LD25 December 14–17, 2012

I finished my first Ludum Dare

So I was ready to just leave what I had in posts and say I couldn’t finish, but my fellow AGDG’rs kicked my butt and said I was crazy because I still had 12 hours left. I decided to not sleep that night and just make the game presentable. Cutting the features I wanted to put in and making the game winnable/losable. The result is this: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=17759

The Fall and Rise of Rome: Patient 0 A.D.

screenshot01

You are the first zombie. JESUS CHRIST. That’s not an exclamation of surprise, I mean Jesus Christ was the first man to rise from the dead. This is the origin of his rampage that led to The Fall (and eventual rise, like from the dead) of Rome.

What I learned: I was more prepared than I would have been if I didn’t sit down and work on my framework. I was less prepared than I needed to be in terms of looking to implement simple things that should have worked off the bat. The timing in my engine was flawed and it affected everything. The game doesn’t run at consistent speeds and one bug in particular cost me 5-7 hours just trying to fix, breaking my engine to a point where I was worse off, spent more time on 2 attempts just trying to get back to having One bug, and then just decided to cut the amount of times the bug occurs in half by making there only one way to kill a bad guy.

Cutting features was the compromise and saving grace of meeting the deadline. While I fully appreciate GLBasic, I didn’t know it well enough and it cost me. I will have to get some more experience with it. I literally used it for a short time back in 2011, bought a license, spent a week on this framework and then stopped for some unknown reason. I picked it up again 2 weeks ago, patching in physics, listeners, etc… I think next time I have time to do this… until I’m more experienced with coding, I may relax and Jam, providing my art skills to an online team or something. I know for sure, my lack of experience in cost me dev time as well as art asset time. I could’ve at the very least made this one-level intro more beautiful. Maybe I’ll go for Unity next time as that’s what I’ve been using a lot of lately.

As usual I uploaded random check ins to my Youtube playlist. Also planning on putting up a timelapse of every waking moment after I get it together into a video.

Man, what a nice suprise! I saw the screenshot of the Zombie Jesus on AGDG and didn’t knew it was for Ludum Dare!

The game is buggy (yes, you know that), but I reached the end and laughted hard. It’s a funny game!

Ready to Submit!

Huzzah! This morning I tried to make character sprites, but I figure that would’ve spoiled or mucked up the horrendous, David-Lynch type twist near the end. The code still exists for the little man and his haphazard animations, but its been dummied out.

It’s getting to that time again…

The number of posts per second grow exponentially.
The number of “done”‘s, “finished”‘s, “jam”‘s or “out”‘s in a single page grows even faster than the number of posts (per second).
Screenshots all over the place. And goats. Lot’s of them.

And here I’m, a mere contestant in this big and awesome contest.

And, to follow tradition, I’m done!

Overall I’d say that, if it run on your computer the same way it ran on mine, than I’m happy with what I’ve got.

Now I’ll go ahead and put a shameless plug here:

Wastes of time:

Spent about 2h on html5 prior to starting to use java.
Spent 1h thinking on “architecture” (And almost gave up because of that, can you believe it?)
Spent 3 hours alone thinking on a good idea (7h with you consider time I was coding and thinking) and I still don’t like it completely.
Spent more than 4h trying to get a good music, and it turned out tu be a 5 note music that probably won’t run on your computer (And I don’t know why.)
About 1h on browsing some old source code to remember how java2d works, another 1h to get the path to the resources right, another
1h on thread (of java2d) problems. And a bunch of other personal stuff.

It is done.

The writing got noticeable worse as I tried to cram in more events. Eventually I wasn’t able to complete even half of the ideas, but IT IS DONE.

My first Ludum Dare resulted in a game, meeting some really cool fellow LDers and a desire to learn how to draw.

Congratulations to the finishers, and congratulations to those who didn’t give up =D

Time for sleep … or maybe … maybe tweak the game a little more …

Necromancer going to Jam it.

Here’s the (unfinished) Game

Controls are left click to select unit, right click to move unit, middle click + move mouse to move camera.

I think I bit off bit too much. I had guests for the weekend, and started making really ambitious strategy game. It wouldn’t be impossible to do, but the distractions cost me good 8 hours of development time. Right now I’m in the middle of the putting the pieces of code together, and probably in couple hours I would manage, but it’s only one hour left.

So, I shall finish the game tomorrow.

Here are couple teaser screenshots, for where I’m at right now:

TIME UNITS!

Move distance

Hidden movement

I didn’t finish…

But I learnt a lot!

Yes, My game did not get finished. If I had spent at least 20 more hours on it I could have finished it . which I do have 20 hours but I have school tomorrow and those kind of conflict. But thankfully after finishing I thought back to all of my ambitious and  silly hard projects that I started and realised; thanks to preparing for the dare I can now proceed with My big main project! This was a triumph for me and I cant wait for school to go out for holidays!

Would anybody else be willing for a 2 week holiday compo? Sort of like October Challenge? Just drop a <3 or something so I can see if and how many people would want to. Either way I’ll be making a game.

Hostile Hostels is Complete

After about 1.5 total days of work, I’ve finally finished my second game, ever.

The point of Hostile Hostels is to put up really shady hotels to kill off roaming adventurers.  The game plays out like a simple tower defense  very similar to Plants Vs Zombies.

The player must learn to balance out the usefulness of created Hotels to maintain control of the area.  What begins at a meandering pace, ramps up in difficulty very quickly.  Your fingers will hate you 😀

You can access the game here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=18899

Give it a go!

What I’m happy about:

  • I completed my first Ludum Dare (woo!) and my second game, ever
  • I really like how some of my sound effects turned out (construction and hero groans)
  • The fact that someone actually beat it, which I thought would be impossible, this prompted me to make an actual win screen
  • First time dealing with HTML5 export and definitely won’t be my last 😉

Could have been better:

  • Didn’t have a good recording mic, so sound is a bit unfiltered at times
  • Art leaves much to be desired and is a bit cramped in certain areas

Last-minute bugfix and other things!

I just fixed a bug where the entities in the 2nd level would stay at the same x and y coordinates after you left.

I ALSO offered some clarification under the game about the 3rd stage which may be pretty hard for most people and increased the amount of time you have to complete the game from 100 seconds to 250 seconds because of the 3rd stage’s difficulty.

Firepower submitted!

Firepower is finished and submitted.

v6_6

I’m very happy with where I ended up.

Today: Music, start screen, balance, UI, restart, polish, submission.

LD Jam progress – Day 2 (Milestone build available)

ld25-2

Due to work commitments over the weekend, I’ve had little time to develop my game for the main competition, so I’m going to try to get this game out for the jam instead.

I managed to finish a milestone build today. Im this demo, you can move with the WASD keys, and steal money from other people by pressing SPACE (I will make this more challenging with a minigame I’ll implement tomorrow, I just wanted to get the basic mechanic into this demo).

Play the demo HERE

My first ludumdare so far.

so far, I have created a game with:

score

health

elephants

hunters

goats

lions

menu

this is for the JAM but, i dont want to upload it yet. heres the pictures also, i will be uploading a timelapse later.

Well that didn’t quite go as expected

Turns out a lot of stuff happened this weekend after all. Christmas- shopping, dinner with friends and family, a TON of snow fell which had to be shoveled and I’ve been packing for an upcoming trip. Thus, I barely had time to do anything the first day aside from some graphical stuff. Today was quite busy too but I have at least gotten a little bit done today.

The Idea for the game was that you play as a kind of evil ‘Illusive man’ who wants to do secretive world domination-y stuff. You never interact directly, instead you use your agents to bribe or threaten important people that will secretly supply you with resources, infiltrate enemy bases to steal resources or sabotage stuff, and frame innocent people to throw investigators off your tail (or even assassinate them). You’d start with 5 or so agents and you can only give an agent one mission per turn, you’d then do your best to secure a steady income and amass your own secret army, while staying as inconspicuous as possible. Initially you’d do this across a bunch of planets but I cut it down to one.

The game won’t be so heavy on animations and stuff since you’re mostly just looking at a world map with a bunch of icons representing different things. So far I’ve only made a couple of icons spawn randomly on the map. Not sure if I’ll make it in time for the jam but we’ll see. This is what It looks like so far:

Screenie

Fay: A “faylure” (post-mortem post)

The game premise I came out with was nice: you are Morgana le Fay, and must kill everyone in Camelot.

I had a reasonable design idea in the first 2-3 hours of the post; Morgana was going to have only two powers: Blinking and possessing her enemies.

Unfortunately t I failed to get something playable and finished on time. I made lots of mistakes that have contributed to this but the most important one (IMHO) was that I left the main gameplay element (possession) to the last. The second one was that when I realised that the game structure I had didn’t allow possessing the way I wanted, I thought “I will fix it in 1 or 2 hours…”. I should have adapted the design to the new constraint instead – “if Morgana can’t possess, maybe she can throw fireballs or something”. I obsessed over possession, and hours went by. I still have not finished it.

I don’t have pretty graphics to show, since I didn’t even start with the graphics (or sound); here is how it looks:

Screen Shot 2012-12-17 at 2.14.37 AM

The source code is on github: https://github.com/kikito/fay

I’m not going to post a .love file, because I consider it too raw for being playable.

My experience has been painful, and not very pleasant, to be honest. I’m not sure I will be back on future compos. But I’ve learned a lot, and even could find some places to improve in my own libs.

Good night!

Time

Unfortunately I will not be able to complete my game in time for the compo, so I will have to submit it for the jam.

Maybe I shouldn’t have watched so much YouTube :/

Well, here is how it looks like so far. The framework is done, but there are no levels yet besides a test level.

LD25_Update2

すみません!

おはようございます!

Sorry for not updating our progress yesterday, I was too tired D:

But anyway, we’re planning to finish the game by today (hopefully) and by tomorrow morning, 4 hours before LD Jam ends, I’ll have to upload the game already.

Progress?

– All important enemy AI is done.

– Stats and HUD drawn on screen.

– Inventory System fully completed with picking up items.

– Upgrade Screen.

– Updated Title Screen and Main Menu.

– More on animations.

– Easy to get around the rooms by either using mouse or keyboard only.

Yup, that’s all I have, but luckily we have done the AI and their animation so today we can start level designing 😉

Again, sorry for not updating…すみません!

End line!

The last hours of working almost killed me. Even if there’s another hour for the compo, for me it’s 2AM and I’m really tired.
Click the screenie to go to the entry page.

See you tomorrow for the dayafter post mostem, I don’t really have the energy to write it now.

Woorray!

Time to place a few sound effects and then test the game.

Worray!

Trainsaw finally done !

Just like every one else : DONE, FINALLY !

After those 48 exhausting hours, I’m quite happy of what I did, it’s not the best game ever, it’s actually kind of shitty, but it’s my first game, and game jam, so yeah, I’m happy

screenshot

I thought : who is the most annoying, the meanest and ugliest person in the world ? A train controller of course, my villain is a train controller, and a mean one, he doesn’t like people not to pay, not at all…

1goat6 There is a hidden goat in landscape, goats like trains

Game here !

Aaaaaaand…..submitted!

I really was hoping to give the game more content, but overall I guess I can’t be too unhappy.  It’s a quick little proof of concept which is hopefully quirky enough to entertain people for a bit, and that’s really what I set out to do for this competition (seeing as my last entry was basically unplayable).  And, of course, I always have the option to add more content later on if I feel this is an idea worth fleshing out.

Screen2

Looking around, I see a lot of interesting looking games.  I can’t wait to see what other people have come up with!

Tourist Trap is complete.

ld25screen4

Finished!  With a little under an hour to spare.  I got most of what I wanted to get done.  Sound effects, some more sprites (including a goat!) and even some music. I would have like to be able to add a little more visual polish, perhaps some more tiling around the edges of the platforms and some more levels but I don’t think I’d ever have had time for that.  Because there are so few levels the learning curve seems a little steep (the last level is a toughie), it’s difficult to judge these things when you’ve been play-testing them over and over again though.

ld25screen5

The music is pretty simple and appropriately dirgey for a game with a ghost protagonist. It was my first time making music for a video game as well as using FamiTracker. Despite it’s simplicity and irritating repetitiveness (you can toggle the music with ‘M’) I’m pretty happy with it.

ld25screen7

ld25screen6

I would have also liked to have more varied mechanics in the game, different types of tourists with differing behaviours. Perhaps some switches that open doors. Again this would have been quite ambitious for the time limit.

PS: Now with added goat :) (Check out the hunting trophy)

1goat6

Haven’t had much time but trying to finish in time

We are doing the jam, me and a graphic artist. Since the theme is You are the villain we are doing a reverse Tower Defense. You are attacking the tower so to speak

I literally coded all of the pathfinding, Ai, framework, ect.. in about 3 hours.

Submitted!

So, in the last four hours of the competition, I pretty much did a 180 and tore everything down before rebuilding it- the only thing I kept was the procedural generation, which retooled itself nicely. Now I have this, and I think it’s pretty okay while also being the first LD game I’ve ever completed (despite numerous attempts previous)!

HOLY CRAP I MADE A GAME!

CLICKZORS ON THE IMAGE TO PLAY IT!

So yeah, didn’t have time this weekend to whip up a serious LD entry, so I decided to spend a few hours and whip up something.  And so this is the result.

I did draw the goat image for the full game, that I recycled for the title screen.  G.O.A.T. stands for “Goal of Absolute Terror”, in case you wonder.  Or maybe that’s “Goat of Absolute Terror.”

First Entry

Well, so that was my first entry ever at Ludum Dare.

This weekend has become short! I could not work on the game on saturday, but I’m happy with the result .

Meteors: Look at them go

I had participed at the last Ludum Dare Jam with the friends of Indiesquish with a great sensation. http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=10871

I have participated on other events such as Global Game Jam, that I hope to join again next year, but Ludum Dare will be a must from now on.

Great fun!

I am finished.

My game is completely, utterly, unarguably, finished. I think that it might be the best game I have ever made too!

I know that I said that I would upload a demo earlier. I diddnt. I overslept last night, so I only had time to finish it.

anywho, its a platform shooter, unlike anything you’ve ever seen before (no really, the game is really….. odd)

enjoy it here

Tetrominoes Butcher

I’ve had some “real world” problems this time (blackouts and storms, 10 hours have been lost this Sunday). Maybe tomorrow I’ll be able to post the whole game in the Jam.

I spent most of my time procrastinating, but I got it done anyway!

LD25 Completed!

So amazingly enough, I managed to actually get a playable game submitted. I’m fairly impressed with myself for this being my first LD.

Review and comments coming soon, but for now my bed is looking particularly attractive.

Finally done. My first Ludum Dare entry. Me and two of my friends locked ourselves into my apartment for the weekend to work on our separate LD compo entries. Sadly one had to call quits earlier this evening because his tools failed him, and the other guy is still deadlining as I write. I however just submitted my entry an hour before the deadline.

Hope people will like it. Had plenty of fun making it :)

Not Quite There

After a hard push in the last few hours I’m sad to say that I won’t be able to finish in time to submit.

This is the first time I have entered Ludum and I went into this to see what I could really do in a short space of time. Even though I didn’t quite make it this time I have learned so much and I’m sure the experience will be extremely valuable in getting projects completed in the future.

Good luck to everyone who have finished and especially to those who are still working!

Thanks.

p.s. Tomorrow I will post a build of what I have managed to make.

That’s awesome that you had the exact same idea as I did. My weekend was unfortunately too busy with RL to participate. I really look forward to trying your submission 😀

It’s jam time

Sound trails

As predicted, I am not finished in time for the compo, and doubt I can get there during the grace period either. Spent most of those last two hours figuring out how to properly animate sound trails for my hero.

He can also see the villanous monster (if there’s nothing in the way and he’s facing the right direction) and react by printing “saw you!” to the Javascript console. Unfortunately, I don’t think this serves adequately as AI, plus I need to add a way to let the player and hero defeat each other as well.

Let’s hope I don’t run into any more technical issues and can get it all done in 24 hours!

Delve Deeply is finished!

Delve Deeply! (not a tower defense)

Well, it turns out I didn’t get any towers or anything implemented, but I did get my ambitious A* pathing algorithm finished!  Take a look at my submission here.

You start the game with some cash and a house.  You have the ability to mold the landscape by buying tiles, and you can spawn zombies that path toward the target location you can set by pressing X.  Zombies are damaged by spikes, and you get money for killing them.

I hope you have fun playing around with this.  It’s not a deep game by any means, but it looks like a good base to start something cool off of.

Special thanks to vanZeben for his video tutorials here that started me off with the 2D engine.

Submitted, now my head hurts.

DM’s Rule is now in. After a combined ~6 hours working on an AI bug, where I had to trash and redo it, and I got to spend another good 2 hours on that, it turns out that I forgot to replace an X with an Y… so yeah. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because I couldn’t put in all the things I wanted to put in. Oh well I guess. I thought about trashing this game and making a new one, “My last game made me so upset so I decided to punch some kittens/goats” But I stuck with this one instead.

Untitled 4

Finished game!

So I managed to finish myself a game for this Ludum Dare, which must mean that I’m more of a villain than an evolutionalist (Considering I fell ill the last LD).

You all better test my little world domination simulator now, or as I’ve lovingly nicknamed it: “MiLWaDS”

If you don’t have windows then I’ve heard it works well in wine, and I might have a possible linux build coming of it.

Timelapse will be put up as soon as it finishes uploading, and then you’ll be free to observe me sleeping half the time away.

A Villainous Victory

The night draws to a close, and what a weekend… construction of the laboratory was bang on schedule, and with a well oiled machine the pieces snapped into place. The final few hours really were worth the effort, bringing a mere scientific simulation into a fully realised story driven game.

A fuller, juicier Post Mortem will follow, but right now, all I can say is… I love Haxe NME… not only did it make writing and producing the game a joy, but with minimal effort I got the Android and Windows/Desktop versions built and online. Its a joy to be able to make a game, and then share it so freely.

ld25_10_dying

Test Subject Gamma – You are the Villain – Release R1

A Villain’s Demise

So its over again, at last. These hours just fly away! Its been an awesome weekend, and as always I’m looking forward to the next LD already. But hey, check out my entry!

mainSS

Basically you control a villain, which is.. overpowered by an even greater villain. In free-fall you have to struggle to stay alive! The original idea was to include a boss element, but that had to be put aside in order to complete it.

ss2

It ended up with a cool little endless platformer. You have to time your jumps, utilize the double-jump cleverly, and take advantage of a certain time-altering ability as you collect points, health and other pickups. All this while you’re dodging bullets and super-deadly razorblades emerging all over!

ss3

This time i clocked in 16 hours of development, and i even managed to create a timelapse video! The video will be uploaded shortly, but for now – play the game! Can you achieve a score above 1500?

So there we go!

All wrapped up nicely. I would have submitted earlier but I was trying to get my time lapse published, but it’s not happening right now.

I’m really happy about what I managed to achieve.

Firstly I’m happy because the game is complete and fun to plan.

Secondly I managed to try out new techniques like pixel art and particle emitters in Flashpunk.

Lastly I was amazed at how smoothly it went. I’m not sure whether it was just because of the limited scope of the game, or that what I was doing was just easier for some reason; it just felt great to participate in this competition making this game.

So a great big thanks to all the LD Admins, the developers / judges and the community at large for hosting a great competition!

… Now vote for my game!!!!! (whilst I go and sleep)

Pet Mr. Snugglebutt was made by JoeProgram in less than 48 hours for the Ludum Dare Competition #25.

Done and Done

It’s 2:45 am, I have exam at 9:00 am and I am just finished with my ludum dare 25. In this post I would like to summarize what went well and what went wrong.

What went well:

  • Lisp – great language, easy to work with in emacs, fast testing
  • Ecl – great lisp compiler, compiles to c and then directly to the machine code
  • Theme – fun to work with

What went wrong:

  • Windows – I spent 5 hours getting mingw running, compiling ecl and my game under it
  • No sounds / music – I can’t make anything decent, especially at such short notice

All in all, it was awesome fun. I hope you will enjoy my little game of strategy and evil.

Dungeon Inc.

In this game, you play recently graduated devil who has been entrusted with controlling a dungeon. Beware, heroes will come and ransack it, so guard it with monsters well.

This is how it looks.

22. Dec 2012 · 14:05 UTC
Thanks! Contrary to what everyone would think, lisp is great language for programming. Rapid prototyping and testing new features without even closing the game was something that was ideal for making a game.

Nevermind, I just downloaded your source and I am currently looking at how you did it. Just one other question, why ECL over picolisp or even minipicolisp? They are much smaller, although not full CL compliant Lisps. Great work!
14. Jan 2013 · 00:20 UTC
Well, I mainly sticked with ecl because I wanted to use it inside another c++ project. Since then on, I kinda stuck with it. It has great ansi compliance, but also includes very good additional stuff, like gray streams (clos streams). It was also nifty easy to set up with emacs.

Finally!

Well, I finally finished.  I didn’t get a chance to work on this at all yesterday, so I had to do it all this afternoon.  The end result is not pretty, but it’s at least functional.

You are the nefarious Dr. Grigori, and you’ve captured the famous secret agent Mr. Bont.  You’ve just finished explaining your plot to take over the world and set up his slow, gruesome death when his buddies break in with tools to shut down the power to your machine.  Luckily, you have a jetpack and a laser gun.
Play it here!

You might have some questions.  Why don’t the good guys just shoot you?  Why don’t you just shoot Mr. Bont?  Where am I?  I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know!

Who let the reindeer out?

My entry for this challenge has been submitted. The entry page is http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=15656. While it was a fairly simple game it still took me longer  than I thought it would so I didn’t have as much time for polishing as I would have liked. The goal is to chase as many reindeer out of Santa’s corral before the time runs out.

Finally! I can’t believe it, even my game is too simple compare to the others. I hope you can enjoy this 10 seconds.

Well, I didn’t get a chance to work on it more today like I wanted, but luckily it was at a pretty good state yesterday. Just skip the intro screen, nothing happens. 😛

Aaaand I’m done!

Such a great feeling!

After a bunch of almost-failed entries, this one went almost exactly as planned.

The packaging (I’m using python, with Cocos2D and thus Pyglet) went surprisingly well (at least, on Linux XD) with the new version of Pyinstaller.

Now I just need to fire up a virtual machine for the windows build. Then I’ll try to make an .app for Mac users!

I’ll also hit you with a full-blown post-mortem of the compo, and with my second timelapse video for which I’m still processing the images.

Cheers everyone! Get some well-deserved rest and be ready for the voting madness that is to come :)

LD25 – Run out of time!

I wasted a lot of time on engine stuff that should have been completed before the compo even began.

I seem to do this every LD. Oh well.

I’ll continue on with my game until it is finished however, possibly entering it into the Jam!

You’re not alone in this matter :)

Done!

I’m done! I’m not super satisfied with the results, but I’m done and that was the goal for this competition, to finish. I will later write a postmortem for this entry. Also I’m going to upload the timelapse soon!

All right! My game is submitted. At the last minute I added a simple betting mechanic and that makes it a little bit more fun. I even had time to throw in a little goat.

Check it out!

Next time link to your game. Good thing we can see it in your profile

Done!

Sirtet is done!

The AI could be a lot better if I had a couple more hours but it’s definitely not random and the game is playable.

I’ve decided to submit to the jam for 3 reasons:

-It requires an Arduino Mega (haven’t tested but probably won’t run correctly on the Uno because it uses slightly more than 2KB of RAM) which means (almost) no one will be able to play it.

-I might have broken a rule, not sure. I used a self-made library (a very simple one) without declaring before starting. I did share it on one of my posts.

-Since people won’t be able to play it I *need* to upload a gameplay video. Its uploading to YouTube right now but it’s 400MB and will take over an hour, which means I’ll only officially submit the game tomorrow.

That said the game *is* done before midnight and I even took care of showing my clock on the video for the sake of honor 😉

I’ll zip the source right now and upload tomorrow.

Submitted!

Submitted. My first time, so who knows if it will work (didn’t have time to even test stuff, as I finished at the last minute). Had a lot of fun, and learned a ton. Next time I will better prepare by doing the warm-up or something. Anyway, you can see it here.

I’m finished! You can play it now!

After 47 hours and 56 minutes, I have submitted my work! You can play it right here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=15753

I had a really fun Ludum Dare, especially this being my first. I hope to see you all in 4 months, assuming the world doesn’t end! 😀

My first LD submitted!

Yes! What a ride!

Little game called “I am the Bankster!” was born!

I had a lot of fun! I got a chance to learn lot of interesting stuff about game jams, and stress test my little engine.

Game also ended up quite nice! You take a role of bankster, and collect money from villagers(middle class workers…), until you are hunted down by occupy wall street activist…(witch wield swards for some reason…).

It sounds boring but it plays like action game.

(I also managed to record some sound! )

iAmBankstarShot2

Now lets rank same games!

The Cacophony of Completion

By the skin of my teeth, finished in time. I think there’s still a bug in the submitted version that stops “ambient” people from following their movement paths. But the game itself seems to play through fine.

Big congratulations to everyone that has made it.

8 minutes to spare.

I’m done. It turned out decent. I think I’ll stick with programmer art next time. Drawing is exhausting.

Go play and vote

Goodnight

Black Ops 2 sucks. Play my game instead.

In for the jam

Sadly i couldn’t keep up with the deadline for the 48h challenge, so i might as well try to submit the game within the next 24h for the jam challenge.
Despite the fact, that i failed to finish my game in 48h, i had great fun so far and made considerable progress.

I’m going to bed now. I’ll try to finish my game tomorrow, after getting home from work.
So long, have a good night, and congratulations to all participants who finished on time :)

24 hours to go!

It turns out working in a team doesn’t suddenly make everything easy. With all this school and real life getting in the way progress is slow, but at least we have a pretty game so far. I’m hoping to get the rest of it coded tonight and work on polish tomorrow between classes!

Because I was so late, i had to make this game goatless. I’ll post a goat version as soon as possible, after I’ve slept a little bit.

Hope you’ll enjoy this :)

NONEX submitted!

I think my head will explode, but I finally did it. Of course, it cannot be considered a final game.. the gameplay is poor, a lot of features were not done, the IA needs to be enhanced, and many parameters need to be tweaked.

But I did it! Ludum Dare is not a battle against the other competitors, but against yourself! Man, I feel exhausted..

Btw, my first LD!

PD: I didn’t know we had another additional hour for submitting.. ouch! pff..

Up to date

This is the first post but we actually started on saturday, SO I’m going to start updating the artsy part from now on.

This is actually my first LudumDare, i’ve heard about it before but never had the chance to participate. This one I’m on a team with my other two friends (Rudá & Rachel). Those two and me, Matheus (the brazilian art&sound guy of the team).

We were out of ideas but them BAM we got a nice little idea with Robin and his theft adventures to save the little penguins and wales from all the spilled oil. A (suited) guy comes to him asking for help, he needs the money the save the little animals i’ve just mentioned, and Robin comes to save the day! Steal as many bars of gold as possible as fast as you can (is this even correct?).
(/spoiler) the guy is lying to you (/spoiler)

the photo is inverted and overexposed but life’s too short to deal with those little things, oh well…

how many ‘a’s in AAAAAAH?!

My god I finished in the last minute.
At least I hope I finished, I think I checked if everything was working.
This time (my second big LD) I did it in 48 hours (HOORAY!).
But still not enough time for music (BOOH!).

No goats, because I didn’t know about that, but there is a cow.

Oh god, I see now that I have Flashpunk still in debug mode, I can repair that within the rules I hope?

anyway, I’m done, kaput. Must sleep now.

My 1st LD is done!

ScreenShot05

My 1st LD entry “Show me the money” is submitted. I worked with full sleep and meal in the 2 days, but still finished the game. It’s really nice to keep fresh all the time, so no more overnight Game Jam (Well, it depends.).

Finally submitted!

It’s in! It’s nowhere near as done as I’d hoped it would be, but hey, LD isn’t about having a perfect game!

I wish I had more time to do levels… Also, my musical inspiration this evening (well, now it’s the morning) was lacking. Oh well.

You can play the game here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=4920

supermaximo93_screen1

I might do a longer post tomorrow… But for now, SLEEP!

Cursessssss

You win this time, DEADLINE. You win this time.

Did not finish in time for compo. I will continue regardless and submit for the Jam.

I spent way too long on being horrible at art, and way too long debugging unnecessary things. Ah well, lessons learned… in theory.

Fortress Keeper submitted

So, went right to the wire, with the last half hour being spent solving web issues that prevented me from hosting the game – yay?

Anyway, it’s up now, will provide a more complete post later. Find what is available on my site here.

What’s missing from the game so far:

  • Any sound. At all
  • Any balance testing. Does gold come at the right speed? Are units sensible value? Is it easy to survive forever? No idea…
  • The contextual stuff I wanted. Actually taxing the villages etc, with the most you tax, the more pissed off people who up.

Still, second LD attempted,, first LD succeeded. Yay I guess!

End

Nah…This theme is hard to think for me I will wait until the next LD….maybe I shuld upload what I did to only vote some games…

Oh GOD

That really came down to the line, I was panicking near the end.

Anyways, the game is up. WHEW.

Train Villain entry submitted!

My entry is like “Pipe Dream” but with train tracks and goats. You are the villain, so you want to hit all the goats before crashing the train. I saw on the LD compo blog here over the weekend that at least a couple other people did the trains-running-over-things gag. Looks like we’ve all got slightly different gameplay, and I look forward to playing the others.

goat!

screenshot.

My entry “Train Villain” is a playable prototype, but I did not allocate enough time this weekend. I would have liked to:

  • animate the train sprite properly
  • add sounds
  • have a “win” condition to advance to next level (and increase difficulty)
  • Please try it out! Leave a comment, and I’ll play your entry if I can on my Mac. Thanks!

Finished Game: Crime Scene

Oh man! Toughest jam ever. Many things to do, but my game is at least playable. The concept is really simple… In a city square, there is one assassin. He kills civilians with a very sneaky gunshot, and he looks a lot like others civilian. You take place of a Detective, that can investigate the crime scene, mark your suspects and find who is killing every one. You have only one chance of accusing someone.

Input:

  • WASD or arrows – Walk
  • Left Mouse Button – Mark Suspect
  • Right Mouse Button – Choose your villain

The game is called Crime Scene, here is the main (and only) menu of the game.

CrimeScene_01

Here is some screenshots of the game. The second image represents when someone gets killed.

I think this is cool, could you push this towards something multiplayer related if you were to work on it more after the comp?
17. Dec 2012 · 01:50 UTC
This is the digital version of the Detective game. It will work really better as multiplayer.

And I couldn’t find the killer yet…

I heard the gunshot, people got starled and all, but the body disappear real quick. I think that would be better if you leave it on the ground with something that differs the dead from the livings.

Finished my first LD48!

This is really exciting. I honestly was not sure I could do something like this in 48 hours. The theme was really awesome, and the game was so fun to build.

Last minute additions include the ability to lose the game, which features three possible endings (collect them all). Also, some story setup and rules are now included at the bottom of the page. Last, but not least, the game has been moved to its own domain name. Check it out at http://friendoftokyo.com/!

Also, you can find my entry here: Friend of Tokyo LD48 Entry

And finally, here is a screenshot of the finished game in action to seal the deal:

prototype

Perfect! My second time at Ludum Dare and the second time I could finish a game for the compo! And this time it might even be fun to play!

I started off a bit slow, because I risked to try something out I never did before… character animation, but I think it worked out quite well.

I also never made such highly detailed models before, so it was quite a challenge! Especially those complex trees… But seriously, last time I spent all the time with modelling and texturing. I ended up having something that wasn’t even a game and looked worse than the low-poly, single-colored destruction madness I made this time.

I think I’ll write a post-mortem post tomorrow, but I’m just too tired today (although I slept quite much this weekend.. I took the whole thing quite easy).

Fire Simulator Returns: 2012: You Are The Villain: HD Submitted!

My submission!
Wow. I can’t believe it’s over – I feel like I got run over by a dump truck filled with happiness and accomplishment. This is it – Fire Simulator Returns: 2012: You are the Villain: HD. My first *real* game. And I love it like a child, albeit one that was let out into the world before I could teach it everything I wanted to.

Can’t wait to see the other submissions, but first I have to sleep.

Blast, I failed!!

I had to work on Saturday, and then spent the rest of Saturday playing video games instead of working on this one, because I somehow had the twisted idea that I’d be able to get this game up and running within 6 hours or so today

Actually I pretty good amount done

The plan was to make a tower defense-like game, where you can deploy units in whatever formation you want to protect your main character, while semi-intelligent enemies would advance from the left and attack whoever’s closest or whoever they could reach.

The challenge would be that you can’t actually create walls, so the idea would be to use heavily armored characters in the front to block as many attackers as possible without spending too much gold on the armored characters, and to put weaker ranged fighters in the back.

Here’s what I reused from the last Dare entry/attempts:

– Sprite-rendering engine using OpenGL ES 2.0 for Android

– App framework (‘Hello, World!’ type stuff)

– Touch-handling code

– Android/OpenGL text rendering code (renders text to an OpenGL buffer)

Here’s what I implemented today:

– Base class for fighting units

– Child class for your main guy who needs to be protected

– Child class for attacking units

– Sloppy workarounds for Java’s ridiculously stupid inheritance model

– Projectile parent class

– Melee attacking functionality

– Movement code (without clipping/pathing)

Remaining:
– Actual projectile functionality

– Building units (about a third done already)

– Displaying unit HP

– Displaying attack notification text that fades away

– Showing that a unit was attacked by flashing it or something

– Pathing/collision

– End game conditions

– Detecting unit death

What the… game?

So, I made a game. In a language I don’t know.
Two Souls is my very first flash game, coded in Action Script 3 in about 15 hours.
If you want to check it out, just click that image down there.

Two Souls

By the way, I didn’t mean to reference portal by the colors o.O

Postponing till tommorrow

I was going to submit to the compo, but I gained the rights to use some great jazz music by the producer, I’m opting for the jam route as the game is much better with this nice soundtrack.

My game is a skill based flying/platforming game with a bit of a learning curve. I’ve been told that it is almost as difficult as Super Meat Boy at some parts which is a great compliment. There are a lot of horrible hat-based puns too, delivered by a text-based narrator.javaw 2012-12-16 21-02-43-60

When you pop people they spew colors, covering the previously dreary stage into something a bit more interesting
