Guild of Brothers

I decided that I am making an action platformer where every 10 seconds you switch to a different character. It cycles through 4 characters which have different abilities. You will spend coins upgrading each character, but you must make sure to upgrade them evenly so that you are not vulnerable as an un-upgraded character.

Game idea!

So my idea for my game involves a theme that didn’t win; Strange power ups, however I won’t spoil the strangeness (muahaha). So My game has some sort of enemy that moves towards you constantly. You have top avoid them and for every 10 seconds you do so you get some points! The strange power ups will help in doing so and will each last 10 seconds (or less :o) I think this is a nice idea and a good scope. :)

Let me know what you think.

P.S.  I’m live streaming here : http://www.twitch.tv/bearmacstudios

Go check it out 😉

And so the race is on!

Dang, I was hoping it wouldn’t be Ten Seconds… Of all the things… Well, whatever.

ATM it’s 10:48PM where I live, so I’ll sign off for bed at 11.

I’ll need my strength tomorrow! Also, it was kinda annoying how the LD started at 8:00PM or so…

We’re in !!

So I just woke up (it’s 4:30 am in Germany) and immediately started coming up with game concepts with my girlfriend.

We’re going to take part in this LD together!
This is a first for both of us, since I didn’t participate in the jam category up until now and she didn’t participated in LD at all.

We were able to decide on a fun (and hopefully unique) concept in a very short time and I’m going to spend the next one or two hours coding together the basic engine stuff, sleep a bit, and continue working on it tomorrow :)

(by the way – we’re going to use flashpunk, take a look at the tools I used last LD – I’m going to use them again)

Let’s go

This time, I hope a stress-less compo…

IDE : FlashDevelop
Lib : FlashPunk

Graphics : Photoshop/Gimp, Illustrator

Maybe :
Ogmo editor, FormatFactory, LabChirb, Sunvox

OK I can work with this theme…

So I’ve been playin it pretty lax the past couple hours. I found what I think is a simple and fun idea. Will keep designing on paper tonight and hit the code tomorrow.

Spoiler, game title: CHRGNG PLS W8

Guess what… it involves guns, WOO! It’ll be like a dual stick, top down shooter where every time you shoot your gun, it takes 10 seconds to reload. Will involve crowd control kinda gameplay. Wish me the best! Good luck to everyone else!

Sounds fun! Good luck!

Streaming?

I think I figured out this twitch.tv business!

I think I figured out how to set up a webcam.  I think I set it up correctly such that it shows in the sidebar on the left (I’m not sure, because I keep having to hit “More” to find out, and I’m sure we’re at the very bottom) (but I did say we are playing “Ludum Dare”!).  If you want to watch the excitingness of the Oakland location, point your browser!

Meanwhile!  At the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment, at the same time we are trying to focus and come up with good ideas in ten seconds, and trying to form teams for the Jam and being snotty and saying “No! I only do the compo!”, there is a regular event that the MADE hosts called “Fight Night”, in which everyone comes and plays fighting games!  So, if you go to our feed, you will find us focusing in a noisy environment!  But!  If you want to watch their feed (I don’t think they’ve started it yet, though), point your thingus at:

So far, no Ludum Dare’rs have given up and gone to play Super Street Fighter Arcade Edition 2012 yet, and no Fight Nighter has given up and tried to program a a fighting game for Ludum Dare yet, but I am really hoping!

Progress

Hello everyone~

Here is our first in-progress screenshot.

We are planning to make a puzzle platformer in which you are forced to switch character every 10 seconds,

your goal is making your way to the exit for every alien…

stay tuned~

First hour and a bit

After over an hour of thinking at various ways to use “10 seconds” I was getting nowhere. Plenty of  “good” ideas, yet not one seemed fun, or smart, or new, or fresh, or simple enough.  I decided to write down 5 of them on a few pieces of paper, schuffle them, and let the great beyond decide my future…

… It turns out I’m going to do a “cross the street” kind of game.

I will involve chickens.

And wisdom.

Much wisdom.

Allons-y!

Prototyping eagle’s view

eagle_prototype

A prototype to simulate eagle crossing the forest.

I’m going to make another prototype and make my final choice between these two.

I heard you like zombies.

Very nice. Really like this. 😀

I guess pirates?

Yay, progress. Spent 4-5 hours trying to figure out what our main character was going to look like, not exactly the best time spent. He ended up looking something like this:

Screen Shot 2013-08-24 at 12.51.52 AM

We’re starting out with an arena type slash em up game, where the attributes of your character change every 10 seconds. So you could be in the middle of a fight against an undead skeleman and with a timer ticking down notifying “You sword will soon be a fish”, or “Enemies will be stronger.” Random rule changes that mix up the gameplay, I think it could be fun.

Hopefully it’ll be modular enough so that once we have an engine going we can just keep adding for a while and end up with somewhat of a full game.

So far our title for the game is Curse of the… something idk.

First Ludum Dare Jam

So I have decided to participate in the Jam for the first time along with a friend. We lost about a hour brainstorming and hopefully soon, we get to start…

Our tools:

– Unity3D (C#)

– Blender & Cinema4D

– Audacity

– Photoshop & Paint.net

Gonna try to make it simple and make it fun! Good luck to everyone and get some sleep.

My first ludum project

This is cool, its good to take a break from my main project for a while.

I’m making a game about a girl who makes potions, and you only have 10 seconds to add ingredients.

Defining the word “seconds”

I just came up with a nice idea for my game that involves multiple uses of the word “seconds”. Who said that “seconds” had to be a unit of time? :)
