Ludum Dare 55 April 13–16, 2024

I'm In

First time participating in a game jam, hope it goes well! I will use unity game engine.

The symbols! They speak to me!

The glowing symbols on the floor is so mesmerizing. The note was not there just moments ago. Am I going mad? I doesn't feel like it. The knife feel so comfortable in my hand... my hand... my... hand...

Happy with core mechanics

In my deckbuilding game, you can either keep, play or summon a card. Summoning a card removes it from your deck, giving you its effect permanently, but it is quite expensive. You can also keep a card in your hand for later when you have better use for it, but it costs you 1 coin per turn.

You have two main ways of using coins: to buy new cards into your deck, or summoning your cards. Balancing these two aspects is a key to victory.

One of your objectives is defeating monsters that give you victory points, but you need swordsmen (or a lot of money) to banish them.

The game is starting to be playable. The next step is designing the cards (which are exported from a Google Sheet), to make the game balanced, challenging and fun!

Really starting to like the direction of this.

Good luck everyone!

Glyph recognition?

Mix elements by drawing glyphs to summon stuff.

Need help choosing between two art styles

I have two different art styles in mind for my game and can’t pick between them. The first one would be a more fantasy theme where the player plays as a wizard/witch and is travelling through a forest or something, the other is basically the complete opposite and would have a similar graphics style to Portal with a more sci-fi vibe. Which one sounds more interesting?

I'm in!

It's been a while :') Barely opened GMS to try things for now, focusing on having a solid but feasable idea and hoping it might help not to fall into feature creep as always... (it probably won't) Cheers!

Is it a Ouija board?

On the second day, there are updates in the modeling area; we have our first version of our board. We conducted research on apotropaic objects and will create a mix of a board with dice to deal with supernatural forces. Here are some images of what's happening.

The hardest thing for me is 3D modelling and animation. Coding is so much faster...

This one took me in Blender like 6 hours!

Halfway through Day 1

ldjam55_1.gif

I've made some progress. The city map is ~2/3rds complete, I've got some basic gameplay done. Going to try and wrap up the level design tonight and get the central game loop completed and playable. Already feeling like I've over-scoped this...

How's everyone else getting on? Show me what you're building in the comments!

I'm not a graphics guy...

Been quite some time since I participated in Ludum Dare so it's good to be back. I'm still working on the game from the last time I joined. It's in early access on Steam.

This time around I'm doing the graphics and music for a game with @ecenizo. I don't really consider myself a graphics guy though, so it takes a lot of work to do something I consider mediocre at best.

The animation is extremely difficult, I find. I'm working with Aseprite and any tips would be most welcome :)

40-people team? Sure, why not

Someone asked "What if we made a +30 people team for LDJam?" and well, we did!

We’re aiming to build an awesome Narrative RPG for the Jam, and really trying our bestd to get away from scope creep because it's pretty hard to do when you have a team this size 😂

We'll post updates soon(ish).

We are in! Super late!

Same team as last time(@tucan, @rsr-studios)! We had quick brainstorming session and we have settled with one idea! I thought we would not be able to make it this Jam but here we are! Let's see how this goes!PXLem20240413/em164608200.MP.jpg

2 hours in

10am here in LA, and I'm 2 hours in to the compo. Making something based off the classic Hexxagon DOS game. Tile selection is working:
