Maybe I’ll finish this time

I’m going to be using Twine this time. Nice and simple and something I understand. I’ll try not to make the mistake of learning a tool while developing this time.

I’m in, for the 10th time!

As usual, I’ll be livestreaming the whole thing over at http://twitch.tv/quill18!

I’ll be using Unity — though I’m not sure if it’ll be 2d or 3d.  Depends on the theme, I guess!

I’m glad to see that you are in again and I’m looking forward to join your stream. Won’t this be your 10th time though?

I am in!

Hello!

This time of year has come again. This will be my 3rd time taking part in the compo. I did OK on the two last ones, and I am to do even better on this one.

Engine : Unity2D or 3D, unless I change my mind at the last minute, which is very possible.

Graphics : Photoshop CS5

3D Models (if I make a 3D game) : Blender

Audio : Bfxr

Music : A random music generator, not sure which one yet.

Good luck to all participants!

I’m in

This is my first time joining, I’ll use

Engine: Unity

Sound: SFXR, BFXR

Images: Gimp/paint.net

and hope for the best. I am excited to give it a try, even knowing my limitations.

I’m in once again

I am in for yet another jam. Sports are going to screw up my times for this one and make me have not a ton of time. I’m hoping that this will be my last jam with straight scratch java!

Edit: just like I have past jams, I plan to live stream it all at http://twitch.tv/turkey2349

I’m in like the clothes all the cool kids wear!

I’m in for the 48 hour compo!

-Development environtment: GameMaker Studio
-Sound: SFXR and Reason or Famitracker depending on how chippy I want my tunes.
-Graphics: GameMaker’s built in pixel editor supplemented by Photoshop CS5.

Happy voting, everyone!

Yea I’ll be using GM studio too as it is easy to use

We’re probably not in…

Yes, regrettably, I must inform you that we are (probably) not going to participate in this LD.
We haven’t missed one since we started back in LD24 (although last time we were unable to complete and submit our entry).
There is another project in need of our attention, so… That’s that.
If we find the time, we might whip up a quick entry, but nothing too fancy.
So… Happy LD-ing to everyone, and good luck!

Progress, and maybe MiniLD

I’ve been testing my tools and building up my languages functionality while thinking up a small game idea, and the language seems to be keeping up nicely (not like Java VM fast but calm down this just a baby language). I might find a way to make the game fit into the MiniLD theme or just say the theme comes from the fact that it was made for preperation, I don’t know.

I’m also setting myself a challenge: My Ludum Dare entry will be written ENTIRELY in my language, of course using the library behind it. This’ll give me ample oppourtunity to stress test the current features, critiqe the syntax and refine the direction I’m going with it for future features.

This Ludum Dare will be the most productive one I’ve had, even if I come out with little to nothing to show for it game-wise.

planing to make a game this time ;)

last time i got no idea what to make and the time before i made something buggy  T_T this time i hope to make a really game with start and ending (hopefully with a great story 😉 )

i am going to the jam ludumdare (as always )

this time i will use:

Engine: unity3D 4.6 (new GUI system the uGUI)

Code: C#

Graphics: GIMP & cs6 photoshope (if i will find someone to make art for me it will by great 😀 )

Audio : Bfxr

Music : A random music generator maybe this: http://tones.wolfram.com/generate/

Streaming Ludum Dare!

Just a reminder that over the LD weekend I’ll be streaming on Twitch. Unfortunately for America, you’ll probably be asleep due to America’s -7 hours on Britain. Oh well. I’ll be streaming from around 8:00 UTC until around 21:00 UTC with gaps on both days, so check me out on twitch.tv/jthistle and follow me for a notification of when I’m live, if you can. Happy Ludum Daring!

I’ll tune in cause I live in UK ! By the way I’m 12 and I think it starts at about 1:30 am for Britain!

9 times? 9 times. I don’t remember him being sick 9 times.

I asked for a car, I got a computer. How’s that for being born under a bad sign?

Yes this will be my 9th appearance at Ludum Dare.

I’ll be using my usual suspects, Flash w/ Flixel Framework, Photoshop, BXFR, Autotracker.py (for music)

Good luck to all who enter and remember “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Have fun all!

Ludum dale!

Ludum ¡Dale!

We are in!

My gf @CatOutline and me, first LD together. It will be an experiment, can we make a finished game as a team?
She is in a very good progress of learning drawing/vector graphics. I will do the coding :)

Planning to use:

Code
– Phaser http://phaser.io/

Graphics
– Inkscape

Audio
– Audacity
– Possibly howler.js?
– We will try to record some sounds, or even music.

I’m In!

Been a while since I lost entered Ludum Dare, but looking forward to doing it once more!

Tools: Eclipse, Fireworks 8

Libraries: Slick2D, Lwjgl

See you in five days!

In it again

So, back for yet another LD entry.

I sadly missed a couple of them recently because of other duties that kept me away from my computers during the LD weekends. But this time things will be different, this time I like scripts.

My tools will be:

  • C++11 written in Visual Studio 2013, and compiled using the MSVC compiler as well as GCC and Clang on a pair of Ubuntu VMs.
  • I’ll be using the libraries: SFML for graphics/audio/input, Angelscript for scripting, and maybe boost/PhysFS or something quickly rolled myself for filesystem access.
  • Graphics will be drawn in The GIMP, with maybe some Blender for any 3D models or traceables.
  • Sounds will be done using me, myself, and I. With a microphone. Possibly tuned up a bit with Audacity before use.
  • Music will probably not exist, but if I have time I’ll try to throw something together or generate a song using SoundHelix or one of the auto trackers.

And my battlestation will be too much of a mess for me to feel comfortable posting any pictures of it yet.

Either way, here’s to another fun weekend of coding and community. Hope all the rest of you will be having as much fun as I’ll be.

Choosing a Programming Language for Ludum Dare

Last time I did the Ludum Dare, it was a complete failure because I could not get it to compile on Windows. This was mostly due to working on Mac and using C++. This is usually not a problem but I was using libraries that could not get to link on Windows.

This time (if I do get the chance to do it), is to use a different language. I was wondering which language would be a better choice to use:

  • Java
  • Dart
  • Haxe

All 3 languages will work on most platforms (natively or web) but I can decide which one to use.

If I was to use Java, it would use LWJGL (version 3 now!!!) and try get it to work in an applet. This however I would be using plain OpenGL (not WebGL).

If I was to use Dart or Haxe, I would compile it to Javascript/HTML5 and use WebGL. I don’t know if this would be good as I don’t know how many people can support WebGL (especially within the Ludum community). Also cannot decide upon Dart or Haxe. I’ve messed around with both languages for awhile now and I like them both very much. I like the fact that Haxe can compile to virtually anything but Dart seems to be closer to Javascript which is easier for the web. Of these two, I’m probably swaying towards Haxe but only ever so slightly.

So out of the 3, which would be the best option?

  • Java -> Applet/App with OpenGL
  • Dart/Haxe -> JS  with WebGL

From what I can tell, all three of these languages are just that: languages, not engines. There is probably not a lot inbuilt to streamline the production of a game (collision detection, etc), which is very important for gamejams.

For LD, use whichever you know best.

I’m using haxe this time. I’ve used dart before too. Both work great, Use whichever you’re more familiar with. It also depends on which framework you pick, haxe has a lot of options (I’m using snowkit), dart has StageXL or you can use straight canvas drawing.
