got my mvp prototype going but since nothing works anymore and I need some sleep. see you in a few hours.
