LD25 December 14–17, 2012

All done!

I’ve got another party to attend tonight (seriously, I think everyone conspired to schedule events during LD this time around), so I had to wrap things up a little early. I wasn’t able to get to everything I had hoped to, but I feel like I have a pretty coherent finished product. It’s definitely a huge upgrade from the last game I submitted back in August. Let me know what you think!

We meet again, Mr. Mond!

WeMeetAgainScreenshot

Completed! Here you are, your moment of glory. Mr. Mond is in your hands, disarmed and weak – go, explain him your Evil Plan! But keep and eye on him: good guys are not reliable.

I wanted to add sounds and better art, but I lost precious hours trying to learn how to do all this in ProcessingJS. I finally switched to Unity3D and well, here’s my entry! Enjoy! 😀

All done!

ss1

My entry, Paradise Island is complete! In it you play as the evil Dark Lord and must conquer the peaceful utopia of Paradise Island, and then hold off the Knights of Light with various traps, turrets and spells. It s a bit shorter than I would have liked, but I tried to keep it from getting repetitive.

Done! That was fun!

Despite lack of time I finished this crazy project. I’m pretty new to Haxe and Haxepunk, but I managed to make a pseudo-3d engine witch basic lightning and add some gameplay to it just for 48 hours. Thanks all!

And here’s my submission.

screen1

A frequent reminder

Well, this contest has once again reminded me what I failure I am, as I spend literally hours debugging such trivial things as “why aren’t my health bars displaying correctly”, constantly regressing old bugs, etc.  Sure, I have a Computer Science degree and I’ve worked in the games industry professionally but ultimately I can’t even tackle the most basic of tasks in any reasonable amount of time.  Why do I even try?

Ughhh

I just had the worst stomach ache of my life so far…  At least my entry is almost complete, although I will have to make an entire website to house the download… it’s doable…

A disappointing game …

I am absolutely not happy with what I have done so far. That’s why I have not polished it before submission … but for the event, I think it’s normal to show you what I have.

So, the theme was absolutely not my favorite, so I have searched for an idea for some times… and I finally came with a zombie game (how original !) but where you are the zombie and you have to contaminate (or kill) everyone else.

At the beginning I wanted to have a randomly generated map, but for some reason (all the maps are not playable), I have only used the generator to make some playable maps.

The goal of the game was to represent an atmosphere of fear, with a lot of dark and some lights where humans can head to. You (the zombie) are much more powerful in the darkness (and actually much faster), but are quite the opposite when you are in an floodlit zone. The game takes place before the end of the world (the meaning of the countdown), and you have to be quick…

What I wanted to have :

  • Humans can fight with weapons
  • More interesting AI

For the design, I’ve tried two sorts of design (zombie and humans), and since I’m not motivated with the game anymore, I have decided to keep it like that.

And to finish this post, I’m sorry I haven’t posted any update of my work … but I’m a little bit ashamed of it ^^

So here is the link to the prototype : http://revolugame.com/games/ludumdare25/.

Bank Job! Done!

My second Ludum Dare! Done! I’m fairly proud of what I managed to make, I hope it’s fun?

Also…plus1Goat… There’s a Goat in there somewhere 😉

well i am unfinished.

this has been horrific! i have got nada. just a walking person in 3d that can shoot tiny bullets.

Mister Misbehave – Finished

Ok, here’s my entry. I’d love to tell you about it, but I’m too tired to do so and I’ve an exam in the morning, so I’ll just give you the link so you can try it out.

I’ll certainly do a post-mortem in the upcoming days. This LD has been a success for me. :) While I couldn’t finish some of the things I planned to do, I managed to come up with a nice game. The only thing that worries me is that the difficulty might be a little on the easy side as the AI can easily be exploited.

Anyway, you play, you decide.

PLAY MISTER MISBEHAVE NOW!

The villain’s dream is moving to jam ;-( >>>> ;-D

Well here we go: the game is unfinished, I’m tired and need to get up early tomorrow.

About three hours ago pretty much everything I tried constantly failed to work the way I wanted so I broke down and borrowed some code from one of my other games. Since 10 minutes ago everything is working pretty well, but I’m still missing one core feature as well as some music and lots of optimization (i.e. bug-fixing).

Meaning: compo’s done (failed). Good luck to all remaining contestants!

But the jam is on! I will finish the game tomorrow as a jam entry.

Another night to dream for all villains out there. Here’s a last screenshot for today:

Done…

I am done, not the game. But I made… Something.

3.30 AM. I better go to bed. Going to think about it in the morning.

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=14211

No way

I only just started trying to work, and there is no way I will finish in time for the compo, probably not even the jam. Still trying to learn the basics as it is, but I’ll try to have something!!

Home Stretch!

Well, aside from adding some music (I already have sound effects though), and some particle effects that I want to add, but aren’t really imperative and a few other minutia, my game is basically done. I think it’s more fun than I thought last night – the graphics and stuff make a difference, I guess and somewhere in all the balancing I did, I guess I struck a balance, since now my idea of “You should decide between taking more artifacts and being more powerful now, and being safer in two rounds”. Here’s some pictures:

Done Now and Reflections

First of all, I have submitted: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=14147

Second of all, this was my second LD and now I want to reflect on some things.

Here is a list of things I think I did better with this LD:

  • I made a more fun and replayable game (The end product was better)
  • I had better graphics
  • I had less time-consuming bugs
  • I was more familiar with my toolset
  • I was more involved with the community and this website (commenting, posting, etc.)

Here is a list of things I think I did better in LD 24 (my first one):

  • I was more in the LD mood (I believe this is because I was following TheCherno on his livestream, unfortunately he wasn’t going in this time but if he’s not in in April I should watch someone else)
  • I learned more (It was my first time making a game in Love 2d, which meant I learned more but wasn’t as familiar with it)
  • I managed my time better.

Here is a list of things I want to do next LD:

  • Hopefully learn AS3 and Flixel/Flashpunk or HTML5/JavaScript and make it web-based next time
  • Be more prepared (I almost forgot about it this time)
  • Watch a livestream

Yah, that’s it. Hope everyone else is having a good last few hours of LD!

My job here is done!

So yeah, it’s safe to say I’m done, it’s not much, but it’s still something.
I wouldn’t say it’s bad, the graphics is nice, and there are sounds, but no music though :(

So you play as the evil boss that kidnapped a princess and turned it into a  .
Now heroes are coming to get you, and all you have is a gun.
There is no way to win, but to survive as long as possible.

If you interested check it out HERE
scr2or HERE.

Good luck to all those that are still working :)

This was…

Since the theme was not to appealing, i was unable to finish my game. However i started plans for a new game independent of ludum dare.

Almost done!

I have pretty much everything I want done. I’ll think a bit more and if i don’t get any new cool and doable ideas, I’ll submit. For now, take this: progressupdate2

looks better

Screen Shot 2012-12-16 at 3.28.24 PM

Ok, the game at least looks decent now, but it’s still not very interesting. I even added a nifty bg (it’s rain on the metal case of my bbq grill outside). It’s almost more of a challenge right now to figure out how to lose. And also I spent a whole lot of time working on the scrolling minimap yesterday and realized today that it’s not useful, so most of the map is just blank space. It’s still pretty cool though I think.

Anyways now I have like 2.5 hours left to see if I can tweak the gameplay and make it fun. Or at least add a little more interaction, it’s totally stupid that this is animating right now since most of the time the screen is not moving.

Here’s the link if you want to play:

Entry submitted: Bullet Hell Reversed

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=18318

So here goes my first LD submission. 😛   At first, I was trying to come up with many crude prototypes as soon as possible, and didn’t give art or other stuff much thought. However I was not well prepared and spent too much time testing basic functionality and fixing programming issues, and cutting out things I shouldn’t have spent time to make.

So this submission is kind of a prototype “bullet hell” game, but with playable side REVERSED. I was thinking will it even be playable or has any fun element in this. It turns out somewhat enjoyable as a proof of concept actually (though for a very short period of time). I haven’t got time to implement sound or make better art, though.

Woodcut Ted

Finally made it!!

my first LD entry ever is “Woodcut Ted

kg

a game where you play as a woodcutter trying to cut as many trees as you can without being caught by the ranger.

I could spend no more than 8/10 hours for the entire game so its very basical and incomplete..

btw i hope you’ll like it!

Nature’s Villain

This was one hectic Ludum Dare! Happy about what I ended up with. The game “Nature’s Villain”, is a strategy, turn-based game in style of “Advance Wars”. It also has certain influences from games like Battlfield 1942, where you have to capture & hold bases.

Check it out when you get a moment and let me know what you think!

To the game: Nature’s Villain

Now the real fun begins: Playing all your guys’ games!

Bach

Home stretch!

Home stretch; basically all that is left is that you have to be able to lose the game. I have a little less than 2.5 hours to implement that. Wish me luck!

Need a miracle to finish

So today was spent with family and now I have about 2 hours worth of schoolwork.  In a short amount of time the guest room that contains my computer will be occupied, so I will get to work as soon as possible with my school work and hopefully finish before the end of the submission hour.

The one problem with LD is that you are expected to cut yourself off from the outside world to deliver a fun game. I will probably submit a crappy game that only had 8.5 – 9 hours of work. I understand that there is the jam to submit my game to, but then I need to work on a monday after school. It seems that until I have much better coding skills it is hard to schedule to make a game.

Enough ranting I have 2 hours and 15 minutes to do about 4 hours worth of work.

F*ck it all!

Right, I’m sick of doing course-work surrounded by people doing a game jam, so I’ve decided to make a game as well. In 2 hours and 10 minutes. Time starts. Now.

Update #3

Heyo.

My last update probably. I have finally managed to make any actual gameplay into the game. However, at the moment you cannot win ( or lose unless you do very stupid decisions ) and the game really isn’t fun :( I still got couple of hours time left, so lets hope that I manage to improve the game a bit :)

How to be a Super Successful Politician finished

My game, How to be a Super Successful Politician, is as near as finished as I can get this weekend. I am a little dissapointed in how it turned out. I didn’t have as much time as I wanted, and motivation was lacking. But still good fun and had a blast being part of LD.

Check it out:

The weekend wasn’t on my side sadly but I’m here and aiming for the jam.

In the last hour I have made a tree with the pathways in the maze – levels are procedural ofcourse. Here is a picture of the tree visualized.

Bad Puppy: Postmortem

Bad Puppy by Chris Sanyk for Ludum Dare 25: You are the villain

I think this one ended up coming together ok.  It’s not much of a game, but I was able to turn it into something at least playable in the last couple hours.

This was originally going to be called Puppy Hitler, but I ended up changing course, and spent most of Saturday in a reflective headspace, thinking about the decision, and as a result I was not very creative or productive on Saturday.

What worked:

  1. Humor: I think I had decent humor in this game.  The title screen and endgame are good.
  2. Animation:really like the animation for the petting and wagging dog.  I like the color effect I pulled off on the score.
  3. Sounds: I used Audacity and a bit crusher filter to do voice samples that hopefully sound like 8-bit voice chip synthesis.  This was used for the bark and the “Baaad Puppyyyyyyy!” and the panting and the “Good boy!” sounds.  I think the only sound I created with bfxr was for the Start screen when you press Enter to start the game.

What didn’t:

  1. Humor: I thought my original “Puppy Hitler” concept was funny, and I still kindof do, but I can appreciate that it’s not the sort of humor that everyone would like, understand, or appreciate.
  2. Animation: The walk animation for the person character is passable, but I’m not happy with it.  I had a very hard time creating an even halfway decent walk animation, and worked on this a ridiculous number of hours that I don’t even want to think about on Saturday, and scrapped.
  3. Music: I was going to try to do some kind of music, but I had no idea what kind of music would create the right mood.  It feels like something is missing, just a little, without any music, but I think the other elements still work to create a silly mood.
  4. Gameplay:  It’s a pretty shallow game with not a lot of replayvalue.  Still, it was pretty fun to make it, and once I got past the point of having a test level, and actually implemented the (admittedly quite rudimentary) AI, it became fun pretty quickly.

I liked it anyway !

Progress!

I wasted the first 26 hours or so being indecisive about things. ): Having almost given up, I finally had a concrete idea as I was about to sleep. One very productive all-nighter later, I just to polish it. 😀

I Finished My Game, Waldo

So I managed to finish my super-simple game about a contract killer in a timely manner.

Here is the link for my entry: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=8403

The game was almost done yesterday, so I had a whole day to just polish it. Aiming really low payed off for me nicely. I just hope it won’t get too bad ratings due to its simplicity.

Unfortunately I still couldn’t make music for the game, I have to practice it before the next compo.

Here are some screenshots:

I see there a lot of games submitted already, I can’t wait to try them out!

And for those of you who are still working hard: Don’t give up! You can do a lot in 2 hours!

Finished! Sort of…

Two hours to go and I finally have a finished game. No sounds or music yet and I had to cut down on my planned cutscenes… but on the bright side, there doesn’t seem to be any serious bugs, so I can go and play a little with bfxr to at least add a few sound effects.

Two hours left and a serious bug

Where is the heads up display?

It’s visible. It’s at position (0, 0). It has the front-most depth. And it has a parent.

SO WHY CAN’T I SEE IT???

Edit: as soon as I posted this, I figured it out. It was visible, but the stuff inside it (its children) weren’t. Rubber ducky debugging FTW!

Zombies!!! Omnomnomnom

Zombies!!! Omnomnomnom

SO, I haven’t been able to actually get any work done for the Ludum dare because yet another event came up that I just had to go to, so now I have a little to no time left to make anything.

I’m going to something anyway.

Wow, I think I’m actually going to make it. Not that I’d doubted I’d finish, but the fun aspect of my game was a bit lackluster until the very last hours. Still has some minor collision bugs and lacks a real counter for scores, but it’s about as much game as you’re gonna get. And I must say it’s quite a gem as it is.

Feed my Frankenstein

And I’m done! I really didn’t think I was going to get this one in inside the deadline, but then everything just seemed to come together at the last minute.

Is it everything I was aiming for when I started out yesterday? Well, not quite but it’s pretty damn close. Considering yesterday was a total write off and I only started coding this morning, I’m really quite pleased with what I ended up with. If I’d had a whole weekend to play with, I think it could have been downright awesome.

So what’s missing? Well the original plan called for the local towns and cities to get annoyed with your predations and send armies back to your castle to try and stop your evil schemes. Having to worry about being attacked while your minions were away would have added a decent element of risk to the game that’s not there right now. It could also have done with a lot more time spending on balancing the combat mechanics.

That aside, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out – my pixel art skills have definitely levelled up from “bloody awful” to “basic” – and I’m definitely getting better at having something finished inside a tight deadline, which bodes well for #onegameamonth next year.

Right, back to work in the morning, guess I’d better get some sleep…

Oh wait – I should probably link to the game, shouldn’t I?

Here you go :

2 hours left

Almost done, but one of the main features is still missing. And also a title screen and all that is missing.

gottarun

Probably won’t make it.

Too little, too late

I have real sprites now and a hero wandering around, but I doubt it’s going to be a game worth playing within two hours. I’ll probably submit it as a Jam entry if the extra day gives me time to finish it.

Kind of ironic- in LD #23 I have a lame, barely themely idea but finish it comfortably in time, and this LD it’s the opposite. Oh well.

Finished, Sort of…

Well (I’ve started all my posts for LD25 with Well, 😛 ),  I’ve finished. As I was finishing i realized there really are no levels, just the tutorial and one sandbox. I’m still happy with what I accomplished though, even though some things aren’t noticable. The Web versiion seems messed and blurs and doesn’t play sound. no idea why. So i just have the dumb Gamemaker Installer thing. Or a workshop Link. Here’s a screen and some links:

Oh wow, I actually did it!

I’ve known about Ludum Dare for a few years now, and have always wanted to join, but never did for fear of failing. Well, on this first attempt, I managed to create a game! This feels unbelievably satisfying.

Of course, my game isn’t going to place highly or win any recognition, but who cares about that? In 48 hours, I created a game with a framework and language I’ve never used before, and managed to stick to a schedule enough to actually get a playable game accomplished.

Here are some stats from the weekend:

  • Cups of coffee: 12
  • Tracks listened to: 465
  • Lines of code: 1394
  • Game jams completed: 1

Congratulations to everyone!

Check out my entry here! (I really need to work on my game naming skills, I know)

Timelapse will be up soon!

Finished!!!

Yes I finally finished making my game! Woohoo!!

End of Day Two

What are you gonna do to this cat ?

Milestone 3 reached !! Yyayyy \o/

We’re a bit surprised to have manage to reach that point.

Some explanations: To interact with an element, building or NPC, press arrow_down, then to select an action in the message box, use the mouse. I know it’s not ideal, but we gonna change that later.

Soon Milestone 4: More actions, more NPC (a goat and a dog are coming soon), a nice begin screen, and a nice end screen telling you what sin you are depending on your actions in game.

Voila voila, we still have 26 hours for that as we are in the Jam. BTW, the team is Alice, who did gameDesign and Artworks, and myself for code.

‘Do not help the princess’ is Done!

I just finished my game, or at least I posted it.

In Gamesprites

There are somethings that missed in the game, but I loved the theme, and it was a little tough to get a good and simple idea.

The better part of this LD48 was that as a programmer, I think my drawing is really good. I always wanted to learn pixel art, and this jam was like a really good course.

I hope everybody did learn something really good like me in this jam =)

PS: And I forgot, here is the link for the game: http://t.co/PTvDjoWf

LD25 over for me

Well, I spent a vast majority of awake hours this weekend on my entry, and its now done, and submitted. Its my first LD, and I have really enjoyed working on a personal project so hard and using such a high percentage of my time on it, although frankly I doubt I could keep it up much longer (and not just because the GF would murder me).

I am glad I decided early on not to stress about art, or other things that always derail this kind of personal project for me as it allowed me to get a lot further than I normally would, and actually create something resembling an incredibly basic simulation game, which was my intent.

I also noted that the overall quality of my code rapidly hit shocking when the true ramifications of having such a tight time frame hit me, I wont say I’m ashamed of my code, but its not far off…

And in summation, great times had by all.

DONE! And a small rant on the importance of content :)

I’m DONE! Wow what a Roallercoaster of feelings!

This has been my first Ludum Dare (24 I did not even start the game :/) and I’m still processing my feelings! Yesterday morning I felt like “Wow, piece of cake!”, but god dammit what a hell of weekend (but I don’t regret any single moment!).

The first clear conclusion I got from my first LD is that one must pay attention to all game aspects, really, if you want your game to look like finished, pay attentiont to digital content. I’m not saying that it should be ellaborate, but it should be… cohesioned? So is good to implement good mechanics, but give time to create art and playtest!

Anyway, just sent the .rar for Windows (could not compile on Linux and Mac at the end, I should have tested before weekend, as everyone sais… test your tools!).

So after this little rant, I present my first LD project:

BAD MOTHA Nature!

Proud of handmade art hehe.

Finished my game!

Well I ended up hanging with friends last night, and didnt get home until mid day today, so I lost some time there. Still had fun with what I did create, and I managed to learn more about libgdx!

I don’t have screenshots here, but you can download the zip, unpack it and run the jar file to check it out.

Swann’s Game !

Hi.

I started this game 24hours ago, i slept, and i didn’t work a lot so… it’s pretty hard to understand, pretty ugly, maybe buggy, but i kind of like it anyway :).

There’s only a Windows version (sorry mac users).

The goal is to avoid fire, there is fire EVERYWHERE.

The biggest problem is your fire cursor and the fact that it record all your movements to create a fireball on the same path !

Pretty hard to explain, but i hope you’ll have some fun with it. (Hard version is the funniest version, but i think you should start with the easy mode to understand the gameplay)

ZQSD to move (if azerty keyboard) and mouse + clic is all controls you need to know !

Have fun !

Facepalm

Fail. Unity crashed and corrupted NGUI atlas files. Lost about 20 mins of work too (which is a lot in this compo.)

Not looking good now. Suck.

Having trouble thinking of a name…

Progress continues on my jam game, but I just realized a small dilemma: with just over 24 hours to go, I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to call this thing. If you want to help me out, take a look at the stuff I’ve posted and make a suggestion in the comments. (Credit will be given where it’s due, of course.)

It’s hot and fresh out of the oven: Terminal Killer!

Screen Shot 2012-12-16 at 4.49.49 PM

Terminal Killer is a very short (literally, you only have 100 seconds to complete it) game about sabotage.

I’m happy with how the game turned out: I got a black/white intro cutscene done, a timer, and the last stage done as well as a little bit of polish done since I last posted. At first, my idea was to make the game random, but I didn’t feel like I could figure out a fluid way to do that besides in the first stage (which IS randomized). I feel like I got most of what I wanted to done within the time period. Maybe if I didn’t sleep so much last night, I could’ve gotten a little more done, though.

HAPPY:

-Got it done

-Implemented a timer

-Has an amount (not a large one) of replay value

-Added a little cutscene

NOT HAPPY:

-Couldn’t make decent-sounding music

-Couldn’t get sound effects in

-Didn’t make the game as long as once planned

Well? Go check out the entry page: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=4396 or just play the game: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19849200/LD25.html

Finished my first ever game

I have to say, choosing to do my first ever Ludum Dare was a great decision. I managed to finish my game to a standard that I was reasonably happy with.

Being the first game I’ve completed I wasn’t aware of the work that goes into the final stages. Tweaking and finding bugs is frustrating at times.

Anyway, looking forward to LD#26.

My game is at http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=19054

Day 2 progress: Playable game!

The Compo is almost finished, and I’m glad to introduce you the Overlord!

My game is a small real-time strategy where you should expand your evil possessions, train skeletons and mutants, and destroy the enemy’s castle.

You can try the game and read instructions at my entry page.

What do you think about it?

Oops

Turns out I’m not capable of writing any sort of “light” or “happy” music. This doesn’t quite fit with the rest of my things. Or maybe it’s more of a thing of my sound effects and graphics being too light for my game. In any case, my music and other assets kind of disagree in mood. Oops…

I’m Finally Done

After missing a whole day because of school
i finally completed my game.

at first i wanted to do an rpg game but i didn’t have enough time.

Newest version here: Om Nom Nom

I added little AI fishies that swim around. Any fishies in range of your light will change their behavior. If they’re above you, they’ll go towards your light. If they’re below you, they see you for the monster you are and run away. How bright your light is affects how much they correct their course.

Press space to eat them when they are over your bioluminescent ball, and eating fishies causes you to get bigger.

Next step is to find the sweet spot of brightness–too close and too bright and the fishies will run away. Not bright enough and they won’t come near you. I want to make it a struggle to to get that sweet spot and not feel like angler-fish-murder-spree.

Today’s Screenshot

So we’ve been working hard today, got a lot done so I’m feeling better about the deadline. Some enemies have been updates, as well as new ones being created. The title screen is 70% done and work on the Hero character has begun. We hope to have a beta version up soon for playtesting before the final release tomorrow.

Cancel Christmas!

After a hard couple of days, I finally submitted my entry. In it you play an evil hacker intent on breaking into Santa’s Grotto and deleting the naughty list from his secure server (gasp!).

It’s a pure puzzle game, since I didn’t have time to add any enemies or dangers, but it’s a bit different to most puzzle games. I thought that since everybody rating my game would be a developer, I could tailor my game to my audience and make one that required a pretty good programming knowledge to pass various hacking challenges. There are challenges related to SQL injection, buffer overflows and integer overflows.
hardcore hacking

I’m extremely pleased with the result, but I’m slightly concerned that it might be a bit too hard, particularly if you’ve never looked at computer security before. Still, if even one person gets to the end, I’ll consider it a roaring success.

I hope by the next LD48 I will know enough to be able to beat this game :)

Game Breaking Bug Squashed!

So I went to demo the game to a few non-programmer friends who have not-so-great computers.

Before this time, I had only tested it on my supercomputer and a bunch of friends’ computers with mid-upper end gaming computers.

I discovered an issue with my camera tweening overshooting (which I was worried about and noticed small signs of before, but never fully fixed it.) I added four lines of code and submitted, and it all should be fixed.

As always, you can play my game HERE.

Give me a shout-out at @LPGhatguy on Twitter with feedback!
And as before:

You’re the boss! (Still WIP)

Official announcement of the game!

We’re participating in the Jam, so we still have time to finish up the game, but I wanted to lay out our idea!

The game: You’re the Boss!

The goal: Be a villainous boss. You can give work to people, and yell at them if their goofing off. The more work you keep them at, the more points you get! But be careful! If you give too much work, or yell at someone that isn’t playing around, they get angry, and you lose money! But if you don’t give them ENOUGH work, they start to compliment you, and you lose money! If you catch someone playing, they immediately go to the highest work load, and get a strike. Three strikes and they’re fired! (Constant points from a high work load)

You want to reach the amount of points to beat the level as fast as possible.

Implemented:

Movement

Giving work

Shouting at workers (and workers slack off once in a while)

Monitors show workload: green (really low), dark green (low), yellow (normal), orange (high), red (really high), broken computer (angry!)

Changes levels when you reach the necessary points

Health (money) goes down if you’re complimented or make a worker angry

SFX for when you get complimented, give work, or make someone angry

To implement:

More UI to make it clear when you’re shouting or giving work

WIN and LOSE scenario UI

Level balancing

Menus

New player textures

FINISHED

Play Race against the Machine here !

So it’s kind of a anti runner where you must shoot someone running before it reaches the end of the level.

It came out so good, and the last two days were really fun, I’m glad about that :'< (though I still don’t understand why everything worked so well ._.)

This LD was a really nice experience , I’ll definitely take part in the next one! (because there’s nothing more enjoyable than lots of sleepless nights YAY)

WE ARE COMPLETELY FINISHED TOOO

FINALLY WE CAN SLEEP

Finished except for sound, CRUNCH AUDIO TIME

I finished my entry Make It Black with 80 minutes to spare.

I’m very happy with the result as I kept it simple so had time add quite a bit of polish (or Juice) and the game is complete with ending level, in game info, difficulty buildup, ambient animations and even a goat. Screenshot below is of intro level.

Only thing missing is sound and I’ve got some good samples lined up so adding them before the deadline is my only goal in life right now. Good luck to all!

A title! Yay!

Hey, this is my second update. Not that I didn’t want to write posts, I just didn’t have anything to show yet.

But this has changed (a bit). I proudly presents… title screen! With… the name of my game! (yay, at last!)

Moreover, I have a goat! 😀

Of course, game will be available in an hour :)

Love the title screen. Very clever :)

It’s finished!

Noir Game is finished, with soundtrack everything working! You can play it already!

Just to note, my animation was made using the Pyganim module, since I used Pygame for the entire project (and the awesome Sublime Text 2! Really, you should try it!)

Slay those Paladins! (I finished!)

Finished! In fact, I finished because there was nothing left to add!

Mon Dec 17 13-30-19 NZDT 2012

It’s a kind of beat-em-up/hack-and-slash platformer except with a goal in mind: Corrupt the planet with your chaos powers. The last level is quite challenging too. Even I haven’t won it yet, and that’s only level 7. If you make your own maps all the way to level 16… you will get pwned.

Yes, that’s right, you can make your own levels. From images. All you need is creativity and a painting program.

Check it out here

Have fun slaying paladins, using special powers for evil, and ultimately, poisoning a planet to the point where everything dies and chaotic forces block out the sun.
Oh, and there’s lots of blood.

ENJOY!

DONE!

All right, another Ludum Dare finished! This was my third. Damn, am I proud of what I’ve made! It’s got some problems with balance  I guess, but apart from that it feels like a really good game! Now it’s up to you guys to agree/disagree!

Like a victorious soldier lying exhausted on the battle field

I did it! With only a few hours left my game is done! I feel like a victorious soldier lying exhausted on the battlefield.

I really impressed with how much I’ve managed to squeeze out of these 47 hours. It’s amazing. I’m really tired and glad. Think I’ll sleep for two days straight :-)

Here’s my submission.

Dammit, Java!!  Why can you not override member variables??

Evil Dudes Need Evil Towers [COMPLETE!!!]

Phew, about 1 hour left !!!

The game takes place in the past.

You want to be evil and the Evil Master of the Evil Clan
looks at you but at the same time he looks at the beautiful
waves behind you and deeply smells the salty scent of
the infinite sea. After a long pause he says :

“Dude, TRULY EVIL PEOPLE need a tall EVIL TOWER.”

Find the entry here. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Cure 48 – FINISHED!

I finished early! WOW! Now I’m gonna spend the rest of my prep time getting a web/HTML5 version ready before submitting. Then… some MUCH NEEDED SLEEP. Been up for nearly 24 hours. UGH.

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!

Posted!

Since I have been working with Objective-C/Cocoa, there is no windows build.  :(  Sorry folks.

Other important point:  I forgot to include the source with my submission!  It is here:

http://laaph.com/downloads/ludumdare25/LudumDare25.zip

Special thanks to http://superpixeltime.com for helping me out with my excellent programmer art!

My other question is, I have included a goat in my game!  How do I get a cute goat icon?

Noble Weapon – Done!

After a hectic all nighter and several hours on top of that, my entry’s done. It lacks background music, but I’m happy with how all of the other assets turned out. The game could probably use some balancing in terms of how good each ability is as well as the game’s difficulty curve, but I’ll leave that stuff to post-LD edits. For now, sleep. ¦)

For now, I just want to sleep. See you in some days for the timelapse and the post-mortem ! That was great anyway, totally waiting for the next ludum dare 😀

Edit : here’s the timelapse !

Looking like a real game!

My game’s finally looking like a real game and I think it’s actually kinda fun if a little difficult!

gamescreen

I doubt i’ll do much more to it now, aside from tweaking some variables and shifting some pixels!

Playable from browser demo: http://joeaxon.co.uk/projects/ld25/

Controls: Arrows for movement, ESC to pause and some other stuff!

Objective: Mug and deal your way out of debt before the time runs out! Watch out for the police.

Maybe I should keep this bug
