LD31 December 5–8, 2014

While you wait for LD31…

… This weekend, prepare to be eaten away by our new game jam entry! (not ludum dare related though)

Who's for dinner?
Release should be on Sunday.

And, of course, our team will enter LD31, since it will be our first anniversary! One year ago, we did our first game ever for LD28. Thanks you guys for your great feedback, for playing all those wonderful games, and for making this a place where we can actually make instead of dream-talking!

Chaoslab – See you at LD #31

Chaoslab here saying hello.

This is some pixel art from an in progress project working name “Pocket Raiders”.

Mini LD 55 and LD 31 – I’m in

Whelp. Since I now have a job that isn’t in the retail sector and I now get weekends off I will definitely be participating this weekend and next for MiniLD 55 and LD 31!

I’m playing it a bit loose with the theme of “Preparation” however. I will just be making a complete clone of Breakout this weekend. I like to use Breakout as a sort of litmus test. I feel that it is a great game to get a feel for a framework or engine. I will be using the Phaser framework, which I’ve used a bit, but I haven’t really completed anything with it. I aim to do that this weekend by making Breakout with it so I can get a better feel for the framework before LD31.

Anyway, I know it isn’t original, but I figured it’s “preparation” so I’ll prepare to use Phaser :)

And here is a rundown of the tools I’ll be using:

Editor: Atom

Language: JavaScript

Frameworks/LibrariesPhaser.js

Graphics: Pyxel Edit

Sounds: Bfxr for SFX and idk about music…Reason? Or maybe garageband or something like that?

Happy coding everyone!

WIR are in!

And WIR are sorry for anyone not speaking german and therfore not getting this awfully bad joke…

It’s our 2nd time and we’ll join the 72h Jam again.

Tools we’ll use:

  • Language: Java
  • Editor: Netbeans (or Eclipse with the android plugin if, for some reason, we’ll decide to do an app)
  • Frameworks/Libraries: Actually it’s more like one class written to simplify graphicoutput (nothing fancy)… i’m still tweaking it, but i’ll poste the code before the ld starts.
  • Graphics: Gimp
  • Sounds: Bfxr & FlStudio 11 & Audacity

Good luck to everyone!

Bwahahah, sorry, dass ich euch diese Idee klauen musste, fand ich zu gut. Hab das letze mal beim Jam mitgemacht, diesesmal wirds die 48h.

I’m in!

This will be my third LD, the first two were LD24 (Evolution) and LD29 (Beneath the Surface).

Getting hella hyped in IRC, very excited about being able to participate again.

Language: Most likely Java, though possibly Haxe, JavaScript, Ruby, or Python (or a combination of all of those, who knows.)

Frameworks: Depends mostly on the idea, with Java, libGDX is tempting, though other options include pure Java2D or JavaFX. With Haxe, OpenFL or HaxePunk. With JavaScript, plain canvas probably, or possibly MelonJS or something. With Ruby, RubyGame, or write a basic enginge in Java and then interface with JRuby to get the benefit of Java’s  superior GC. With Python, PyGame (though it would be my first time doing gamedev in Python) or Jython with a Java engine.

Honestly, this is largely dependent on my mood on the day.

Editor: IntelliJ IDEA & Atom

Graphics: GIMP

Music: MuseScore or GarageBand

I’m in!

This will be my 6th ludum dare! 6!
Still unsure as to the programs I’ll be using, it’ll all depend on what the theme ends up being, but I’ll make a future post as to what I’m using.

I’ll be participating in the 48h comp.

Enjoy, and may the best be with you (and your team?)!

I’m in LD31!

Ludum Dare results. Who here hasn’t had the experience of reading and re-reading your results to find some crumb of comfort?

Even when you get a worse score than the time before? Well, you learnt something right? And you scored better in graphics and humour! Woo!

This game was judged... and found wanting

This game was judged… and found wanting

Well, I did score worse than the time before. I am apparently getting worse at making games. Go me!

I’d like this Ludum Dare (my third) to be more about experimenting with game design concepts and less about learning how to achieve various effects and implement particular mechanics. That seems like the best way of getting a better game at the end of the weekend.

Like the last two times, I’m going to be using Three.JS along with various library/framework things on my Github account. Three.JS is a WebGL library and that means it can be played by anyone with a browser, which is cool. But it’s not a game engine like Unity, which is less cool and makes everything that bit harder.

I’ll be using Blender to create any geometry and Reason for music/audio, although I will have a strict time limit on how much time I can spend in Blender this time.

I’m also going to do the Mini-LD – using all the same tools – which I expect to go about as well as my last LD, i.e., pretty badly. Hopefully solving technical puzzles and challenges the weekend before the main LD will make it easier to concentrate on the actual game though. That’s the theory.

The truth is, any score your LD entry gets that means you come back and try to do better? That’s a great result.

What if you don’t get worse at making games, but other people just get betterer faster than you… Ok, that sounded more encouraging in my head than written out.

Whatever, having ANY game at the end of LD is an accomplishment. So, good luck for the next one!

We’re in!

This will be my 4th ludum dare. We have been looking forward to this for a while since we couldn’t enter the last 2 jams. I hope we show improvements from our last score since we had nearly a year to hone in our skills.  This will be our first time with Construct 2 which is a really fast tool for making something that at least resembles a game in a short amount of time.

Team:

Chad: Graphics and Programming

Nate (drkrunk): Graphics, Programming, and Sound Design

Software:

Engine: Construct2

ImageEditor: Photoshop

Music/Sound: Fl Studio

I’m in

I plan to enter in to LD31. This will be my second time doing Ludum Dare though it will be my first time doing it alone.

I will be coding in C++ and DirectX and I will be using GIMP  for the very poor graphics :D.

Taking part

Oh God no.. Not again… Another Ludum Dare? I guess I’ll take part and go for my 2nd finish! Fingers crossed it will go well. I’ll be in a team, the other half.  I’ll be tweetin’ it all on @Macecraft

Still haven’t decided on Java or C++ so both tools, for me, listed below –

IDE – Codeblocks

Library – SFML

or

IDE – Eclipse

Library – LWJGL & Slick2D!

My artist (Foxel) will be using Flash ^-^. Our music will be generated by http://www.fakemusicgenerator.com/,

Another newbie. I’m in!

Hey guys, doing the “i’m in” post. Looking forward to it. I’m doing the jam as I’m new to game dev as a whole. Python is my strongest language, so i’ll be using that. Thought it would be fun and something good to put on my university personal statement. Only thing worrying me is if the theme is something peculiar and I can’t get any ideas.

  • Language – Python (using pygame)
  • Editor – Pycharm
  • Graphics – Paint.net
  • Audio – Audacity + Bfxr (just found this through here)
  • Additional tools – Mountain dew

Good luck and have fun everyone :)

Revolutions

Hi!

I just wanted to talk about the game we develop during the last WE game dev party in Lyon: This is a game where you control a spaceship and have to travel to another planet using the minimum amount of gaz and use the gravitation and orbit principle.

A flash version is available here: http://www.phonations.com/revolutions.swf

The game is open-source and code can be accessed here: https://github.com/Phonations/revolutions

There is some very nice artwork and music. This would be cool if we could push toward the development to make an awesome game!

Any help is appreciated 😉

I’m Ready

Not yet sure if I’ll use my Windows/Mac, C++, OpenGL framework: TurtleBrains or if I’ll go with AS3 and FlashPunk, but I do know I am in and ready for LudumDare 31.  Hopefully this will be a bit better than my failed #LD30 attempt.  Weekend is free from other plans, and ready to make a game!

I’m in!

Hey!

Returning for my second LD – first one was… eventful

Tools:

Engine: UE4

Art tools: Photoshop

Audio – Audacity and a Microphone

Looking forward to streaming this time on my twitch channel http://twitch.tv/Terribad_Gaming

Im in for both ld’s hopefully.

Hi my name is Brian. I will be participating in the mini ld but im not to sure about the big one due to school work. I will be streaming the making of my game so make sure you head to my twitch channel twitch.tv/dugoutaz and watch me make them. I have some programming knowledge but not much. I most likely will end up making a text base game so ya lol. Cya there

Mini LD Progress: Day 5/6

Today, I have added respawning to my game “Prepare Uranus”! Spaceships will spawn from a random angle each time they’re destroyed, but pretty quickly atm. Will slow respawn times down in the final version.

There’s also a sprite above the house which will act as “metal”, a collectable used to upgrade the player’s weapon.

Well here goes (literaly) nothing

Hey folks

I’m an aspiring (Translation: untalented) programmer, but I wont let me keep a little thing like lack of experience, creativity and general competency get in my way for my first jam!

Moral of the story: I’M IN

Lua/ Love2D for the code/engine

Paint.net for graphics (don’t expect anything exceptionaly pretty)

Audacity for audio

I’m a human being and I’m in!

Hi everyone!
I love programming and videogames, but I never managed to mix these two passion into something really good, without stealing ideas from other games or some sample code from Internet. Now I want to test myself with the Jam and see if Ludum Dare can do the trick.

Language: I think I’ll use HTML canvas and Javascript or Python and pygame (I’m learning it these days).
Editor: Sublime Text 3
Graphics: Photoshop
Audio: I don’t know, I play the piano but I’m slow at composing, I think I’ll stick to some generating content tool for sfx.

What else? Good luck to you and to me!
