LD31 December 5–8, 2014

I’m in (for school?)

I’m in for Ludum Dare 31, for school purposes!

I must participate in the jam competition so I must find a programmer with a lot of experience in game programming (it’s for a traineeship).

Here are the tools that I will be using:

I’m also thinking about streaming and/or making a timelapse for my YouTube channel :)

I hope I’ll find another programmer because this is really important for my school project!

Otherwise, if you are interested in participating in my team, feel free to comment this post, I’ll give you a way to contact me :)

Good luck to everyone participating 😀

What is your project about? What is your skill level? what is your time zone? anyway I am an experienced game programmer with unity and c#, and I am looking for a team.

I’m in – My forth LudumDare Compo

So as the title says I’m in for my fourth LudumDare, I’m hoping that being away from game development for a little while will have helped with not making a mountain out of a mole hill for the 48 hour compo.

So let’s hope this one goes further than any of my other games.

The following are my weapons of choice:

Engine – Unity3d.

Graphics – Photoshop and Maybe Inkscape.

Programming Language – C#.

Audio – Bfxr, Fakemusicgenerator and FL Studio.

I will make my descision on what style I do when the themes go through. I’m still debating on the visual style at the moment and if it will be 2d or 3D.

I’ll try to make a timelapse or live stream the entire event.

More info can be found on my twitter feed @moongateuk and on my website http://www.moongate-uk.co.uk/

A small change of heart

I mentioned I’d participate in Compo earlier, but I had a change of heart, recently. As one of the organizers at Tech Valley Game Space (a physical location in Troy, NY), a ton of time will be taken to help other developers to start their game projects. Since that takes time, and I want to help those participating in the game jam, I’ll be switching to the Jam competition.

Speaking of Tech Valley Game Space, we’ve prepared a live stream of our office at Twitch.tv (http://www.twitch.tv/techvalleygamespace/). In addition, we’re working on setting up a few presentations for the stream, so stay tuned.

Here are tentatively a few presentations we had in mind:

  • “How to survive Ludum Dare”
  • “Make it Juicy: easy methods to make your game more engaging”
  • “Getting votes: the Ludum Dare marketing guide.”

Nice to see a gathering in the capital region! Afraid it would be too distracting if I’m doing the 48-hour solo compo, but maybe I’ll join a future one if it continues. When do you think the talks will be?

Im in! third time in a row

Hey Im in!

This will be my third time in a row, last LD I did pretty well my game end up 24th on Theme which is pretty cool but I want to do better, hopefully I will make a better game this time!.

My tools:
Engine: Unity 3D
Language: C#
IDE: Visual studio 2012
Graphics: Maya 2013 or Paint.net or both, depending on the game
Music: cgMusic, sfxr and Samplitude and various VSTi for mixing
Energy: Monster (Lots!)

Obligatory Im In

Hey Guys 😀 this will be my 2nd ludum dare, my first being the august compo that said :

Tools:

  • Audio: No idea yet(leave suggestions in the comments maybe?)
  • Game Engine: Most likely unity, although i used Love 2d last time around
  • Sound Effects: Combination of sfxr and jfxr
  • Art: Paint.Net, and maybe some experimentation with piskel (http://www.piskelapp.com/ online sprite editor)spriter
  • Ideas: My own creativity and some inspiration from google-imaging the theme

Hopes:

  • Improve on my job i done last time
  • Using Love2d made level building purely writing code which made basics take longer after the framework was in place, using unity i plan to have  longer game this time
  • Improve my new skills with unity
  • Rate some fantastic games

If you want a simple and effective music maker try bosca ceoil (don’t know the website; Google it). Good luck!

I tried them all and the best so far is cgMusic, there is also a great one called autotracker that creates music loops in .it (impulse tracker) format its a python script so you need to have python installed but is pretty cool too, but cgMusic takes the cake, you can even select the style of music you want and the quality of the songs created with it is incredible.

Post Compo Ludum Dare 30 Game

Starting to work on an Android version of my Ludum Dare 30 game. I have all of the level making utils and movement done. Now on to making cool levels!

What is the engine?

Blah blah blah

I’ll have to cut my jam time a little short seeing as I’ll have to leave for work before the compo ends (and I can’t stay up too late either). As such, I think I’ll take LD a little differently this time. My aim is to spend a lot more time brainstorming ideas, to try and do something super interesting/imaginative.

Tools
FlashDevelop + AS3
GIMP
Audacity
pxtone
NONE OF THESE TRASHY GAME ENGINES

What if for once, you actually read an ‘i’m in’ post?

Yeah, this is like any usual ‘i’m in’ post, but i’ll go through everything this post should have.

This is my 3rd Ludum Dare, and I’m pretty excited for it! :) Although I was happy with what I made last Ludum Dare, I have to agree that it wasn’t the best game. I didn’t know what I was doing some of the time, and I kinda just overworked myself a little. But, I have planned ahead, and (hopefully) figured out a solution to these problems.

IDE: Eclipse

Language: Java

Graphics: Gimp

Audio: sfxr

Good luck to everyone who enters the competition, and have fun! 😀

The website’s color scheme

I haven’t been to the site in about 3 weeks, and when I left the website have a darker purple color. Today I noticed it have a dark blue color. I think personally that the website is getting darker. Please bring back the purples and the fun yellows that differentiated this site from the rest and made it very fun and appealing. If not doable, then I suggest another solution. Allow 2 visual versions of the site. 1 for the original with the purple background, yellow boxes, etc; and then have another one for this new, modern version of the site. That way all the users can view the site the way they like it. Right now the website just doesn’t shout ” Make games! This is a wonderful and friendly site!” With too many darker colors. By simply making the background a lighter color I believe that should remedy the darker look of the current website. That you for all of your work, and continue to make Ludum Dare even better :)

I’m in

Again, I’m in for Ludum Dare! This time I will use.

  • Language: Java
  • Library: LibGDX
  • Graphcis: Inkscape and Gimp

For sound and music I will use tools like sfxr or autotracker. But maybe I will create music on my own with a tracker software or something like that. Don’t know yet.

I hope you all have fun!

Do you recommend any tutorial about Libgdx? Because I’m starting in Libgdx. 😀

I’m in!

Preparation!

So, for a little bit of preparation I made a quick platforming script in Unity: http://pastebin.com/Gdp2tebW

It supports 1-way platforms and jumping down off them, as well as skidding. I made it in about an hour and a half.

I think next I’ll try and make a simple 3D Platforming script and see how that goes.

I may be in, and an update on my LD #30 game

I would love to get in on the next Ludum Dare, but we’ll see – I may do it solo this time, I may be in a team again, I may have to pass entirely, we’ll see. If I do enter, it will be with largely the same general tools as last time – Stencyl, LMMS, and my trusty copy of Photo Impact. My last (and also first) LD game, Melody’s Long Ladder Home, was fun to make and my friend and I learned allot in the process.

Speaking of, it  is now hosted in an updated, fixed* form on All Around Gaming Hub, and you can find it here.

* People commented on the controls being fairly difficult, particularly getting on and off of ladders and in to small areas, so those have (mostly) been fixed.

Procedural Generation by cloning player moves

X-post from my submission to the recent Procjam.

I released an iPhone game for the October Ludum Dare https://itunes.apple.com/app/id935956154 , where you fight copies of yourself.

I extracted this logic into a Javascript library that lets you record actions of a node then play it back. Try out the web canvas painting demo where each time you click a paintbrush replays what you did.

You can use this to copy player moves into clones like I did for Quantum Pilot or anything else you can think of involving recording actions and replaying them later.

First-timer

Hi folks!

This will be my first LD event. I was here at LD30, but just as a spectator. Now I want to be the active part of it!

IDE: Visual Studio 2013

Language: C++

Libraries: GLFW, GLEW, GLM, SOIL

Graphics: Photoshop

Audio: don’t know yet, but sfxr is the most probable

So basically I’m going to use OpenGL for my graphical context and it will be first time for that scale. I’ve started learning it a few weeks ago and I’m able to produce just a simple scene. Wish me good luck, as I wish it to all of you!

I’m in (again)! :D

Second time in Ludum Dare, hoping to improve this time around a last time UI issues kept me from doing as well as I wanted.

Might be doing the jam over the compo this time with a few people! Try some team work. We shall see! :)

Engine: Unity

Langauge: C#

IDE: Visual Studio

I’m still working with my first Ludum Dare entry in my free time, trying to improve on it 😀

Definitely in

I’m back for #31! The goal is simply to have fun creating my game and playing the ones made by the other participants.

I will use the same set of tools as last time.

Framework: HTML, Javascript, ImpactJS
Text editor: Kate
Graphics: GIMP, Inkscape
Audio: Maybe Autotracker and bfxr or af3sfxr.

Base code: (just a basic HTML template and minimum CSS)
https://bitbucket.org/f7f5/ld48-base-code/src

Good luck to everyone!

Im IN!

I see a lot of LD first timers – at least I’m not alone. I’m looking forward to taking part in the first (of many) LDs.

Language: Python w/ pygame
Text Editor: gVim
Graphics: gimp
Music: MilkyTracker + sfxr
