LD31 December 5–8, 2014

I’m in for the next Ludum Dare!

Since the last Ludum Dare and my submission Matters of Perspective, I’ve learnt some things. Networking, and database storage / retrieval in Unity. Hopefully this will enable a unique social interaction in whatever game I make :)

We’re In

Hey guys, in for the 6th time!

We’ll probably be using:

Language: Java
IDE: Eclipse
Audio: BFXR? SFXR? one of those.
Graphics: Good ‘ol Photoshop.

We’ll probably whip up something with OpenGL.

Good luck jamming everyone!

Just one more week!

Obligatory “I’m in” post is obligatory.

I’m planning on being able to participate again and looking forward to it! I’ve decided to have a look through some of the themes in the slaughter and spend the next week working on a game based on one to test my tools and my ability to make a game based on a topic.

The topic I decided on was “Seasons”, and I’ll be using the following:

  • Language: Java and Score, my own scripting language, still in alpha stages but seemingly stable (enough).
  • Library/Engine: Artifakt, my own in-dev library built around LWJGL for quick game developing.
  • Graphics: Paint.NET, super nice image software.
  • Sound/Music: Ableton Live 9 for compositions and sounds and the internet for sounds I can’t create.
  • IDE: Eclipse, I’m comfortable in it and it’s good for quick development.

Whatever I make will only be published as runnable jars, I’ve never been a fan of Java applets so my library doesn’t support them (maybe in the future if I need to, eh?) I’ve never tried exporting for anything other than Windows (as it’s the only OS I actually use, I haven’t finished setting up Ubuntu and don’t have anything Mac) so I guess this’ll be the time for me to figure that out as well.

I’ve got a lot to work on and more to test, and I wish everyone luck in preparation for and participation in our next Ludum Dare 😀

I´m in!

Hi Everyone, I´m In! Looking forward to the next Ludum Dare! Never done one, this is my first time… I´m learning everything… so It will be great practice! I´m not a designer, nor a programmer, just a hobbyst! Currently I´m a Psychotherapist… What am I doing here?! Well having a great time! With awesome people! Sorry for my English, it´s my second Language.

Tools:

Engine: Unity3d with C# or Boo, haven´t decided yet… I like C#, but I know better Python, so I like to use Boo whenever possible.

Drawing Tool: Inkscape for vector graphics, or Sprite Something IOS for fast Pixel art.

Sound: Ableton Live 8 and FMOD Studio to script the music into Unity…and have different music for battles, etc.

Ok People see ya at Ludum Dare!

I’m in

Never done this before, but it seems like everyone is making these posts!

Can’t wait!

I belong to a set of programmers participating in LD31 (I’m in)

Don’t worry, I don’t speak that way, I just wated something more creative than “I’m in”. Anyway, I am very excited about this LD (new web, hurray!).

My -things- I am going to make a game with

Code: VilTAGE (my own web ASCII game framework), Dart language

Graphics: have you read the line above? It’s ASCII graphics!

Sound: I don’t know. Probably BFXR and some online piano sound player.

So.. that’s it. See ya in the TOP 100! :)

I’m in for the first time !

Hi there,

I plan to participate in LD #31 next week-end and the MiniLD #55 tomorrow!

Being roaming over there for one year at least, I want to be part of it with you this time :)
I make games at spare times since looooong looooong time but just released one in the real world (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/641447, oh yeah it’s a mahjong game ^^).

For the MiniLD I got the idea last night – not sleeping well searching for ideas – to make a game called “Prepare… to RACE!”. The goal of the game will be to prepare a formula one car before the race, adjusting elements like tyres or engine according to the weather, the track, and other parameters. After the start, computed cars will race with you and the best will win.

Goals and tools planned for the MiniLD :

  • Setup  a Twitch stream with screen and webcam, OMG with 100 kbps it’s impossible x)
  • Have a playable game (and fun!) at the end of the week-end,
  • Possible engines : Vanilla JS + Pixi.js, Phaser, Construct 2 or HaxeFlixel,
  • Tools : Gimp, Sfxr/Jsfxr, other free online tools.

Good luck to all and hope to see you there,
jhice, from France, La Rochelle.

My first I’m In post

Well I am in, this is my first Ludum Dare, but not my first Game Jam. Recently I competed in the Indies Vs PewDiePie jam, prior to that I’ve been practicing each weekend by making mini games to challenge my skills and prepare myself for what I consider the ultimate challenge “Ludum Dare”.

I’m nervous as hell, but extremely ready for the challenge. This weekend I’ll be getting my work stations ready, buying some more ram and setting up a stream all ready for the big day. I have no game plan beyond that.

The Tools:

Engine : Unity 3D

Language : C#

3d Graphics : Blender

2D Graphics : Pixen (maybe photoshop if I need it)

IDE: MonoDevelop & Sublime Text 3

Sound/Music : Undecided, plenty of great free resources in my bookmarks if I need them, otherwise i’ll be using my iPhone to record and Audacity to tweak.

I’ve watched on during many Ludum Dares and I am excited to finally be participating, I wish everyone a drama free event and the best of luck with what ever it is they set out to achieve!

Good luck !

(Untitled)

Language – HTML5+JavaScript

Editor – Notepad++

Art – Paint

Sound – sfxr

I’m sorta half maybe in! :D or :(

Hey people!

I might be in for a single day Ludum Dare! It’ll mainly be some practice :). It’s my third time I’ll enter and it’ll hopefully be the second time I’ll finish!

Why maybe and just one day?

At the moment I’m sick (flu), as I have been for the past 1.5 weeks. And I have a “history” of being sick for long periods. Also I’ll be busy sunday for “Sinterklaas”  (It’s a Dutch holiday, comparable to santa claus), wich will need some preparations. But I think I’ll find the time to do so.

What will I use?

I am still unsure about what I’ll use, but I’ll probarly go with these:

  • Graphics: Photoshop or Gimp.
  • Sound: bfxr.
  • Music: abundant music.
  • Code: Python and pyGame, I just started learning it so it’ll be great practice (learning thanks to this great guy). If I don’t feel confident enough, I might use javascript.
  • Style: 2D or text based :)

Good luck to you all!

And most important:

HAVE FUN!

-Dutch Derpy Guy

I’m In – Newb style

So first time for everything – I’m in for the Jam (less pressure)

I really haven’t decided what I’d like to use (it depends on the idea) so I’m putting all the variations down!

Language: Python, C# or C++

Engine/Library: Pygame, Unity, SFML

Art: Whatever feels right for style – pixlr, PS?

Audio: Bfxr … maybe

End note: This is going to go horribly wrong C: ……… I’m scared 😡

Just remember to keep your idea small and constantly re-assess what features need to stay in versus can get cut to save time. In other words – focus only on the things that matter and keep everything else for version 2.0 (“post-compo”).

Thanks for the words of advice :) My main aim is to get something “complete”.

LogicielAllan is back in the place !

Logiciel Allan is back in the place , we previously participated at the #LD26 and we are happy to be back for the #LD31 !

The final game will be converted for the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store for free !

See you the 5th december ! 😉

… the timing on this is … not … good…

Right, in Finland, we have this thing called ‘pikkujoulu’ which is basically “Little Christmas.”  You know those things called office Christmas parties?  Right, just add darkness and lots of alchohol, and you’ve got the general idea.

So… ours is the 5th.

Now, see, Ludum Dare doesn’t actually start until the 6th.  I know, it says the 5th, but it’s the 6th here when it starts.  So I’ll actually be HOME when it starts.  But I’ll have to avoid drinking heavily, and that’s not going to be easy because … it’s just not going to be easy.

So this may be interesting.  Cuz I really want to do this, and I’ve been doing well on coding the Amiga demo for FAP (Finnish Amiga Party) which is today/tommorrow, but… we’ll see.

The timing is all bad, but the next week is worse – got server cuts and all that Tuesday and just tons of crap.  So it woudln’t work to move it.  It’s just pikkujoulut is just… the wrong day (:  But it’s important too.

Wheee!

OS Question

Does anyone know the distribution of different OSs and versions in use by LD participants? Specifically, I’m wondering if it’s worth the extra hassle of me supporting DirectX 9 (compatible with Windows XP) or sticking with DX11 (Windows 7 and up), but I’d also be interested to see how popular each platform is.

I noticed on recent previous Ludum dares enough comments of people having issues running XNA games with the HiDef profile which is DirectX 10+, but no one complaining when using the DirectX 9 “reach” profile, so I would say there is a good number of people stuck on DirectX 9 hardware. As a note it might not just be that they are on Windows XP but they might be emulating or running windows in a virtual machine many of which only support up to DirectX 9, or are on older hardware that can’t handle the higher requirements of more recent versions of DirectX. To be safe I would suggest sticking with DirectX 9 if you could, but if you need or want to use the newer features, don’t let comparability hold you back; you’re here to have fun.

Forgot one thing…

As usual, I forgot to post the personal library I will be using for this ludum dare!

Here it is.

Nice framework you have there, and cool that you’r sharing it. I

Im in!

Count me in :)

This will be my second LD and i cant wait in anticipation… :)

Programm ill be using are either Gamemaker Studio, Unity 3D or Java: Eclipse with LibGDX, im not quite sure yet

Ill be using Paint Net for Graphics.

At the FIFTH time – I’m in! (I hope)

My week after LD#31 is gonna be freakin’ busy, so the timing was terrible – but hey, I wouldn’t even be the same guy if I would miss any LD!

Circumstances are exactly the same as previously – no direct connection to the Internet, Notepad++, Lua, Love2D, Paint.NET, and lotsa retardness.

It still might be possible that I can’t join however; we’ll see.

I’m In

After watching LD compos for years, I’m finally taking the dive myself. I’ll be using GM:S & Adobe Illustrator.

ADRIAAAAAAAAAN!

I’m entering the MiniLD with a Rocky training montage game.
It is based on Wario Ware and sees you alternating between boxing Ivan Drago and performing small flashbacks from a training montage.

I’ll be using Unity and probably MS Paint for this one. I hope that it will be easy enough to get some awesome music in, but we’ll see.
