Codename Mississippi-10

An Informative Concept Drawing

My plan is to make a game where the player controls a flock* of ninjas with various abilities presented with the following task: Kill everything on screen and get off-screen within 10 seconds. The ninjas will be controlled via a timeline, so everything’s planned ahead of time and can be controlled very precisely (because these are ninjas – no mortal can hope to control a flock of them at the same time!). I’m hoping that this will lead to interesting (and difficult to program!) possibilities for level design (though I wish “level design” weren’t a thing I had to say) – like having two enemies be in planes and having a single rock thrown at them strike both if they’re in a line above the ninja, which they will be for only a brief instant (i.e. enough for a ninja).

Besides, I’ve already done the hardest part for this idea of a game: I’ve named it in a “clever” way!

*I believe this is the technical term

Time for sleep.

It’s just past 3am now. We’ve sat around for an hour brainstorming. Got some pretty rad ideas brewin’, but I think we’d better sleep on it; see what mad visions our dreams conjure!

See y’all early tomorrow. Best of luck!

Us right now… (ᴗ˳ᴗ) zzz

Progress!!

Well, it’s been one hour. Here’s what I have so far. Mostly spriting. How’s your submission coming along?

Wow, its hard to believe its already been an hour and I only have my concept done. Well, good luck to you Falconstar! Are you making a TBS game by any chance(that’s what it looks like to me judging from the screenshot…)?

Still thinking about the gameplay concept. You’re one fast-progressing gentleman.

@Gravity Games: Not really sure what TBS means, but I’m thinking it will be a turn-based sort of battle game. :)

I hate you, still don’t have an idea I want to make.

I am IN! Again!

Time to go meditate on the theme.

Tools: Unity/Playmaker, sfxr, Otomata.

Good luck everyone!

Welp, its Time to Test my Platformer Engine

Alright, I’m really excited to participate in this Ludum Dare (even though I’m not nearly as enthusiastic about the theme), and I’m using this as a chance to test out how flexible my game engine is so far (making a game in it that it wasn’t necessarily designed to make is a good test IMHO). So yeah, I’m doing the Jam instead this time, so sue me.

If you actually care, you can follow my blog here: http://gravitygamesinteractive.tumblr.com/

Its for my company as a whole, and not just for Ludum Dare stuff, but at the very least that’s all it will be for the next three days. I know I could just post here, but I just prefer to keep things in a seperate place (I’m just weird like that). I look forward to distributing the demo for testing some time tomorrow.

HOLD MY BEER | STEP 1: Graphics, Graphics, Graphics

STEP 2: Not Finishing Stuff You Were Sure To Finish Quickly

STEP 3: Actually Developing The Game

 STEP 4: Done

hmblog4

In a contest so short, it is immensely important to have a polished looking, smoothly working game. Therefore, just starting with a game idea and then somehow wrapping some graphics around it isnt gonna work. So i decided to start with getting the graphics done completely before even touching programming.

hmblog2

I am almost done with that, the mockups so far look very promising, even though i am afraid of the programming part to come.

All is done with PyxelEdit, a fantastic little program which sadly doesnt support Animations yet. That will probably affect the overall feeling of the graphics a bit, as i planned to animate the clouds and lights but am struggling to do so right now. That will probably be scrapped for time reasons.

Now to finish off the more complicated foregrounds of the images, which will contain all gameplay aspects.

And then im off watching Formula 1.

I’m in!

I have decided to join in on Ludum Dare 27! This will be my first time competing in a Ludum Dare, or even making a video game, so this should be fun! Best of luck to all!

I wasn’t gonna participate this time, but….

This theme has already gotten my creative juices flowing. I’ll see what I can come up with, even if I can’t do work on this the whole weekend.

I’ll be streaming most of my development here. Come say hi!

Edit:

Forgot to say what tools I’m using:

Code: Game Maker: Studio:

Art: Game Maker Studio/ Sprite Something for iOS

Sound: SFXR

Music: I’m not sure yet :/

EVEN MORE EXCITING

It’s a gif by the way.

The idea is that you’re a time traveller, you have 10 seconds to traverse a level (things to traverse to be added later).  You can freeze yourself in time and go back to start, this lets you create platforms.

No lie — I’m using the same colour scheme.

I’m in for 10 seconds

I totally forgot to say “I’m In” so here it goes. I’m in!. This is my 5th LD, my tools:

  • Language: Java with
  • Libs: LibGDX
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Graphics: Paint.NET, Tiled
  • Sound: SFXR

This is my first time using LibGDX and I’m not very familiar with it but I know some basics. As always good luck to everyone and have fun!

Ten Second Samurai!

Wouldn’t that be a great name for a game? Not one I’m making, of course. I still haven’t decided what to come up with yet. But I’ve got almost 47 hours left, and I’m throwing someone’s hat into the ring. Not mine – I don’t wear hats. I’ll have to find someone with a fedora.

So I’ll be using Haxe 3.0 and the dev build of HaxeFlixel this time around. Doing my spriting work in GraphicsGale, should any need for such arise. An open source old-school sound effects generator and maybe some music will be key too, since really, I don’t think I can swing making either right now – I still have to get in some MilkyTracker experience. Oh, and general music theory while I’m at it. What’s a harmony again?

Good luck all, see you at deadline.

Idea!

I’ll probably make one of those simple top down shooter games with time limits, with a kill getting you more time.
I would expand more on that, of course, since the idea itself is a bit bland, although simple.

We are in!

My buddy and I are in. I wasn’t going to do this Ludum Dare, but then I changed my mind, why not? Then I was just talking to my buddy (5 min. ago) and he’s in, so we will be doing the Jam! No planning, but it will likely be made in Unity.

my goodness

This is my first Ludum Dare, so I’m going to try my best! I’m entering the Compo.

Engine: Game Maker Studio

Other Tools:

  • Paint Shop Pro X
  • BSFXR

Writing for Windows (for now)! No base code, I’m starting a blank project and using no other libraries/extensions than those provided with GMS.

So the first thing we did…

..is a f*cking toilet! This is starting off great.

I’m in for the first time, and I hope not the last one. Will be jamming with my good friend who will make graphics, via telecommute.

I’ll use Haxe and all the power of github and haxelib, everething ready I can find.

For graphics, it will be gimp. Everyone have fun!

Visual Basic? Whoah, fancy! :)

WHY? 10 Seconds WHY!!!

Ok, well, I can work with is. But I feel this is not a theme rather a constraint… But what ever…

In for the 3rd time

Already have an idea, hope it works! :)
