FINS or The Metaphorical Shark Game

shark

So we’re doing it! I’ve finished the outline and started a sprite for this thing. As always, because my mind loves to over complicate everything, this game will feature real sharks and metaphorical ones legasp! Will be using Ren’Py and yup. Now to sleep and get back up to write-edit-draw-cry-collect-program not in that order of course ^^

Title: FINS

Synopsis: It’s 2046 in an average coastal town, and Anna-Marie thought she’d be spending her break partying it up in warmer waters. But, instead, she finds herself in a den full of cold-blooded lunatics. Because of one, minor, slip up involving letting her best friend alter a grade, resulting in her owing him big time for it… Anna-Marie has to dig up some dirt on the local big bad business in town if she doesn’t want her professor blowing a gasket. The only problem is that snooping around in a major corporations graveyard is never a good idea, and when she stumbles upon some very big and very, very illegal information, Anna needs to think fast unless she wants to end up sleeping with the fishes!

Characters:
Annamarie 1.0
Anna-Marie Gutierrez: A young freshman in college overwhelmed, under-employed and suffering from a severe case of apathy. Due to an ‘incident’ involving her best friend fudging a grade for her, she has to uncover dirt on Tributary Inc. and finds herself way over her head.
Logan Cho: The resident all-around activist and genius in the making, he’s passionate about uncovering all the dirty deets on Tributary Inc. and publishing them up anywhere and everywhere he can.
Experiment F-2V or Fien: A highly, highly illegal Splice Anna-Marie encounters while uncovering the Inc.’s secrets. Splice being a slang term for humans genetically crossed with another species. In his case, you guessed it, a shark.
Big White: A local loan shark and small town gangster, that is working in step with Tributary Inc. to cover up what they don’t want to be known to the public. Is harassing the Gutierrez family over past due loan payments.
Tributary Inc.: A shadowy, international organization that participates in some highly unconventional activity behind the mask of a family-friendly corporation.

Sky Hawks is Complete!

Every year, for the past 3 years I have used the October Challenge as a way to motivate me to finish Sky Hawks. I originally started this game to teach me how to use Unity. I learned a lot of hard and soft development skills. I will be forever grateful for that. After 3 unsucessful attempts, I’m releasing this game as a free vertical slice. It’s currently free on Itch.io. I’ve had a lot of fun making this game.  It feels good to mark a game as ‘done’.

I ended up cutting a lot of content. While this was painful, I realized that I could either work on this game forever, or I could pursue some other projects. There’s stuff I’d want to add, but it’s time to just finish things.

Finishing is a skill, and it is a state of mind. This game is done, for now at least. Anyway, even though it’s a day late, would you mind giving it a play? To complete the challenge, feel free to tip me a buck. Thank you to this community! It pushes me to try to be awesome everyday.

Sounds puny haha! Can’t wait and good luck.

Recapping my last extremely busy month(s).

I have not pertispated in the last ludum dare or any game creation/development events because of how busy i am (i dont think you guys care but, might as well). I recently started High School, and have been busy with varsity soccer and some Honors/AP classes on top of that my girlfriend has been taking up most my time (and money…). but we recently broke up (after about 5-6 months) she was cheating on me. Then my grades started to drop and i was not allowed on the computer at all, on top of that i had and still do have soccer practice from 2:30 pm- 4:35 pm. Game development is not my main priority or something i need to focus on at the moment. but enough of that, here is the good news recently, everything has kinda died down and i have had a lot more time to focus on my favorite thing, making games and i cant wait to join you guys in irc and get even more involved in the community! Cant wait to see you next ludum dare.

Yay for Sharks in Cars!

Yay, this is my first ludum dare and…. I’m doing solo! [because noone has time, I’d like someone else working with me]

CarDonk

that’s the sound cars make when they collide. I’m making a top-down derby-racing game.
Therefore my game is called CarDonk.

So yeah… I’ve never really finished a game, so I hope the Mini-LD is long enough for me to comp(l)ete.
I hope I’ll be back in the december jam with some friends.

So far I have cars and an awful tileset.

I’m working with HaXePunk and will probably be able to ship to windows, linux and mac!

Let’s hope it works out.

Sharkastik

I’m in for Shark Jam, and following a friend’s suggestion, I’m also making the game under the constraints of GBJam. So here’s the first screenshot of “Sharkastik”, an infinite swimmer. Yeah I know, not the most original idea :)

October Challenge: Waiting on Desura, meanwhile.. itch.io!

Hey everyone! I’m stil waiting on Desura to get approval on publishing my game on their website. Meanwhile I’ve uploaded my game on http://itch.io.

Buy the game on itch.io!

HOX is a turn-based tactical game. It’s origin was the idea for a board game. The number of steps you can take is based on the opponent’s square anti-clockwise from you. So if Green stands on 2, then Red can do 2 steps. Everytime you move, you leave a colored square behind. You can’t land on these, but you can move over them. If it’s your turn but you can’t move to anywhere, you’re dead. If only 1 players is alive, he wins the game.

HOX provides a fun single and multiplayer mode. If your friends aren’t around, you can also play against the computer instead. Each level is randomly generated, so every level is a new experience! Try to out think your opponents and be the last one standing!

HOX is DRM-Free, so share the game with anyone you like after buying the game!

Yeaaaaah, Shark Jam!

Shark-themed Jam?
Hell yes, I am in.
shark_motorcycle
Maybe this guy will be in my game?
I haven’t decided yet. Sharks! There are so many possibilities!

project.offTo(good_start);

MiniLD46_Screenshot_1

Well, I’m making excellent progress on my entree into the SharkJam, right now it’s just a shark firing missiles. I plan on making a top-down arcade shooter base in an underwater city. The shark fires missiles pretty well, but it causes a whole lot of lag for some reason. Therefore I think I may replace the missiles with raycasting and particle effects; Then I could call it “Sharks with friggin laser beams” instead. I have also made another model for one of the enemy types :

Snapper_Photo

I also have a nice underwater shader (DXStudio calls them “effects”) in there.

A demo already??

Capture

Yes, I am making RAPID progress on this game. I even have a playable game demo ready, and all I really need to do is tweaking. Seriously, I underestimated how fast I could make things with DXStudio, I may have try to be a little more ambitious next time. Just a little. Anyways, here is the EXE for all to enjoy AND NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT THE FINAL RELEASE, THIS IS JUST A DEMO.

We Have a Thing!

Hi JT-Games Here. We are taking part in the MINI-LD and we have something! A thing!

We Kinda took too long setting stuff up…. So anyway this is all we have!

Here is a quick screenie:

screenie1

Progress has been made

sharky

There are still a lot of things left to do, like adding a water effect (the shark is floating above the sea floor on a cushion  of air right now!), but it’s pretty great so far 😀

Also, I should probably add a goal and fix his tail in the movement animations 😛

I’m exiting the Shark Jam…

I have too much real life stuff going on at the moment, and I’ve already lost about a day.

I’ll have to walk out of this one, guys…

Sharks arrr awesome

A bit late, but Im joining the Shark mini ld, let’s make wonderfully gritty and disturbing games with sharks! 😀

Sharkastic

hlhs_screen1

After 1 day of development, I decided to show this one screenshot from my game. It is my first game jam, so I’m little bit jittery. But I’m enjoying it so much.

I’m coding in javascript, using html5 canvas, which I completely don’t know.

Yeah, it isn’t mistake. Shark with gun.

Update on CarDonk

Okay, my first 24 hours (timezones etc.) are over, and so far I’ve made good progress!

I have two driveable cars and collisions between them, as well as a tileset.
I need:

  • moar cars!!
  • at least one map
  • logo / header
  • intro and death-sprite so I have more sharks in this game
  • actual gameplay elements

Should you be a pixel magician or a veteran top-down vehicle coder (or in any other skill level between nothing and those two) and / or willing to join me for the second day, please contact me either on twitch.tv or by commenting below.

twitch lurkers, pessimistic and optimistic critics and everyone else welcome!

epic shark car

Shark Em Up has progress!

So, day 1 is over, but before i go to bed i will walk you through my game so far!

It’s a beat em up side scroller where you first customize your shark (which affects different things; speed, damage, defense), and then beat the shit out of other stuff, so far i have the generation screen mostly done, and basic artwork done. Tomorrow i will make the actual fighting! Hope everyone else is having a great time, see you tomorrow!

Progress?

I finally have an idea and decided to keep it as simple as possible. Currently, I’m trying to get the mechanics and controls in working order before I move onto graphics and audio. Audio and graphics will follow the same idea as far as keeping them simple.

Hopefully, I’ll have something to show before the day is over and it’s somewhat enjoyable as far as gameplay goes.

Sharkdare midway post

I wanted to make a quick post about my game so far. I have kind of settled with a first person shooter with some evil sharks you must destroy. I might call it something like Shark Attack 9 from Outer Space. I have two sharks so far, one that is just a shark that will go around the map. I might add some guns on his side later. I also have a shark that wheels around on a cannon that will fire at the player. So far I have the basic physics that let the player and the enemies walk around any arbitrary curve. Right now I am just using a sphere for the level, but I might try and create a more interesting shape later. Plus I will try and make it more sea themed or something.

I also created the basic gun for the game. It has a normal shot just by clicking, but by holding down the shot button the orb bullet gets bigger and I will hopefully make it deal more damage. It also has some bounce effect to allow bounce shots

sharkpic

Unfortunately my heart is not into creating this weekend, but I am trying to force myself to put out something. Hopefully I can create something somewhat fun and complete by tomorrow night.

sharkCannon

OMG I NEARLY MISSED THIS MINI LD

Wow, so glad I just checked the site.

Shark theme sounds awesome. Why couldn’t an actual ludum dare be that cool!

No idea what I’m going to make yet but I think it will be based about sharks getting revenge on the evil, evil people that take part in shark finning.

The sharks are going to have metal fins and jet propulsion.

Shark Jam Progress

Shark jam has been tight – ironically – I’ve spent a quarter of the first day of jam laying block wall for a pond. Luckily I’m using LibGDX, Opal, Demina, and whatever random existing code makes sense. Opal is really making the process faster than I’d expect.

Main menu (title is a working title) – everything except the title and background move (the fish buttons wobble and the seaweed waves back and forth):

Pistris Main menu

For the time being I’m referring to the project as “Pistris” which is apparently one of the ‘two thousand’ latin words that can mean shark. I chose it because it’s cuter and more feminine sounding than anything else I found.

Pistris is an adorable anthromorphic Lemurian shark-girl exploring her abandoned home-land that she’s never seen. Shoggoths and Old-ones to be found.

At this point it’s mostly about testing that the code I’ve written works and creating/finding the graphics and sound to make it all happen (main character is about 75%) while filling in the puzzles and implementing the bosses.

Target quota is for 4 or 5 regular enemies, 3 bosses and 8 maps, 4 of which have puzzles and the other three are for exploration (yes I said 3 – not 4 – that means 1 secret level hiding around). Trying to make the puzzles have multiple solutions where possible (ie you can grab the invincibility Starfish and just ram through the hopeless gauntlet or you can find the Quad-Damage and just gun your way through – similar though different ways to get to through a “you’re screwed” situation.

In research I’ve learned that apparently no one has ever drawn a Shoggoth in its’ home environment (which would be underwater).

The biggest time sync so far ended up being screen-filters tied to area triggers which I’ve stripped out and replaced with a much simpler approach that should still allow for a fair bit of dramatic flare as you navigate the underwater corridors.

Shark Jammin

Had a great first day, here is a screenshot of what I got so far:

Good luck to everyone throughout the rest of the weekend!

Shark game posted

As I am pretty sure I will not have time to work on improving my entry during Sunday, I have decided to post it, as it is relatively complete, if quite bland…

0h Jam Timelapse

I participated in the 0h jam by making a game where you collect blue squares while avoiding red rectangles.

Here is the timelapse: 0h Jam Timelapse

I’m going to go catch up on sleep now so that I can finish my Shark game! Night 😀

12 hours left, panic mode!

sharkToday is my birthday!

OK, this is going to be tricky. But I can do it, right ? I had to start everything from scratch twice now. I got some parts of the game working, but I really need to improve graphics and do some music. I think I’ll do everything with my voice, I don’t have time or talent at all to do stuff on any software. Anyways, I still don’t have a name for Sharkie and I went a little bit crazy last night. I’ll be glad to sleep, tonight.

Love you all, keep doing awesome games.

CellSpace: cellular automata game engine, v0.2

For a long time I’ve had plans to create a game engine entirely based on cellular automata which is universally applicable to different game genres.  Somehow I never got round to it, until now.

Cellular automata (aka cellular spaces or CA) are found in various games.  For example, games like the powder game and sand physics games can be built using CA. It can also be used for simple fire and water physics, as is for example found in Minecraft.

There have been several attempts at CA game engines that I know of.  There is Rocks ‘n Diamonds, which is a sort of ultimate Boulderdash clone where you can define your own rules, Hacktile, which is probably the closest to what I want, but is very old and seems to have been abandoned, and the recent Puzzlescript, which looks like a promising project, but not targeted toward action games.

I created my own CA engine called CellSpace, which is just now in a state that you can actually define a complete game with it.  It still has many limitations, but in the spirit of “release early, release often” I released a first version with a tutorial and two example games.

Screenshot-candycane-2-crop-sm

Candy Cane Dash, a Boulderdash-like game with some interesting game mechanics written in CellSpace

As an example of how it works, here’s how you specify falling and rolling boulders, Boulderdash-style:

boulder1

boulder2

The 3×3 grids represent 3×3 tile areas on the screen. Left is the pattern that it tries to find on the screen, and right is the pattern it rewrites to when it matches the pattern on the left.  Black squares indicate “don’t care” values, grey ones indicate an “empty space” tile, and the boulders represent “boulder” tiles.

At this stage, you can define a game using a textual language called CellScript.  I’m still experimenting with the engine’s expressive power vs ease of use, but I already found the current version enables easy creation of various interesting game mechanics.  Ideal for whipping up a prototype of an original puzzle/action game.

Check out the CellSpace engine, including two examples and a tutorial.

OK… now I have this little idea involving fish and CA style water physics, so let’s see if I still have time to create a shark game for MiniLD #46 with this engine!

October Challenge 4 — Another way for devs to make money!

Hey, I’m jefery5678… I’m sort of new to this whole Ludum Dare thing… anyways, I submited my game, UFO: THE SEARCH FOR COWS to the October Challenge 4.  The site that I posted it on is called Game Jolt (http://gamejolt.com/). Technicallyall of the games on Game Jolt are free to play, but the site owner gives every developer 1/3 of the profit he makes off of the adds on my page. So far, on jst UFO: THE SEARCH FOR COWS I have successfully made 5 cents… (I submitted my October game on the 8th) Through Game Jolt, ever since I signed up in like April or March of this year, I have made a successful dollar off of all my games combined… the thing is, my games to have many views/comments/downloads/ratings as these other games on Game Jolt that people get a couple hundred – maybe a thousand bucks off of a game that doesn’t even cost money for people to play… so I just wanted to  share this with the community because it’s just another way that indie game devs can make money (very slowly, but still money). So go make an account on Game Jolt.

I’m in! (And late!)

I’m kinda late but… I was messing a bit with Unity3D and 2D Toolkit, and decided to do something simple for this jam, while I learn it.

Will I be able to complete a game? I hope so. Anyway, my tools will be Unity 3D, 2D Toolkit, Paint.net, Inkscape, and anything I can use to make sound, if there’s enough time. Wish me luck!

Shark Hunt is done!

Even though this was a mini-LD, this is definitely my best game so far! I proudly present my work:

screenshot4

In Shark Hunt, you are a shark who hunts fish. You must avoid starving, while avoiding extinction by the fishermen who hunt fish and sharks with harpoons! You can slow the extinction by tearing apart the boats, which your shark comrades will help you with.

At the end you get some stats, a score, and a rank. Play it and let me know what you get! http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-46/?action=preview&uid=15753

Shark Jam aftermath

I just finished my mini LD #46 submission “Bloodshark”.

shark1

I was a blast to make and hopefully ya’ll have fun playing it!

Here are some things I wanted to add but didn’t have enough time to add:

Unlockable sharks

Cruise ships that could crash and spill lots of people into the waters

Giant Turtles

Giant Crabs

Shark Hunters that tossed electrical traps into the water

Oil rigs that could spill oil everywhere

I tried to fit as much in as I could, next time I’ll work on some time management.

PLAY

Shumping

I finished Shumping as part of a continued foray into the world of learning Unity. Here is my entry page.

ss4

There are two central mechanics in addition to the standard platforming ones. The first is that your character can stand on water and pressing down (or x) allows them to jump downwards. The second is that going through portals changes the rules so you can now fall through water and jump about two times as high.

There are a lot of things I would like to add and change, such as the “please kill me” design of the main character and almost complete absence of sound, but of course this is how a 48-hour game works. It’s a concept I wouldn’t mind returning to in a less rushed manner as I could see some interesting platforming being made with it.

It’s done!

Screenshot01

That’s what I could do with the few hours between deciding to join and now. It was fun, I learnt a lot, and got some experience with Unity3D and 2D Toolkit. As an unexpected extra, also discovered cgMusic for procedural music generation. As an extra, it’s my first time doing everything alone on a jam. Oh god, how I appreciate artists a lot more, now.

That was fun!  I can’t wait for the next time! You can play Swim for your Life here.

Shark Hard II: Shark Harder

Entry link: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-46/?action=preview&uid=21137

This is my second LD entry, and I can’t say I’m dissappointed with the result. In the end I massively ran out of time, and finished it literally last minute, so a lot of planned features where missing. But at least it’s a somewhat complete product. Just like last time I spent way too much time on polishing and graphics, and because of that I didn’t have a concrete gameplay idea until +- 36 hours in.

Despite the stress at the end it was still an enjoyable experience building this silly game. Can’t wait till December 13th!

Sharkorghini

I was too tired last night to write anything, here is my game:
Sharkorghini

Click me to play!

The premise is that you’re a shark that has been finned. Shark meat is pretty much worthless, however shark fins are worth a lot. So certain fishermen catch sharks, cut the valuable fins off, then throw the still living shark into the sea where it can’t swim. It dies.

Sharkorghini was victim to such an atrocity. However he was saved and given fins and a turbo engine to get his revenge.

The game didn’t get as far as I would have liked. It is currently an endless runner. Don’t hit the mines, eat boats.

After each wave of mines you’ll speed up. I didn’t have time to add in-game ui.

Nevertheless it was fun. Also it is the first ludum dare game that I’ve put a menu on.

Sharks was an awesome theme. Hopefully December’s ludum dare comes close.

♥♥♥ shark amie ♥♥♥

ENTRY HERE

It’s already in the description but I’ll write it here as well : basically, I took part in the Art Game WeekEnd this weekend (we made this : https://vine.co/v/hjg2Te7a1we), but I really wanted to take part in this jam too because SHARKS. When I came back home , I saw the deadline was smoother than expected and that I still had 3 hours to make something. So here you go.

GOD I AM SO TIRED. FAK.

AT LAST!

sharkiSharkinacho in space!!!!!1

I’ve spend all night coding this game, and at last, here it is. Let me introduce you to Sharkinacho!

It  has been an incredible experience. I’ve been struggling for hours, but, I had a lot of fun, and I’ll do whatever I can to take part in the Ludum Dare which will occur in December.

I’ll later on post a What went good/What went wrong about the game making process, I’m just waiting for some feedbacks from the game… and some well deserved sleep.

I love you all, I can’t wait to play your games.

Flush the Fish: cellular automata water physics game

As promised, here is my second game written in the CellSpace cellular automata game engine.

In Flush the Fish you have to guide the fish to the bottom of the screen by blowing holes in the walls with bombs.  But you have to make sure they do not get eaten by sharks!

This is a water physics game based on the idea of having different kinds of creatures swimming in the water, interacting with each other.  I’m not used to creating levels for puzzle games, so this is a novel experience for me.  I started on Sunday night, and got to create 5 levels before the deadline.  Anyway, I really wonder if you like the puzzles.

Shark-jam Failure Post-mortem

My first LD of any kind and I missed the 12pm deadline.

sharkjam2

What I did wrong

  • Under-tested tools, I wrote the Demina and Opal readers for LibGdx myself – this is the first time they’ve been put to the test. Demina was no hassle, but my implementation of the Opal reader made for a considerable amount of work. Some poor design decisions in custom entity handling lead to constant crashes that while easy to fix were just as easy to miss (thankfully, the crashes were all obvious)
  • Using Box2d was a bad decision all around. I explode the jellyfish and barracuda into pieces as well as the bubbles Pistris shoots. At least under JNI situations if you spawn too many box2d bodies too close to each other … crash. I ate 3 hours figuring out that I had to apply these ‘effects’ only one at a time across the update cycles so they had a moment to disperse.
  • Undetermined workflow. While Demina works nicely – I had no understanding of how to quickly break apart my mostly flat drawn characters into pieces to use effectively with it. I didn’t figure it out until about 5 hours after Shark-jam ended. Ultimately it was quite easy, but I was not aware of the Photoshop features that made it easy at the time.
  • Spent too much time on features that I didn’t really need. I wrote an entire screen filtering system. Initially this was to apply a watery effect over the rendered view … but the itch struck and a few hours later it could render additively, multiply, pan, and distort.
  • Working off of a laptop –  I live in a solar powered home so it made sense this time of year but I should have attached a keyboard. I lost time on fighting with a silly scissor switch keyboard layout constantly.

The awesome I took out of this jam

  • Converting photoshop layer groups into ‘Group into new Smart Object.’ So amazing.

Ultimately I learned a lot from this first MLD/jam.

My shark-jam code isn’t up there yet but any code I may have used for it is available at www.github.com/JSandusky

Shameless game promo!

poster large9-01
Hi lovely LD game-makers! You may remember me from my last 4 LDs, I’m the gal who worked on Kumiho, Trina and Legend of Troll.
Well, in my day job I’m an illustrator/animator, and this is a game I’ve been working on for a year and a half.

https://www.facebook.com/PrimeAlienWatchSquad
https://twitter.com/pawsgame

It’s going to be a kick-ass casual strategy game for iOS, Android and PC.

We are launching a kickstarter campaign this week, to fund its completion, since it’s about 60% done.
I’d greatly appreciate it if you could like our facebook page or follow us on twitter, and/or donate to our kickstarter. You’ll find the link on facebook and twitter as soon as we launch the campaign (within the week)
Show us some love! Oh, and get ready for a video of myself wielding a lightsaber… The shame!

Shameless promotion over

I’ve said it again: I love LD and want to keep doing it till I die.

Sharkjam failure

So due to the irl interruptions of moving house, i was not able to finnish the sharkjam (Oh no! :C ) however i have decidet to finnish the game whatsoever, if you did not see my update, it will be a mortal kombat-ish side scrolling fighter with sharks. I did to much work on it to not finnish it, so stay tuned for “Shark em up: Deadliest Catch”, coming soon to a ld post near you!

That’s the spirit, keep on going!

LD27 game launching today!

3

I participated in my first Ludum Dare back in august (LD27) and it was awesome. I was very pleased with the result and my game got placed insanely high (#47 / 2213 overall) so I felt I had to take the opportunity and turn it into a full game! As of today; AntiVirus has launched!

AntiVirus is best summarized as a difficult block-pushing based sokoban-ish puzzle game with a computer/hacker theme. If you like having to think when you play games then this might be the game for you!

Interested? Try out the free version here:

And if you really liked it and want to by me a cup of coffe, get the full version here:

Any feedback on the game, both positive and negative is very welcome :)

Nyan shark

//Edit:

Small fix – you can skip intro by killing shark doctor.

I’ve added power ups to Hyper Lovely Hazardous Shark, which I’ve posted in MiniLD#46.

Skull – multiplies attack power by 2

Armor – decrement damage

Hourglass – some kind of bullet time

Spider’s web – slowers you. If you take it, you’ll die.

Lightning – faster movement

Nyan Cat – just see it.

Newest version of HLHS is avalaibe here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/232505117/hlhs%20post-sharkjam/hlhs.html .

Screen.

Mark The Shark (updated)

Now I finally have managed to update the game. If you are not using windows, please download the source version! There is still known bugs, but this verison is more complex. Enjoy!

Sharkinacho Post-Mortem

allright2

It’s been one week since I submitted Sharkinacho to Mini-LD #46 and One game a month. After some feedbacks and sleep, here’s the post-mortem.

What went wrong :

This has really been an exhausting week-end. It was way too short, I started on friday at midnight, planning to finish on sunday evening. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned AT ALL. I had to spend the whole sunday night rushing all the game. And I had to go to class in the morning, which was a disaster. All of this is due to two things : first of all, I started with really big ideas : I planned to make 31 mini-games and I ended up with 4 unfinished ones. I should have known that I’d eventually run out of time. I also had to start over the whole project once or twice, which had got me loose a lot of time.

Also, I ain’t very good at all in graphics and music making, those shitty elements took me hours for nothing… I think I’ll do next jams with some friends of mine, because I really ain’t skiilled enough. But it was very fun to do the full-voice music stuff, even though the result was a little bit disappointing, the game wasn’t that fun or dynamic, and I wish I had some better gameplay ideas.

The biggest problem of this development process was the lack of beta-testing : turns out the game was way too hard, and I had to lower the global difficulty. I’ll need to have some people nearby for the next jams, therefore I won’t have to change the code afterwards.

What went good :

The how-good-the-game-is/time-wasted-on-this-project ratio is pretty meh, but, at least I’m glad I finished it, even if it’s in 56 hours instead of 48. From all those years of watching Ludum-Dare events, I know that failure can happen a lot. I also had some good feedbacks and I can’t wait for the next jams I’ll take part in. I learned a lot of that Shark Jam and I’m glad of some little ideas I came with, dancing shark is gold imo. I’ll just have to take care of the time flying by, next time. Maybe will I do some detailed schedule and see what I can do to improve the games I make.

See y’all.

LD #28 Here I come!

Getting ready for LD #28 is rough, but good altogether! I am so pumped for the next competition, and I am SO ready to actually get a rating.

I’ve been practicing for a while, and I’ve pumped out a dinky little game in the last 2 days. It is called “Astericks” (Misspelled on purpose), and all you have to do is to collect a bunch of asterisks in a certain amount of time. It was made in Java, as it is the only language I know. Anyway here is the link to the game:

Enjoy the game and leave feedback in the comments. Look forward to LD #28 and I hope you guys have a good time.

Getting ready for LD28!

I’ve had a lot of experience developing games since I last attempted a Ludum Dare compo, so hopefully this will go well. Going to leave this here: it’s a little library I made in C++, and I’ll be using it as my engine/base code library. Good luck, and have fun everyone.

Ludam Dare #28

This is going to be my first time competing.  I have been meaning to for a year or so, but my schedule hasn’t allowed it.  Luckily, this year my schedule is free!  I am excited to see what the topic will be.

I’m planning on using javascript/canvas to do my game.  I have little javascript experience but I made a “worm” game in javascript as a test a few months ago and I liked how easy it was to get working, and the ease at which I can show my project to friends.

Also, I’m hoping this will give me a chance to brush up on my MIDI composition skills, as I will need music for my game!

Nice, hope to see you there! I usually use Java SE because its not too hard syntax. I’ve never actually heard of making a game in JavaScript, hmmm..

Yeah I’ve only done it once, but I figure its a good platform for contests like this because its easy to get my game out to everybody who wants to see it. No installations, etc.
