Guitar Hero Summoning Game Idea

So i brainstormed this morning hand had the idea to create a Guitar Hero like gameplay (Follow the Pattern) to summon demons. Here is my silly game loop.

The Left Hand in the Confessional

"Father, I have sinned... so I'd like to order one Dantelion, please."

The image sums up my game idea in a nutshell; you are inside a confessional box, listening to your customer's woes. You must figure out which demon will be the most suitable, and how to properly summon it. There will be consequences if you fail. Sometimes even when you succeed. It's the fearsome demons we're dealing with, after all.

So what kind of people would be so as dire as to make a deal with the demon? I've let my imagination roll, and here's the result so far:

Can you guess the reason for showing up to a demon-summoning confessional? Feel free to share your guess, I'll be very grateful if you do!

Next I'm planning to design some demons to match their needs! Might as well as consult the Goetia for inspiration :)

I'm in =)

Okay, I'm in. Summoning was not my favorite theme, but I have some interesting ideas. sketch.png

Guitar Hero Summoning Game Idea

Did some brainstorming in the morning an came up with the idea to create a game with a guitar hero gamplay to summon demons. Here is my silly game loop.

I'm in!

After a bit of a break working on a larger project, it feels good to be back at LD! Can't wait to summon! summon.png

Placeholders...

Chaotic Cards

Well, I would've liked to have been further along than this, but here's an update. I have some cards that combine to make chess pieces. After a sleep, I'll work on getting the pieces on the board. Kinda got inspired by the "press your luck" idea, along with the other themes, so I'm combining multiple ideas. It's not Balatro, but it's a start.

Crimes Against Carrots

Excited that summoning won as I had a fun idea for it: you're a bunny summoned to court to pay for your crimes against carrots! Just fleshing art out so far.

Only dirty summoners draw on the floor

5 hours in, having a blast, learned about camera stacking, post-processing, particles, and mostly failed at shader graphs. Lunch and a walk, then prepare yourselves for some creative gameplay which doesn't require graph theory (I may only have one day) =)

edit: ideas on improving the graphics easily welcome haha

Skateboarding is not a crime!

ldjam55_0.png

I found a concept for the theme 'summoning' that I'm really excited to work on, and I've managed to get some progress made after ~3 hours work. You play as a skateboarder who has to make an appearance at court before noon and pay a fine for the crime of skateboarding. Except you don't have any money and noon is only 3 minutes away! Skateboard around the city gathering as much loose change as you can find and make it to the courthouse in time. Just don't get caught by the cops!

I've got some gameplay done (you can move around and collect things and get on and off your skateboard). I'm going to spend the afternoon getting the rest of the city map built, then this evening add the timer and scoring mechanic. The plan for tomorrow will be to add the cops with pathfinding ai.

How's everyone else getting on with the jam?

Summoning and the first two hours

I've started games before and have been playing around with Godot for months. I've also signed up for a couple of Game Jams, but this is the first that I have rolled with from the beginning.

Last night within the first two hours, I brainstormed my concept and made a plan to get things rolling. Today I'm going to start on the Godot stuff, including creating the game files and getting some pre-made sprites into the game.

Nothing to show yet, but excited to get this going! All hail project organizers for ADHD peeps!

Drawing magic circles is a lot of fun

haha I'm now clicking mouse and drawing something seems of mystery without using my brain. this is kinda interesting. {243FD9FC-2B24-4e91-BAD6-5BCA2711ABBD}.png

Making Progress!

The idea for our game is to battle a scrabble tile summoning wizard by creating words. The basic gameplay loop is done and, I have to say, it's quite addictive.

What should we call the game?

Any ideas for special tiles?

CODING

I like coding.

aaaa. maybe need a coin flip

What do you get if you mix an 2d and 3d artist? Right, someone who can't decide what they're gonna do! the idea was a point-and-click style game but what if 3d? I struggle massive with perspective and blender makes that much easier but what if i make it all in 3d? aaahhh T.T Need to remind myself that i only have today and tomorrow since i've got work on monday and even the early shift sooo..
