WITCHLOG #999 progress

LD55 Day 1/3 progress report:

  • story concept plus a few rough dialogue choices
  • character and background concepts

Regarding the music, I fiddled around a bit with beepbox and BoscaCeoil but nothing's sticking so far. Day 1 is usually the slowest for me because I have to get comfortable with the story and rough ideas. So I'm not too concerned, but hope to make a lot of progress tomorrow!!

Day Two Underway!

Here's a sneak peak at our game, Graveyard Shift: Skeleton Dad Simulator! The premise is that you are constantly summoned to fight an adventurer but you have to worry about being a dad at the same time. It's all about that #WorkLifeBalance  looking forward to sharing it with you Sunday!

Day 1: Finished core mechanics + some (hopefully) rough art

Screenshot 2024-04-14 at 00.04.21.png

After a 5-hour late start this morning, I setteled on a turn-based chaotic summoner battler where spells are summoned onto the field. Summoners can only move one field at a time, and the player must decide whether to move or summon a spell. Air allows you to move farther and jump over obstacles. Fire and Water automatically spread after being summoned, while Earth stops them from spreading. The goal is to outlast the enemy summoners. I'm quite happy with the results so far especially for finishing the core mechanics. Hopefully tomorrow I can slap some roguelike elements on top if time permits.

Going slowly!

As you can see I'm making a platformer (in Unity)

Haha! It's going slowly, but Albertine can walk and jump and almost summon! (still working out the mechanics on the things she summons!) Don't know if I'll be done at the end, but happy with progression. It's my first LD, can't you guess?

Makin' (slow) Progress!

So, I have a Mage who can bind hell hounds to their will, to fight the Demons and escape this place!

progress 01.png

Progress is slow, the Summon can't actually fight anything yet. Combat is for tomorrow, as well as upgrades (It's supposed to be a Metroid-Vania...) and further level design. At least everything is 'animated' and has some basic sound fx.

Couldn't code as much as I wanted to today, because ironically someone summoned a spider horde into my house - some spiders nest hatched and I've spent about an hour and a half containing the plague...

Quick update on our Puyo-like "Tower defense"

Its time for a break, so here's an update on our game. The Puyo-like part of the game is nearly done but the tower defense section is still missing. However, we are confident that we will finish it in time :D

Some soundeffects are already implemented and the music will be added tomorrow.

Good Morning! My first belated progress report

It goes without saying, the theme sucks, so I made very little progress at first yesterday as I pondered the theme. I don't want to do the obvious magical thing, but also "process server rogue-like" wasn't much better.

So I spent some time setting up my project boilerplate as thought about it. Eventually I thought it could be about a some sort of alien portal preparing for an invasion - you know, something that Jodie Foster might have been tricked into building in a darker version of Contact.

And then someone mentioned that the theme reminded them of Smash Bros. I have no real idea what that is, I'm not a Nintendo guy, but I suspected immediately that some sort of Tag Team may be involved. Tag Team! That's also a sort of summoning, init?

So now I have my complete idea: Robot that hack alien tech to 3d print different robots to solve puzzles to stop alien portal from being constructed.

Tools: Bevy engine, LDtk level editor, Krita graphics.

Day 1 Progress is Panda-ing along

After summoning our idea, we made good progress for the first day!

Now you can
marvel at the stars and explore the floating islands
and target other red pandas
and draw star constellations to... summon.. something

More will be revealed soon ✨

Day 1 Prototype

End of first day, we have a prototype of the first part of the gameplay. All done with placeholders :D

In this entry you place items on your summoning circle following instructions to properly summon a familiar. You must succeed multiple successive invocations with increasing difficulty.

End of day 1

Compo is going fine! :fire: :smiling_imp: :fire:

The band is together!

We've finalized the concept for the mystical arts that will go on the board. I personally like the one on the right better because it's sticking out its tongue—it looks like it's mocking, haha.

Time for an I'm in post!

Well the food poisoning I was suffering from earlier is now gone but so is half the competition.. But I think I'm going to try making something just for the hell of it  I've got the base mechanics up and running, and the game is quite boring, hopefully I'll figure out a way to spice it up tomorrow..

Welp ... they cant all be winners

Finished!!!! ... and its like ... kinda crap....

Like perfectly matches my notes, its just not fun as well as not haveing the depth needed for interesting levels, its all quite easy (apart from the "final challenge").

Here is the link, has like 6 levels and a "final challenge": https://reddashgames.itch.io/summonpin

(note debug/test stuff is still in there.)

Ludum Dare 55 #2

Day one is over! Almost all the game logic is done, I'm happy with the result. Tomorrow I'll make the krusta, and if there's time left, I'll make a couple more interesting features.

Day first of Summoning!

It was a nice day of colour exploration, nothing final yet but i do have a test level that i made in photoshop. We got from that

scene_mocap.jpg

And that colour scheme for our cuteltists

photoem2024-04-13/em17-11-32.jpg

To this as kinda a pallet that we agree on with a programmer

And this as a "well that works in photoshop so let's move it to unity"

sceneemto/emshow.png

Heh, that was a nice day, time to sleep and recover some power for tomorrow. Good luck everyone :3

All your summons in these games have to come from somwhere!

Our poor little worker cats (wonderfully artistic Godot faces) are having to work double time to create all these witches and demons for you to summon into your games!

Love this inbetween bit where graphics start coming in but there's still Godot faces all over the place!
